[1) It is Thursday, June 7. Finally back from Vegas! Full report soon. Meantime, am headed up to Boston. 2) Join us on Twitter @gregcote]
G5: CELTICS @ HEAT: NO IN-BETWEEN. TONIGHT MIAMI WAS PUSHED TO EDGE OF CLIFF: "I never thought we'd be in this situation." That was Dwyane Wade after last night's 94-90 Game 5 loss giving Boston a 3-2 loss heading back up there. Uh oh. TV analyst Magic Johnson calling Miami soft compared to Boston. (Called him Magic Jordan before catching my mistake). Chris Bosh returned from injury, played well in limited minutes. Desperation now. Original post: Basketball has caught up to baseball with its nerdstats, meaning extraneously detailed breakdowns of numbers. Here's one: The Heat is now 0-10 last postseason and this one when they have the ball with 24 seconds or less to play and a chance to win in regulation or overtime. That includes two botched chances in Game 4 the other night. Great as Miami can be, this team tends find the choke when it is looking for the clutch. The Heat failed to even get off a decent shot on those two occasions in G4, and didn't even have all its best shooters on the floor. Some of that is on coach Erik Spoelstra. Now, with the NBA Eastern Conference finals at 2-2, all of that will be magnified or go away tonight depending on the Game 5 result in the bayside gym. Must win? Not literally. But damned close. Be interesting to see if Chris Bosh, called a game-time decision, plays. Be even more interesting to know if he's playing because he is fully ready, or because Miami is getting desperate. How confident are you Miami will win tonight and go on to win this series?

There goes Cote with his "comunista" conspiracy theories , Bosh will play if he is ready to play , is he 100% healthy ? no ,at this time of the year no one is.
the Heat are not desperate, the Celtics are a heck of a team and they match up very well with the Heat,it sure would be nice to see him out there, he'll be rusty but so what, a 50-80% Bosh is better than J Anthony.
Posted by: FZB | June 05, 2012 at 03:49 PM
Heat are desperate.
If they were up 3-1 Bosh wouldn't even be in the conversation of possibly playing.
Posted by: Big Baby | June 05, 2012 at 03:56 PM
Celtics are desperate, their window is slamming shut once this season ends.
Heat just need to match their energy, home court should help there.

So the Dolphins just signed this fullback, Jorvorskie Lane, 5-11 and 277 pounds .
wtf...that's like another lineman.
Posted by: FZB | June 05, 2012 at 04:51 PM
FZB, he runs a 4.28 forty just like Mark Duper.
Posted by: dukey | June 05, 2012 at 05:48 PM
that would go good with the 6'4" 250 RB they have.
Posted by: Dashi | June 05, 2012 at 06:02 PM
Kazaam,
sorry, but i am checking out for the radio at the 6:50 mark- bass took 4 steps on boston's second basket thre minutes after "gathering it". and the public adress screamer-OY VEY!!! i had forgptten what these clowns sounded like announcing baskets.

Rondo, Pierce and Allen are a combined 10-41 from the field. Under 25%. Also, check out Sedano's tweet regarding tonight's referees and the home team winning percentage when they're working a game. This should be a cakewalk for Miami. Instead, down 1, late, and Chalmers just got T'd up. What's the excuse going to be this time? What's tonight's anomaly? That's all I've heard for two years now, after every loss. "Anomaly. It'll never happen again." Yeah. You know what won't happen? LeChoke ever winning a ring. That's what won't happen. Spoelstra is a disaster, but LeChoke is worse. He's an albatross. Congratulations, Riley. Your reputation has been ruined by this egotistical clown with female shoulders.

Shadow you missed watching a good game.
That Heat announcer is a bit over the top.
I have to say I didn't see this coming but it's far from over.
Boston bench and a rejuvenated KG was the difference.

How's my favorite bunch of bloggers? I'm back!!! Have had more health issues, but I keep cheating death! Ha! Doctor said I had 6 months to live, when I told him I couldn't pay him....he gave me another 6 months! I'm actually looking forward to preseason, I want to see what the players AND new coaches can do....maybe we have a Cinderella team. I am hopeful. But expect nothing....still to be determined is the outcome of my battle with my buddies as to who will be better, Weeden or Tannehill? That will be an interesting match-up. Although I think Weeden will start before Tannehill. So it'll be hard to gauge this year. Anyway if I lose, I have to drive to Texas to pay off....I don't mind, since I'm not taking the wife!

CHOKERS CHOKERS CHOKERS CHOKERS CHOKERS CHOKERS CHOKERS CHOKERS NOT ONCE OR TWICE OR THREE OR FOUR OR 5 OR 6 OR 7 OR 8 TIMES. JAMES AND WADE HAVE NO BALLS WHEN IT MATTERS. CELTICS ALL HAVE BALLS CHAMPS GO GREEN!!!!

I'm sick of hearing about the refs all over the media and from the Boston fans.
The calls at the rim.. I mean, some of them we get, some of them we dont, same with boston...thats the game and you have to play through it on both sides.
What's killing us are all the non calls on Boston before we or they get a shot off is whats pissing me off, they are just shoving us around, literally.
They've been doing this for 4 years now from the moment the game starts in the playoffs. Hand checking, slapping, pushing, shoving. Just non stop small fouls. It's who this Boston team is, and NOBODY in the media notices this for 4 years now.
Look at the game tape. Even the 90's Knicks and Heat didn't push, slap, and poke this much. It's disgusting. They just do it so much the refs eyes go blind from it.
If they called the game correct from the beginning, every Boston player would have 5 fouls on the bench in the first quarter.

D has bitter beer face.

Posted by: Big Baby | June 06, 2012 at 09:37 AM
You can't blame the Boston players - it works for them. I wish our team had that identity and played that way.
But if we start doing it now, we'll get called every time, the refs eyes arent used to seeing our players like that.
This may sound crazy, but its just true, Boston for four years fouls non stop in every playoff game they try from the first minute, and gets away with it.
It sets a tone for the game, wears down the other team, and also wears down the refs.
You can't win against that unless you do the same and out do them at it, or just have players like Lebron and Wade on fire and unstoppable all game.
If the Celtics hand Rondo last year, they would have beat the heat most likely with their aggressive play....
The NBA can't call games all season, and against other teams one way, and then when the playoffs come just let everyone push and shove non stop from the first minute. They have to blow that whistle right away and consistently from the beginning. It's starting to look like a rugby game out there.

I'm tired of arguing the Ref's cheating
If "Spo" won't call the Ref's out, It will keep happening
To me Spo is to blame. Even in the boston Highlights U see boston getting away with fouls.
Posted by: Dashi | June 06, 2012 at 09:47 AM
I'm beginning to agree with senor Dashi, Spo is clueless..
Posted by: FZB | June 06, 2012 at 09:53 AM
D: "I'm sick of hearing about the refs all over the media and from the Boston fans."
and then you go on to complain about the refs for the next 3 paragraphs. What a joke.
Celtics are a better TEAM. Wade and Lebron are 2 great players. Two very unlikable players if you live outside of the Miami, but great nonetheless. I wonder which one of them will end up somewhere else next year, once they lose game 6 and this experiment is declared a failure :)
GO CELTICS

For years, the 1986 NBA Draft has been considered to be the worst in history. Isn't it time for the 2003 draft to be "awarded" that mantle? If three out of the top four draft picks in one draft wind up on the same team in their alleged prime and can't win a championship -- or even make the finals in their second year, when the kinks were supposed to work out -- then that really couldn't have been a good year, could it?
But, fear not, Cheat fans. Your beloved Botch, Fade and Shames will go to London and be piggybacked to a meaningless gold medal.
LeFraud Shames is, quite frankly, the most unlikeable athlete I have ever seen. Including Terrell Owens, including Barry Bonds, including Roger Clemens, including John Rocker, including anyone. He is just loathsome and I couldn't be happier to see him fail and drag down the sterling reputations of Dwyane Fade and Pat Riley with him.
Posted by: I Know Whereof I Speak | June 06, 2012 at 10:27 AM
Yup, take any sport and Miami fans are the absolute worst in the country.
It's all the refs fault, or it's Spoeltra's fault for not yelling at the refs enough so they would give the game to Miami.
Fact of the matter is Boston got better shots all night long and made HUGE threes at the end of the game to win it.
Posted by: I am Kazaam | June 06, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Kazaam,
it seems like the trend in the NBA is to lose the first two games and then come back to take four in a row-2006 heat, and maybe the thinder and celtics this year. old pick-up game trick we used to call "lulling them into complacency". the heat still have a chance as does san antonio, but the miami ship seems to be coming apart. a raucous crowd in boston isn't going to help the heat, upon whom everybody seems to have given up; still takes four wins and the heat and spurs will have opportunities to show their mettle.
Posted by: the shadow knows | June 06, 2012 at 10:42 AM
I don't know if that's a trend Shadow.
I read recently that when a team goes up 2-0 in the nba playoffs that team wins almost 94 percent of the time.
It's almost 85 percent for game 5 winners.
Posted by: Big Baby | June 06, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Kazaam- Agree with you about some fans. Stop bitching about refs, coach, it starts with the players. Also agree with Gregg, James and Wade, 2 of the best players in the league, with James #1. As a TEAM, the Celtics are better, and thats what counts.Thursday night should be interesting.

The frontrunning bullies have once again turned into the trailing cowards. Boston will win by 30 points tomorrow night and it is my sincerest hope that Doc Rivers spends the last two minutes of the game calling timeout after timeout so that the fans can celebrate and Garnett and Pierce can celebrate and so that it can just eat away more and more at LeFraud and Co. I wish them nothing but the worst.

Thanks for that Woodcock, it's easy to lose faith in humanity reading posts from grown men with unhealthy obsessions with a 27 year old ball player whose biggest crime was holding a press conference for charity.

Whoa Woodcock I didn't know you were such a Heat fan.
That's some mighty good rant there.
Posted by: Big Baby | June 06, 2012 at 11:53 AM
I have no problems with LeBron, the last time I checked he hadn't robbed a bank or killed someone. He's a basketball player if someone is willing to give him the jack that he got so be it. This is the USA not Cuba we live in a capitalist society. More power to him. The guy is a great player he has had the misfortune of playing for two chumps. If he played for a good coach he'd have a ring by now. In life management is everything.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | June 06, 2012 at 12:20 PM
That wasn't really what I was inquiring about but ok.
Posted by: Big Baby | June 06, 2012 at 12:27 PM
He wouldn't have gotten a ring in Cleveland with the Ghost of Red Auerbach or Phil Jackson coaching that team.
Now you are just talking crazy.
Posted by: Big Baby | June 06, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Sorry, I disagree with you. Spoelstra and Brown are not good coaches. A good coach would have easily won a title with that Cleveland team or this Heat team. My opinion.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | June 06, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Don't make me bring up the starting 5's for those Cleveland teams Woodcock.
It's not pretty.

What about in Miami? Big Baby
All of U who hate on the man. It's probably cause U have someone close to U that is a Fan of Lebron. U guys are just hater's for the reason of hate. IT's Usually the same Azz Clown's that come on here with the name-calling.
It starts with the players but it ends with the coach. If we didn't have the big 3 and the same coach we would be the bobcat's. If we had the big 3 and a real coach we would've won last year and waiting for OKC to finish off the Spurs.
Posted by: Dashi | June 06, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Miami was a #1 seed with the best home record in the NBA.
No more BS excuses about coaching please.

I don't quite have the confidence that Simmons (Bill is that you?) has.

Sorry I'm a little late to the party..
Simmons, You are facking come mierda, get lost you maggot...what woodcock said about you goes double from me...wow, I feel a lot better now.
Dashi and woodcock are correct our coach sucks but to his defense Riley has not gotten us a center or a point guard, that's on him.
why would he start Haslem over Anthony ?..I mean they both suck but Anthony is more athelic and a little bigger, Bosh coming back was a plus but he is clearly not 100%.
52 days to training camp !!!!!!

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.
But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!
Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

I think you should read what you wrote and re post it. I don't think you really meant to say that.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | June 06, 2012 at 05:36 PM
Kazaam, my friend wrote this to another friend of mine who is a former Marine who did four tours of duty as a sniper in Afghanistan and who is having a real hard time adjusting to life as a civilian and who is pretty upset about his experience. I would never dream of posting this on this blog except that today is D Day and what you wrote struck a chord wit me. I'll just let you decide for yourself after you read this if you still think that WWII veterans were "the last ones to sacrifice to preserve our way of life."
Well, you know, my daughter joined the Army of her own free will, following in her father's footsteps, a fact of which I happen to be rather proud. Anyhow, death in war is no more pointless than death in an auto accident, death from cancer, falling victim to a serial killer, etc. But at least soldiers mortally wounded on the battlefield have their friends by their side as they breathe their last. Lexi (that's my daughter and incidentally she's an MP) personally witnessed two deaths of this type while serving in Afghanistan. She held one dying soldier's hand and said the Act of Contrition with him as he breathed his last.
When she was a little girl, my daughter used to complain that she had no brothers. Now she says that she has a couple of dozen brothers: the male soldiers of her platoon. I've had a couple of opportunities to meet these young men. Sure, they're a bunch of twentysomething headbangers with too many tattoos, mostly from humble backgrounds, but personally I'd take any one of them over you, any day.

NO NEWS?
nate webster, former cane and NFL LB, is convicted of statutory rape and nowhere in the herald's on-line service has there been a mention. we will mention here that on the 6th of june the noble soldiers who have given life and limb for our country. the fact that some of the military actions have been of dubious legality/morality does not detract from what our military has done to keep the world free from the clutches of dictators, tyrants, and genocidal maniacs. one day in may, one in november and d-day are not sufficient to remind us of the sacrifices of so many.

A Veteran is A Veteran. Respect all of them. Army,Navy,Marine,Air Force
If U want to be Literal we only defended this country during The Revolution. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 was only one day of a country attacking us. Vietnam the Soldiers are not to blame. U should be mad at the President's of the time not the men.
Respect everyone that goes to war for U. Even the Fruit Cakes. They got bigger balls than U
Let's stick to sports, please.
The Heat are not #1 in the NBA, not even in the East. They have the 2 seed.
That right side of the line will be a good competition. RG and RT, Even though I will like Martin to start at RT. He was a LT at Stanford for 4 years. IT would be nice to be set at LT,RT,and C for the next decade. If Jerry happens to finally get it. We will have a strength and not a weakness.
Jake isn't going anywhere. As soon as he got drafted the Dolphins could've retired his number. Parcell's made Sure if he had to chose 1 guy #1 in the draft, he would chose the only guy Spo wouldn't mess up. Long was already a future hall-of-famer before the draft.
U have to remember T-hill still doesn't have money. Wait until the signing bonus, so he can buy her some Upgrade's. Put her on a rice and Beans diet. Hey, we never talked about Henne's wife. This Kid already has one up on him. If he doesn't bullet the ball off the backs in the flat. Bingo, we might have a winner.

My compliments to your friend and ALL the members of our armed forces that have serve our great country in ALL wars, I agree that there should not be any but is very comforting to know we live in the greatest country in the world and we are protected by such fine men and women.
regarding the right side oh our offensive line I say we don't have to wait to see if John Jerry is going to finally get it, sign Jake scott as a free agent just in case...RG is the only question mark on the O Line, we are set at all the other spots.
guys, check out this funny clip.

Something along these lines would make nice Heat logo.

Farenheit 451 was a good book.
Those who haven't read it should do so keeping in mind that it was written in 1953.

Baby,
I read that book in HS and had to do an essay on it, as I recall I was very reluctant to read it but did at the professor insistence , as I began to read it I was totally hooked on it, wow I haven't thought about this in ages, I've been hooked on reading ever since.
I DO recommend this book to everyone...Let us hope that books never disappear from schools or colleges or libraries.

Did they make it a movie?
then not that good of a book. Just kidding
It's one of those books about a Future Totalitarian Society, where they outlaw books and take all your rights. The Movie 1984 and Equilibrium are based off the book. 2 great Movies. I love the Fight scene at the end of Equilibrium when Christian Bale loses it. Gotta Watch
We are getting there little by little. Now everything is digital, so books are starting to be phased out. Internet and TV killed the Library. If thing keep moving along in 50 years we will be learning like Neo. Plug a USB to the brain and wait for it to download.
Some of ya might be stuck with a Slow Processors. Sort of like Spo.

1984 is based off '1984'.
Newspapers and magazines and scientific articles are already disappearing - I don't have a kindle but my friend climbed mt. kenya and mt. kilimanjaro with me and read 'Island', 'Sea Wolf', 'American Psycho', and some vonnegut book in a week plus on a single charge.
The saving grace for books is the same thing keeping CDs and DVDs around - people like to display their taste in reading, music, and movies on rich mahogany shelving.
Can Reege Philbin's knockoff Mike McCarthy offense even use a big run blocking FB? Why did we get rid of Lousaka Polite and Lex Hillard?

Nate Webster. Typical Hurricane. Can't spell "scum" without "UM".
Heat should trade Lebron. If they trade Wade, Lebron, being the spoiled infant that he is, will pout and whine that his best friend was traded since he came here to play (but not win) with him. Get rid of the spoiled infant and have him be someone else's problem.
Trade Wade and Bosh, too, actually.
Everyone must go. Underachieving, lazy, heartless, gutless losers.

We got better RB top to bottom. Lane is just a body for training camp. Charles Clay is our FB/H-back. I've also heard Messam was going to be our FB/RB, Spliting Time Clay. Messam had over 1000 yds rushing in the CFL last year. Which is better than the arena league. Plus, Messam is 6'3 245+, And "Allegedly" runs a sub-4.4 40.
The 2 TE's will be Fasano and Egnew. Plus, Egnew will go out as WR sometime. He doesn't need to be the starter this year, so his blocking isn't as important just yet. His versatility is, that looks like an important part of this Offense. A lot of the players will be asked to play Multiple Positions RB/WR, FB/TE/WR, and all the WR's positions are interchangeable in this offense. That's Why Marsha didn't fit, he only plays one WR position.
U got alot of good TE's that don't block in the NFL. Jimmy Graham doesn't block. Keller for the Jets either. Same goes for Hernandez with the Patriots.
McCarthy is Running the same Book Holmgren Left. Which Sherman help create. Mike McCarthy was Sherman's QB Coach at 1 point with the packers while Sherman was OC or Coach. I'm not sure which? Maybe Both?

Dashi- You failed to mention that Gronkwoski, the best TE in the NFL, is a great blocker. He will be the guy every team will try to emulate.

I think the Celtics are going to blow away the Heat by at least 40...
I'm using an old reverse psychological jedi mind trick with the hope the Heat can pull this off a win tonight, if not there are fitty days to training camp people !
Its almost time to talk some football...

Wait, wait, wait, Kaz, did you just casually implied that you had climbed Kilimanjaro? Dude, we're going to need some pics of you with a giant bundle on top of your head walking up the slope with the other Mau Mau haulers as your buddy yells at you to keep up and you yell back, "Yes Bwana!"

What's up peeps!?
I'm back from my stint training poll workers. Wow, that was grueling! And to top it all off, the Registrar of Voters sequestered 17 of us for 17 hours, placing us inside a phone bank bunker, where the group tried to talk poll workers off the ledge, as they phoned in, "freaking out" over a myriad of problems within their polling place on election day.
I highly recommend doing this at least one time in your lives.
Speaking of talking people off ledges...FZB, how's the view?...Kazaam, do we have an Eastern series yet?
I'll say this about that. I really, really hope The Heat...ahem..."rebound" back from the brink, as it would make the series between them and OKC somewhat revealing. Meaning, that is should glaringly show that in basketball, at least, it is far more preferable in having a balanced talented team than one with two superstars supported by a bunch of guys good at drawing a paychecks.
No offense to you or the Celts, Big Baby. It is all for the best. If the Celtics do close out Miami the series against the Thunder would flat out be embarrassing.
How did Moses Malone put it? Oh yes, that's right -- "FO, FO, FO."

woodcock,
I read the same thing but I just ignored it, is Kaz being delusional again.
personal observation-I don't think Kaz has ever gotten laid.

Woodcock,
I think Kazaam is making his claim to being... "The Most Interesting Man in the World."
+ "he once impregnated a sea urchin using his own manhood as the inseminator."

Sorry, Woodcock. I just realized that visual would be the last thing you need to read!
Posted by: OC Dolphin | June 07, 2012 at 12:34 PM
OC !!!!
we missed you around here buddy, well at least I did.
to answer your 'ledges' comment, well it doesn't affect me at all because I'm not a Heat fan anymore, I now follow the Coral Gables sr High school girls basketball team, they are undefeated and nicer to look at.

Anyone can climb Kilimanjaro, it's just hiking. I actually hated it, so crowded it was like a line of slow moving ants on the trail, only bright spot was that we had a blunt to smoke at the summit at sunrise - and on the way down from altitude you feel like a superhuman anyway because of the oxygen, we started for the summit at midnight and made it all the way to the base of the mountain by 7 PM. Mt. Kenya was actually rock climbing at the summit, I couldn't get down before it got dark and the ropes froze and had to spend a night on the wall.
Laugh all you want at marine science, I'm being fully funded to spend July in Australia diving from a liveaboard boat. You're spending your days being kidnapped by pollsters for 17 hours at a time.
