1aa1fripix COUNTDOWN: 1 Day Til Upset Bird! Friday NFL predictions page debuts Sept. 9.

1aa1fantasyfb REALITY CHECK FOR FANTASY TEAMS: I am league manager for a modest little six-team family fantasy football league, we just had our draft and now I invite you to judge how we did based on each team's top five draft picks listed in order. It's a standard league. Which team would you most take based on what you see (and why)? Poll remains open, but here is how you voted as of around 6:45 p.m. Thursday: 36.7%---Team 2/My youngest son; 25.7%---Team 5/My oldest son's girlfriend; 15.8%---Team 6/My brother; 13.0%---Team 1/My oldest son; 5.6%---Team 4/Me; and 3.2%---Team 3/My wife. In other words my team has the full support of about 1 in 17 of you. Oy!

1aa1jacoryh JACORY HARRIS NAMED CANES' STARTING QB: Tuesday coach Al Golden says the QB competition remains an open battle. One day later, today, he names Jacory Harris (pictured) the starter in the next game vs. Ohio State. Hmm. Leads one to believe Harris won the battle during camp and would have started Game 1 at Maryland if not suspended. The interesting what-if is who'd be starting the next game if UM had won its opener or Stephen Morris had played even better.

LARRY JOHNSON. He's BACK!: Dolphins re-signed RB Larry Johnson today/Thursday, confirming what ESPN first reported earlier today.

DOLPHINS 60-1 IN UPDATED SUPER BOWL ODDS: Bodog's final, post-preseason NFL Super Bowl odds have a top tier of Patriots at 11-2, Packers 7-1 and Eagles 15-2, followed by Chargers 11-1, Saints and Jets 12-1, and Steelers 13-1. Miami is at 60-1, just below mid-pack tied for 20th. AFC East win total over/unders are Pats 11.5, Jets 10, Dolphins 7.5 and Bills 5.5.

1aa1bachmann POLITICIAN GOES DEEP FOR VOTES: No I am not making fun of right-wing presidental candidate Michelle Bachmann. Why would you say that, Tea Baggers? Au contrere, I think this photo of her from the campaign trail should be seen as good publicity: a hard-working politician among the people at a hometown fair, expertly taking in a super-sized corn dog. I think she may have won Bill Clinton's vote no I'm just kidding. God Bless America!
