I've been eating bugs since fourth grade, on my bike on the way to and from school. Occasionally eating them through my eyes and nose.

When we lived in Oman we got so fed-up of to trying to pick countless weevils out of every single pack of rice/flour/pasta/whatever, we figured after however-many-minutes it was going to spend in boiling water it would be way easier just to eat the freakin' things. Been A LOT of years and we're all still healthy as horses.

We have all been eating and drinking some bits of bugs and other disgusting stuff for many years. Google FDA action levels for how many insects and other interesting particles such as mouse hair and feces are allowed. The biggest shocker I noticed was hops, which is used for beer making. They allow up to 2,500 aphids per 10 grams of hops. Cheers.

Has it occurred to the scientists and chefs that if we wanted to eat insects, we would eat insects? During my world travels, it seemed to me that the only place folks intentionally ate bugs were the places food was scarce. As soon as food was more available, they stopped. Can anyone think of a good theory as to why this happens?

First, Love your toll booth.
Second, I think people would rather eat steak than cricket meal. If they have a choice, they will go with anything other than the bugs.
