[Click on Exalting and Glowing for the column by me off Sunday's Dolphins win. Click on Dulcet Tones for my audio spiel over a photo slideshow].
Our latest "Dolfan Satisfaction Meter" exploded with a record response this week and ended with a record-high 99.3 percent approval rating for the Dolphins in the wake of the 17-10 home victory over San Diego. It cannot be overestimated what a consensus that is in terms of Internet polling. I could ask, "Would you like gas prices to go down?" and not see a number so high. That's basically unanimity with what I surmise to be a smatter of intentional contrarians tossed in.
The 99.3 approval breaks down as a record 86.8% who called themselves "very satisfied" and 12.5% who are "somewhat satisfied." (Complete poll results below).
New to the blog this season, the DSM is a weekly gauge of how fans are buying into the 'New Beginning' and the club's direction. Immediately after every Dolphin game ends, I invite fans to share their overall degree of satisfaction with the team. The criteria should be your own, but I suggest fans consider the previous game's result and performance, the season as a whole, the direction you think the club is heading, and your current degree of optimism -- all in the context of reasonable expectations.
The Comment section stays open. However, the poll each week is open only through midnight on the Monday following the game. (Meaning it is now closed). We then update the blog post to announce the latest Dolfan Satisfaction Meter result each Tuesday morning.
The newest poll's final results:
[Congratulations. The above set a DSM record for response and easily became our 34th blogpoll to surpass 1,000 votes within the first 24 hours].
Seasonal DSM results:
Week 1: 59.0% satisfaction (6.6 very, 52.4 somewhat), following loss vs. Jets.
Week 2: 5.4% satisfaction (2.1 very, 3.3 somewhat), following loss at Arizona.
Week 3: 98.4% satisfaction (74.8 very, 23.6 somewhat), following win at New England.
Week 4: Bye week; no poll.
Week 5: 99.3% satisfaction (86.8 very, 12.5 somewhat), following win vs. San Diego.

THE DOLPHIN BRAINTRUST ACTUALLY HAS A REAL LIVE FUNCTIONING BRAIN! When is that last time we could say that save Shula across the board? Ah does early 1970's ring a bell?

Oh yes. Congrats BIG BLUE on destroying the Hawks.
Posted by: r. duke | October 05, 2008 at 05:51 PM
We just beat two of the AFC's best teams.
I think we have reason to be satisfied with this organization now. Imagine that....H. Wayne shows up and we tank OVERNIGHT. H. Wayne leaves and we get better OVERNIGHT.
I don't think that's a coincedence.

I haven't had this much fun watching the Phish in years.

voted very satisfied.
Good- team is playing together with enthusiasm. O line is progressing. O skill players QB RB are great last 2 wks. WR ok, TE good. DB's are playing over their talent. Matt Roth has found a home at Strong side OLB.
Bad- no pass rush. no deep threat. missed fg. talent thin at db and wr.
ugly- 2 unamed Pats fans who disappeared lately.
not moving from 6-10 overall.
still tied for division basement.
good showing for a team on the rebuild mode.
there are still gaping needs in talent that will be addressed the next 2-3 yrs.
Bills lost QB, could end up losing 4-5 games in a row. I predicted a fragile Bills Qb situation reflecting the teams sucess this season.
Posted by: Jimbo | October 05, 2008 at 06:29 PM
guys, don't talk playoffs. don't jinx team.
some of u were posting after wk 1 that Long was a bust, Parcells and Sparano gotta go, Ginn will never be, after ONE game.
same guys now on the bandwagon to playoffs,,wohoooo!!!!!!!!!
that is a stretch, BUT it could be a possibility.
To do that this team needs to do just this one thing............ take care of their own business, win, and not start depending on div rivals to be beat by other teams and Us backing into the playoffs.
Dolphins lost some momentum losing that fumble. Managed to force punt after 3 and out, ran, ate up clock, won game. This a Parcells stamp, win with your O line, finish close game in the 4th quarter, not by a talented QB in a 2 minute drilll, but do it the boring way... that is consistant winning football fellas.

Loved what I saw today, but where was Ricky? He's not really contributing.

Great team effort, Great Coaching
Keep it going....

Jimbo
Go down that schedule, there is no way we go 6-10 unless we have some major injuries. We will be favored in half of our remaining 13 games. Here's is the schedule
Oct 12 @ Houston
Oct 19 Baltimore
Oct 26 Buffalo
Nov 2 @ Denver
Nov 9 Seattle
Nov 16 Oakland
Nov 23 New England
Nov 30 @ St. Louis
Dec 7 @ Buffalo
Dec 14 San Francisco
Dec 21 @ Kansas City
Dec 28 @ NY Jets
We'll be favored against Houston, Baltimore, Seattle, Oakland, St Louis, San Francisco, and KC. That's 8 games and we will be no more than a 3 point dog against the two Buffalo games, New England, and the Jets.
Sorry I just can't agree. I made my original 10-6 prediction assuming we would be 2-2 at this point. But I had us winning the first two not the second two. We are much better than I expected. Flip that 6-10 and you will be much closer to reality.

Ronnies touchdown run out of the Wildcat had a block by Ricky that opened the lanes to the endzone or weren't you watching
Posted by: klndry | October 05, 2008 at 08:30 PM
i agree. ricky is contributing; ronnie
s just getting more play because he's making more plays. but as the season progresses, i think williams will get more carries. i'm sure brown's knee is not 100% yet and the team won't want t0 burn him out by mid-november.

Sparano Quote... "All due respect to those two teams. They are both very good football teams." "We are a young team and we are learning how to win." We need to take care of our own business." "All due respect to them."
I Love this guy... By far the best coach we have had in South Florida in a long time.
Posted by: ST Pete Frank | October 05, 2008 at 09:11 PM
very satisfied with win today.i love sprano s coaching style.a victory really means something to him and the team sees how infectious it is too.hats off to bill parcells and all the coaches.of course we do have improved talent and great chemistry.great leadership with chad pennington - what a steal- we only got him thanks to bill but . the team s excited - porter and defense and o line is playing tough.the dolphins are developing a tough personality for a change.again thanks bill.go dolphins.maybe we ve turned the corner.
Posted by: JOE D | October 05, 2008 at 09:29 PM
thank Favre for our success
if he didn't unretire and go to Jets
we wouldn't have Pennington
and would be 0-4
Posted by: genius | October 05, 2008 at 10:34 PM
Even tho Matt Ryan is playing well so far, Jake Long still is the better pick for Miami. A mauling, top LT is going to be very valuable for the next decade.
We already have our franchise QB in Henne anyway. He is going to greatly appreciate this time to learn the system and will produce when the time comes. Pennington is protected pretty good back there, be nice to see him play a full yr.
Posted by: Jimbo | October 05, 2008 at 10:46 PM
I watched the game online...and the cheering from the crowd at the end was amazing...came through my speakers...you could hear the release of all that heartbreak going back to the JJ debacle against the Jacksonville Jags in the playoffs come out...we have not had a true home win that meant so much in a long time...
My buddy was at the game and he said folks who hooting and hollering coming down the ramps long after the game...
Go fins...and it is time for this board to reflect the positive will win nature we are slowly returning to...
We are the fins...the owner of the only true perfect season and home to Shula...

Flipper where are you????????????? Dolphins win 2 in a row and Flipper has no comment? Big Man must be out celebrating
1. dolphins win
2. OJ conviction
3. John McCain's apparent landslide coming
4. Franco Harris is the top NFL fullback of all time.
that my friends is reason all in itself to celebrate.
Posted by: Jimbo | October 05, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Jimbo,
Keep it to football on here, please. Your thought is fine, but someone will take it to another level and then it always get nasty...lets not battle of politics, but rejoice in football
Posted by: JC | October 05, 2008 at 10:55 PM
What is truly encouraging about these last 2 wins are that the Dolphins took it to the opponents, lined up and punched them in the mouth football. No frilly come from behind, throwing 400 yds, just line up and go, run, play action pass, long time consuming drives.
that missed fg almost came back to haunt
Posted by: Jimbo | October 05, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Amen to that, Jimbo. That is why we have not seen a win like this in decades...we kept getting by under the old regimes...this is a return to Miami Football..Mr. Robbie must be smiling
Posted by: JC | October 05, 2008 at 10:58 PM
JC, whatever, ignore what post if you don't like it. Politics or the OJ comment was flat, nothing insulting or insinuating. Quite frankly, OJ is human trash that needs to be left at the dump. People who take their freedom for granted needs to lose it to appreciate it. JC, I will be respectful this one time but if the topic is OJ on here for the day, it will be pretty graphic considering who the regulars are.
Posted by: Jimbo | October 05, 2008 at 11:01 PM
You got me wrong...O.J. I have no isse with...amen to that one 13 years too late...I was just talking about politics because some people do not follow the actual election and just make blind hurtful comments either way...at the end of the day all four of them have families, feelings, and the best interest in their view of our people in their heart.
Posted by: JC | October 05, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Our people meaning Americans

Gentlemen there is nothing "prettier" in football than properly channeled, intelligent brutality. I'll take passionate maulers over Chargers with Fouts, Dolphins with Marino, Colts with Manning and NE with the Prom King and his gimpy foot everytime. Basketball wasn't meant to be played on a football field. This league needs more physical running teams and defenses. Teams with offenses that can eat up the clock while demoralizing defenses. And defenses that pressure and hit these passing freaks and their receivers into retardation.
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 01:44 AM
JC do you think my wanting to have intensely pleasurable intercourse with Sarah Palin was insulting? Because I meant it in the best possible way...
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 01:48 AM
How about that goal line stand. Still no opponents points in the 4th quarter. This team is tough, resilient and in great shape. It's nice too see.
Posted by: Noel | October 06, 2008 at 02:22 AM
Jimbo,
It was a big win and one that we needed in terms of letting the rest of the league know that we're back in saddle again!!
I enjoyed watching this game but Bess really pissed me off- when he was carrying the ball like a loaf of bread and gave the Chargers new life. The momentum would have shifted to the Bolts if they scored on that 4th and 1.
Anyways, I am enjoying this win big time.
I guess your prediction was wrong Jimbo!!
Posted by: Flipper72 | October 06, 2008 at 02:28 AM
Hey let's talk politricks !lol
These games are being won at the line of scrimmage. We have great youth and depth on both sides. Future lookin gooooood ! 9-7 this year !
Posted by: thejuandiggler | October 06, 2008 at 02:32 AM
I'm sure Bess will hear about the fumble in the film room. Hopefully it was just a rookie mistake and won't happen again.
Posted by: Noel | October 06, 2008 at 02:48 AM
Kindry, I agree Ricky enabled Ronnie in that touchdown run. I just wish that d-back would have stayed in the play and absorbed the hit. That would have been a hell of a collision.
But Ricky only averaged 3 yds per carry to Ronnie's 5.2. And he had one catch for zero yards. I just expect more production from him. I guess I'm just waiting for his breakout game, which I'm sure will come. But I expected him to be "the guy" with Brown coming off his injury. That's a testament to Ronnie, huh?
Posted by: Dave in VA | October 06, 2008 at 09:09 AM
Damn, this team is a brett favre miracle pass away from being 3-1 and in a good spot in the AFC!
I like the progress, let's hope it continues!
Posted by: Robert | October 06, 2008 at 09:42 AM
Any rumor in the Miami area about trading for Lions WR Roy Williams before the Oct. 11 deadline?
I would love to see a top notch receiver like him in a Fins uniform.
Posted by: TXFin | October 06, 2008 at 10:25 AM
Couldn't comment while watching, along w/ my dad, that great game yesterday (parents have no internet). Blogging from the Doral library today, but I don't see the bostonian anywhere, Jimbo. Leaving to the mall to buy this year's Dolphins cap and proudly wear it on my flight back. The sun finally shinning!!!!!
Posted by: OC Dolphin | October 06, 2008 at 11:31 AM
r. duke.
don't see you tapping a "breeder" like palin. you would have to pack a telephone pole in your pants just to hit the sides once in awhile. kind of like a cup of coffee.
Posted by: dean | October 06, 2008 at 02:04 PM
lol dean you don't post on here nearly enough. There's some wholesome girl next door look about her face that makes me hot. Maybe I should just let her get me a beer and blow me...

Kurt, bostonian, Jeff'sSportsboyVortex just to show you there are no hard feelings congrats on your Patriots victory against spunky SF team. Cassel looked much improved...
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 02:54 PM
OC that is a truly touching and telling story for when was the last time any of us felt like buying a Dolphins cap let alone wearing it in public. Keep those letters and postcards pouring in folks. GOD it's good to be a Dolphin fan today. "Everyday and in everyway our Dolphin team gets better and better."---Our positive affirmation mantra.
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 03:00 PM
As Robert astutely pointed out, this Miami team is a Favre hope and prayer throw away from 3-1.
If this team wants to make a serious run, someone has to get creative on getting a pass rush. Rivers consistantly had too much time to throw. The front 7 did a nice job at shutting down the run. The goal line stand was terrific.
The DB's played over their heads too.
Pennington goes 3 games without throwing a pick, impressive too.

I am going to call myself Jimbo Slice now.
Posted by: Jimbo | October 06, 2008 at 03:46 PM
Jimbo I have to admit just seeing Tuna, in his private observation box, with his shades on and drinking his latte or straight up "Old Crow" for all I care was reassuring. Like them or not Tuna and Sparano actually look like men, like football guys. Not Boy Scouts or pornstars ala Cam and Wannstache respectively. Hope springs eternal and its been a long, long time since there has been any around here. Like you I will not utter the P-Word. Just watch things unfold and see what happens...
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 04:01 PM
No not P-U-S-S-Y Dave in VA but that's a fine P-Word too...

naplesjack I always wish you well except against Dolphins and now Giants(they've won my heart and soul as it were, as you can well imagine). You will always be addressed by myself separately from NE fans Moe, Larry and Curly.
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Oh yeah Jimbo you're mindbogglingly right--see last years SB and win against NE in NE---in your picks far more often than wrong. A little early to refer to yourself as Slice. Plus maybe unconsiously you wanted to slice it into The Black Forest. Dolphins win hung in the balance afterall.
Posted by: r. duke | October 06, 2008 at 04:28 PM
duke, i am here to entertain my friend.
Honestly would love to have venomous Kurt or Bostonian the lovable Retard come back on here. Been thinking about opening up a new character. So far Franco Harris and Al Coholic were my fav's, little crippled billy was pretty limited, as was spasic colon, the brown eye.
But really, If Pennington stays healthy, playoffs are possible---same as the rest of the league this early in the season.
Pennington gets hurt,, Fins lose more then 3 in a row till Henne can adjust to play full game at full speed.
Look how quick Buffalo went from a top 6 in league to bottom third with one injury. I said that their QB IS the fragile equation in the balance.
Posted by: Jimbo | October 06, 2008 at 06:26 PM
r. d.
last time i checked, palin's head wasn't flat and she had teeth. not the best of combinations for a beer and a blow, but don't know too many guys that turn down blow jobs. as for her toxic hooch????
* trying to decide whether to watch sterile, indoor football played on plastic grass or wwe raw.
** tampa bay looking good. chicago mlb could be ending up 1-6 in playoffs. new york's combined 0-0 not looking so bad compared to second city.
Posted by: dean | October 06, 2008 at 07:19 PM
Well, it took a month to finally say we're doing better than last year.
The fins are starting to play with real confidence and Pennington is playing solid.
Solid running game by R & R (specially Ronnie) and the defense is dominating despite the secondary.
We could go places.
