The Dolphins today traded veteran receiver Chris Chambers to San Diego for a second-round draft pick. I say it's a good trade. Good on the face of it. And good because it signals an admission, at last, that Miami's problems are broad and fundamental and not fixable with a tinker and a tweak. Today is lost. Time to think about tomorrow. You'd find my newly posted column on the trade by clicking here.

Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!!!
Posted by: JayZ | October 16, 2007 at 03:23 PM
Who will take his place? Will the New England score be 56-3 over the Dolphins?
They should start Beck already to see if we need to draft a quaterback at the # 1 or 2 pick.
Posted by: Rick | October 16, 2007 at 03:25 PM
This is the best news I've heard in years. Chambers is a good player but he's not a #1 WR. Ginn will see more playing time and this should open the door for Lorenzo Booker to see some time as well. Getting younger and faster - this is what we should be doing.
Posted by: BSK | October 16, 2007 at 03:32 PM
Start Beck? This guy just got out the scout team and you want to throw him to the wolves? Maybe at the end of the season, but what will he really show us? He plays bad a little bit (as should be expected) and everyone is again ripping the dolphins brass for their decisions. The Dolphins know what they have and will know when those players are ready. Playing Beck now would be a BAD decision. Everyone keeps ripping these guys for their decisions but they are NOT the dolphins of the past, these are new men at the helm. Can we give them at least a little time before we are axing off the heads of Cameron and Mueller?
Posted by: Scott | October 16, 2007 at 03:33 PM
Here's a thought. How come the Miami Herald is getting its news from ESPN.com? Don't you all do your own reporting and only have to cover the local sports teams? How does a national organization beat you to this story?
You're hearing we got a 2nd rounder...seems like a good deal to me. Did you hear about the 2nd rounder from the Sun-Sentinel? They've had it posted on their site for a good 45 mins now
Posted by: Ryan C | October 16, 2007 at 03:33 PM
Good riddance. That guy was never the same ever since Kenoy Kennedy rung his bell back in 2002. He never lived up to the promise and high expectations following his rookie campaign.

Its now time to be very suspicious of Dolphin's management, inclusive of you Coach Cam. You are now a leading canidate for a SABANNY award.
Cam you came here and told us fans that the team wasn't rebuilding just reloading. But in less than a year you have traded two of our better recievers and to make matters worse you and Mueller traded them to either division or conference rivals.
What in the world is going on!! Hey coach I used to be a patient fan giving you time before expecting consistent winning!! You on the other hand have given us consistent bull!! Just EXCUSES EXCUSES and more EXCUSES!!
Coach Cam you were hired to deceive other teams you have become SABAN bud-you are now deceiving us if this report is true!!

I wish him well in San Diego. Chris is a fine person and a great receiver. The question for Dolfans is whether they are dumping salary and collecting draft picks. If so, who's next? Zach and Jason make a lot of money and could help a team with playoff hopes. Would you spend $100 a ticket to see Edmond Miles at MLB or Rob Ninokovich at DE?
Posted by: RHB | October 16, 2007 at 03:39 PM
The way muller drafts we just threw chambers away for a long snapper or something. Good move if we knew what to do with picks.
Posted by: F | October 16, 2007 at 03:43 PM
Jt to Redskins for a 2008 #1 should be next. lets go Randy!
Posted by: Steven | October 16, 2007 at 03:44 PM
With him, the 'fins were staring 0-16 in the face; without him, the 'fins are still staring 0-16 in the face, but have a brand-spankin' new second round draft pick. So see, all is well in the world...not.
Posted by: HairyGaro | October 16, 2007 at 03:45 PM
Great trade!
No trade Jason Taylor to a contender for a first round pick.
Let rebuild the right way! DOLPHAN
Posted by: a | October 16, 2007 at 03:46 PM
The thing that worries me about this is that the Dolphins SUCK at making good draft choices. All their draft picks the past few years have been for mediocre-to-bad players. This is not that bad of a pick considering it's a 2nd round pick and the Chargers will probably finish somewhere in the middle of the pack. Let's just hope Randy and Cam make good use of it and don't waste it on someone who never sees playing time.
By the way, you gotta figure that there is no way Cam let's Green get out there the rest of this season so he doesn't lose a fourth instead of a fifth in the Green trade. Hopefully Cleo can shine the next 5 or 6 games before Beck comes in and we can use him as trade bait for Chicago and Carolina who have AARP QB's.
Posted by: jose | October 16, 2007 at 03:50 PM
Chris Chambers for a second round pick justifies playing John Beck soon. We got to see what the "kid"(27 year old rookie) is made of before next years draft. I also hope to see more of Tedd Ginn Jr in the upcoming game.
Posted by: Cheo | October 16, 2007 at 03:56 PM
Internally the Dolphins have shut down for the season and this officially starts the re-building era...
Posted by: big D | October 16, 2007 at 03:56 PM
finally finally.. get rid of that crap on our team... Get rid of everyone, new blood needed
Posted by: manny | October 16, 2007 at 04:00 PM
good trade if Ginn and "his whole family"
(After all we drafted the family) go out for long passes. Anyway, Who is going to get them the Ball? "Cleopatra Lemon"?
Posted by: juanito saiz | October 16, 2007 at 04:00 PM
Maybe we can get more talent on the NFL's best special team unit. Cam Cameron and Randy Mueller are bums. Lemon to Hagen! Lemon to Ginn! Lemon to Martin! Lemon to another BUM! Do you hear that? Yes that is the sound of this franchise circling the drain. Sell the team Wayne. Get out now!
Posted by: Lenny | October 16, 2007 at 04:05 PM
I like this trade. Im starting to think we need to distinguish between Cam (who must go) and Randy (not sure).
Posted by: Andy D | October 16, 2007 at 04:08 PM
Awesome trade! The Chargers overpaid for a receiver who continues to drop too many routine passes. Great job Randy and Cam!!!
Posted by: sodadolphin | October 16, 2007 at 04:09 PM
Yo jose, how do you figure Cam SUCKS at draft picks, lets see; LT, Gates, Brees, rivers, satelle, and the you have no idea yet how Ginn, booker and Beck will turn out..but I agree with your QB assesment..hope Cleo plays well the next couple of 4 or 5 games so we could trade em..pile up them draft picks boys..
Posted by: heatup | October 16, 2007 at 04:09 PM
I liked the idea that we drafted Ted Ginn's whole family. I hear his mom was a mean nose tackle for the Oklahoma in her hey day!
Posted by: Alex Saiz | October 16, 2007 at 04:10 PM
It's a good smart move. At this stage they need draft picks. Now that being said they need to draft better. This gives Ginn an apportunity to show his talent and see if drafting him in the first round was worth it. Also let Beck start and see what the kid can do. It does not matter if it is the Patriots or Giants let him get his baptism in fire now that way we can see if he really is the QB of the future.
Posted by: octavio de armas | October 16, 2007 at 04:16 PM
Next we need to trade Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. The 'phins are a few years away from winning, and we might as well get something for them now. If we can get a 2nd round pick for Chambers, we should be able to get 1st round picks for Thomas and Taylor.
Posted by: Dolfan | October 16, 2007 at 04:18 PM
heatup,
Cam didnt draft anyone in San Diego, and you have no idea how much he was or wasnt behind any of the picks this year. All I know about Cam is that he is the worst coach in the NFL, we have seen that 1st hand this year.
Posted by: Andy D | October 16, 2007 at 04:22 PM
F**k Cam and Randy! Fire them!
Posted by: me | October 16, 2007 at 04:22 PM
I hope we trade zach and taylor next! No offense, they are great players, but Miami needs to get young and we could get some valuable draft picks! Now if only Miami can trade down in the first round!!!!
Posted by: None of your business | October 16, 2007 at 04:25 PM
Good move. We need to get all the draft picks that we can after years of Wanny and Satan trading them away for average players. Get picks, get young, and rebuild. Very happy with this move. Let's see what Hagan and Ginn can do.
Posted by: Scott | October 16, 2007 at 04:31 PM
Ill tell you what hagan and ginn can do... Hangan is great at dropping passes and Ginn is great at running backwards.
Posted by: me | October 16, 2007 at 04:37 PM
Thank God for that trade... the dolphins coaches were ridiculous to think that Chambers was ever a No. 1 receiver... Poor guy, he got blamed for most of the offense's mishaps, but we should blame the Dolphins for being cheap and not paying a good quality WR... They should dump Marty Booker as well, he's too lazy and doesn't do anything to help the cause... that's why Chicago got rid of him... I just hope we go after a free-agent that is wanted by many teams; not nobodies... Overall, good trade; but then again, that's what I thought about the Wes Welker's trade and look at him now... paying big dividends for the Patriots... Can someone tell me why the Dolphins keep insist on Cleo Lemon; why are we so afraid of starting John Beck to see what he has?? I refuse to attend another Dolphins game until they start someone different.. Lets be honest with eachtoher, Cleo is a good human being, and good backup, but he's not the quarterback we actually need right now...
Posted by: dfins006 | October 16, 2007 at 04:39 PM
I think it is a good move. Chambers is a good WR under the right circumstances, but never did what the Dolphins needed from him. I could see him prospering in SD. I think a larger purge of the roster is in order.
Looking foreward to what the shadow, OC and some of the other "regulars" think.
Posted by: Dolfan abroad | October 16, 2007 at 04:39 PM
good move it gives bill cowher more draft picks in 2008 DOLFANS BRING OUT THE WE WANT COWHER SIGNS FOR OUR REMAINING HOME GAMES STARTING THIS WEEK VS THE PATRIOTS.
Posted by: bryan in ohio | October 16, 2007 at 04:41 PM
This is a great move. The Dolphins got Chris in the 2nd round 7 years ago and they just traded him for what will likely be an equivalent pick. I love Chris, but we got a whole lot more than he is worth. He made 1 pro bowl and that was based on the strength of a 200+ yard game he had against Buffalo. Throw that out and he was sub 1,000 for every year of his career. He dropped too many passes and lacked game breaking speed. On top of that he is on pace to have 0 touchdowns for the season.
Posted by: James | October 16, 2007 at 04:47 PM
Who are these Dolfarts that are bashing Mueller?
They guy had his first 'pure' draft and the team has an o-line starter, a FB, a WR/KR already playing a big part on this team.
Saban strong handed his drafts.
Go back to your can of Old Milwaukee and stop posting.
Posted by: lasarte | October 16, 2007 at 04:57 PM
Well, this is finally, 7 years after the fact, the time that the Dolphin management has stepped up and said 'we're going to rebuild'. It has to happen. Should have happenned long ago. Sad as it is...it took the D getting bad for it to happen.
No John Beck yet...let's wait until we return from London. If he's got the goods then we'll have a 27 y/o QB who will be in his prime for the next 5 - 7 years. Can't complain about that. If not...we have some high draft picks coming our way anyway.
Posted by: David Tucker | October 16, 2007 at 04:58 PM
IF TEAM GOES 1-15 0-16 CAM AND RANDY EVEN AFTER THIS TRADE DOES NOT DESERVE TO COME BACK END OF STORY BRING US COWHER POWER WAYNE THAT'S AN ORDER!
Posted by: bryan in ohio | October 16, 2007 at 05:01 PM
Yup one of the more uplifting bits of news from extremely disappointing season. He was dead wood. Get rid of as much of the drift wood as you can. Don't be afraid to do it particularly during a season in which there isn't anything left to lose.
Posted by: raoul duke | October 16, 2007 at 05:05 PM
This was a great move. Hope the dolphins own up to finally "REBUILDING" this team. Ginn hasnt shown me anything all year but when he ran back that kickoff he didnt even look like he was running so it will be good to give him more playing time. Beck should wait until mid year to get in and give him some more snaps with the first team but we need to see if hes the future or if we need to go and get a QB in next years draft - Colt Brennan from Hawaii or Brohm from Louisville.

Beck's time is next year. Look at the remaining schedule. The Dolphins play 6 spectacular defenses in their final 10 games. He will get killed with this lousy line and rag tag receiving crew. Let's all just grin and bear it through a few more trades and 10 more losses. Then cross our fingers through the draft and free agency and then let Beck start fresh in '08. He will almost certainly improve upon what is sure to be 0-16, at most 2 -14.

First of all, congratulations to Chris Chambers for escaping this festering hellhole of nothingness.
That being said, who cares? We got another second-round draft pick which we'll use to draft someone who nobody else had on their draft boards until the fifth or sixth round, if at all. Heck, we'll probably turn right around and trade this second-round pick to Carolina for Vinny Testaverde.
What crimes have Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor committed to warrant them still having to stay here and be punished?
Posted by: Mark | October 16, 2007 at 05:35 PM
FINALLY! A solid move for the future. Chris is a fine receiver, but as someone so correctly put it, he is NOT a #1 WR.
Collect those pics Cam, lets get on with the rebuilding. Our OL is looking better, Ronnie is running and Jason Allen (a SABAN pick) is about to get a foot in his backside.
We need to see Beck soon. We need to see what we have since Cleo is a free agent next year. 1-15 is how Jimmy started in Dallas, but history says that wasn't a bad thing.
Dolfans, this is a good move for us, if we just use it the right way.
Best of luck Chris, I will never forget that Thanksgiving in Dallas, when you really showed your talent.
Posted by: Gary | October 16, 2007 at 05:39 PM
Sorry to see Chambers go but this is a sign that the white flag is up on this disatrous season. It is about time Ginn Jr really earns that 1st round pick $$$$ & see what he can do. Hagan is hot & cold. Has good WR size but drops too many easy passes along w/M Booker. Bring L Booker in the fold also & add some offensive diversity. What do we have to lose beside more ball games? Please don't set history in reverse @ 0-16.

Bryan your an IDIOT, get a life and another team! we don't need cry baby COWHER. I was so happy when JR cut you off the radio.. How about you join Saban in Alabama

Let the rebuilding begin. Lord knows this team needs it.
Posted by: Noel | October 16, 2007 at 05:56 PM
When we receive the #1 pick, trade down. Use the picks we will receive and rebuild that awful defense. We don't need the #1 qb in the draft. Defense has to be the main priority. Next year will ease the pain. And at least Chambers will be in the palyoffs.
