Pat Riley's statement on today's big events

From Pat Riley:

While I am disappointed by LeBron's decision to leave Miami, no one can fault another person for wanting to return home. The last four years have been an incredible run for South Florida, Heat fans, our organization and for all of the players who were a part of it.  LeBron is a fantastic leader, athlete, teammate and person, and we are all sorry to see him go.”

“Over the last 19 years, since Micky and I teamed together, The Miami Heat has always been a championship organization; we’ve won multiple championships and competed for many others. Micky, Erik and I remain committed to doing whatever it takes to win and compete for championships for many years to come. We’ve proven that we can do it and we’ll do it again.”

Classy comments by a classy organization. I agree that Lebron deserves the right to go home and truly thankful for his time in Miami. Our city and the Heat deserve 'kudos' for how it has reacted, unlike the fans in Cleveland and the ownership of their team's owmer.

The NBA needs more stars to lead the way with family values instead of popping bottles and making it rain. Kudos to Lebron for staying true to his family, hometown, and self. Puerto Rico is only 1 hour away! Watch out NYK. Basketball wife's rule! It's La La world now! Full court press for Plan B!

Just thinking out loud:
What if, after the dust settles, Riley retires--or else Arison ties the can to his tail for his failure to keep Lebron? What if every other player we hope will stay instead signs elsewhere? What if the Heat has to rebuild around Shazam or Sheherizade or whatever his name is, the drafted rookie who Riley probably intended to trade? What if fans who paid a king's ransom for season tickets to see Lebron now demand their money back? What if instead of arriving late and leaving early, thousands of fans don't even show up and demand their money back instead?
Those who thought it preposterous that James would really consider going back to Cleveland are invited to answer first.

Lebron's entourage never could move on from Cleveland. He just may find himself in a more difficult situation than the one he left. But having surrounded himself with folks tied to him with no other purpose...may be more than just another challenge.

Actually am happy for Bosh staying...proving he really does love the city & team. Riley had to overpay but so much for him heading out the first door.

PAT, GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND PUT TOGETHER A WINNING TEAM. THAT IS WHY YOU ARE GETTING OVERPAID 12 MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR. YOU HAVE BEEN LIVING OFF OF YOUR PAST ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR TOO LONG. YOU HAVE DEVELOPED THE WHITE AMERICAN EXECUTIVE DISEASE WHICH IS LAZINESS AND INCOMPETENCE WHILE YOU TALK THE BUREAUCRATIC NONSENSE ALONG WITH THE LEGALESE BS. WHILE CREATING A BUNCH OF USELESS AND MEANINGLESS PIECES OF PAPER AND AT THE SAME TIME HAVING A NUMBER OF USELESS, WORTHLESS, MEANINGLESS AND NON PRODUCTIVE GROUP MEETINGS. CUT THE BS. AND GET RESULTS YOU SLACKER.

King James should now known as Drama Queen James. This was not a basketball decision, so it could have been made sooner. Giving the Heat more striking power with cap room for free agents earlier. Drama Queen James will not win a championship for another two years. Well in his mind Cleveland is worth it but he is going to be frustrated for the next two seasons.

Let's no get crazy in all this James going home stuff for mom and apple pie nobility!

The dude came to Miami to win championships. He did. Now the ONLY reason he's jumping ship (again) is because he believes the team he's going to has more "upside" and is on the brink of making big things happen. So lets be real -- if the CAVS sucked and didn’t have talent James would NOT be so "homesick!" If Miami was loaded with bench talent he wouldn't be so "homesick!" If Dwayne Wade's knees were all better he wouldn't be so "homesick!" The fact that the team he is jumping to is in his home state is a nice cover story. But the truth is -- James got what he could from Miami (2 rings and 4 finals) and bolted for a perceived better opportunity elsewhere.

TJ or whatever your initials are; His name is Shabazz Napier. He won two National Championships at Connecticut, 2011 and 2014. That's two more than you.

Come on Heat fans...it'll be another great ride !

Gotta believe Riley will be super-motivated to put together another tough competitive team. Obviously, by signing back Bosh to the max...he's not willing to go the lottery route.

Lebron was just a different dude...surrounding himself with Clevelanders and always referring to himself as that kid from Akron. It's OK...he gave Miami 4 great years. But now his entourage will try to control the Cavs who most likely will continue coddling James as they did before.

promichael, once we get kevin love our big 3. we will win a championship in year 2. it will be like the heats first year get there and lose then year 2 win it. we wont have the chemistry in year one. he wont be frustrated.

Well, at least real fans will be able to get a ticket to the games. What a ride the last 4 years have been. True Miami HEAT fans and members of our community will go forward til we rise again! Will always be a LeBron James fan! Forever a Miami HEAT fan!

Signing Bosh for that amount make the Heat situation worse. It is a very bad decision from Mr.Riley.Now,Miami does not have Lebron but has the more overpaid player of the NBA.With that money he could do something better. Why a 7 feet player has to play to far from the hook?He is afraid to be hit or he is so fragile? To deserve that amount of money,Mr.Bosh has to be a fighter, play hard and try to be a leader not a follower day by day,not from time to time.I am very sorry with D Wade,"Mr.Heat",you deserve better partners around you. Before Lebron we were champion, with Lebron we were 2 times champions and after him we are going to be champion again,no doubt of it.I am a forever "Heat Fan"

Bosh............overpaid ? Doig it over 5 yrs instead of 4 leaves significant cap space.......and on being tough, the man averages 19.2 points per game over an 11 yr career.

Spo puts bosh away from basket...in toronto bosh had a post up game and drive in game finishing with dunks etc. Lebron didnt like how finals went, wade became a casual player where he became dependent on lebron amd didnt upgrade his game as he used to do and even looked like he gained weight. He was a superstar that lebron respected when he was recruited but as wade faded so did his influence. To be the big culprits are dwade for not being the playet
R lebron came to play with and spo for not beimg a great coach. Riley gets some backlash for unestimating lebron and not forcing spo to get an offensive assistance coach.

how about we not go to the Cleveland vs Miami games. That's the best way to show Lebron without being ugly and obnoxious like how Cleveland did him.

Also, Thank GOD for those great signings of Pat Riley - Granger and McRoberts. I wonder if Kevin Love would come to Miami. And that awesome coach he keeps at the helm that Lebron did not like that strategy of it was reported...he will prove his worth. Thank goodness we have him. A great coach can salvage a team i.e. like Deron Williams missed Utah much more than Utah missed him. Spo will save the day. He will manage minutes in his rotation (for someone to be so set on managing minutes, yet play his stars so much during regular season, that's just calculated genius)and grind it out...We have SPO guys...and he has McRoberts and Granger. Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Allen just wasn't cutting it to not be down 20 pts every game of the finals. We needed to replace Lebron and Allen, and Granger and McRoberts will make it much easier for Spo this time around.

Let's go Heat!

im actually pretty happy about how this team is shaping up. I feel if we can get Deng, or heck Eric Beldsoe the heat can still be the top team in the east. Lebron was and is a great player, but everyone kinda figured out his game, run the fast break, drive right or pass.. We have a number of capable people who can create their own shots so thats always a plus.. may not have that superstar power anymore, but we have Good strong role players, and thats what we need! I cant wait for next season, im excited already!

Bledsoe would be my choice...but that may not be realistic. Deng would provide better frontcourt size with a junkyard dog attitude. It'll be interesting how things shake out with Heat becoming underdog.

2 out of the last 4 seasons, the NBA championship was won by teams that didn't have LeBron on them and it was almost 3 out of the last 4 seasons if not for the Ray Allen and Chris Bosh heroics last year. It is a TEAM sport and Riley has to build a more complete TEAM. San Antonio showed us that in FIVE games!
Would the Heat be better with LeBron in the short term? Undoubtedly.
Can they compete without him? Of course. Confident Riley will retool effectively.
Thanks LeBron, and now let's turn the page into a new era !

This blog has never received the same passion from posters as the UM & Dolphins' blogs. I admit, I don't have the same passion for Basketball as I do football but believe me!
LeBron James will be missed here and I cannot help but believe the South Florida "lukewarm" & "unenthused" so-called fans didn't do nearly enough to show him what a true treat it's been to have him here and how much we really wanted him to stay.

Enough of the "we didn't show him enough love".
He basically owned the town for 4 years.
He's a big boy, has all the money in the world, and doesn't need anyone feeling this way for him.
If his heart is at home in Cleveland then so be it and God Bless him.
Move on.
