The Heat will get the No. 2 pick in the June 26 draft. A few thousand fans showed up for the Lottery party at AmericanAirlines Arena and the excitement was apparent with the opening of each envelope, because it became more apparent Miami would have a good shot at the top pick.
Now the question is whether Chicago takes hometown kid, point guard Derrick Rose or decides to go big and take power forward Michael Beasley?
What do you think of getting the No. 2 pick--happy, disappointed? Also, do you think the Bulls will take No. 1, because the Heat almost certainly will take whoever Chicago doesn't?

Slightly discouraged over the thought of not landing Derrick Rose. It seems likley that the Bulls will take the hometown kid in Rose. Remember the Bulls wanted Wade in 2003, I guess its payback.

the bulls still lack a coach and fans at chicagosports.com (chicago tribune) currently prefer rose by a margin of 2-to-1.
et tu paxson?

While watching the draft I was just hoping to get one or two. I'm happy but discouraged at the same time. My original thought was that the Bulls wouldn't take Rose because of ben gordon but after looking at their roster I found that they have a lot of fowards and centers. So at this point I'm kinda hoping they choose Beasely and not Rose.

I think Chicago is going to take Beasley.
Interior scoring has always been Chicago's biggest weakness. Beasley will give them that.
This is a GREAT night for South Florida Sports.

it's also quite possible paxson/reinsdorf are finally coming to terms with buyer's remorse, e.g., overpaying hinrich($11m) and nocioni($8.5m).
rose would obviously sell tickets and -- if he ever matched his hype -- better complement deng/gordon if chicago keeps the latter.
but who really wants hinrich at $11m and what could the bulls get in return?
surely the bulls had a plan even if they didn't expect to get 1st pick. so it wouldn't surprise to hear hinrich tagged with trade rumors if chicago really wanted rose. and if they don't get any nibbles for hinrich or preferred beasley all along?
all the better for the rose chorus in heatland.

I agree with the people above in that Chicago will select Beasly making way for the Heat to select Rose. Its kinda funny how the Knicks may have possibly helped us get Rose. If it weren't for them hiring D'Antoni, Chicago would have and therefore probably would have selected Rose over Beasley (since D'Antoni thinks Rose is the next nash or jason kidd with a jump shot). I think with rose miami will definitely be in the playoffs next year. The future looks bright

I have been checking on the Chicago Tribune / Sun-Times Bulls coverage / blogs. They are talking as if taking Rose is a no-brainer for them.
Sarah: even if Beasley may make better Basketball sense for the Bulls, will passing on the hometown guy be too big a risk for them to take fan-wise?

I'm mad. Not to say I wouldn't be even madder if we fell out of the top 2, but I'm mad. There's no way Chicago getting it makes any sense at all. They were the 9th worst team, there should be no way they get the #1 pick. Make it like hockey, take away the lottery, I don't know. But this shouldn't happen.
That being said, I'm excited about getting Rose (maybe) or more likely Beasley. I do wonder how Udonis, Marion, and Beasley will coexist.

I can't believe that anybody would be disappointed that Miami came away with the #2 pick in a draft that has two fantastic prospects at the top.
Whether the Heat comes away with Beasley or Rose, we're getting a major upgrade to the starting lineup.
It's a good night for the Heat!

i was hoping if the Heat didn't get the top pick that memphis would, especially since they have a lot of point guards. This would have allowed us to draft Rose but now that chicago has it, they could go either way.

I really dont see why the Bulls would take Rose at the #1 spot. I mean, yeah he's a terrific PG, but Chicago already has young gun guards in Hinrich and Gordon..so why get rose? Chicago has always been a team that lacks inside presense so Beasley would definitely help them out more than if Rose went there. I really dont understand why they would pick rose but i guess both rose or beasley would make the HEAT better.
