Went to Dolphins camp yesterday and wrote a Chad Henne column, in part because I didn't want to join all the other media lemmings in automatically flocking to Jason Taylor. I have a JT thought or two below, but I find the Henne situation intriguing. Click on Heir to the Air for my column, which -- Gratuitous Plug Alert -- is the most viewed single piece on MiamiHerald.com today. So much of the Dolphins' success beyond this season depends on how Henne turns out. Will he be Dan Marino? John Beck? What do you think? I don't mean your best hopes. I mean what your gut tells you. None of us can realistically know, but looking here for a sense of Dolfans' expectations of and confidence in The Next QB. Take a dip in our poll:
Two thoughts Jason Taylor's return: 1) I find it hard to believe he'll be a "situational player" coming off the bench. I'd bet he starts and that his role is similar to the JT of past Miami years. 2) Taylor was asked point-blank Tuesday about the possibility he might have ended up in New England. He could have deflected the question or said it was all a media contrivance. "We talked," he said instead. "There was talk." I got beat up for a column on that last week, but, bottom line: If Miami hadn't finally shown interest and signed JT, he'd have been wearing Patriots colors in 2009. Bank on it.
(NFL snubs Miami, picks New Orleans to host 2013 Super Bowl. I blame Land Shark beer).

Chad Henne will be next Joe Montana only better...
Posted by: r. duke | May 19, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Boy if that happens the Dolphins would have four more additional championships! A total of six. Just as much as the Steelers have right now.
Posted by: ginrai | May 19, 2009 at 08:25 PM
boys,
it says here that chad henne makes a pro bowl before mark sanchez does. henne was a better college QB than sanchez and is better in the pocket, where sanchez was skittish often and ran early in the play. henne also played in a more "pedestrian" offense at michigan; am looking for henne towards the 9th-11th games to come on the field as a starter. pennington was great last year, but the dolphins are gonna need a stronger arm sooner than later!!! think back to that "miracle play" where fasano had to reach a yard and a half behind him to grab the ball- pennington was onl ten yards away from him!!!!!

I found a video clip of ginrai and some of his friends. ginrai is the one that you see with the great laugh at 1:32 of the clip.
Can you tell which one is Kurt?

How good is Henne going to be? nothing to base an opinion on yet.
JT- Cote can't see him as a situational player- Once again him, most local media and the majority of fans don't realize he isn't what he used to be. JT WILL be a situational pass rusher.
Greg.. where's the cheap girls with the plastic boobs?

ginrai are you sure Flipper has even been here? I can hardly find any of his posts.

ginrai,
what do you say about "the recent temptation of mel gibson"? doesn't it say someplace that carnal relations outside of the sanctity of marriage is a sin? or isn't he worried about such petty issues as hell and damnation while he is keeping busy finding jews in his mail, under his bed,....?

Damn that was some funny sh** there, Tom. When little dude started to relieve himself, I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

did any of you watch the "excitement" of the NBA lottery show? donald stern sent a guy to represent his leaguew who looks like he hasn't eaten or been out in the sun for years!!!! if he were painted black he could pass for being from darfur, may G-d have mercy upon them that are from there.
Posted by: the shadow knows | May 20, 2009 at 02:23 PM
shadow,
The central issue with Mel Gibson is the same issue that places a strangle hold on each and every "fundamental" religion: INTOLERANCE.
The division of humanity (Tower of Babel), as described in the Book of Genesis, to me is not so much a multiple language problem, as it is a division brought forth by differing religions.
As long as any one element of humanity claims that their particular religion is the only correct ONE, the world will remain disjointed. Unyielding members from each particular clan must rise above their own self proclaiming babel.

Landshark's got to go. I meant.

Mel Gibson is what is known in THE INDUSTRY as a WACKADOO! I don't know why ginrai but I'm glad your back and posting. Go figure.

Tom where the hell did you find that? Evil & drunk "Our Gang" footage. Sure looked like they were having a good time though. Funny how nobody appeared to be driving that truck. One of 'em looked like midget version of Larry Fine. Sorry "Little People"
version of Larry Fine...

OC Dolphin,
i believe you have it right when you mention the concept of INTOLERANCE as it applies to religion. as a practicing member of the Faith of Abraham, i would say that our religion's prohibition of trying to convert others to our faith separates us from the other two "monotheistic" religions; we have never had a "join US or die" campaign launched against other human beings as others have done to us throughout history, nor do we tell people that they will be denied an eternal reward if they don't join up.
Posted by: the shadow knows | May 20, 2009 at 05:45 PM
That's precisely my point, shadow. There are plenty of sound, healthy tenets to be found and practiced within all religions. This is where the focus ought to be and taught, particularly to our children. The moment intolerance of another comes into play, that's when all humanity needs to shout out.
Peace to you my brother.
Posted by: OC Dolphin | May 20, 2009 at 05:59 PM
What's this about an eternal reward?! Is it anything like the March Madness Haiku Contest Stanley Cup College Basketball YAWWWWWWNNNNNN Final Four Book? If so I'll "pass." Get it? Basketball, Pass. Ahhh Yawwwwwwwnnnnnn....
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 06:31 PM
Yeah some religious true believers are like Fuller Brush salesman when it comes to savin' souls...
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 06:33 PM
OC but if humanity shouts out isn't that intolerance. Like if God is ALL POWERFUL could he make a rock so big that even He Himself couldn't lift it?

Exactly duke. Not meaning to turn this into Sunday school on a Wednesday, but rather than setting out to convert, belittle or abolish, if instead, we took the opportunity to embrace the good parts within all our differences....geez, listen to all this drivel, I'm starting to sound a bit like Gandhi. OC Gandhi.

Really Taliban make North Korea and Iran look like our best friends.
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 06:51 PM
So duke, did Greg Cote ever send you your winning prize?
Posted by: OC Dolphin | May 20, 2009 at 07:05 PM
Nuking Taliban would not be intolerance so much as saving the rest of Western Civilization.
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 07:06 PM
AND it would be nice if India, Great Britain, and dare I say China and even Russia joined the good fight and helped grind Taliban into the sand with the heels of their boots.
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 07:10 PM
Hmmm I just typed response to your question about Haiku prize but it didn't post. Lets see if it shows up after I post this.
Posted by: raoul duke | May 20, 2009 at 07:16 PM
Very interesting. OC I just wrote in response that I did not receive Haiku Prize but that in providing Cote with my address I called him a drunk albeit an open minded tolerant drunk but a drunk nonetheless. I suggested his alcoholism rivaled Elizabeth Taylor's and Richard Burton's from "Who Is Afraid of Virginia wolf?" and perhaps that's why I never received it. But it wasn't posted and I had to re-sign in. See my name in blue. I'm being scrutinized and censored like I'm a commie pinko.
Posted by: raoul duke | May 20, 2009 at 07:24 PM
For sake of clarification I called him a drunk for picking my Haiku as winner....

as long as there are humans, there will be religion. as long as there is religion, there is intolerance and war in the name of religion.
taliban and a large part of the muslim population is a cancer on the human race.
nba basketball is lame almost all the time. last yrs celts vs lakers was suposed to some magical series like it was in the 80's... celtics took it 4-1 and it wasn't even interesting.
I wish the herald would hire someone like mortenson or beano cook to cover Fins... this Cote, Darlington, Armando is pretty lame indeed. Armando declaring the season isn't worth playing unless WR Boldin and DE Taylor are brought in...... and this guy writes sports for a living???????
Posted by: Jimbo | May 20, 2009 at 07:58 PM
LOL.
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 08:29 PM
Jimbo,
You're a realist, and thus, accurately state the obvious. Evolution however, by its very function, transforms existing realities. Religion, as with everything in play, is not immunized against evolution.
NBA lame!? What!!! Did you not see any of those 7 game, overtime games in the Eastern quarter finals? How about last night's game between your current state reps and the Lakes? Come on Jimbo - ma man - I'll get it if you tell me that you don't like BB, but any more tense, exciting games and this BB fanatic will simply go to cardiac arrest.

duke,
I sign-in every time. I've been "in blue" just after Cote placed this option on the blog, and in response to all that identity theft going about during those wars with the bostonian and others.
If you ever see something on here that remotely looks like my stuff, but does not carry the "in blue," OC Dolphin brand, it's not. I sell "branding" to clients for Pete's sake.
I can always rely on the authenticity of bloggers like: "the shadow knows," "Dave in VA" and a few others, since they too are "in blue." This is why a certain idiot, a eunuch really, for refusing to register its own identity, all the while making outlandish accusations, remains an idiot.
This is not to say that unless r. duke is in blue it's not authentic duke. Not at all. I, as many on here, expect and appreciate your creativity. But then again, you're not a cartoon character who proclaims himself a devout Christian, while at the same time urinating all over the 9th Commandment (bearing false witness). Where I come from that is called being a hypocrite.
Just tossing idiot in for good measure.
Posted by: OC Dolphin | May 20, 2009 at 10:02 PM
OC, alright so the NBA excites U. that's cool if that's your taste. I like playing the game, with my teenager sons and their friends. Can still chug a lug down the court on these 46 yr old wheels, kind of anyway.
Eastern playoffs between Celts and Magic was interesting. Cleveland is just getting warmed up. I do think Billups changed the make up and attitude in Denver to the tune of... lets just say I wouldn't be surprised if they took the trip to the finals instead of Kobe and Lakers.
NFL is still king of hill VS all pro sports.
Like taking in a MLB game or 2 every yr. Rockies have a beautiful stadium. Nice to watch the game while the sun sets over the Rockies.

A devout what?
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 10:18 PM
I'm a devoutly irreverant something or other...
Posted by: r. duke | May 20, 2009 at 10:19 PM
I fully expect Henne to be one of the top tier QBs in the NFL, but am not ready to compare him to any Hall of Famers yet. He's getting one hell of an education under Pennington on smart play, combine that with a gun for an arm and a quality supporting staff and it reeks of success as far as I'm concerned.
Posted by: Dave in VA | May 21, 2009 at 09:02 AM
Right, how can you judge a QB who hasn't really played yet. Henne is in a great situation. Stable franchise that is building it's talent thru the draft. Chad Pennington mentoring Henne is worth a ton. The pieces are there for him to succeed but you never know once he is under center.

guys,
wasn't our man ginrai promoting the cause of orlando in the NBA east finals? if it was a one game championship, he'd be counting his money!!! starting these games at nine o'clock is a better deal fdor those in the pacific time zone; by the time they get to the final two minutes which takes half an hour, it is midnight and i am long gone. the shadow shuts down operations at ten PM, barring the locals playing MNF or TNF or SNF.
