[Game post on Saturday's UM loss and other state-college results may be found directly below in blog. Comments specific to game are directed there. Comments on the season as a whole are encouraged here].
Results are in, and the 14th-ranked Miami Hurricanes' 33-24 loss at North Carolina on Saturday, dropping UM's record to 7-3, has seen overall fan satisfaction sink to a sesaon low. It is at only 24.9 percent -- with only 5.9% calling themselves "very" satisfied, according to the latest figures from the Canesfan Satisfaction Meter poll.
The CSM, new to the blog this season, is a continuing gauge of how UM fans are feeling about the team and season. Polls are posted following the conclusion of every Canes game. Season results appear beneath the latest poll.
The criteria for voting is your own, but I suggest fans consider the most recent game's performance, the season as a whole, the program's direction, and your overall degree of optimism -- all in the context of reasonable expectations.
Poll and comments section stay open, but results become official on midnight the day after each game; in this case midnight last night/Sunday.

Very Disappointed in today's game. I was trying to stick it out with Shannon, but I not sure anymore. These 3 losses have been pretty pathetic. Lack of consistency. You'd think the canes would've been fired up, especially as being scored on twice from ints. Simply pathetic. This is going to be tough.

Sean,
as a trojan alum, i have been living high on the hog doe almost a decade. losing four linebackers to the NFL has produced a really inexperienced defense whose "best" player at free safety has no ability to intercept or bat down passes. for the canes, a very good start at 3-1 has really gone south. what happened to the "genius" offensive co-ordinator? guys were wide-open against the seminoles and OU, but now the ball is so far away from them when they are open that the interceptions (one was a jumpball type today) look like they were intended for the guys in blue. methinks that the canes are lucky that USF's QB was hurt or they would in real trouble against the bulls. even with all this, they have been the only team to shut down ga tech, and they are playing with a lot of guys out with injury. anybody notice that the "insignificant" blocking fullback, patrick hill, is really missed? at this point jimmy graham has been the best part of the offense. the team is young and not physically strong;lean and fast is being overpowered by bigger and older.

It's time to realize that this program may never be what it once was. Shannon just never had the experience to run a Division 1 program. My feeling is that this university either doesn't care or maybe truly doesn't have the money to run a Division 1 football program anymore. Eight years of this mediocre football, clueless coaching and being nowhere near a BCS bowl caliber team anymore is an embarrassment to the UM football tradition. I just don't see any end to this uninspired, mistake-ridden play by our football team in the near...or distant...future.

easy on the panic people...UM is good...Harris showed his "first year starter" form today. We have played a number of close games this year, won some...lost some. To be back The U needs to win all the close games...that is when you are Champions!!!
Anyone else remember Ed Reed's forced lateral on the INT he returned for a TD vs. BC??? We lose we are not champs...but we won the close one!
UM is good...better than last year...not there yet. They need to finish the season with wins!

Big problem today was not only the 4 Harris picks, but failure to stop two of them from scoring TDs on the interception return from deep in NC zone; that was pathetic - it UM brings down the NC guy who made a pick with just a few yards gain, I think UM wins.

looking for a new past-time or hobby,.....MIAMI sucks .... til Shannon is fired
Posted by: rick | November 15, 2009 at 03:35 AM
billb said it best. this once storied program was once the talk of the town and made headwaves across the nation. looks like UM president, Shannon have settled for mediocrity. Shannon once again proves that he is NO head coach! he always looks clueless in the 2 minute drill and its carried over to the team. wasting time outs at the most inopportune time has been going on all year. No Discipline whatsover and that starts with the COACH! jacory is a gamer and i like his toughness but is he the answer? maybe, maybe not. the defense which is supposed to be Shannons strengths is pathetic! its evident the president doesnt care about this program or else this would be of been turned around alot faster. look at other schools who have made coaching changes and look at where their teams are now (georgia tech, alabama, north carolina, tcu, boise state, cincinnati, usf ) to name a few. a Real Head Coach can go a long way. if this downward spiral is gonna continue then you should DROP the FOOTBALL PROGRAM, its an EMBARRASMENT to the tradition which was built up from the late 70s and throughout the 80s and early 90s. you can always blame finances or lack of facilities but excuses are part of the problem. Football has become an afterthought at the U and if people dont speak up, this will continue into the foreseeable future. Zero Tolerance Policy. The U takes it to heart: Zero ACC championship appearances, Zero ACC titles, Zero BCS appearances and Zero BCS championships in 8 years! 2010 will be another tease!

The Canes are back baby! Ain't that the truth.
Same Ole Canes...Watching this program is like watching the movie Ground Hog Day...SOS...Sooo predictable.
I didn't watch this fiasco in Chapel Hill because I KNEW the outcome. Butch owns Miami.
Look out for the Dukies!
I think they're the only team in the ACC that hasn't come into our house and laid yet another season ending beatdown on us. Let's hope Jacory can hang with Lewis in a shootout because the defense can't help.
Randy Shannon may be a great charater guy, bleed orange and green but he has no clue as to how to run a D 1 football team. He was a cheap hire by an administration who's priority is on academics, not athletics.
Ho hummm...another predictable Miami Meltdown.
Posted by: Dave | November 15, 2009 at 06:11 AM
U of M priority is education DAVE?? Since when? last month maybe. No, you just got a lousy coach.

They should change their name to the Tropical Depressions.

The team has regressed on both sides of the ball. Sad but true.
On the Dolphins front, Armando wrote an interesting column for today's Herald, "Miami Dolphins in dire need of wide receiver upgrade." Interesting in that it's mindboggling the Herald actually printed that shit. The Dolphins really need an upgrade at WR? At what point did that astounding revelation hit you Armando? NEWS FLASH Armando, the whole freaking world knows the Fish need WRs.
And someone please tell our nitwit of a president that OUR PRESIDENT does not bow to anyone.

Look, we Hurricanes fans and alums should resign to the fact that this is as good as it gets for Miami under Randy Shannon. Every season, at least three losses (watch out - we could lose to BOTH Duke and USF) and a mid-December Bowl Game. If that's what we've fallen to, it's a crying shame.
Hocutt needs to understand this and GET A NEW COACH. He won't fire Shannon because he's afraid to make back recruits mad, but if he wants to win he'll get a real coach like Tuberville!
Posted by: CanesGradStudent | November 15, 2009 at 08:59 AM
Yo Jimbo-
I know this first hand. My nephew played high school baseball at St Thomas...A straight up stud. His father is a UM Law grad...Kid was offered full scholarships from, UF, FSU, USF, LSU, you name it. My bro wanted Tommy to go to Miami. Met with the some staffers...They said they couldn't offer him anything but a partial because of lack of funds...Look at the facilties there...We got a lousy coach because the admin won't pony up the money for athletics.
Before Miami hired Shannon, they had plenty of high profile guys who wanted the gig...Then what, they were considering Bernie Kosar? Com'on...

My days as a Randy supporter are over. Yes, he can recruit, in an area where there is a winderful talent base. Yes, his story is interesting and he is a decent man. We stepped up the assistants this year and received some early results. However, just as in past Shannon led years, early promise end in late season COLLAPSE. I live in VA, and the CAVS are awful this year....I mean AWFUL! So last weeks victory can't be weighed too heavily Let's get a name coach who can put this talent (and the Canes DO have a lot of talent) consistently in the Top 10!
Posted by: Albert Bogert | November 15, 2009 at 09:22 AM
Albert Bogert,
randy shannon may be a decent guy, but how many kids has he fathered out of wedlock? "them guys"? coaching issues aside, he can't speak properly which is not a good reflection on UM.
Posted by: the shadow knows | November 15, 2009 at 09:51 AM
It's time to face the reality that Harris as a quarterback does not have the arm strength and velocity to lead this team to the next level. All you have to do is review the highlights and see he has no zip on the football. His lack of arm strength is apparent everytime he needs to get the ball to a receiver in a hurry. His accuracy isn't bad but review the interceptions that happen because defensive backs have time to react to the football. I congratulate Brian Griese yesterday for pointing this out time and time again when throws were late to open receivers.

UM and education in the same breath is a joke. Maybe for students, but not athletes.

Thanks for the reminder. It's been a while since I've heard that one. Sad, but true.

Miami is really inconsistent to say the least. They could probably beat the #1 when they're on top of their game and lose to #30 when they're not.
On a sad note, the BCS continues to show it's "big" conference bias. UF hangs in by a thread and Texas is unproven, only beating its own conference teams..weakest conference of the elite 6. While TCU has the best balance, but simply won't be considered since they are not in a "big" conference.
