Fredi Gonzalez on the firing line? (with poll); plus JaMarcus Russell and Dolphins, shame of Lawrence Taylor, TSA GenitalGate, Wade's wild week & more

[VIVA LAS COTE: Why. Why? Why!? Why hasn't the blog been updated for a couple of days? It is because Greg Cote -- that's me-- is enjoying some R&R in Las Vegas through Tuesday. Will be back with a new blogpost Wednesday, inevitably including notes about my mini-vacation. Meantime I am left to fathom which is the greater horror: The amount of money I am losing in the casinos. Or what my party-inclined sons, ages 18 and 22, are doing to my house while I'm gone.

IS FREDI ON THE FIRING LINE?: The whispers are out there. The Marlins are in a little bit of a funk and it would not surprise anyone close to the team if owner Jeffrey Loria was pondering a managerial change. Remember that Loria and president David Samson both stated flatly they expected a playoff season, which I and others saw as very optimistic and tantamount to setting Gonzalez up to fail. My take? The swoon is not Fredi's fault and it is much too soon to ponder a change. The team is struggling primarily because Chris Coghlan is sophomore-slumping, because Cameron Maybin has disappointed and because the bullpen has been lousy or at best erratic. Give Coghlan and Maybin a bit more time, promote sensational Mike Stanton in June, make a trade for a solid veteran setup reliever -- that's what this team needs, not a different manager. But that's just me. Take a dip in our poll and share your thoughts.

JAMARCUS RUSSELL TO DOLPHINS?: Hey this isn't me saying this. I just got some most-likely-destination odds from Bodog.com (unsolicited) and Miami is 6-1 to end up with Russell, the former overall No. 1 draftee-turned-bust QB with the Raiders. Only teams seen as more likely are Cardinals at 3-1, Bills at 7-2 and Jaguars at 4-1. I would doubt any real interest; then again that's a ton of still-untapped potential in a still-young guy if the price is right. I'm just saying.

1aascan TSA GENITAL-GATE: Have you read this bizarre story about the Miami airport federal security screener arrested for attacking a TSA coworker? Apparently the victim and others had been making fun of the attacker ever since a full-body scan conducted during a training session had revealed some (ahem) private shortcomings. You know what bothers me here? Not so much the guy who'd had enough and went nuts. Not even the obvious invasiveness (pictured) of those scanners. No, what really bothers me is the idea that our trusted TSA  agents -- these adults in charge of rooting out terrorists -- are giggling and teasing and yukking around making small pee-pee jokes like a bunch of [bleep]ing preteens in a [bleep]ing middle school cafeteria. Fire everybody involved and give them back their [bleep]ing Wackenhut uniforms.

1aalt SHAME EQUALS FAME FOR LAWRENCE TAYLOR: Click on Train Wreck for today's column by me on the arrest of former Giants star Lawrence Taylor (pictured making bail yesterday) in the rape of a 16-year-old girl -- the latest in a long list of arrests and drug abuse. Dan Patrick was debating today whether Halls of Fame should expel members related to off-field or post-career embarrassments. I think not. But I do think players' official Hall plaques should be updated to reflect the entirety of lives. That includes O.J. Simpson's. That would include Pete Rose's if he ever gets in. Likewise Taylor's Hall plaque should at least mention his controversial side.

DRAFT STOCK RISING: UM'S ALLEN BAILEY: Mel Kiper's first Big Board on the 2011 NFL draft projects Hurricanes defensive end Allen Bailey going 16th overall. If that holds, or is even close, Bailey figures to be the highest-drafted Cane since Antrel Rolle went 8th in 2005.

1aadwandpaul WADE'S WILD WEEK: The highs and lows in Dwyane Wade's life continue extreme. One day he endures a lawsuit from his estranged wife claiming his relationship with actress Gabrielle Union has caused their kids emotional duress. The next day he is named first-team All-NBA for the second straight year. We celebrate the latter achievement with a photo of what it would look like if Wade and Chris Paul morphed into one person.

HEAT HOPING DRAFT RATED PG?: For what it's worth the first (of 843) NBA mock drafts by ESPN's Chad Ford is out and he has the Heat selecting Kentucky point guard Eric Bledsoe 18th overall. Think I'd be more excited if it was the other Kentucky point guard, John Wall, but he's probably going No. 1 overall.

DOLPHINS GETTING NO VEGAS LOVE: New Bodog.com odds are out and Dolphins are 30-1 to win the Super Bowl, tied for 17th of 32 teams. It's 16-1 to win the AFC, tied for ninth of 16. The division-rival Patriots and Jets are top-five both ways. Estimation of the Jets clearly is being overinflated by hopeful money from a huge market. But still.

1aanorway GREETINGS FROM NORWAY!: Got a nice e-mail from a journalist in Norway who is a Dolphins fan and runs that country's only website devoted to the NFL. Click on Amerikansk Fotball Pa Norsk to see it. Very professionally done. One possible small drawback for many of my readers: It's in Norwegian!

DEAR GREG...:
Your blog is OK but would be better if occasionally you would show a photo of a woman about to s--- in a field as a lion approaches her menacingly. And if the photo had a funny caption. Thank you.

THE MORNING RIBBING

Wow! It's been almost 24hrs and Greg Cote has yet to make his case for getting JaMarcus Russell.

I hope pottygirl's cameraguy has a camera that doubles as a sniper rifle.

maybe it is the lion's camera guy

Shaking the bush boss, shaking the bush..

Dear Greg.... Your blog is ok but would better if you often showed a picture of Anna Kournikova with bedroom eyes spread eagle and holding her labs as wide apart as possible with caption, "Take me now r. duke before I go stark raving mad!"

goddamn it another cliffhanger. I'll be here forever and when I'm finally finished I'll have to wipe my a** for like five hours!!!!!

Where's Al Sharpton now mutherf***er?!

I have to admit I loved movie Malcolm X except for over the top eulogy toward the end and the procession of children standing up proclaiming, "I am Malcolm X." My point is this, anyone out there miss Spike Lee? Me neither.

Fearless Leader,

photo/caption = priceless!!!

fredi gonzalez might not be the best manager in baseball, ut as mentioned many times thew guy has to start juggling pitchers nightly around the sixth inning (i know the marlins have had a couple of complete games this year) which will make any manager look bad when the pitchers are the (non) quality of the marlins staff. remember the good ole days of 2003 when josh beckett, brad penny, the guy who threw in the 70s, dontrelle willis and pavano constituted the staff; when the carl pavano of 2003 is your fifth pitcher you be sittin' pretty. also early in the season, but dontrelle seems to have settled down and pitched well, walking many less batters while drawing the big hitters of the twins a couple of times in the early going. some of us still and will always love the D-train.

I have a friend that works for TSA at MIA. He says that this guy's package is smaller than what his daughter's hamster Boo Boo swings every day while ridding his little wheel in his cage.

Put that picture on my screen saver,...(Not the guy with the small package, but the lady about to shit.........)

boys,

what position is john wall gonna play in the NBA? he is not a point guard, not a great shooter, but possesses athletic skill to get to the basket; only problem is that in the pros the likes of dwight howard and others will be there to "greet" him as he gets close to the rim. i wish him well, but his kentucky teammates- cousins, bledsoe,- are more ready for the NBA than he is.

Fredi should be fired because this team has failed to improve at the fundamentals of baseball. It is disgraceful to see players missing the cutoff man or unable to turn a double play.

John Wall? What the f uck. Who gives a rats ass about this.

Check out Chad Henne's high school football coach giving Chad and the team a pep talk.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fyr5N1KCrDs

As soon as Fredi is fired if Samson and Luria think he is so bad why will the Braves sign him in A N.Y. minute? These idiots really believe these overachieving underpaid Triple A (except Hanley, Josh and Uggla) ballplayers have a chance to reach the postseason.Only goal every year in reality is a .500 record...

You can tell the lion was about to pounce when he hit the invisible barrier known as the crap zone.He smelled that nasty turd and changed his mind...

Hey Cote, why no picture of needle dick on the blog. On the main page they have the fish's mug plastered all over. Besides the fact that he's not a eunuch by a 1/4 of an inch he also bears a "strong" family resemblance to you Cote! What gives, are you related to this fish?

Love Woodcock.......

I saw this last year when I was in Miami. This is actually a fun way to spend the day and interesting to watch. ..plus last year they had some hot cheerleaders.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/05/07/1618326/footvolleys-world-cup-comes-to.html

As far a LT goes, I've always been a believer that thug & criminal athletes should be treated the same as anyone else. Anyone would get fired from their job and live in shame. It takes athletes several offenses to even get kicked off a team. Their jail time is severely reduced compared to regular folks.

There is a world renowned soccer player (Ribery) right now being accused of seeing an underage call girl. He's key to France's continually cheating team (the one that qualified for the World Cup with Thiery Henry twice using his hands to set up the play). Yet, even though it seems like this really did happen, they are holding off arresting & investigating him until after the World Cup.

Incidentally, just like that NY governor, these guys pay thousands for women that shouldn't command nearly that much..and have fake ones too. I don't get that.

Information about Gonorrhea Lectim

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em."

The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008...but now most people, after having been infected for the past 1-2 years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.

It's sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug just coming on the market called Votemout. You take the first dose in 2010 and the second dose in 2012 and simply don't engage in such behavior again; otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we know it.

Keep an eye on the young'ens:

A friends small grandson got lost at the shopping mall.
He approached a uniformed security guard and said "I've lost my grandpa!"
"The guard asked, "What's he like?"
The little tyke hesitated for a moment and then replied,

"Miller Lite and women with big tits."

3 Women in a sauna:

THREE WOMEN, TWO YOUNGER, AND ONE SENIOR CITIZEN, WERE SITTING NAKED IN A SAUNA.

SUDDENLY THERE WAS A BEEPING SOUND. THE YOUNG WOMAN PRESSED HER FOREARM AND THE BEEP STOPPED.

THE OTHERS LOOKED AT HER QUESTIONINGLY. 'THAT WAS MY PAGER,' SHE SAID.
I HAVE A MICROCHIP UNDER THE SKIN OF MY ARM.

A FEW MINUTES LATER, A PHONE RANG. THE SECOND YOUNG WOMAN LIFTED HER PALM TO HER EAR.

WHEN SHE FINISHED, SHE EXPLAINED, 'THAT WAS MY MOBILE PHONE.. I HAVE A MICROCHIP IN MY HAND.'

THE OLDER WOMAN FELT VERY LOW -TECH. NOT TO BE OUT D ONE, SHE DECIDED SHE HAD TO DO SOMETHING JUST AS IMPRESSIVE. SHE STEPPED OUT OF THE SAUNA AND WENT TO THE BATHROOM..

SHE RETURNED WITH A PIECE OF TOILET PAPER HANGING FROM HER REAR END.

THE OTHERS RAISED THEIR EYEBROWS AND STARED AT HER.

THE OLDER WOMAN FINALLY SAID............WELL, WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT.....I'M GETTING A
FAX!!

I'm Considering A New Career

A retired man went into the Job Center in Downtown Denver, and saw a card advertising for a Gynecologist's Assistant. Interested, he went in and asked the clerk for details. The clerk pulled up the file and read; "The job entails getting the ladies ready for the gynecologist. You have to help the women out of their underwear, lay them down and carefully wash their private regions, then apply shaving foam and gently shave off the hair, then rub in soothing oils so they're ready for the gynecologist's examination." "The annual salary is $65,000, and you'll have to go to Billings, Montana." "Good grief; is that where the job is?" "No sir -- that's where the end of the line is right now."

where DaDaDaMarcus Russell? Where is he?

ain't Miami, possibly Buffalo, Tampa, Cleveland. My sources say Fat Rex is going to make a run at DumbMarcus to play exclusively against Fins and Pats. Ever hear of teams politely saying "We trimmed the playbook down a little"? DumbMarcus needs a Barney coloring book with purple, blue and yellow crayons to start!!!

Somewhere Ryan Leaf is embracing the possible opinion that he may not be the biggest NFL BUST.

Ah Jimbo- A five star performance today. Keep them comming.

JaMarcus fat stupid and rich is no way to go through life son...

Fat and rich is a fine way to go through life.

I don't hear Oprah complaining.

And Ryan Leaf is still the biggest bust until JaMarcus either goes on a locker room rampage or starts asking college players to get him pain pills.

BEES the stupidity with that much cash could be problematic.

BEES I'll say this JaMarcus does not appear to be a petulant child like Ryan Leaf who is one of the all-time biggest busts. Couldn't play or get along with people.

BEES* - LOL, funny @$$ response to Dean Wormers post.

NaplesJack, glad u enjoyed :)

I say package Pat White, Tyler Thigpen and a WR not name B Marsh or Davone bess to a team for a 3rd or 4th pick or a starting caliplayer. Then pick up Jemarcus he probaly would excep minimal pay and we would be able to use em in Wildcat.

Column A: a quarterback with horrific passing accuracy and above average speed and athleticism coupled with a sure-handed receiver.

Columb B: a quarterback with horrific passing accuracy and below average speed and athleticism, for a lineman.

The question is, how can the Dolphins afford not to do that?

and duke,

stupidity with that much cash and no job is going to be hilarious, stay tuned.

Finally got a response from Cote - no Heat mention in his blog before the end of the season but at least he acknowledged that he writes more about the Heat players' personal lives than their play.

So I'll end my embargo as "I am Kazaam", and can stop typing "Black Eyed Esteglacias Sisters" which takes me a solid minute to remember every time I write it.

mike1,

ribbery out of the champions' league final on red card; looking good for my team, inter, who i jumped on early in the season. robben and braunshweiger won't be enough to keep the italian club with no italian players from winning the coveted european trophy- five weweks to the mundial!!!

Christ what did that lady eat?! Smells like she ate her own s*** and is now squeezing it out again!!!! I wouldn't touch that sick, twisted bitch with Cunty's big yap!

wackenhut hahaha classic

The only attribute that Pat White has to play qb in the NFL is his last name. The Dolphins should re-nig immediately and replace him with a huge Mau Mau from upper or lower Botswana. Someone who tips in at four spins and has a chicken bone through his nose.

Yes, yes quite a bold and innovative take on the ah Pat White situation Mr. Woodcock. What does four spins convert to in pounds sir?

boys,

NFL network has the away game dolphins at jets with the family guy's two TD returns still to come in the broadcast. on this drive in the second quarter, mr henne is getting sacked doing the ben of pittsburgh holding on to the ball while moving sideways and away from his blocking. room for improvement this season due from #7.

The greatest Dear Greg photo....by far. Suprises just kept coming

Woodcock,
Is that the Botswana region of Dirtroit Michigan?

fellers,

NFL network on a steelerthon; 1975 season the oilers and bengals were 0-4 against pittsburgh, and 21-3 against the rest of the league. as mike wagner, pittsburgh safety stated, it was a shame that the oilers and bengals couldn't win the SB, but they had to defeat the steelers to do so and couldn't. the 1975 steeler defense was as good as the 85 bears to this bengal fan, and in my book the steelers were the greatest of the dynasties- packers, 49ers, cowboys, dolphins, and late 50s and 60s colts. offense could run inside and outside, pass downfield, and defend with the best.

shadow, good point about 75 Stillers. They were all round tough and nearly impossible to beat.

TSA Pecker Gate...
We have one of those "RapidScan" machines at work, had it for about 5 yrs. It is used as an alternate search tool vs pat search and visual search ( strip search is a more common term ). The machine works well, you get used to it after a while and it isn't much of a big deal. You can use it for entertainment, some CO's will pack a banana or something else......

We already have Jamarcus Russell on the Dolphins roster. See Pat White.

Jimbo,

as much as i hated them for pounding my team, i laud the steelers for being the best and for defeating a great, great dallas team twice in the SB. pittsburgh had everything plus!!!

Yup shadow that's the thing. They beat an excellent Dallas team twice. They had it all. Old man Rooney after enduring years of futility got a Steeler team that I agree was best of the dynasties. When the immaculate reception occurred the red sea had just begun to part.

These people are out of their minds ! This guy practicaly walks on water with what he does on a shoe string budget. I mean 87 wins with that jr. varsity squad from last year is like manna from heaven around here. These are the same bums that got a notice from the MLB stating they are cheap bas***ds and to please pay more. Gerardi wins mgr. of the year and they can him, Fredi wins with nothing and theres rumors ! I'm glad personally, I hope they don't win another game, move into a always empty stadium, go broke and sell U of M the stadium for .15 cent's on the dollar ! GO CANES!!!!!!!!!

lAZ......

A SHORT LOVE STORY

A man and a woman who had never met before,
but who were both married to other people,
found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a trans-continental train..
Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room,
They were both very tired and fell asleep quickly, he in the upper berth and she in the lower.
At 1:00 AM, the man leaned down and gently woke the woman saying,........... 'Ma'am,
I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket? I'm awfully cold.'

'I have a better idea,' she replied 'Just for tonight,....... let's pretend that we're married.'
'Wow! That's a great idea!', he exclaimed.

'Good,' she replied. ..............'Get your own damn blanket.'
After a moment of silence, ........he farted.

The End

Jimbo and r. duke,

the greatness of the steelers is something i witnessed as a fan of cincinatti's bengals. mike wagner of the steeler secondary was also quite kind in his praise of the bengal offense and its mastermind, paul brown asistant bill walsh. as he stated, the two step drop and throw that ken anderson used so well for the bengals was taken out west when walsh went to the 49ers and we allknow what happened after that- talk about the red sea parting!! before jerry rice arrived, bill walsh had better pewrsonnel with the bengals than he did with the 49ers. before the horrible injury that essex johnson suffered against the dolphins in the 73 playoffs, essex was a gamebreaker of the first order- averaging 5 yds/carry and over 11 yds/catch. when he went down, my favorite football player and a starin the making, had his carrer ended. check out his stats anbd you will see what a true all-purpose back he was. came back as a shell of the old self- a star that shone very brightly for way too short a time.

fellers,

wife of heat's #3 ordered into custody!! the husband is cheating on the mrs. (and rumor has it she has a back-door man or two her own personal self) in public view, and he will get the kids when this is all done; a rare occurence in the world of family law.

boys,

the world cup a month away- excited, aren't you?

that chick is going to astronaut-style kidnap gabrielle union.

and dwayne wade and martin lawrence are going to have to rescue her.

bad boys 3, coming this summer.

Just say no to JaMarcus. He does NOT have potential. He did NOT fail to show what he can do. He showed it. What you saw in Oakland is what you will see anywhere he goes.

Now, as to those who think we could use him in the Wildcat--the same people, if there were any, who liked the drafting of Pat White (I did not)--please understand that the Wildcat does not use a QB under center. If you use JaMarcus Russell in the Wildcat, who are you taking off the field: Henne or Ronnie Brown?

The success of the Wildcat is that it uses the regular personnel. In the huddle, the defense does not know it is coming, and they must adjust quickly. If they see Russell or White or anyone who isn't normally in there run in for Henne or Brown, then they know it's coming even while they are in their own huddle!

The Dolphins run the Wildcat better than any team in the league, and they do it with a RB taking the snap and a QB split wide. Don't mess up something that is working.

JAMARCUC RUSSELL? are you kidding me?who would take on a totally hapless overrated prospect who has made it to over 300 pounds; jared lorenzen is a better 300lb. QB than this failure that oakland cast off; is anyone really considering bringing him to miami?

if reese's takes over the game, will they insist on it being called "the orange cup" in line with the way their peanut butter/chocolate candy is sold? is there still any real chocolate or peanut butter used in the product? whenthey first came out, they were yummy- haven't had the stuff in years.

guys,
DaMarcus Russell ain't coming to Miami unless he's vacationing. Cote just threw that out there for responses.

You wanna see bad sports writing? Look at Armando Sombrero's write about No Leaders On Dolphins Team... because JT and J Peez&carrots is gone.

Shadow and Duke. I lived in Steeler country when they were a dynasty. Three Rivers stadium was cold, loud and crazy. They usually didn't win pretty, they typically crushed people.

Jimbo,

running te fullback to the outside and throwing downfield to swann and stallworth looked pretty to me (when they weren't playing the bengals). and as far as the super bowls went, it is reasonably safe to say that all four of the bradshaw games were still close in the fourth quarter, even though minnesota was typically woeful on offense the steelers needed a late TD to make it 16-6. but they did physically crush opposing teams.

Hey Laz, best post in three months, buddy. Go Canes.

Why would the University of Miami want to move into a stadium that holds less than 40,000 people?

Because we only draw 30,000, Zhazam! You don't come here for the intelectual stimulation do you Zhazam.

why see the former power house Canes when you got now power house Florida,, or up and coming Central Florida and South Florida? you don't sell tickets unless you got a winner (not used to be). Until the Canes get rid of Shalala & Shannon ,,, they won't be the big dog of their own state.

Hear, hear Jimbo.

Dwayne Wade should be commended for cheating on his wife with another black chick. He's a credit to his race for not doing the typical job of banging another dumb blonde. The judge will undoubtedly take this into account when deciding his divorce case. Kudos to you Wade you are probably the one in a million NBA star who dumps his wife for another black chick instead of a white ho with a tramp stamp or a fat chick with pasty white skin who appeals to the NP's choice for Supreme Court Justice.

The Lion has a good angle on her

Woody - well let's see, they drew twice that, 60,000 for the Oklahoma game, and out of all the B.S. home games they had last year, only Duke, a 12 noon game after the Hurricanes were already out of the ACC championship picture, drew less than 40,000 (38,000).

Jimbo - never seem to see eye-to-eye with you on anything UM related. Why not go watch Florida? Because it's a 12 hour drive and any self respecting UM fan would rather watch bowling than the Gators.

It's hard not to blame Shalala for UM's decline in the 2000's, but you have to keep in mind that the switch to the ACC coincided with Skeletor Coker's abysmal recruiting and somewhat of a resurgence of the bottom dwellers of the ACC. At the time, anyone would have gladly traded Rutgers, Uconn, and Syracuse for Duke, UVA, and UNC.

Regardless, Shalala isn't going anywhere. Her political clout and bull-dykery with the current Secretary of State has given UM access to wonderful guest speakers and a presidential debate, and she raised a BILLION dollars in a two year fundraising campaign. On top of that, the university is making millions more now than when they were carrying the Big East and as an added bonus all UM students are automatically eligible for any study abroad program offered by any ACC university, so not all bad.

And OK, so say Shannon can't coach worth a lick, he's still on of the top five recruiters in the country and is running the program the right way. If he has competent offensive (check) and defensive (question mark) coordinators then his on the field decision shouldn't make that big a difference.

Gators are only top dogs until 9/14/2010 - when the first BCS poll after UM destroys Ohio State comes out and Miami soars into the top 5.

And get the f**k out of here with Central Florida and USF.

Kazaam/BEES*,

"bull-dykery with the current secretary of state"- them words is poetry, my friend.

Kazaam/BEES*,

two questions re the hurricanes:

1. is my favorite rayray armstrong gonna play every down this year at free safety?

2. is my homeboy, fellow fairfax high of los angeles alum patrick hill, gonna get another season after getting hurt early last season? he was an effective blocking fullback from that bullfrog on the lillypad/lorenzo neal-type stance!!

Kazzam/BEES*,

got my answer about patrick hill- coming back as a fifth-year redshirt after getting hurt in the 3rd game against VaTech. good news for the canes and for the guys carrying the ball. ohio state in columbus is not gonna be easy, even with the buckeyes perrennial slow starts.

Ray Ray will definitely start, along with Telemarketer at ss, and Brandon Harris and DeMarcus van Dyke at cb.

But I would imagine that they'll be mixing it up a lot with seniors ryan hill and jared campbell and up and comers jojo nichols, jamal reid, and brandon mcgee. Ray ray will probably be on the field more than any db besides Harris.

Yea, I saw Patrick Hill pay in the spring game so I figured he must be coming back. Good thing, he was pretty key in the running game last year, he stays low until he makes contact so he still blew up defenders on sweeps to the outside.

Ohio State is a ridiculous environment to have to play in. But I think the Canes have the better team, and hopefully some of the superstars from the 2002 season will make some calls and impart on these players how devastating it was to lose what would have been two consecutive undefeated seasons and national championships after being one play away.

Kazaam,

as stated, very happy that patrick hill will get another year.

my first glimpse of rayray was in the 6A championship against NW and he was one of the finest football players i have seen at the high school level. i still think that he has a stronger arm than jacorry harris; #12 is gonna have to settle down and rely on the running game to get his receivers open for his soft throws that have tended to float in years one and two of his career at UM. if he turns the corner as a junior, UM will be in really good shape offensively, featuring team speed unparalleled in the NCAA. let us see if they have bulked up since last season when they looked a little underweight as compared to the opponents.

Kazaam.
We disagree on the UM issue because I am not a Hurricanes fan, nor hater, not biased. My college team is Penn State. Love college football and respect the winning schools and the great match ups every weekend. Florida has TONS of high school talent to recruit and succeed. Aparantly Shannon is a good recruiter but not a good head coach. South Florida and Central Florida have gotten better and are cutting into the Canes talent pool. I don't expect a Canes fan to even like the Gators. But you gotta admit, Urban Meyer is a proven winner.
hahaha,, com'mon Jacory Harris? you expect to win with HIM? very funny.
Every time I see Jacory, I expect to see Sally Struthers standing next to him pleading the TV audience to donate money so he has meal for only 20 Cents a day!!! all kinds of flys on everyone and......

Jimbo,

as stated in the above post, jacorry harris needs to turn the corner from scattered QB to team leader. if his receivers are open enough his passes will eventually get to them; if not, it will be another year of INT after INT and second rate bowl game. #12 does not have the proverbial cannon that phenoms are supposed to possess. john elway he aint, but then many haven't been.

fellers,

cleveland cavaliers have gagged in game 5 and will need all the help the refs can give them to make it to a gamne 7 on sunday. it says here that boston will blow them off the parquet floor in game 6 and ruin the NBA's dream of kobe bryant vs. lebron james in the final. i am not crying one bit over the cavs and shaq's imminent departure.

I'm a huge fan of the Hurricanes but I'm far from biased towards any of my teams - I'll be the first to admit that the Dolphins probably aren't going to make the playoffs next year because of Chad Henne and their defense and that the Heat aren't going to become Pat Riley's "dynasty" by adding Chris Bosh.

I've been a Hurricanes fan since I was a little kid in the late 80s, early 90s and the year I enrolled at UM was the first year of their decline (2004). I've seen them up and I've seen them down and I know the difference. In order to win a national championship in college football, you have to win all your games, period. If you want to be contending for national championships, you have to have the ability to beat EVERY team in the country.

UM has that ability for the next two years because they finally have an offensive line, they have copious NFL caliber talent at the skill positions and at every level of the defense, and yes because of Jacory Harris.

If watching what Jacory Harris will his team to come from behind victories over the past two seasons hasn't convinced you that he's a winner, you're just going to have to figure it out for yourself after back to back BCS bowl games and a trip to the Heisman ceremony with a pink suit and pimp cup.

Yes he's skinny, yes he lacks throwing power. So did Ken Dorsey, and he took UM to back to back national championship games. There's no question that his interceptions are a problem and cost UM the Clemson game, but last season was his first year as a starter and his first and only instinct was to let it fly. If they can convince him to occasionally throw it out of bounds, the sky is the limit for this team.

One more Celtics win at home makes it a toss up between New York's bright lights and Pat Riley's greasy charms for LBJ.

Kazaam
I was on here before the regular season was over saying the Celtics had the talent for a championship. Rondo has been great this series.

My wild guess is LBJ is gonna be a Laker. NY Knicks is a chump organization with the lil gimp Busta Lee as their mascot.

IIIIsh need shome ishy hot.

Hey Zhazam, I'm going to apologise to you for any previous "insensitivities" on my part. If you're a big Canes fan then you're alright.

How does your Lakers theory go Jimbo?

Does Kobe opt out and leave or is he traded?

Or do they trade Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Fisher, Artest, Morrison, Vuyacic, Walton, Farmar, and Shannon Brown?

You can't go over the cap to sign an outside free agent, meaning the Lakers would have to go from their 90 million dollar roster of previously retained free agents to 57 million. Two max contracts = 50 million dollars and you're left with seven million dollars to pay ten players (to field the minimum of 12). Every one of those players I listed above would have to go.

Granted LeBron and Kobe would probably win with ten D-Leaguers, but there's probably about as much chance of LeBron going to Puerto Rico to team up with Antoine Walker as L.A.

The Heat can get around that problem by signing Wade, Max Free Agent X, another quality free agent, and then round out the roster with cheap veterans. Then if any players from this years team are still around (Haslem won't be), they could exceed the cap to retain them.

Kazaam,

#12 not quite ken dorsey. when kenny kelley left for baeball, the hurricanes were left with a weak-armed QB who possessed as acute a football mind as one can find in a college QB; having portis, mcgahee, gore, and the other runners that dorsey utilized and then have shockey, wayne, andre johnson,... to have as passcatchers- the most powerful offensive team in the last three dcades. kenny dorsey was a student of the game, which i understand jacorry harris is also. the difference to this point is that dorsey did not get flustered into making wild throws as he had that group of runners and a good offensive line that got them holes to run through. if you are right about jacorry harris, as stated, the canes will have a really good season, even with some tough road games on the schedule.

Shadow, as you said, I see Jacory Harris differently. I don't think he gets flustered into making throws, I think he's overconfident and thinks he can make any throw on the field, even though common sense and physics would dictate otherwise.

I'll put it this way, it is still to be determined whether this team has as much talent defensively as when Dorsey played. The offensive line, although now bigger and stronger, is not as good and the running backs are not as good.

The receiving core is better.

They may not have one Andre Johnson (or maybe they do), but they have SIX players that are NFL bound - Aldarius Johnson, Leonard Hankerson, Kendal Thompkins, Thearon Collier, LaRon Byrd, and Travis Benjamin.

And I think that Dorsey had a combination of smarts and whatever you want to call whatever got Tim Tebow drafted in the first round - leadership, intangibles, etc.

Jacory would like to be a student of the game, but he's not smart enough. But he has far more leadership and what I would call "clutchness" than Dorsey had, and in some respects that's even more important.

Oh, and good call on the boston rondos Jimbo - I thought they were going to be bumped in the first round for sure.

And I'm glad to hear being a Canes fan counts for something Woody.

Kazaam,

agreed that the hurricanes have some very talented passcatchers-all very fast, but also on the lean side. anxious to see if they have muscled up since last season. clinton portis was an amazing talent while at UM- running, catching, blocking- enough to keep the fantastically talented willis mcgahee on the bench!! willis mcgahee in his banner year was untacklable and fast; had he not been injured against ohio state, A) the canes would have won that game, and B) he could have been the first player drafted. the bills took a major gamble on him and it paid off, same with the 49ers and frank gore- another once in a decade college runner that played for UM, except that both played in the same decade on the same team!! what did frank gore average before his knee damage- 8 yards a carry or something absurd like that? happy that both have had nice NFL careers.

Kazaam,

carson palmer was the first pick that season and the bengals were gonna take him as they needed a QB; after that came charles rogers (detroit and their typical bust of a WR) after which houston took andre johnson. that was a good draft- troy the samoan to pittsburgh amongst others, and will check to see which runners were taken ahead of mcgahee.

Kazaam,

NO RUNNERS TAKEN AHEAD OF THE INJURED MCGAHEE!! chieves took larry johnson ywo spots later, and they were the only two runners taken in the first two rounds-AMAZING!!!

TYPO: should have read "larry johnson two spots" later. i don't think there were many drafts where the first RB was taken at #27, and one with a severely mangled knee to boot.
