G2: Heat 115, Celtics 111: Barely counts. Miami seizes 2-0 series lead with OT thriller

Click on Heat Stand Tall, Celtics Hit the Deck for my column off last night's Game 2. I am duty-bound to offer the link, although, given the excruciating deadline situation, I felt like getting up at 5 a.m. and stealing papers off lawns like in that scene from Absence Of Malice. Also, I weighed phoning in a bomb threat to the Internet so nobody could read the column online either, but I couldnt find a phone number.

G2: HEAT 115, CELTICS 111 (OT): MIAMI SURVIVES 44 POINTS BY RONDO: Miami shot only 44 percent, missed 16 free throws, allowed Rajon Rondo to run wild for 44 points, but somehow still won. Credit the no-quit Celtics -- respect your elders! -- but credit Miami even more for prevailing on a night that Boston controlled for a long time. LeBron James did not shoot well (7-for-20) but got to the free-throw line 24 times and scored 34 points. Dwyane Wade shook off a 2-point first half to end with 23. And Mario Chalmers came up big (as he has much of this postseason) with 22. This loss has to be crushing for Boston, now down 2-0. What might be more depressing for this team than to know even 44 points by Rondo isn't enough? Pregame: San Antonio commands Oklahoma City 2-0 in the NBA's Western Conference finals and now Miami is about to pull the same number on Boston 1aa1heatcelticsin the East tonight in the bayside gym. Heat won comfortably enough in Game 1 to take the foot off the gas late, and can't see much of a different result tonight. One change will be Boston's effort to defend the paint better. Heat was 21-for-27 inside Monday night including 19 dunks or layups. A more physical Leprechaun effort is in store, with Rajon Rondo generating much chatter asserting Heat players have "got to hit the deck." Then again the slightest breeze qualifies as tough talk in the playoffs, courtesy Your Friend the Media, which treats the mildest controversy like currency. As when Dwyane Wade responded, "We're not gonna let anyone come in and punk us." Ooo-oooh! (Aside to Boston with the let's-get-physical talk: Um ... how'd that work out for the Pacers?) The fact is Boston is just not a healthy team right now, aggravating the natural creakiness of age. Ray Allen can barely play on that ankle. Paul Pierce is obviously not himself. Avery Bradley's absence really hurts, especially defensively. Also, Kevin Garnett's scowl and demeanor reads tough guy, but he's content in his career's winter to settle for little jumpers and not take full advantage of his (theoretically) being the most dominant "big" in this series. It feels like the end is near for this era of Celtics basketball.

RIGHT - The celtics want to do everything to distract the Heat. The Heat have to RUNRUNRUN and then RUNRUNRUN some more!!!! The Heat have to fast break and fast break and fast break continuous. The celtics want to play a slow game. NO!!!! RUNRUNRUN...Heat.

Well what's on today's agenda. BASKETBALL OH I'M OVERJOYED. I know I could just get lost or BEAT IT till it has calluses but I love this Abstract Universe.

Cote, the DA's office is looking for you. That Herald video shows that there were two losers running around naked trying to eat that guy's face off.

FZB, you know that all they have in Texas are steers and queers and the last time I checked OC don't have no horns on his head.

Football? Yup 'm up for some FOOTBALL!

After Sea of Hands game this clip should make Dolphin fans cum...

Stock market dips after revelation that Willard M. Romney is a habitual compulsive liar. That's never a good thing. Be vigilant and exercise prudence.

I know it was all quite awhile ago but it was best this franchise ever served up.

OK, no more living in the past. The Dolphins since Csonka, Kiick & Warfield HAD to take the $$$$ & run. In a sport like football and pitiful wages at the time who wouldn't have...?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJrtROuQFfk&feature=related

It's time to say "auf wiedersehn" to Jurgen Klinsmann and end this epic fail of an experiment. And he can take Dim Howard, Chokeanegra and Cooch Onyewu with him. What a disgraceful, embarrassing, pathetic, unacceptable, inexcusable, unforgivable "effort" against Brazil's JV squad tonight. Enough.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- LeFraud will NEVER win a ring. Those two clanks after the clear path foul changed the game and changed the series. Celtics in 6. Pat Riley, please amnesty this bum already!

lies.

Thuthteller,

Go back crawl back to whatever shit hole you came from and stay there..Moron.

The Celtics are a tough bunch, I tall you all before the game, the Heat are lucky to have won.

Fire Spo

Where is the consistency?

The heat almost lost cause he Can't coach

Remember what I said about lebron getting tired/choking in the 4th? JA is going to cost this clown his job.

I can't believe these haters, Let the heat do their thing,Bosh will be back and its ring time.

Great Game - Thanks Chalmers for picking up Slack - His points discounted some of Rondo's lucky day.

Lucky Day my ass it's a new day for that young point guard who is a superstar player.

Period.

On to the finals. This series is over. Lebron and Wade vs Duncan. I like Miami's chances.

No it's on to Boston first Tommy Boy.

See you there in that dorky white T shirt.

The stupidity of some fans amazes me.

If you couldn't enjoy last night's game then this Heat team has nothing to offer you, go follow Jai Lai or something.

Nah Woodcock's right.

Pierce is gimpy.

Ray Allen has a sprained ankle.

No Avery Bradley to play lockdown D like he does on Wade.

Celtics will be lucky to win 2 games this series.

Maybe 1 or none is more likely.

That truly was a great game.

Conspiracy theorists (of which I am not one) can argue that David Stern wants the Heat in the Finals and I wouldn't totally disagree though.

No way Pierce should have fouled out.

LeBron never gets called for fouls.

Whatever the game was good and entertaining.

Still believe it.

IMO it took far too long for voodoo to work itself into the Miami Zombie story.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDmohtfhUx4

Big Baby, the kid had one of the greatest playoff games of all time. Miami is a good team but not a disciplined team. Lebron and Wade almost lost that game at the free throw line. They are going to have to play much, much better to beat San Antonio. If the Celtics bench doesn't step it up they will be going fishing next week.

LeBron is so athletic and long that he can play D without having to foul, and on offense he doesn't pick up many offensive fouls again because of his athleticism and the fact that there are few willing to get run over by a freight train.

There's no voodoo here the calls will even up in Boston.

Baby Fat

Celtics are done

What bench woodcock?

They don't have one right now.

You are right about his abilty to play defense with out fouling.

He should probably get called for a few more though.

That Rondo performance was one for the ages.

Kazaam,

well, this is looking to be the first of the multiple championships you have said this team is built for; however, it seems the building block named bosh is not as vital (to this juncture in the playtoffs) as he was supposed to be. i like san antonio because they have kawhi leonard of the terrific SDSU team that got jobbed against uconn in the college tournament. it seems that even with an aged tim duncan they will be tough for miami, but with wade in form, #6 and any contribution from chalmers, haslem,... your guys might be celebrating.

mike1,

i guess i didn't miss anything by not watching brazil's u-23 team, basically, outscore the gringos 4-1. how in the world is that big guy still playing on the back line for the red, white, and blue? was it he that got the hand ball call that sent the brazilians off to the races? did i miss seeing the linebacker sized "hulk" play for brazil? i will do my best to stay up to watch el tri tonight and see if my radiuo picks up andres kantor doing the radio of the game at 820 on the AM side. euro 12 getting closer so have a safe trip and root for a winner- the dutch might not even get out of the group stage as they have portugal and somebody else that is good. however, we alaways look for c ronaldo to fold in internationals.

Hey Shadow, congratulations on SC's new sponsor. The university just announced that in the wake of all the positive publicity generated by the porn video filmed in the Coliseum that from now on the stadium will be known as the Trojan Condoms Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Nice.

http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2012/05/gangbang_girl_32_porn_la_coliseum.php

mike1,

that other "good team" is from germany. it does seem that the dutch have the best players of the three, but germany is a lock and c ronaldo might actually have a good few games.

Soccer?

Shadow - I didn't say that this team was put together to win multiple championships, Pat Riley, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh did.

Don't think that Orlando could get anything better for Dwight Howard than Chris Bosh.

Howard could stay now that he got what he wanted in Orlando.

That is one lopsided deal that you are dreaming about.

Celtics chocked big time. Blew 15 points lead. Only reason they stayed in the game because heat missed 16 free throws. It won't happen again. Great performance by Rondo. It will be in the records book. I am sure that he would rather have a win in game #2. Celtics will go fishing soon. Heat in 4.

And rico1 will learn to speak English soon.

Boys,

the Heat are very lucky they won the game last night, I wish we had Rondo, Chalmers had a very surprising big game but I still think the guy is horrible.

The C's have to be tired, the regulars played almost the entire game and they only have one day of rest before the next game plus they have no bench, if we can get past the C's (I think they will) we won't be able to compete against SA without Bosh, SA looks like the best team out there.

going back to the game for a moment, I know the Celtics fans are complaining about the ref's but they Celtics are not a team that attacks the basket like the Heat does, I'm sure the Ref's missed on a couple of calls but in the end everything tends to even out.

If the Heat would have made 10 more free throws we would not be having this discussion.

Kaz, Howard for Bosh ?...I would make that deal all day long but I think it will take a lot more than that.

Marlins win again !...Stanton is the shit, that kid has talent.

NBA trades are usually lopsided, especially when there's a star player demanding to be traded with only one year left on his contract. Howard can just tell Orlando 'trade me to X' and Orlando would be forced to get the best deal they can out of that team or lose him for nothing in a year.

The ideal scenario for Howard went out the window last night when the Nets didn't get the #1 or even a top 5 pick. Now they're trying to swing Brook Lopez and something called MarShon Brooks for him instead.

I'd sure rather rebuild with Bosh than Brook Lopez. Then again I would avoid at all costs trading Howard within the division. It's all up to Howard, he can go wherever he wants and Orlando will have to facilitate it.

Keep wishing FZB but you may not have Rondo.

Dude you have two of the best players in the league on your team.

Try not to get too greedy.

Kazaam wants Howard he is greedy too.

Baby,

Your right about our two guys, Chalmers is not even 10% the player that Rondo is...I'll even take J Nelson from the magic over him.

You guys are in trouble now, We are going to unleash our secret weapon on friday, Dexter Pittman he he, He is going to slam Garnett to the ground and both we'll get tossed.

I'm sick and tired of the praising of Rajon Rondo taking place today. Rajon Rondo? More like Ragin' Fraud. Put up great individual numbers in a loss. Hooray. I won't even slow-clap that. He's a loser.

Hey you might think you're the big baby on this blog but Kaz is twice the baby that you are.

I'm Right has strong internet muscles and isn't afraid to flex them.

Dude's jacked.

Hey Big Baby. Your Celtics are big chockers. Eat it!!!
That is the reason they lost. They are done. Early fishing season for them. Blew a 15 point lead. Largest ever in a play off game. And the Heat bench shoved it down their throats. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

rico1 has completed his ESL classes but still needs to work on spelling.

I'm Right,

You are an imbecile, Rondo had a game for the ages, only players like Byrd, Jordan , LeBron, Magic etc have games like that...That was greatness.

Woodcock, you're right about senor Kazaam, He is a bigger baby than Big Baby.

Sooo, Is OKC going to show up tonight ?

Hey FZB, the Heat are not lucky, they are gooooood!!!!
The role players are coming through now. The only reason the Celtics were in the game is because the Heat missed 16 freebies. Otherwise, is not even close.Rondo had a great performance. He won't do it again.Probably he will go back to his regular game, 10 per game.He should have saved a few baskets for games 3 and 4. Heat is 4 and then we will be ready for the Spurs.By the way, they have never faced a defense like The Heat plus 2 of the best playes in the NBA,

Hey Rico. The Celtics are a big joke. They almost lost to the Sixers and you were expecting them to beat the Heat.I was looking forward to a more competitive play off series. The Sixers would have given the Heat a better one.KG looks like someone who is just standing there. Plays 3 minutes out for 7 with an oxygen tank and a mask next to him. What a joke. I have the broom out.Heat in 4. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!. LEBRON MVPMVPMVPMVP!

rico1,

Trust me, I love the Heat but the way SA is playing I don't know, they only have won 20 freakin games in a row !

Without Bosh we have no shot plus we have a very inconsistent bench from Chalmers on down and they go like twelve deep on their rotation..

By the way rico1, easy with the cuban coffee.

I dedicate this song to Obama.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI1z7xgeGsI

FZB, I am not worried about the Spurs. Their run is going to end tonight. When they go back to San Antonio, the series will be even. They will go into a game 7 and they will be all tired up.In the meantime, After disposing of the chockers Celtics, the Heat will be fresh. And if Bosh is not ready, I think he will be, Spo will make the adjustments.I like the fact that the Heat may be the underdogs if Bosh is not ready. I like being the underdogs with Lebron, Wade and the supporting cast. Go Heat!!!!!!

I'm Right, what time do you get off today at 7-11?

FZB, you can't talk to Rico Suave like that he's a legend in his own mind.

Oye Rico, put down the bong, dude. I can't stand the Celtics but you gotta give credit where it's due. The Celtics are the top franchise in the association. They have 17 rings and are a legend in American sports. When you say things like Rondo sucks all you're doing is talking out of your ass.

Rico it is time to go to your job as a valet. Make sure the brakes on your bike are up to snuff. Look both ways when you cross the street.

Love the Marlins orange jerseys. Gotta give them credit for dumping the light blue crap they wore for years. Not to mention the dropping of the loser "Florida" tag and replacing it with the "Magic City" name. You gotta tip your cap to that SOB Ozie he sure has those boys playing good baseball.

Rondo sucks.

Woodcock swallows.

Kazaam,

sorry for the misapprobation re the multiple heat titles. to show you the decline in play in the NBA, let us look at the early 1980's (pre-moses) 76ers versus the currently contending heat:

C: heat have no one at present, 76ers darryl dawkins or joe bryant (granted bosh out)

F: of course lebron james would be the best on the court, but the next four best would all be from philadelphia- erving ( not even gonna argue dr j v lebron), mcginnis, steve mix, and bobby jones, who might have slowed down lebron james a tad.

G; #3 for the locals would be the best, but the next three- maurice cheeks, doug collins, and the incredible lloyd free would all come before mario chalmers. i dont think that andrew toney, a very ggod player and scorer, was on the team that lost to the lakers in 1980.

and this group lost to the lakers, even losing game 6 w/o KAJ but witrh a game foir the ages from magic and a 35+ game from keithjamaal wilkes. and this was a pre-worthy laker team!!!

please feel free to rebut any of the above mentioned opines, but methinks that the 1980 76ers might have taken the journeyman laden heat of this year without losing a game (yes, out on a very big limb).

Kazaam,

i got my wires crossed on the 77-78 sixers and trhe 79-80 sixers. lloyd free and mcginnis were gone by the 79-80 club, but would still say that erving, ix and bobby jones rate above udonis haslem, and that after wade would come doug collins and mo cheeks. by 1980 dawkins was up to about 14 points per game, as i remember, and pulled down 9 rebounds per on a very talented front line for the sixers. the heat would win one game from the 79-80 team and from the 77-78 team, but without question did not have the depth and depth of talented players that the 76ers did. bobby jones, after coming from the ABA, was first team all-D an incredible amount of consecutive years.

Fact, the reason that your mom won't answer your phone calls is that she's currently occupied sucking on my jonhson.

Shadow - well, you give me an early '80s to modern day football match up and I can give you an answer because HGH, modern training, HGH, bigger talent pools, HGH, and HGH have made those kinds of comparisons open and shut cases.

That's not so much the case with basketball but unfortunately I've never seen those 76er teams play and you've never watched this Heat team on a regular basis.

But what I can tell you is that individual comparisons won't give us the answer and this Heat team is not what you probably think it is. They don't win by having their two superstars making uncontested highlight dunks all night, they play the best team defense in the league with lots of switches, gambling, and recovery. And they get the majority of their points in the paint, a formula for success in any era.

I can't comment on the 'decline' of the NBA, I started watching when Michael Jordan was dominating the league and it's been great as long as I've been watching.

Why do you think the league is in decline? Is it just that the talent is spread too thin across too many franchises?

That's a typical geezer reaction. "Ah, err, Kaz, they don't make them like they used to anymore. Why in my day when men were men........." Ah blow it out your ass!

If the 76ers were big and deep with big men then I'd say they had the right makeup to give the Heat problems but I'm not sure that any team in the history of the NBA would be likely to sweep this Heat team in 4.

They're pretty good at basketball.

Haha, the ABA stuff looks like a Globetrotters game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DebtVv87jDc

The 69'ers had a better Coach

Fire Spo

They had players that are better coaches than SPO

Let's kill this thread and talk about Miami Hurricoons fooseball like Kazaam did yesterday.

I am beginning to think that Bosh has woman parts.

Kazaam, the Magic Johnson Showtime Lakers would have swept the Heat in 4 games while taking time out to bang two or three cheerleaders at halftime. I mean you gotta be kidding me. Bro, the Heat just has two good players, LeBron and Wade, Kareem would have scored 75 points in the first half alone.

Specially With JA gaurding him.

Hey if Majic can cure AIDS. maybe he can cure the Heat

I went to see a double header when I was in High School at the Miami Beach Convention Center where the Floridians played. The Floridians were the Miami ABA team and they sucked the big wally. I was there to see them play Artis Gilmore's Kentucky Colonels team in the second game. In the first game they had the Virginia Squires with rookie Julius Erving. He was a 19 year old kid with an afro bigger than the basketball. He was unbelievable jumping over guys like they were nailed to the floor. He would take a rebound way above the rim with one hand and go the length of the court and stuff the ball. I don't think anyone had ever seen any thing like that before.

Typical geezer reaction.

Kazaam, if you're a nice young man and can avoid having some whack job eat your face and actually make it to my age, you will realize that nothing really changes in 30 years. Talent is talent no matter what. Check out the NBA channel's Best Team Ever documentary. That team would have taken our last Olympic team and cleaned their teeth with those guys like if they were tooth picks. Moron.

The Rim has always been at 10 ft, since the beginning. The last big change was the 3-pt line like 40 years ago.

Dr. J was palming the ball 20 years before MJ

Even though the NBA has more teams now . The Average player is the only thing better now, but an All-time great fits in any era. Kareem, Wilt, Russell, Bird, Majic, Dr. J, Hakeem, Shaq, MJ, Etc.

Those Top 50 can still play now. Notice how LBJ or Rondo Do something Historic, but someone else has already done something more amazing

Bill russell had a 40 pt 30 reb playoff game.

Kobe scored 82 and that is not the most all-time.

Wow woodcock, A Floridians reference, if memory serves me correctly i think they where the first team to have cheerleaders ( in bikinis no less ).

Dashi, what's with all this hate for coach Spo ?..Who would you rather have instead ?

Kazaam,

hey, that #6 guy could really dunk! and on the last one he took about the same number of steps without dribbling that today's fellers are allowed in games.

Alright, finally a topic to which I can meaningfully respond. rico1 is wrong. Rico should be in caps(ie RICO)with no #1 attached. RICO refers to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Anyone living in South Florida, the US or on Mother Earth during the 1980s BLIZZARD should that!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Edward_g_robinson.jpg

Kazaam,

the greatest day in NBA history was the final sunday of the season when david thompson and george gervin had their shootouts for the scoring title. if i remember, david thompson scored something close to 60 to seemingly take the scoring crown, only to have gervin in a later game go for over 60 (i think) to win the title. and of course, both had been in the ABA before the NBA, who shoulda paid the ABA teams to join, blackmailed the five ABA teams into joining at like $5 million per squad. i think the owners of the st. louis spirits, home of the hugely talented but highly bi-polar marvin barnes, are still earning TV money and will as long as the NBA exists, to the tune of many millions. there are way too many teams in the NBA and too many in the playoffs. but those huge TV contracts for the post-season are not going anywhere.

The list is long. Trust me.

I don't hate the man, Spo is a "great" guy. He's just in over his head with this team. This heat team would be a team U give to a guy that is smart, has done this a while(Doesn't Have to have a title, Not many of those guys available) and knows how to motivate his team. I'm just Critical of his "Performance" and "Inconsistency".

Un like some people which blame all the Heats failure on Bron or Wade only. I just want people to start giving him some responsibility for the teams inconsistent play. This is SPO's team and we only go as far as he coaches us.

Sweet Jesus, I meant, "should KNOW that!" Hey there but for the Grace of God go I...

If the Heat don't win a championship this year it'll be Bosh and/or Spoelstra that go, not James or Wade.

So it doesn't much matter if the national media and an idiot contingency of Heat fans think that losing in game 6 of the Finals in year 1 and a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals in year 2 is a failure that needs to be blamed on someone.

Here i sit broken hearted came to shit but only farted.

I agree Kaz. I've been on the record if SPO wins I'll give him the credit he deserves. Until then, he hasn't won anything and is inconsistent. So, I'm going to be critical of him and his performance.

I'm just tired of everyone blaming Lebron and Wade. Those 2 are not the problem. If it wasn't for them 2 we wouldn't even be having "championship expectations". Or any of these good debates we have. I agree it's either bosh or Spo, or it could be both. My Pick

This team was made with the expectations to win it every year. Anything less than a title is a failure. If U reach the NBA finals 2 years in a row and fail, that should be considered a failure.

U think at the end of the day Boston Succeeded or failed? only winning 1 title in 5 years with the big 3 they have. I would say they failed by their standards.

The Miami Heat Should not become the Buffalo Bills.
They Went to 4 straight superbowls and failed

There comes a point for certain thing that if U don't do it. U are considered a failure

Every year that passes and Lebron doesn't win a title. He becomes a bigger failure to people. That is Lebrons personal failure he carries.

But who should be "held responsible" if the team fails? Riley took responsibility last year saying he didn't put the team together right. Pat, is a stand-up guy.

This year we have a bench. So, No one can even say 1 word about we don't have players. We don't use our players.

Dashi is a douchie.

WTF, another Hannibal the Cannibal is on the loose. Either social services in their respective areas get these people something to eat AND some EFFECTIVE meds or we're likely to have more CHUDS on our hands.

Sister Mary Elephant, with all due respect I squeezed off such a large and aerodynamically shaped deuce this morning I nearly came. Took 12 years off my life. Try some NEW AND IMPROVED SUPER Colon-Blow Cereal.

r.duke: it's called taking a Dashi.

Whatever it's name it was smooth, long and didn't even smell bad....

Hey Roy, Sigfried is calling time till film another fruit cake sex tape. This time He said he was going to use a tiger on u. Be careful. Flamer. Member what happen last time

Hey, look "Roy" is a Fan of the Great One. Too bad It would've been fun, but i'm retired Roy from cracking U silly trolls in half.

What have U posted?
Just Talk about the Dashi. Do I Turn U on? Do U FantaSize about how big it is? Fruit Cake
It would've been great taking my meat out ur mouth. Oops, I mean my name.

Roy L, looks you just made a new friend...

^^^^ UR JUST THE SAME AS ALL OF US

Can't we all just get along?

Hopefully LeBron won't take more foul shots than the entire Celtics TEAM like the other night.

What a crock.

Celtics fans are such crybabies, the Heat were in the top 5 drawing fouls in the regular season, Boston was 25th.

The Heat drive to the basket all game long and Boston shoots jump shots. It'll be an outrage if they shoot the same number of free throws in a game.

The Heat won game 1 by double digits and Boston fans blamed three technical fouls.

Boston gave up a double digit lead in game 2 and Boston fans blame the 5 more free throws the Heat made.

Boston sucks and so do its bean slurping fans.
