Dorell Wright and Jamaal Magloire updates (updated)

Forward Dorell Wright agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Heat, his agent said Wednesday. Free agent center Jamaal Magloire's visit with the Heat is scheduled for Thursday. Wright and Magloire are represented by Bob Myers.

Magloire was supposed to be in town Wednesday but Tropical Storm Fay postponed his trip a day. Magloire, 6-11, would be a defensive upgrade over Mark Blount. Magloire is an eight-year veteran and has averaged 8.6 points and 7.2 rebounds during his career. Blount averaged 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds last season. The Heat is under the luxury tax for next season and Magloire figures to fit in from a financial perspective. Should the Heat sign Magloire?

Stay tuned.

I hope so. He´s the best Center in the current free agency options, can block and take rebounds better than Blount. All-star experience.

Playoff team!!

I say no to Magloire. He was a good player once upon a time but he hasn't been able to latch onto a team for a full season recently (he got released by NJ last year).
Also he supposedly has major attitude problems which is the last thing the Heat needs now with Spoelstra as a 1st year coach and the team trying to set a good example for Beasley to follow.
I'd be surprised if he got signed as they learned their lesson from Smush Parker last year.

Yes we need his D!!

Do not think Miami should get either one,They both suck,I rather go with Anthony and hope Zo can come back soon

The heat need a defensive center--not Blount
Is Magloire the best they can get--If so --the answer is definitely
They also need a small forward that can shoot--Marion cant

Defensive-minded player over 6-9? Sign him up... I'm not a huge fan, but when considering other options (including signing nobody), he's the best we can do. Wade looks great in the Olympics; however, his tendency to gamble at the 3-point line for steals means we NEED a shot-blocking presence. Give him and Wright 1- or 2-year deals and call it a day.

YES!!! Who else is out there? Really? The Heat NEED a Center, period. Zo won't be back until December at the earliest; maybe even February. Cat can defend and score. He isn't Shaq's replacement or anything like that, but better than what is probably left out there in FA land. BTW, OKC cut Donyell Marshall; I say, let Miami pick him up on the cheap. He can play both Forward Spots, and could help this team with veteranship.

Thanks...

Just to add: Magliore having attitude problems or something like one of the previous posters stated? He really didn't have much chance in NJ, and Dallas couldn't use him much in their rotation last season. He's always been a pro; Portland thought of him when he did his stint there. I live in the NW, btw.

The Miami Heat need to sign this guy, as well as Donyell Marshall. 2 Veterans helping a mixed team like this. With a 1st year coach. Really, Spoelstra has asst. coaching with both SVG and Riley, so all he's doing is implementing his own coaching. And how much of that who knows, b/c we all know Riley runs that team with an Iron hand. Don't think Jamaal will ruin Spoelstra's debut; Riley wouldn't allow that, and Cat knows this is probably winding down for him. So, doubt he'd ruin his NBA chances. Just my .02....out...

keep anthony good defense, especially in blocking

In a word, yes. Blount is hot garbage. Between he and Magloire we'd get the productivity of one starting center.

Magloire is finished. His athleticism has declined to much to be an effective player in this league, currently he's one of the 5 slowest guys in the league. This isn't something he can change, he's just gotten old.

He was a good starter a few years ago but now he's the 13-15th man on your roster who provides nothing .... leaving you to wonder why your team wasted money and a roster spot for his backside to sit on the bench night after night which is exactly what he did in NJ and Dallas, and his coaches were right to do it too.

Miami should take a chance on a young player and hope they get lucky. That and hunt after a trade because the free agency options are awful.

Magloire's a decent enough stop gap for now while we A)Still explore other trade option's and B)Wait for Zo to get healthy. I hope we sign him we need his size more than anything. He plays decent D# and he's a much better rebounder than Blount will ever be and if we can get him for vet's min. do it, a 2 yr deal. I'm cool with D.Wright coming back, but he's really got to show some real signs of growth in his game. It's going to be hard for him to get playing time if he doesn't improve. We're loaded up front(Beasley, Marion, Haslem, J.Jones, Diawara and Wright) Riley's got something up his sleeve brewing all these forwards, don't be suprised if we see another training camp trade like last year. I just hope we don't get another MARK BLOUNT or Ricky "Buckets" Davis. SIGN MAGLOIRE!!!!!

We should do like the Bulls did in the years of Jordan and Pippen and get 3 large bodies and 18 fouls. We've got Blount and Alexander and Magloire would be the third. 1 year deal for Jamaal.

Chalmers will probably be starting from game 1.

I've never seen Magliore but just going by
this blog, if he's that slow and old he's
useless for this team, which will be a
running team. Get a younger more athletic
stiff for an extra body on the bench to
clog middle, give fouls.

You are all undervaluing Blount. He is a
very talented offensive C/F, maybe in the top 5 in the league. He makes this new heat team a force to be reckoned with on offense. His defense and rebounding have sucked because he doesn't try but he will give more effort this year as next
year's contract year approaches. He won't be great at it, but may be at least decent. With his offense and even mediocre
defense/rebounding, he's FAR better overall than any lower-tier big-body.

I still feel the Heat should go get Chris Wilcox from SEA/OKC wether it be through trade with just them or even if they have to include another team or teams to get it done. He'd bring vet experience, energy, rebounding, shot blocking, he can post-up or hit a 12 footer, he's in his prime and wants to win!

The heat should try too get that boy Chris Wilcox. He'll be a good player with the heat. He can run the floor, jump out the gym.

It doesn't really matter what the Heat do, these are all terrible options for a starting center. They're going to be a lottery team next year... hopefully next summer they can do a better job of patching the holes at C and PG.

I just feel bad for Haslem right now. He's one of the few good players on that team, and he was a starter on their championship team a couple years ago... and now he'll be coming off the bench behind a rookie. Seems a little unfair.

Just to be clear, I wasn't including Wilcox in the list of terrible options. He's actually a pretty good player. I just don't think the Heat have any chance of getting him. OKC will do everything they can to keep him with the team.

WOWWW I normally dont comment but this guy Genius is beyond a moron, for 1 if u havent seen big ass Magloire is cuz u never seen a basketball game his highlights are usually clapping from the bench atleast this last 2 yrs and as for Blount been top 5 low scoring in the league... Damn scumbag!! all I gotta say!!

maglore is ok but lorenzen wright might be better more of an athlete more to run with what we have going into next season. but maglore used to be a solid center in the league don't know what happen to him but why not, we can use the help. not for a big price with something to prove. i think its very important to see what we caN GET FOR MARION this is a must. plz don't start this season with him on the team, trade him. blount for the most part can play but we will have to see what happens to really be patient with this team. if we could give up more to a player like melo do it. if we could add harrington do i mean sign j.r. smith denver won't match offer sheet so why not he's a good back up to Wade and better than cook.i still think trading cook.blount to ny is agood move but not my job. just think having jones, smith, wright, beasley, charlmers, barron, quinn,ZO,off the bench.starters: banks,Wade,Melo, harrington, blount
now i think top 4 in the east but thats just me. black the trucker.will keep in touch.

I had stop posting but I just can not help my self. First off, I can not believe we were searching for a defensive center and left Brown and ratliff slip to other teams in the east. I strongly believe that we should stick with the guards we have unless we cqan get Delonte West or Jamaal Tinsley bu trading Banks to clear cap space and maybe sign Quinn as our third option. As for center I think that Blount is good back-up offensively especially with the fast pace team that we plan to have and with Beasley, Marion, and Wade running the floor. between Larenzo Wright, Mbenga and Magloir I think that we need to take Magloir if we have to make a choice, but I would prefer that we try to convinse the Lakers or Clippers to trade Chris Mihmn or one of the Clippers centers because the Clippers have Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby, Paul Davis, Brian Scaner, Deandre Jordan and Nick Fazekas that at 6'11" can play Center as well. These are all quality centers that we can possibly make a trade with and take one as a possible starter. I believe that they are too crowded at that position and we should stay with what we have and see if one don't get released or maybe make a trade for Dorell Wright for one of the others staight up. I understand that we will not get Kaman, camby, or Deandre Jordan, for Dorell, but Paul davis and Brian Scaner are improvement defensively over what we have right now. i also don't believe that at 38 Alonzo Morning after serious Knee issues can perform like he use to. I believe that if he comes back we are going to have the Bret Favre situation of the NFL around Dec or Feb.

sorry about the repeats, typekey's fault.
hey Frank, STFU you lowlife. who the f..
do u think u r? calling me scum for honest opinion re Blount.

Yea watever Genius!
Blount top 5 in scoring on the low post, lol.... wat a Loser!
Who told u that ur momma? well I guess then he is, let me school u real quick, Blount those his damage with mid range jumpers he is the shortest 7 footer I've ever seen, guy cant D, cant block, cant rebound, shoot for all I know he cant Dunk lol (low post huh) SUREE.. n u say peeps are talking smack about this guy>?
im done with u lil kid, peace out scumbag!

There's no question this a battle between Magloire and L. Wright. Seriously, is Mbenga really an option here? An what's with the re-signing of D. Wright???? Yes, he's improved his game over the years and is a decent man off the bench. But when you sign James Jones right off the bat in the start of the FA period, then why in the world would you re-sign another SF!! Not too mention they signed defensive specialist Yakhouba Diawara who seems to be very poorly rated in these blogs. Yeah his offense is probably garbage. But if he can play tight D against some of the superstars in this league, then it's Diawara over Wright. I dont dislike Wright, I just think the HEATs wasting their money by having a million SF's when we shouldve gotten PG's like Arroyo or Dooling. Back to the point...its either Magloire or Lorenzen Wright. I dont know much on either of them so were just going to have to wait to see who has the better workout.

Frank, you are just a Blount hater.
and you call somebody a SCUMBAG who has
a different opinion about a player than you do? you are an EXTREME hater. see a shrink!!!you have personality disorder.

doesn't matter how Blount scores, he scores. medium range jump shots count the same 2 points as dunks when i last looked.
he can also run, he can pass and handle a
bit. he just hasn't defended and rebounded
up to his ability. he has shown in his last contract year he is not incapable of
doing those things, so he's just soft and
lazy and won't until he's motivated. his
motivation will be stronger this year. he
is better than Magliore, Menga, or any of
th others coming in for workouts.

Sign Shaun Livinston.... He has the potential to be magic johnson like.... a point guard with his size and passing ability.... even if he stays semi hurt, he could be like TJ Ford or atleast help Chalmers

Then... Trade Marion to the LA CLips for Chris Kaman and Tim Thomas... This way, Kaman is our center (camby and kaman dont fit together.... baron davis and high tempo team perfect for marion would accept this deal any day.)

C Kaman
PF Haslem
SF Beasley
SG Wade
PG Livingston/Chalmers

Zo
Jones
Cook
Wright
Blount
Diawara
Quinn

Add Tim Thomas onto the list as backup PF

His 2 year deal doesnt interfere with our plan to have space in 2010

And wade couldnt say no to a team with Beasley and Kaman

Max, I like your idea very much but you can't write SL into your backcourt because his injury was so bad could be like Penny..
mostly done as first-line player. if he was
cheap and we had room i'd say worth the risk if we felt solid at pg if he didn't work out (i think Chalmers will be fine
after a couple months nba learning curve)

as far as Kaman that's a good trade for us
only IF Jones/Wright can do the job. and i
don't know if Clips would pull trigger.

good thought, tho

Blount Hater??
Lol... please lil boy, u change ur story from low post top five from mid range threat, come on lil boy, make up ur mind.. Comments like urs Genuis should be Ban from here... ask someone else on here or wherever 2 see if Blount is a starting Center on any team? u said he can pass, he can run, he can score, he can rebound... WOW!!! sign him up for a 10 yr deal!! NOTT!

This post is entertaining to read all the strongly opinionated posts.

Kaman... not likely after last year's star performance. Wilcox... not likely unless OKC is getting a younger player to build around (ie: not Marion). Mbenga... NO. Magloire... to slow, on the decline. Wright... Ditto.

How about Brendan Haywood? Wizards are looking to move him.
