G5: Heat 90, Pacers 79: LeBron to the rescue as Miami seizes 3-2 lead; plus Heat poll, LeBron fined, hands-free Whopper, Salguero & more

1aa1cote1) It is THURSDAY, MAY 30. Have Dolphins' May practices ever seemed less important? A Heat title run will do that. 2) Thanks to ESPN SportsCenter for having us on to discuss Heat last evening. Dined at a local sports bar soon after and was jarred to see my interview replayed on a big screen. Cheap thrill, yet I found myself hiding behind a menu. Weird. My son took this pic. 3) Watched 'Behind the Candelabra' last night, the Liberace biopic with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, and found it creepily interesting. 4) In The Previous Blogpost (ITPB): Heat Game 4 loss, St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail, LeBron as QB, Marlins Sad-O-Meter. 5) Join us on Twitter @gregcote and now on Instagram at upsetbird.

UM's Morris out for regional baseball opener: Miami coach Jim Morris, still not cleared after a bout with pneumonia, will miss UM's Friday opener vs. Oklahoma State in the NCAA Regional in Louisville. Gino DiMare will take over. Morris hopers to be there for Miami's second game and we wish him well.

Want to work for LeBron James?: LeBron's people are seeking college interns for jobs related to online content development and digital sports marketing. Click here for more.

G5: HEAT 90, PACERS 79: LEBRON'S 30 POINTS LIFT MIAMI: LeBron James led the way with 30 points but it was a magical third quarter of his -- 16 points and a hand in 25 of Miami's 30 overall -- that proved the difference. Udonis Haslem also came up big with 16 on 8-for-9 shooting. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh combined for only 17 points but LeBron made sure that didn't matter on this night. Miami now with a 3-2 series lead entering Saturday's game in Indianapolis. Look for my game column online. ..... Original post: [Bulletin: Retiring soccer heartthrob David Beckham wil attend tonight's Heat game. No. No, he will not sign your underwear, sir! Now on to our G5 preview...] There really is no in-between here tonight, is there? If Miami wins for a 3-2 Eastern Conference finals lead, 1aa1heatpacersorder is restored and the Earth is back on its axis -- the Heat returns to likely repeat-champion-favorite status. But if Miami loses at home to put itself on the brink of elimination? If the Heat lose consecutive 1aa1g5games for the first time since early January? Oh my. Sky falling! Game 5 winners historically go on to win a 7-game series about 85 percent of the time, although Miami experienced it both ways in last year's playoff. The Pacers series also was 2-2 last ear, Miami won G5 and the series. But Miami then trailed 3-2 vs. Boston but still advanced. Suffice to say tonight is major-important, and that the keys for the Heat are pretty broad and simple: shoot better than that awful 39 percent in Game 4, get the rebounding differential a lot closer than 39-20, and get a lot more efficiency from Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh than their combined 6-21 shooting in the last game. For the first time in this postseason I feel like there  may be more pressure on Miami than the opponent to perform tonight. This is a Heat team with great resolve and the ability to bounce back. Let's see them prove it.

FLASH POLL: 3-POI NT SHOOTING IS WHAT MOST NEEDS TO IMPROVE FOR HEAT VS. PACERS SERIES: A Flash Poll is a temporary poll meant to take a quick pulse. The question was what individual or facet of the Heat has most disappointed and/or most needs to get better in this Eastern Conference finals that continues tied 2-2 with Game 5 tonight in Miami. You may still vote, but the results are 3-point shooting 33.3 percent, rebounding 21.0%, Dwyane Wade 20.9%, Chris Bosh 18.7% and "other" 6.9%.

LEBRON, TWO PACERS FINED FOR FLOPPING: NBA today announced $5,000 fines to Heat's LeBron James and Pacers' David West and Lance Stephenson for flops during Game 4 in Indy. You flopping. It's when a player is lightly touched and theatrically falls as if gut-punched. A $5,000 fine! Isn't that cute!? You know how much 5K is to LeBron? It's about like you or I being pulled over for speeding and the ticket costs us 25 cents. Why bother.

1aa1hfree2 1aa1hfree"SURE I LOVE TO EAT. I JUST CAN'T BE BOTHERED HOLDING MY FOOD!": Miami-born Burger King has developed a Hands-Free Whopper Holder that it is currently test-marketing in Puerto Rico. This is a blog. I couldn't say if if it weren't true. Step aside, Electric Toothbrush, this may be the new epitome in unnecessary products. I mean, how obsessed are you with multi-tasking if you can't be bothered using your hands to take a bite? The invention is pictured left, and seen right in action.

ME, ME, ME (DID I MENTION ME?): You obviously found my blog and you may know by now I'm on Twitter 1aa1insta 1aa1vine@gregcote. So I wanted to tell you about three new projects. 1) I'm now on Instagram as upsetbird sharing photos (many but not all work-related). 2) I'll very soon be on Vine as Greg Cote sharing 6-second videos. There already is a waiting list of followers; thank you! 3) Any fans out there of the old Staple Singers or of the R&B/gospel/funk of their enduring voice? If so follow on Twitter @Mavis_Staples. You are invited to follow any or all of these three new ventures.

ON THE SALGUERO CONTROVERSY: I was going to leave this alone until one too many emails or comments to me suggested my colleague Armando Salguero is un-American, should be fired or both. I'd vote neither. The controversy (click here) is that Armando and a reader got into an email back-and-forth that grew emotional and childish, and ended with him accusing the Vietnam veteran reader of "sucking as a soldier" and losing the war. The Herald's executive editor, no less, has apologized publicly, and so has Armando. None of us is perfect, and life is less about mistakes than about lessons learned. We move on.

SAD-O-METER: EIGHT LOSSES IN ROW DISMAL EVEN FOR MARLINS!: We have this new blog feature we 1aa1bbsadupdate as long as Marlins' winning percentage is under .300 -- as long as the New York Mets' infamous 1962 record of 40-120 (.250) is within dubious reach. Well, eight straight losses now have the S-O-M exploding on record pace. Updated Sad-O-Meter: Current record, 13-40 (.245). Season projection, 39.74 wins, 122.26 losses.

Click back. Will be updating/adding to this latest blogpost...

Armando. LOL. Funny guy. Ragging on vets on memorial weekend. Pretty classless. LOL. I think he deserves a shrimp cocktail from Indiana.

Now let's get back to sports. I voted Bosh needs to grow a pair and start playing like a Big 3. I don't want to hear any excuses. Get in there and grab some rebounds and play like a big man. Stop hanging out at the three point line like you are Steven Novak. Start mixing it up some with West and Hibbert. Start playing like you deserve to be mentioned as a Big 3 otherwise take your talents back to Canada.

Chris Bosh and DWade needs to step up their games and the three point shooting needs to improve.

Long Term Pat Riley needs to somehow get someone in here who can rebound the ball a bigger more physical player to help!

Good thing Salguero kept his job (he wouldn't have in most markets total dink rant) or else it would have been dashi 24/7 up in here perish the thought.

LeBron is basically going to go off tonight for some huge numbers, but Indiana's strong interior game does showcase that this so-called, new, "centerless" game requires one to have the best baller on the planet (not being a center) to remain competitive against old-school big teams.

Haha looks like LeBron and Armando are floppers so sorry yeah ok dude but I guess he's right as a Cuban immigrant he does "run the place" or else he would be looking for work somewhere else.

Armando should be fired for being a terrible beat writer, not for drunken emailing.

Before the season started they said they were going to start dishing technicals for flopping - that never happened.

Fans say the three point shooting has been disappointing - the three point shooting has to be irrelevant, if this team was built around three point shooting it would be doomed from the start. It's not, it's built around three max contract players, who need to elevate their games if they're going to get past Indiana.

They need to keep Bosh moving instead of camping him out at the three point line and look for them to call plays to get Wade the ball moving towards the basket early in the game to get him going.

He just hit a nerve, BB. Most Cuban-Americans would snap under such innuendo about our race. Having said that, he was wrong and totally lost it. Moreover, a guy who works as a member of the press.

Armando would do well by adopting some of Greg Cote's "thick skin." And as Greg also noted, we remain human and as such, make mistakes.

True Kazaam he's not good. He spends more time arguing with fans on twitter than he does covering the team.

The problem is that Miami transformed Bosh's game to that of a small forward. Long lost is the kind of interior game he had in Toronto, and one does not just turn the switch.

Doesn't much matter though. LeBron is going to explode for some obscene numbers tonight. But as I suggested above, without James, the team is just another team.

didn't the heat pound indy 2 games ago.?
lol

I read the email exchange between "Billy" and Armando Salguero. I find it very distasteful that a supposed Vietnam Veteran, you can be anyone you want behind the computer, would come out with such a bigoted, racist rant. Billy makes it personal by attacking Armando and his family for escaping Communism, the very thing he "claims" to be fighting against in Nam. How Billy, who would be in his 60s if he is in fact a Vietnam Vet can write such childish, personal attack tells me he is someone who has mental and anger issues. Billy should not be allowed to attack behind his computer screen without retribution. In closing, I am a Veteran and find "Billy's" e-mails much more distasteful and disturbing then Armando's response who felt his family was attacked.

Bobbyd12,

First, thanks for serving. Going back to subject, unfortunately for Armando, he got caught within the interplay that is modern media. One who works for an institution such as the Miami Herald can never lose sight of that. There are rules you just can't break.

You and I, or better yet, BB and Dashi can go at it all they want, but Armando and this "Billy" guy can never engage in such manner.

Something Else- Spoelstra.

How Is Erik Spoelstra A More Sympathetic Figure Than Armando.

How Does A Guy Without A Journalism Degree, Get To Keep His Job After Such A Debacle.

I Would've Fired Armando On Performance Alone, He Sucks At His Job. That Insulting A Reader That Just So Happens To Be A Veteran. WOW!! If The Papers Were Turned Around. And The Writer Made An Insult About Cubans. Bet He Would've Been Terminated On The Spot.

Specially A Vietnam Veteran. Those Guys Never Get Respect. The Soldiers Were Just Following Orders. At Least Now We Are Teaching People To Respect Our Veterans. Criticize The Gov't. One Has Nothing To Do With The Other.

I Should Go On A Rant. You See Things You Shouldn't See As A Soldier. For someone that Has Never Gone, To Insult You.

That Is Like The Big Clown Here Trying To Disrespect Dashi For The Same Thing A Couple Weeks Back. Funny How Twitter Thugs Talk Reckless To People . Real Big And Bad Behind That Keyboard. Love To See How You Act With Real Bullets Flying.

And No It Wasn't Dashi. Dashi Went To Iraq And Afghanistan, Not Vietnam. And Have Stated Before At Mando's Blog, I Will Handle My Own Business. No Need To Run And Cry For Help. Mando Is Afraid Of Dashi, Not The Other Way Around.

What Has This World Come To? When Even Gays Get More Respect Than Veterans Who Fought And Lost Friends In The War. Any War.

Not Disrespecting Anyone, But Armando.

It Is Easy To Talk Reckless About War. When You Come From A Long Line Of Cowards.

Armando Should've Changed His Sign In Name Like He Does On His Blog. Guess He Forgot.

They will never fire salguero over this rant. first of all, the guy is more then likely a quota hire. If he was a white, irish american, and went on a rant about the cubans, his ass would be out the door in a new york minute. The herald should of suspended him over this. This shows me, this guy is an idiot.

Dashi And Naples Jack, Agree.

Mark It Down. This Will Never Happen Again.

Go on, Naples. Make him a liar. Just post on how you think RD women are the most beautiful women in the world.

Interesting how I had it RD vs. DR. I guess not surprising in that I still do mental math in spanish.

I hope Armando doesn't lose his job, not because he is cuban and I'm cuban but because I think he truly feels sorry for what happened and no one is perfect..He deserves a second chance.

Bosh is a small foward in a power fowards body, he won't step up on the boards because he can't..

OC Dolphin, I understand Armando is held to a higher standard and should have thought it out. I'm just not going to give this guy Billy a free pass on this. His emails were pretty provocative. I think an apology is sufficient in this case.

Hey Dashi,

on Armando, of course your entitled to your opinion but that Nam veteran is a total asswipe too.

and brother you have my respect for putting your life on the line for our country...

Naples,

this is for you buddy, check out this "dominicana"..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYRU3qnsPlE

Armando should not get fired over this, not because He's cuban and I'm cuban but is obvious the man is sorry for what he said, no one is perfect people..

Please add coaching to your poll.

Look I'm not a basketball expert by any means but the single biggest reason we are tied at 2 is our rebounding, the Pacers are controlling the glass both on offense and defense which limits the time we can run ..

I blame Riley...he is the architect...

OC..Bosh for Howard..you guys should do it so you don't lose him for nothing, just saying...We'll even give you Joel Anthony, hehe

OC,,

did you see Star Trek 3-d I-Max yet?..do tell.

FZ, Not in 3D, but I did see it.

We'll take the Bosh for Howard trade only if we can also include Jim Buss in it as well.

FZB,

They Both Were Out Of Line. I'm Not Arguing That. That Is His Problem Not Mine. Now How Convenient That This All Coincides With Mr. Salguero's Yearly Furlough.

(Dashi Theory- Mando And His Loverboy Troll Needed Some Extra Time Off, The Rainbow Cruise Will Take A Little Longer This Year.)

As The One In The Public Eye, He Needs To Be More Careful. Unless He Wants To Appear A Certain Way.

On To Subjects Of More Importance.

L.Miller, R.Matthews, A.Binns. The Fins Have Some Good Young Talent Developing.

T-Sizzle With Pennington Teaching Him!! WHAT!!

This Is Better Than Marino Teaching Tannehill. Penny's Football IQ Is Mainningesque.

Chad's Mechanics Were Flawless. They Had To Be For That Noodle Arm Of His. The Decision Making. Philbin Is A Smart Man.

Unlike Spo.

Let Me Count The Ways ....

The One Game The Heat Dominated The Pace, And Played Heat Basketball, The Heat Blew Indiana Out.

The Heat Can't Play Grind It Out Half Court Basketball Against Indiana. They Need To Make Hibbert Run Up And Down. David West Also.

Get The Big 2 In Foul Trouble Early. Hibbert And West.

Make Them Play Your Brand Of Basketball. Fast Pace Up And Down Transition 7 Second Or Less "Positionless" Harlem Globetrotter Basketball. Not Classic Basketball, Positions, Half Court 24 Second, Feed The Post, Big Guy Bang Down Low Basketball.

I Don't Even Have To Look At The Stat. But I Bet The Heat Are Harder To Beat When They Score Over 100 Pts A Game. Than 80-90 Pts A Game.

PACE!

Another Thing The Idiot Doesn't Comprehend.

And With A Deeper Rotation You Can Keep Running A Faster Pace. Consistently.

nice write up Dashi,

I think R Matthews is going to have a big jump in production along with the other young talent, who knows even Egnew could surprise...

Tannehill should have a better year based on the talent upgrade around him...7 weeks to training camp people !

you guys wanna know how I've been able to keep my sanity until football season start's???..I've been watching this, it relaxes me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeG0_rQ8sXE

ps-make sure you watch the whole thing, no cheating.

Not bad, FZ. Certainly much more compelling than soccer.

the heat problem is ray allen getting way to many minutes. he is pathetic in this series, battier is bad as well. play miller some already spo.

The pressure to me in this game is all on Indiana.

Indiana loses and they are done. They have to beat a mad Miami team on the road. Miami loses and while concerning because it is at home, Miami could still conceivably reel off two straight wins (heck they won 20 plus at one time in the regular season). Miami is in control of the series and has home court and even if they lost home court, no biggie. Miami will be a tough team to close out. You want to see what happens with Lebron, Wade and Bosh with their backs against the walls?

I wonder if on Valentine's Day, Armando bashes his wife?

That's what happened to them last year, if I'm not mistaken. They were 2-2 against the Celtics and lost the fifth game at home, then went on to win the last two.

Heat fans need not worry.

OC,

This Pacers team is better than last years team and we are in a funk...I'm about to pull my eye-balls out!!!

hehe, just kidding..go Heat but football can't get here soon enough.

thank you sir may I have another..

Here's Barry strategizing on how to neutralize the Tea Party after they won so many seats in the House in 010, and upsetting what would have been unfettered ramming of ALL his ill policies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tfK_3XK4CI

...put Shulman on it, he's a sneaky little shit just like you...

dukazy I like it. And rest assured OC we're all of us crazy. Some just seem better at hiding, as Tony Montana say...

Loco Dukey?

.Insanity is nothing but a state of mind..

OC Dolphin,

i guess there are so few dark "cuban-americans", but i don't think that you and FZB and Mr. Woodcock belong to a race of cubanos. anyway, methinks that no one likes getting one of their own disparaged, whether it be a columnist or ballplayer or bricklayer. unless the pacers start raining three point shots down on the locals, #6 will lead his team to a victory tonight. as in the most recent SI cover and story, he and magic johnson are the only players who can handle any of the positions on the court. for all the greatness of west and robertson, they could not have played center/post, but could have squeezed by at rebounding forwards. both backcourt positions were in their domain easily, and shooting forward would have been easy for the 6-5 big o and the almost 6-4 west. what a joy it used to be when the royals came to LA; the stars came out to see big o and lucas and west and baylor on the court together. as mentioned many times here, the great players got their college teams to the NCAA finals, as all four of these guys did. i believe only lucas came home a winner.

Sweet God in His Floride Free Heaven, Cuba should be America's 51st state! PERIOD.

Shadow - tune in to the Heat game if you have the chance, it should be a great one.

Since you have no one to watch on the Dolphins anymore let me suggest Randy Starks, Rashad Jones, and Dion Jordan:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEi7AB8yGI8

Lets just go in Under Track ll Plan R and take Cuba by force from the Communistas...

Oye OC, are you going to get a hall pass from the Mrs. tonight and watch the Heat game or is it going to be another night of Mahjong and knitting?

Shadow, every single Cuban male is "black" from the waist down. It's a fine example of human evolution.

Geez, I just logged on and I've read a few posts and I see that OC is on a roll. Give em Hell OC! Boy it should be a great evening knitting that little petty coat for Jr.'s progeny.

Mahjong lol was good enough for the Red Chinese Senor Woodcook. And we kind of made a friend there I think.. Actually it's hard to tell. There's too much confusion. I can't get no relief...

Ah, boys, what's the deal with Armando Salgero I've been away for a while. Dashi, where you in Iraq and Afghanistan with our Army of the DR's? Just kidding, bro. If you did go to the shit, much props to you. And thank you for your service.

Beckham attending the Heat game.

I'm likely going to watch my first Heat playoff game. It's getting interesting at 2-2 and I'm looking forward to the usual headlines "Heat outpace Pacers". Tough competition though from that other sport called "National Spelling Bee" on ESPN. At least there's no diving in Spelling Bee. Down to Final 10.

Craziness, spelling words they themselves have never heard of. What would be really cool is International Spelling Bee. You can get asked to spell any word in any language including Klingon.

Include profanity and slang and I'm in...

Hey someone cue up Harrisons I, ME, MINE from Let It Be. I'd do it myself but I'm in Labia again trying to stay out of the shade...

That must be a horrible case of Vitiligo going on in Cuba. Do you guys also like little boys? I heard about you Peter Pan Ferries.

Hehe

Cubans love little boys.

chmon.

What does any this have to do with Sal Mineo or Ed Podalak!?

Go Heat boys. And you guys giving us Cubes a hard time let me "extend" my invitation to blow me.

Get me an icecream cone with some scag on it...

Woods And FZB,

Thanks For The Support. But I Also Like To Distance Myself A Little From All That. Some Of Those Memories You Don't Want To Remember. Some Can Cope With It, Some Can't. I'm Just Glad I Had People Who Told Me I Was Different, And That Everything Will Be OK. But Whoever Says That They Went And Nothing Has Changed Are In Denial.

What I Find Funny, Is How Much Mando And His Troll Are Allowed To Talk Dashi For Pages At A Time. Not Everyone Has Thick Skin. You Just Knew This Was Bound To Happen.

Now, The Only Thing I Can Say In Mando's Defense. It Was On His Twitter Account. That Has Nothing To Do With The Miami Herald. Mando Could've Just Banned Buddy. I Read Worst On The Herald Blog. If You Want To Punish Armando, Punish Him For What He Allows To Go On In A Dolphin Blog.

Never had any URGES to read Armando Fine Corinthian Leather...

Gentlemen do tell has anyone precisely located the bottom of reality as yet. Answer the question a win a shiney gold toof I mean tooth...

Some kid whose name I can't spell won the national spelling bee.

Dude, as we all get to know each other more from constantly talking to one another things and topics evolve from just sports. It's much to do about nothing. Cote said it well.

If I knew the etymology, definition, and had an example used in a sentence, I might be able to spell his name.

Since I'm on the English language trip at the moment, is it the Miami Heat is winning or the Heat are winning?

Heatz iz beadinging the Pacers OK!

Boys,

Good win by the Heat, Bosh is still playing like a girl but UD came up big..

Dukey, Take back Cuba? ...you have my blessings and all the other cubans.

Later..I'm way past my bedtime..

Either someone lied to the fans wating 3 hrs for Beckham before the Heat game, or he lied.
Per the Herald article, he's investigating cities for an MLS franchise. Miami, Orlando, San Antonio or some other. Or buy the Galaxy if they are for sale.

If the Anglo themed Ft Lauderdale Strikers could be resurrected that would be awesome. They had quite a following back in the day; and you could mingle with them after home games at some Pier named bar. I was too young, but these guys were a mix of English players and some then world superstars like George Best, Gerd Muller, Cubillas, van Beveren.

The lower kevel Strikers are even ignored by local media, despite a decent 4000-5000 attendance. Par with minor league hockey and baseball.

I'm pretty sure, they'll explore the diverse Latino market , but play in Miami. Havng said that, Miami is the US soccer hot spot, but not for MLS. Very similar thinking that baseball loving Cuban fans would sellout Marlins games. Mami, just not a great sports town except or Phins and international soccer events, and the Heat when they are stocked with championship winning stars.

OrlandoCity Lions are trying the hardest. 7000+ avg is nice for minor league. City pushing for a soccer only stadium.

Hard to figure out why Tampa Bay this time around didn't cut it. In the Nasl days, they had great attendance. Great rivalry with us.

Beckham likes the glitz cities, Miami and LA. But may want to check out San Diego or a Carolina franchse. They're hot about soccer there.

San Antonio would do well..but 3 in Texas and none in SE US. Not what MLS wants.

The new New York City team is co-owned by Yankees and Manchester.

Soccer?

Really.

"Down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier!"

Wow, LeBron James....nuff said.
