Heat Roster Reality (TV)

Fourteen down. One to go. Why not do a reality show? Big 3 Hype

Is there any other way this offseason for the Miami Heat can grow any more outstanding - or outlandish? With 14 guaranteed contracts on the books, one short of the limit NBA teams can carry into the season, wouldn't it be cool in this reality TV-crazed society if the Heat hosted the ultimate show for its final roster spot?

I can't even take credit for the idea. It came from one of the hundreds of emails and questions that have found the email in-box in recent weeks. I laughed it off immediately.

And then, I thought. Hmm. It's not as if the Heat can do anything to further tick off anyone outside of Miami at this point. That limit has been reached. And it's not as if LeBron, Bosh and D-Wade would object to the idea. They'd embrace sitting at the table and scouting the talent in Simon, Randy and Paula fashion.

And there's only one man walking around these days who's trumped The Donald when it comes to Big Boss Man swagger this offseason: Patrick J. Riley.

And it isn't as if the TV cameras haven't been already following Bosh, LeBron and Dwyane around all summer anyway - with speculation of some end-all, be-all documentary ultimately taking shape.

T-MacStack The Heat has done big and bold things all summer, from bringing together the top three free agents on the market, to rolling them out like rock stars in that hyped-up press conference to dismissing its sales department after season tickets were sold out.

So why not end the summer with a bang. Go HBO Hard Knocks style?

Set up a week-long minicamp. Invite Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Jerry Stackhouse, Penny Hardaway, Rubin Patterson, Larry Hughes, Darius Miles, Earl Barron, Mikki Moore, Kwame Brown, some second-round draft picks and whoever else is out there to Miami.

It's not as if South Beach can't make room for one more ex-star-studded reality show?

Let's get these former All-Stars, comeback-minded veterans and well-beyond-their prime ballers in one gym and put them on the court with Pat Beverley, Kenny Hasbrouck, DeSean Butler, Jarvis Varnado and Garret Siler (members of the Heat's summer league team).

The last man standing gets a guaranteed contract.

Hold the workouts at AmericanAirlines Arena and open it up to the public free of charge. Donate Big 3 Stage concession sales to the Summer Groove charities. Donate a portion of the TV rights to Haiti relief.

Is there a better way to decide the 15th and final spot on the Heat's roster? Is there a more fitting way to  end the offseason for Miami and prepare for the circus that training camp is going to be from a media standpoint?

Don't think so.

Considering how this season might play out for the Heat, just ask yourself this: Would you rather be the sixth man with the Sacramento Kings or the 15th man on Miami's roster?

Thought so.

Now get ESPN, HBO, Showtime or BET on the line.

Of course, it will never happen. But how crazy would that be?

Do It Dbag Quitter

Worst blog post you have ever done. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. That will never happen, this is not a circus Wallace, wake up!

I like it MW.We need to have a lil more fun with it though. The winner gets a guaranteed contract and 2 hours later we should cut his butt. Play the rest of the year with 14 strong just because we can. We can actually win with just our top 7 guys. All we need is some bandages and some duct tape.

idiot.

Would have been cool if there would have been more spots open.

That would be a little much...

i think kwame brown, shannon brown, shaq, or t-mac would or should be in the running for that final spot but hey with what's alreadu in place we really can't go wrong.... think if you put shannon on the roster a lineup where a alley-ooping fast pace up tempo running look that would be a good look... and he can or could defend points across the league... but kwame could be used too... a younger guy who can be used at the five spot.... but hey do what you do pat, i'm a firm fan of what you have done so far....

I guess alot of you people dont understand what humor is

why would you keep randolph over varnado or kwame brown... that isn't even a hard pick between the two but hey... and with the last spot you could add shannon brown.. but hey...

Hell Yes MW! We can do it contestant style even further, work down from the 20 man limit all the way to the 15th guaranteed contract before the season starts. We can carry 20 til opening day or so, no?

Week by week until the final cut. we'll see who's talents will be following The King, Flash and The Boshness Monster to South Beach... BRILLIANT!!!

Only the crass get respect. People still talk about Neon Deion but you only hear whispers about soft spoken ALL TIME RUSHING LEADER Emmitt. Do it!! Show we have the biggest pair of "hanging fruits" and dare someone to defy it... 80's and 90's CANES STYLE!!

now this might be just me but why or really what is big z in the convo for... i mean he is 7'3 but doesn't rebound or block shots... and he is old with bad feet.. now that's just me... kwame could fit there... don't let the celtics pick him up... they're a lot smarter than teams give them credit for... need some bigs who bang... big z doesn't bang... and randolph isn't any good.... we need some geeez...

BRING KWAME!!!!!!!

Randolph's contract is not guaranteed.
Eddie House contract is.
Look Kwame Brown should be signed straight up.
He may want money though that is the only concern.

N Thats Probably Why He Hasnt Signed Cause We Dont Have Tha Money!

guess we have FINALLY come to the end of free agency media coverage. MW has run out of things to talk about...

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

sign Shaq and AI! haha

We Need a SG We Are Stacked With Big Men.

Another nonsense post from MW... seems like the idiotic report guy (jackson) from sun sports heat tv, or are they the same person?

I will only watch this if Voshon Lenard attempts a come back.

on the 15th spot we need a back-up sg/sf type player, so for me as i think i go for:

*jerry stackhaus 6'6

>good perimeter defender
>can take vet min.contract
>he shows interest to play to us
>good locker room guy
>he played better last season on BUCKS
> GYM RAT PLAYER
> HUNGRY TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP RING

thoughts???

MW - Invite Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Jerry Stackhouse, Penny Hardaway, Rubin Patterson, Larry Hughes, Darius Miles, Earl Barron, Mikki Moore, Kwame Brown, some second-round draft picks and whoever else is out there to Miami.
---

1st episode: The Lunch. 3 Kings seated at table, table on one endline. 2 x lines of tryouts paired on opposite endline. Food table at midcourt. Whistle blows, each pair sprints to midcourt, fixes lunch, pours beverage, tries to deliver lunch without spilling. 4 x fastest times go on to The Desert.

Prediction: McGrady, AI are DQd for refusing to sprint, attempting to join 3 Kings at royal table.

... and then

Diesel crashes tryout. Lumbers to food table. Stuffs his face with dogs, ribs. wings. Guzzles 2 gallons of Rade. Lumbers to 3 Kings wearing lunch on his shirt drooling Rade from his chin. Kings clear out. With Diesel bellowing I win. I WIN. I. AM. THE. GREATEST.

Kwame a Heat yet?

THE REAL #42 ON MIAMI HEAT JERSEY IS NO OTHER THAN "JERRY STACKHAUS"!!!

HOPE PAT RILEY WOULD SIGN STACKHAUS AS 15TH PLAYER UNDER GUARANTED CONTRACT!!!

GIVE CHANCE FOR STACKHAUS HE IS GOOD TO BE ON OUR TEAM... HE IS MUCH HUNGRY TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP THAN KING JAMES & BOSH...

HE IS RELIABLE BACK-UP TO WADE & LEBRON!!!

HOPE PAT RILEY & MIKEY ARISON WOULD SIGNED STACKHAUS!!! HE COULD REALLY HELP US A LOT!!!

STACKHAUS!!! STACKHAUS!!! STACKHAUS!!!

WE ARE MIAMI HEAT FAN FROM PHILIPPINES!!!

PLS. SUPPORT "STACKHAUS" TO MAKE ON HEAT ROSTER THIS SEASON!!!

thoughts???

Ok. Spell his name right. This isn't Europe. It's Stackhouse. Goodness gracious!!!

BTW, silly entry Michael. If you don't have anything real to blog about, take a break. You wrote a nice article about DWade, but this blog entry brings your grade down to a B- for the day.

Some of you guys need to stop taking yourselves so seriously.

I had fun reading through the blog. That's all it was meant for, entertainment value.

STOCKHOUSE or SHANNON BROWN!!!!!!!!!!! we have known shannon brown last year.. he's a flyer. dwane and bron will like it. plus he we do lots of damage in defense. he is young and fast.. stockhouse on the other hand deserves a chance to win a ring. he s been a good role player in dallas and really have enough gas for this game.. either of the two will do..

STACKHOUSE OR SHANNON BROWN::: EITHER OF THE TWO WILL DO:::THANKS

Some of these people know nothing about basketball lol. Shannon Brown is has million dollar contract offers on the table and you think hes going to come here to play for the minimum lol? Just sign Desean Butler and it will pay off after all-star break when hes healthy. He will be in the rotation come playoff time. The dude was a top 10 pick before the injury and im sure hes hungry to just get back out there and play. I think a reality show during the season would be much better by the way MW.

well, sporty j i have to say that i agree with you on butler, but i would let him get healthy and sit him out the whole season.... stackhouse is a good vet pickup... but i would make room for shannon and kwame brown... look at the lakers and celtics payroll and tell me that if going over the cap a little wouldn't hurt this team one bit...

wow. people take this blog seriously. i thought this blog was a satirical expression that spoke to the realistic concerns about the circus atmosphere surrounding this organization, and the risk that the absurdity of the offseason could bleed into the locker room once training camp starts.

nah, i'm just kidding. it's a silly blog, but there is really nothing left to say about this team until the season starts.

one more thing. are the people who are calling for kwame brown joking? why would we go for kwame when michael oliwakande is still available?

What?.....are you not satisfied with the the Heat have accomplished so far? You sound like one of those Wall Street executives...more money more money! In the end they all fail.

Adding more "All-Stars" to this team would do more harm than good. I wouldn't want to be in a locker room like that. You're not giving credit to the supporting cast - there's plenty of talent in this team to support Bosh, Lebron, and Wade's game. I agree with one of the readers here, this is the worst post I've ever read coming from you Mr. Williams.

The only thing that hold true about your statement is that those players you mentioned are "well-beyond-their prime ballers in one gym", so the Heat don't need more of that.

Tough crowd.

i agree, tough crowd.... where are the regulars on this blog... and kwame would fit here with all this talent he wouldn't be ask to be the star just a role player and a banger type... witch we could use... and shannon brown could also be used... but hey just bring in stackhouse, hell he could still be used.... and i just want front row seats what the hell can't wait til the season starts.. damn...

Wow Yahoo sports bashing Bosh now? lol WTF Amare asked for a trade and was getting 1 rebound in 5 games didn't he? Yea but he doesn't play for Miami so it doesn't matter. I cant stand these bastards

Let em talk and build up our player's rage. It's gonna be a awful thing for whoever we play when the season starts. The experts will have 2 choices. Climb aboard or continue to look stupid by going against the best.

This already happened last year with the Dallas Cowboys. They did a reality show for their last spot on the roster and he got cut in the end.

Haha Id Be Kinda Funny All Those Guyds Duking It Out.

bring in kwame brown and bring back ricky davis

Title the show:

"MAKING THE HEAT: last man standing"

After every practice, the 15 invites try out for 1 spot left on the roster and one player a day goes home. They can show one on one drills, player personalities, side interviews and the dismissal. They can have Keith Askins co-host and in the end be the person who says "I'm sorry________, you just can't feel the Heat."
I would watch it.

Hey might as well bring Super-Star Alston back!

After all the crap Raptors fans talked on this blog, here's what Hedo Turkoglu has to say about that POS franchise...

That Is Awesome! But The League Wont Let Them Do It

http://wap.nba.com/s/2183/nbaNewsDetails?readFullStory=true&itemPos=1&pageNum=1&firstNewsPos=0

Earl the Pearl makes some pretty good points defending the 3 kings. Too bad that all the sport news put just the bad comments in the headlines.

P.S. if my cell don't paste the link...... go to nba.com and post link please.

hey, i say everyone get on your games and everyone get in the gym.... this could be history in the making... this is and will be fun to watch but don't take it to lightly because every other team is getting ready too... so don't just think the title is going to come that easy... but with the players in place i think this team has as good of a chance as any team in the league... hey i say bring in the browns... both shannon and kwame would be good role players off the bench and give us more depth... look at this lineup, brown, wade, bron, bosh, brown... running and up tempo that could defend and bang down low...but hey maybe randolph could work too....

g before he was Earl the Pearl and a champion in the NBA, Earl Monroe was known at John Bartram High in southwest Philadelphia as Thoma Edison For all the moves he invented Before even the legend of Black Magic began to spread from coast to coast, the fans at Philly's Charles Baker League knew him as Black Jesus For all the miracles he performed"The thing is, I don't know what I'm going to do with the ball, and if I don't know, I'm quite sure the guy guarding me doesn't know either," Monroe once famously said once famously said. But for all of the inexplicable and amazing things he could do with a basketball in his hand, there was never one time that he didn't want to have the best players on his team when he stepped onto a court That's the main reason why Monroe is so bewildered by the negative reaction to LeBron James and Chris Bosh deciding to team up with Dwyane Wade in Miami The conversation had been mainly reminiscing about his former Baltimore Bullets teammate, the late Gus Johnson, who will finally be inducted into the Hall of Fame this month. But when James' name came up, Earl the Pearl was off and running again on a fastbreak"When you go the playground and the game is at its most basic level, don't you always try to choose the best guys that are there for your own team? Monroe asked. "Or maybe you get together your own bunch of guys who you think are the best team and then you show up at the playground and take Monroe asked. "Or maybe you get together your own bunch of guys who you think are the best team and then you show up at the playground and take on everybody"Sure, I always liked to put on a show. I liked to do the things that nobody expected or maybe nobody had seen. But the reason I always played was to win and you do that by having more of the best players. What's not smart about that? So the Hall of Famer sees James heading south and figures that's one clever fella"Then again," Monroe said laughing through the phone, "the guy is 25 years old and I know at that age I would rather have been on the sandy beache of Miami than up in the snow of Cleveland or anyplace else. So I guess it doesn't take a genius to figure that out." of Miami than up in the snow of Cleveland or anyplace else. So I guess it doesn't take a genius to figure that out." But at the root of Monroe's puzzlement remains the criticism from the likes of Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson that James gave up some part of his legacy by joining Wade and Bosh"I'm not so inclined to talk about a guy's legacy when he might not even be halfway through his career," Monroe said. "And nobody has more respect for anyone who has played the game than I do for Bill Russell. But when he won those 11 championships, didn't he have some pretty good players with him all those years, guys who were All-Stars, guys who are in the Hall of Fame? The 65-year-old Monroe lives in the New York area now, running his Reverse Spin Entertainment Group, which produces films and music, and is also spokesman for EmblemHealth and Merck & Co. He watches plenty of basketball on TV, but says he changes the channel quickly if the game isn't competitive or he's not watching a great"I don't want to watch a lot of what's out there," Monroe said. "The game is sloppy. There just aren't as many very good or great teams these days That's because of the way the game is structured today. There aren't a lot of veteran teams with guys who really know how to play together. That's how you win championships -- with veterans"That's why I kind of like what those guys are doing in Miami. They're young. They're in the prime of their careers. They're saying we can really build something together. I say let the chips fall where they may. something together. I say let the chips fall where they may." Monroe broke into the NBA in 1967 with a Baltimore Bullets team that included future Hall of Famers Wes Unseld and Johnson. Then in '71, he wa traded to the New York Knicks where he joined a Hall of Fame filled roster of Dave DeBusschere, Willis Reed, Walt Frazier and Jerry Lucas that won the championship in '73. Every one of those Knicks players -- including Monroe -- was also voted as one of the NBA's 50 greatest championship in '73. Every one of those Knicks players -- including Monroe -- was also voted as one of the NBA's 50 greatest. Nobody ever criticized the Knicks for having too many great players on the same team. History has not been any less kind to any of the individuals"You have fewer teams and fewer NBA players then, so you could have more really good players on one team," Monroe said. "But the Knicks won the championship in 1970 and that didn't stop them from trading for me the next year"The Lakers had tried stockpiling talent before that. They brought [Wilt] Chamberlain to L.A. to play with Elgin Baylor and Jerry West and Gail Goodrich. don't remember the whole basketball world getting down on them for doing that. Actually, I think everybody was excited. You wanted to see a great team and what they could do, how much they could accomplish"That's the way I feel about Miami now. You bring Wade, LeBron and Bosh together it could be great. How is that any different from what happened And they got it and everybody praised them. The only difference here is these guys are younger and they might get more than one. Monroe also believes James, Wade and Bosh are different because they have a sense of history about the game"I see those guys and a few others like Kobe and Shaq who understand the whole picture," he said. "With all of the young kids -- 18 and 19-year-olds - that have come into the league, I think the game has lost something. Most of these guys think the game started with Jordan or maybe as far back as Magic and Bird"I think guys like LeBron and Wade understand there was a lot that happened in the '50s, '60's and '70s. They know there were some really great team then. They know those teams had more than one great player. Maybe they're trying to get back to that. Maybe they're just trying to see how good they can be"I know I'll be watching them. I want to see what they can do. I never get tired of seeing great basketball.

^ Wow dude you really have a lot of time in your hands lol

am i the only one who thinks shaq would be a good fit here or what... but he would have to take a lot less money???!!!

Word Is J.Williams Signing A Contract With Magic!!!

Our bigs will be the hardest workers on the team. 1st to Practice...last to leave type of players. Shaq would total change that if he was in this locker room. Let his fat lazy butt go to the celtics and turn them into a power house like he has done to the last 2 teams he's been on. I said earlier that watching Shaq try to get more than the minimum would be priceless and it is.

Shaq reportedly (ESPN) says real close to deal!!!!

Either that or he will retire!!

IF DA'SEAN BUTLER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE ON THE TEAM THIS SEASON..................

HOPING THAT "JERRY STACKHOUSE" COULD BE THE REPLACEMENT TO D.BUTLER AS 15TH PLAYER WITH GUARANTED CONTRACT......

SUPPORT STACKHOUSE TO BE IN A HEAT UNIFORM THIS SEASON!!!!

HE COULD REALLY HELP AS A LOT!!!

rockstar, i really admire your commitment. writing with all caps and adding multiple exclamation points when talking about who should be the heat's 15th man.

really, there is nothing left to say about this team. october 27th! bring on the celtics!

listen, 3 months til opening tip and when you look at the top teams i like what we have. but i would spice it up a bit and bring in both kwame and shannon brown and let these guys battle in preseason to make the team... reason i say this is jawun howard is 37, does he really want to bang with those bigs, because in the east we will need to bang down low... and having another one/two in shannon would give us a better backcourt to face rondo, nelson etc... and lets not think one sided there are some great players playing together around the league so this isn't going to be easy... we have three top flight players on this team but boston, l.a. are stacked.... hey boston has jo and shaq, that's crazy... they're coming off the bench... in a 7 game series they are a team that can cause problems... so keep pittman in the gym and bring in kwame... big z doesn't scare anybody down low... and look to bring in tyson chandler in the offseason... or is ny buying out curry? hey he could still play i don't think he fits d'toni style but hey... and the lakers are better this year than last so don't get the parade ready yet... this is going to be fun to watch and i really like our chances but wow....

hey delonte west just got waived, pick him up... we could use him off the bench...

New look Miami Heat means new look Micheal Wallace. Not try to be gay or anything but i think the other picture of you look much better. This 1 makes you look old... No disrespect!

Please do not because Michael Jordan says he never would have made Larry and magic call to make a super computer if you ever had everything was Jordan?? Pippen and Rodman and where you leave your'd won championships without Them? I do not think Pippen never mentioned Jordan without Pippen was not Nobody

^ WTF are you saying?

really sporty? i like the new mike wallace picture. very profess

Sporty J, you are gay!

and when is the season gonna start already..c'mon damnit. sign iverson & shaq and bring back Beasley. Fire Spo, bench Chalmers and get some better damn food at AAA.

we have hit the quiet before the storm...GO HEAT!

sign kwame brown and michael oliwakandi

I actually think a behind the scenes documentary would work well.

Riley call me man.

if we don't pick these guys up and give them a shot to make the teasm thru training camp the lakers will... look they're 30 mil over the cap and looking to bring in more tell me how that is...

hey what do yall think about tracy mcgrady??/ i think you bring him in to come off the bench and let it run.... all we would need from him is 15 to 20 minutes a night... and he could do that at this point in his career.... or delonte west... and shannon brown...

9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB, we know thats you BIN LADEN behind that computer screen or you must be some kind of relative. Stick to talking about terrorist attacks and etc because basketball you DONT KNOW... KID!!!

"JERRY STACKHOUSE" for 15 th spot...

HE WOULD REALLY MAKE OUR BENCH MUCH BETTER!!!
HE COULD PLAY BACK-UP TO WADE @ SG & LEBRON @ SF!!!
HE IS A GOOD PERIMETER DEFENDER!!!
HE IS GOOD LOCKER ROOM GUY!!!
HE IS HUNGRY TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
HE IS WILLING TO TAKE MIN VET CONTRACT!!!
HE EXPRESSES MUCH INTEREST TO PLAY ON OUR TEAM!!!

TO PAT RILEY: GIVE HIM THE 15 TH SPOT THEN WE ARE READY ROCK THE SEASON!!!

what werevyall thinkin when yall decided to try to pick up dampier...

them my niggaz for real..
