Dolphins trade Vontae Davis (with my new video); plus Tannehill's future (w/ poll), Upset Bird (11), Lance Armstrong, Prince Harry & more

1aa1mepick 1aa1crowsUPSET BIRD COUNTDOWN: 11 DAYS: The Upset Bird and I kick off our season of Friday NFL prediction pages Sept. 7, and began a 21-day countdown that each day is honoring notable birds. Following the British band A Flock Of Seagulls, today we welcome American singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow.

Dolphins trade Vontae Davis: The Dolphins have traded cornerback Vontae 1aa1davisvDavis to Indianapolis for a second-round draft pick. A lower pick also will be involved, likely a sixth rounder. This strikes me initially as a positive deal for the Dolphins. Davis had had a poor camp, reporting out of shape and losing his starting job. And the Colts figure to be bad enoough that the second round pick likely will be very high. However, the trade also seems to be another indication that the Dolphins are conceding playoff chances for 2012 and are firmly in (re-)building mode. The trade also begs the question: Are Sean Smith and Richard Marshall a capable NFL starting corernback tandem. They'd better be.

PS3: ATLANTA 23, DOLPHINS 6 (FINAL): IF THIS WAS A DRESS REHEARSAL, THE DOLPHINS ARE IN RAGS: A 23-6 loss to Atlanta last night puts Miami at 0-3 in the preseason after what was supposed to be a dress rehearsal game for the regular season. Uh oh. The first-team defense was OK, but the first-team offense stunk. So many dropped passes. Pretty ghastly. Ryan Tannehill does not have the surrounding talent in terms of playmakers to make his job any easier. Click on Help Wanted for my latest column, off last night's game. ..... Original post: Ryan Tannehill in his first performance since being named the season's starting quarterback will get the 1aa1atlmiaattention tonight. [Vote in Tannehill poll just below] But the broader picture to emerge will be how good (or bad) we can expect the team to be this year. Whether Tannehill will be piloting a credible playoff contender or a long-ways-to-go pretender should come clear in a way it hasn't yet. The first two preseason games (losses to Tampa and Carolina) were far more about player evaluation than the scoreboard. In some cases starters played little. Likewise next week's fourth and final exhibtiion will be about resting starters, staying healthy and determining final roster spots. It is preseason game No. 3 -- that's tonight -- that will see starters playing as much as three quarters and the effort to perform well and win considered paramount. This will be more of a regular-season prteview. That's why, for example, we can expect to see more Reggie Bush/running/offensive balance. Atlanta and Miami are two of only five teams that are 0-2, so a shade of added incentive will be there. This is the dress rehearsal. We're about to find out how ready for some football the Miami Dolphins really are.

HOW GOOD WILL TANNEHILL BE?: Admittedly the question of how good new Dolphins 1aa1ryantstarting QB Ryan Tannehill will be is at this point either unfair or more likely just wildly premature. We might not have an accurate read for a few years, after all. (Or at least for a few months). But, this being a blog and not a set of encyclopedias, I can't wait. I want to know now how high we're setting the bar for this guy. Dolfans and others, I am not asking what you hope but rather what you realistically expect. Vote and say why.

Four Dolphins in NFL top-200: Scouts Inc. for ESPN.com ranks the NFL's top 200 players, and the four Dolphins listed are tackle Jake Long (20th), linebackers Cameron Wake (57th) and Karlos Dansby (134th) and cornerback Vontae Davis (179th). The usual suspects in the toverall top five: Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Calvin Johnson and Darrelle Revis.

THE LATEST ON HARD KNOCKZZZ: The latest epsiode of HBO's Hard Knocks with the Dolphins was so 1aa1bmarleyforgettable I forgot to mention it right away. Is it just me or does the novelty of these shows wear off pretty quickly? I mean how many times can you watch and listen to Joe Philbin hem and haw to a player in his office without wishing you were doing something else. Highlight of the episode for me was that one of my all-time favorite songs, Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, was played in the practice bubble. (Click here to hear the song). I also had to smile at Philbin's advisory to Ryan Tannehill about the scrutiny he'll get from the media. "They're not bad people," said Joe, of reporters. "That's what they're paid to do."

NUDE ROYAL ROMP!: Britain's Prince Harry, of course, got nekked in a 1aa1harrygame of strip billiards in his Las Vegas hotel VIP suite the other day with a bunch of friends and some hotties they'd met, according to various reports. Harry evidently isn't very good at pool, based on the TMZ photos pictured. I think this is where I am obliged to be cheeky and mention "crown jewels." GET IT!? I could care less that His Princeness did this. He's young. He's single. He can afford it. I do wonder, though, about his royal judgement. Like, in a crowded, liquored-up room full of cell phone cameras, this wasn't going to get out!? No official reaction from Queen Elizabeth or from Bucknaked Buckingham Palace.

THE CONE OF PREMATURE CONCERN: I would never choose the 20th 1aa1emptyshelvesanniversary of Hurricane Andrew to make fun of our general overreaction to tropical storms. OK, maybe I would. Tropical storm Isaac remains in South Florida's watch cone even though it is veering west and now seems a greater threat to turn into Hurricane Mitt and mess with the Republican National Convention in Tampa. But, sure enough, on local TV last night, we saw the rote, stock stories about locals taking preparedness to premature extremes by stocking up on water, batteries, cans of tuna and so forth. So cute.

1aa1gymClick back. Will be updating/adding to this latest blogpost. Meantime, am I the only one who can too closely relate to the lament expressed at right?

That's okay, Greg, you'll survive. The picture you are showing is on aisle 9, water and can goods. The next aisle is maxed out with your Twinkies.

Dumb poll, no one can have 'reasonable expectations' for Ryan Tannehill after two games.

As usual, another stupid poll by Cote. THE GUY HAS NOT EVEN STARTED A GAME YET !!!!! Is this how all liberals think?

Put down that jar of Jergen's and get back to work, Kazaam. Nerd.

"I could care less"

**shudder**

Please don't write that again, you're a journalist, not an amateur blogger. See: http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2010/10/24/i_could_care_less/

I didn't vote, what the hell Cote...the guy has not even played in his first real NFL game..

I wish I was prince Harry.

Hurricane histeria will begin in Miami in 3,2,1..

Grammar Nazi, may I suggest you end the dispute by replacing the offending phrase with the aptly appropriate "I don't give a shit." End of story.

THREE LITTLE BIRDS!!!

JOHNNY B. GOODE:

as introduced by jerry garcia, RIP, before a riproaring version by the dead before the fillmore (not)closing of 1971- "here's the one it's all about", an incredibly cogent synopsis of johnny, parental attitude and foresight, and the effect of the electric guitar on rock abd roll.

To me hard knocks is good entertainment, I have enjoyed all the episodes..my only suggestion to the producer's is they need to show more of the cheerleaders specially coming out of the pool..

Greg, you failed to cue up the obvious Prince Harry word-plays, such as; that Harry lost one garment after jumping the cushion on his break, excited the instant his partner lifted the rack; that his partner had "ball in hand," then kissed his solid #1 ball into the hole; but came up short when he failed to put enough english into his shot.

This polls and most polls are unrealistic. Tannehill will be no better than his supporting cast. At this time Tannehill will be out there all alone. Now what kind of a career do you think he can have?

Wassup Kaz!

Hey dude, I want to apologize to you profusely. Cami came in today and told me she made a mistake, that you weren't the guy caught masturbating in the lab. She says she's sure you were the geek caught standing with his pants down in the petting tank getting head from a blowfish.

Dude, you really need to step out more often.

shadow Bobby Weir did a great Johnny B Goode.

Man in a hot air balloon is lost over Ireland. He looks down and sees a farmer in the fields and shouts to him Where am I? The Irish farmer looks back up and shouts back. ‘You’re in that basket.’

Obama Supporters:

Go Prince Harry Arse!

Apparently what Happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas..NOT!

Big Baby,

yes he did, abd garcia akso contributed a nice guitar. 1971 was about the time they were ending shows with JBG, and having heard quite a few i would say the fillmore closing or the famous palladium shows were the best.

didja see wher my alma mater was responsible for 25 olympic medals and would have finished 11th as an independent nation at the olympics? (SI) this has been going on for many years with swimming (john naber) and pole vaulting (bob seagren) and many more medalists. i think that that USC would rank very high all-time in olympic medals; in 1972 we had a freshman, randy williams take gold in the long jump and i don't think he ever won any competition of note after that. we were always a track power and our dual meets with the bruins were a yearly highlight in the 60s and 70s; actually can say that i passed a joint around with some bruins who won gold medals in the relays in 72. and just didn't pass it and neither did they!!

An Irishman walks out of a bar..........It's possible!

BTW, G Cote, that would be "couldn't care less", not "could care less."
Unless, of course you MEANT that you could care less,in which case you actually care a whole lot.

Writer, The only thing Cote care's about are:
1)Lebron Jame's
2)Lebron Jame's
3)Lebron Jame's
4)Cheese burgers.

Oh Yeah, one other thing "Lefty" Cote care's about

5) Anything Obama.

Relax folks. Cote is just doing his job.....being the liberal town idiot.

Cote...
How do you read the Obama "You didn't built that" speech? Watch the entire clip of the Prez off teleprompter and tell he didn't mean exactly what came out of his mouth.

Jimbo,

teleprompter or not, that was a stupid speech. anyone who creates an enterprise needs a loan from the bank, input from others,... but that came out pretty bad.

is there anyone but the slimy one from hope arkansas that can speak without a teleprompter's help these days? however much of a louse w jefferson clinton was, he left, it is said, with a balanced budget and could speak off the cuff and mesmerize even those in black churches, many used to fiery oratory. but what a skunk!!

You don't need an apostrophe when spelling a name that happens to end in an S.

english 101 ..is that you OC?

Obama is the fool on capital hill.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI1z7xgeGsI

so, is anyone else looking forward to tonight's game? the main concern for me is the same as yesterday, the O Line...they have to run the ball and they have to protect the QB.

This is going to be an exciting year for the Dolphins, it will come down to December 16th, both teams will be winless. It will be the battle for the #1 pick. I see this as being the Dolphins only win this year. It's going to be hard losing to the Jaguars but you can only hope!!!

shadow,,,
RE: Bill Clinton

Do you think the balanced budget is Clinton's doing or a Republican Congress not allowing a blank check?
Clinton is credited with Welfare Reform but it was Rick Santorum that wrote the Act & Republican Congress led by Gingrich that pushed it. Clinton signed it kicking & screaming. But.... Clinton is the best politician of our time. He knew (with the guidance of Dick Morris & James Carville) that he needed to sound fiscally conservative to get relected. The Contract with America was then popular.
Clinton benefitted from the high tech industry and housing boom that occured -without- government involvement.

Jimbo,

i am not into politics, and just stated that many people dwell on the fact that the balanced budget was what clinton left us, and according to you, HE DIDN'T DO IT HIMSELF!!!! (kibbitzing only)

whatever is going on, an incredible number of mass shootings and killings has been occuring in our country of late. this one in NYC was supposedly done with a rifle or shotgun, not generally the weapons of choice in these things. as someone who felt that madison and jefferson and friends got it really right back in the 1780s, these are heartbreaking stories. summer heat or fiscal woes or just plain psychotics, these are horrific stories that just seem to continue with no end. a de-militarized populus goes against the provisions of our Constitution, but someone needs to come up with the magic elixir. have a great weekend and we'll see how #17 fares in the next stage of his installment as leader of the offense. i am not particularly optimistic about the dolphin season upcoming.

Jimbo,

Slick Willie got lucky that nothing major happened during his presidency term's and had no balls as the commander in chief, (Mogadishu and Bin Laden) plus him and that faggot Barney Frank's (along with the GOP majority congress) came up and passed the law/changes that deregulated the whole banking/mortgage industry and the rest is history.

the guy is a scumbag.

I wonder how America would be now if 9-11 had never happened.

http://clintoncrimes.tripod.com/ClintonsBinLadenGateMotherofallScandals/id4.html

reading these cubano idiots try to talk about politics is like listening to a chimpanzee explain astro physics.

BLOW ME DIP SHIT...

Colonectomy, not colonoscopy.

Lance Armstrong... A hero. 7 time Tour D Franco wins on one nut. cancer survivor. ZERO times failed drug tests.
Lance, your a hero in my book but you must have pissed someone off bro.

Big Bird,

jiust listened to the JBG from the fillmore (not so) last days-2JUL71 and it as great as ever. saw the dead a bunch in 71 and this was one month before the epic, and i mean epic, shows at the hollywood palladium-in my and many others opinion the best shows-performance and material-that the dead did. just google grateful dead hollywood palladium and check it out. from the audience and the greatest "hard to handle" ever. enjoy and let's see what the dolphins do in a quagmire tonight.

Hey OC can I change to 1-15?

Ahhh maybe it's just me but I never knew Johnny B. Goode was a kicka*** tune before Sir Jimi. I mean Jimi was moving at speed of a '69 Vette and Sorry Chuck Blueberry at the speed of a Model T..

Realy all Tannehill would have to do to be better than Marino is not throw game losing interecptions especially during big regular season games, playoffs and ah SBs and learn ballhandling skills ala Steve DeBerg

Miami's receivers couldn't catch a cold at the isolation ward at County General. Wow, do they suck.

This is looking like the Cam Cameron squad. Not good.

This team is more snake bit than the Bills, Vikings and any other team to lose at least 4 SBs without ever winning one. If Dolphins two SB wins had not occurred DECADES ago they probably would not have overcome their lack of any LUCK save BAD either...

Only reason I'm sticking with 5-11 prediction is because I'm a diehard fan...

Watched preseason game 3,,, Fins look like straight up poop.

clyde gates lines up 2 yds from sideline, never open. None of these recievers outside Bess like catching the ball over the middle. What this group of WR's lack is talent & guts. Tannehill & Moore both threw some decent passes that weren't caught. One nut Lance Armstrong has more balls then Miami WR's & TE's.

Miami's Offense won't be scoring many TD's this year.

On the bright side the D played pretty decent. Good enough effort to lose 23-6 at home.

Yeah Woodcock, they do suck. Didn't read your post until I wrote my rant.
Reasonable person would think ONE of the young WR's would step and TRY to win a starting spot.

agree with kazaam ...way to early to judge.

Wow, the more I watch Hard Knocks the more of a loser Coach Loveboat seems. OC, he would be a great room mate for you, picking up little pieces of paper, worried about shoes being tied, an A personality type. Not good. This guy is starting to look as bad as Wandstead. I'll wait until next week to determine whether I'm going to go with 1-15 or 0-20 (which would include 0-4 pre season). If I had a 7-11 I wouldn't hire this fish to run the night shift.

This guy Philbin looks like he couldn't get laid in Vegas with a fist full of $100 bills. How in the world do you hire this guy. What your other choices where Pewee Herman, William Hung, or Richard Simmons!

well, it seems we will struggle at the beginning of the year but I did see some positive signs out there.

Tannehill- our young QB wasn't nervous he was in command of the huddle and shows good poise, the kid has moxie, we got our guy and that's a big positive for the team, he IS GOING TO MAKE PLENTY OF MISTAKES but he will get better each week.

the offensive line-to me the biggest worry, they played well and opened holes for the rb's, Daniel Thomas looked good, he ran hard, if this O Line gets it together and can protect the QB then T-Hill can make progress.

our defense-looked like the defense they are supposed to be, they held of of the best offenses to nine points (without our two best LB's)..

our receivers are dog shit

all you guys knew this would be a rough year IF Tannehill started, well Garrard gut hurt and we are in a full rebuilding year, this is not about this season is about Tannehill and his development, be all "negativo" all you want but WE HAVE FOUND OUR FRANCHISE QB, the future is bright boys.

I don't wanna see L Naane make the team, he can't separate from anybody and is not that good, give the spot to younger guys with more upside.

Clyde Gates should make the team, you just can't give up on that kind of speed after just one year, if we are going to win between two/three games and five/seven then who cares...I think they may put Hartline on injured reserved, so here is the rest.

Bess
Wallace
Pruitt
Moore
Matthews
Gates

I'm wondering if I should put up my hurricane shutters, the hysteria has started...it will be non stop on all tv stations 24/7 from now on.

no Fuzzy, Gates needs to go. The only thing Gates does well is run fast in a straight line. Gates can't get off the line when jammed, doesn't leave the sideline & will NEVER catch the ball in traffic.
Keep "7-11" Hogan.
Cut Hartline.

Watch the waiver wire for OL, S, WR, TE

Any OL Miami releases will be scooped up by Sparano's Jets.

RG John Jerry played at least 3 quarters. RT Martin looks like a rookie. I'd play those 2 at least the full half next week.

Woodcock,
Watching Philbin on Hard Knocks is concerning. Picking up trash off the practice field & telling young'ns to tie thier shoes gives the impression that he has OCD. Coach is too soft spoken to command a team to greatness. Harbaugh or Cowher do silly & soft shit like this guy? Philbin should be a shoe salesman or some shit.

WR Legoon Nnaannee needs to go. Guess there's more to being a WR than looking like one on paper. Something about catching the ball in a game or what not.

I'd keep only 5 wr's and hold on to an extra RB. You can move Bush out into the slot & put him in motion. Can use Bush, Thomas, Clay together.

Miami has a lot more talent at RB then anywhere else.

That hurry up O is going to failed big time. It will produce no TD and only put more pressure it's own D.

Don't B surprised to see this team out of most of it's games by half time.

Straight up poop!

Odd that it took three preseason games and behind the scenes footage for some people to realize Reege Philbin is an unqualified limp d*ck placeholder.

Forget about his personality, how about the fact that he's a career offensive line coach who's never designed or called an offense at any level and yet was being touted as an 'offensive mastermind' and 'quarterback guru' because of his proximity to Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rogers?

I didn't like the hire at the time and still don't, but like I say, if Tannehill's a franchise quarterback it won't matter that the Dolphins have a crappy owner, GM, and coach.

Plaxico Burress caught 9 touchdowns last season for the Jets.

The obviuos reason why Philbin was hired was the fact that the most qualified candidates did not want to come this dysfuntional organization.

Unfortunately, it's clear that the only question left for Miami football fans is "When does the NBA season start."

The Dolphins have blown yet another draft.

1.) Tannehill - are you kidding, a whole season of ineptitude to draft an experiment at QB (how 'bout a game changing o' lineman?)

2.) J. Martin OT - the right side is a seive when he is in the game. Who's doing the player evaluations?

3.) Oliver Vernon - smallish DE drafted to appease the UM locals....a waste

3b.) M. Egnew - bust of the draft. This TE may not have even played last night, can't block and has butter-fingers

4.) L. Miller - another UM player who is barely hanging on, rushed 5 tmies for 6 yards against the 3rd string.

Rishard Matthews, drafted with our last pick may be the only one of our picks worth a darn and certainly is our most effective pick given the round he was drafted in.

Player personel evaluation is attrocious and that GM should be fired immediately if not sooner.

I feel sorry for Philbin. He's got crap to work with. Thank you Dolphin front office.

Worst WR's in the league. Sad Sad Sad

Why didn't the hire Sherman as the Head Coach & Philbin as an Offensive Coach?

Which team is worse? Jets with both losers Ryan & Sparano or soft spoken lint picker Philbin?

I'm glad I'm not a local season ticket holder... not for another 5 yrs or so when I retire.

FIRE JEFF IRELAND!!!!!!!!

Worst GM in the country, afraid to take ANY RISKS, NO FAITH for free agents, gets NOTHING out of his top picks!!! Oh! His sixth and seventh round picks were solid huh? A couple nice special teams players? Make him a damn scout then, that's all he's good for!!!!!

at least Miami has a great punter

I suck too.

That's the problem. Jeff Ireland "thinks" he knows talent. Clearly he does not. The only position he may be qualified for is water-boy or possibly asst. laundry technician.

Where did this guy come from ???

Marshall last night 5 catches 1 TD. He will be a good fantasy pick this year with Cutler at QB.

wow, I can't believe how retarded some of you guys are.

Ucheat- you're the worst of the bunch, probably a Gator fan which would explain you're lack of brains.

ENOUGH ALREADY-calling you stupid would be an insult to stupid people...you're probably another gator fan.

Mercury morris-go back to your crack.

uglyaqua-who would you rather have had coaching the Dolphins?

JIMBO-giving up already?..

This part of the poll confused me...I didn't know what to make of it.

"Greatness, next Marino, 5-plus Pro Bowls"

"Next Marino" implies about 5 great seasons, the mediocrity, immobility, multitudes of pick 6's, and self killing playoff games.

How about leave out the Marino part. ..change it to:

Greatness, 5 Plus Pro Bowls and soem Supoer Bowls.

Can never go by pre-season games but they really look like s***. I guess I'm down for 4-12.. I hope that good.

I'm debating whether to go to the game here in Houston. I've seen every Phins-Texans game in Houston or Miami live, and we always lose. But most of those time, we were about on equal strength. This could be a massive disaster, waste of money and time. I think I can still get tickets thru the NFL tkt thing, but they are usually selling in pairs. I could not convince anyone to go to this potential mess.

Not much of a fan of Obama, but I've gone from being a slightly Repub leaning Independent to an outright disliker. They are clearly for the rich; abut worse yet, they are completely anti-progress. Any steps we try to take to move into the 21st c and catch up to some of the successful western countries, and they want to kill it.

They're stuck in the past..the way the world was 200+ years ago.

If they really repeal Obamacare, that's it. Independent studies prove that it will cut the deficit. Not passing it will raise the deficit.

Marino was the Jake Long of Pro Bowlers. Yes harsh but essentially in the ballpark.

Tannehill played well considering it was just he and Bess on offense.Receivers coach and all other receivers need to be cut immediately today.Defense was good.Special Teams mostly decent.O line a bit better and stronger.Pat Devlin has a chance to kick out either Moore who always fumbles and loses the ball often or Garrad who allowed a freak injury to very likely retire himself. Both did not show up when called to duty.Devlin jas HIS 1 chance next week. Will he/ can he deliver?????????Millions and millions of dollars are at stake for him if he can do it.Personally......I think he can and he will.We ll see next week who the REAL back-up will be.I d say .....albeit......surprisingly.........it will turn out to be Devlin.Good luck kid.

FZB - insults are easier than explaining the team Jeff Ireland put together. Need to sign Plaxico Burress ASAP. Maybe the Bears will take two second round picks for Brandon Marshall. Or maybe on the season finale of Hard Knocks they can have Reege Philbin apologize and resign Chad Johnson.

Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss are still premier receivers for their NFL teams after a decade in the league. Not sure what the other candidates are for best ever college receiving corps but that has to be up there.

mike1 - Texans randomly own the Dolphins but away underdog games are the best to go to on the off chance of an upset. Most balanced league in the world.

'European' ≠ 'Progress'. America is the third most populous country in the world, 3-10 times more citizens than other western countries, and even bigger geographically. As far as I can tell 'progress' to you means interest in soccer and handball, government run health care, and fast choo choos.

Well soccer and handball are gayer than christmas and the health care and choo choo solutions that work for Canada and England and Sweden and France won't neccessarily work here. Too many people to give everyone the most advanced and cutting edge health care in the world and too expansive for fast choo choos.

Saying the ACA decreases the deficit is misleading, it only comes out slightly in the black because the doubling of capital gains tax is written into the bill.

Kazaam, that is one of the best posts you've ever made on this blog. You sir are dead on in every single point. Well said.

and with the number one pick of the 2013 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins select...

Kaz, just having a little fun with some of these clue-less Dolphin fan's that's all, the truth is hidden from them, pobrecitos.

let me also remind you of something else, "putting together a team" takes longer than two years, people are simply ignorant to that fact (including you).

did you just said that soccer is gay?...

They steal 716 Billion from Medicare to help pay for Obamacare...Taxes will go up and don't forget about the fines you will be forced to pay for not buying something.

I don't understand people so willing and ready to give up freedom for something "free"...Or so you think.

We have always been the best...with the best facilities and the best doctors...But lets trade that in for something "free"...Or so you think.

Some day when you or someone you love is in need of treatment at least you can take comfort in knowing that the pill they give you instead of your treatment could quite possibly be "free".

Sign Plaxico and fire Ireland Sunday (due to storm there is nothing else to do anyhow)

scuba, most people have no clue on how Obamacare works and how much it will cost of all us in the long run couple that with the fact that he has a very good chance of being re-elected come november and we are heading for a heap of trouble.

on another subject I completely disagree with you on Ireland...He will turn the Dolphins around, he's only been in charge for two years, not enough time to rebuilt a team..

RE: philbin OCD

picking up the trash off the practice field was one of the "quirks" of definite OCD coach of years past- the great and underestimated george allen. defnsive mind of the 63 bears turned the rams around in one season, never had a losing season, and came back to college coaching after years out of football to lead long beach state to a winning record after years of ineptitude. when you are a winner, these idiosynchrosies seem minor, when you are a newbie like philbin, they seem pansyish. 3 games, no TDs- looking grim.

"Looking grim" They're not even looking that good.

Test, is anybody out thheeerrrreeeee????

Ahhh, the blog appears! Anybody a good record keeper, I'm not, let's take the Fins schedule, predict Ws and Ls and see who has the best record at the end of the season. Those of us in SoFla can meet for drinks at the end of the season! Howboutit?

I really hope no one buys into FZB's lame bu!!sh!t and name calling. The guys a 100% retard who puts up no argument other than to call people gator fans (with no proof of anything).

I many draft picks (not complete drafts) does Ireland have to blow before you're convinced he doesn't have a clue about evaluating talent. Who hired this moron...FZB?

* how many draft picks...

UCheat, btw your name doesn't inspire confidence, I like FZB, I like everyone the posts here. We are all entitled to opinions, are we not? After all, opinions are like A$$ Holes, everybody's got one!

I meant..."that" posts her

Here, not her! Dammmmmmmit! I'm cutting off my recalcitrant right index finger!

Test once again this blog has gone blank!

Ok, I'm going to get ready for a hurricane.

no hurricane! thank God!

UCheat...Only a moron gator fan would say such nonsense.

go ahead and come clean, are you a gator fan or not?

UCheat...My beef with you has nothing to do with your comment about Ireland and everything to do with you're lack of football knowledge , to simply state that all the Dolphins draft choices are already a bust (I'm referring to your post from yesterday at 12:04 pm) shows how ignorant you are (as far as football knowledge) and how little you know.

anyone and I mean anyone knows that it takes three years to learn whether a player or a draft class has been a success or a failure...To state they are all bust's already after just three/four weeks of their first training camps is stupid, you're like a ten year old that's has no clue.

Kazaam,

2000 had your trio of great passcatchers; i would look one season later to see a roster of runners that included clinton portis (fabulous all-around back-ran, caught, and blocked), willis mcgahee and frank gore. that fact that portis beat out a pre-injury mcgahee and frank gore tells you about the quality of this wild character. i always enjoyed watching him play, although not a big UM fan. portis ran so low to the ground and made tackling him a difficult procedure. i didn't get to see mcgahee destroy tacklers with his brute strength as the games were mostly day games on sarurday and pretty much the same with frank gore who as i recall had some absurd yds/carry averages early on. as many great runners as we had at USC, i am not sure that we ever had three of this caliber at once. i would think our best combinations were ricky bell/charles white and charles white/marcus allen with lynn cain thrown in there someplace; but portis, mcgahee, and frank gore- WOW!!!!!!

Kazaam,

and by the way, the guy who might have been my favorite and maybe even the most talented was reduced to playing FB because of a shredded knee- najeh davenport. big and strong and fast, but as i remember he didn't resemble the runner he was before his knee injury. bizarre story broke about him relieving himself in some girl's room- easy to mistake a closet for a "water closet", isn't it? really liked najeh and glad he had a crack at playing in the NFL, even as damaged goods. same with mcgahee. he and ricky bell, RIP, were the only runners i had a chance to see (mgahee on highlights, bell for whole games) a lot who couldn't be tackled!! the opposition, at least for bell, just waited for him to get near the sidelines on our student body right/left and push him out of bounds.

Kazaam,

najeh averaged almost 5 yards a carry while with the packers, and 4.6 over an eight year career. because of his injury, at UM he went from a 4.5 yd avg to a miserable 2.3 his second season, but, as stated, was really a nice find for GB. he's had his brushes with the grip, but hoping he is doing okay. as stated, not a big UM fan, but certainly portis and ND make my "i like em" team.
