LAST! Don't you just love thread killers;-)? Anyone who posts after this throws a baseball like a girl...

What then ensued was probably the longest war of attrition ever undertaken in the history of the entire Internet, and certainly of Dave's blog - the competition to see who could be the LAST to post on the thread. Over time, and to keep the posting interesting and challenging, the rule was to try and work the word "LAST" into the post somewhere without repeating yourself too much. I recall a competition with Marvin at one point where we had to post something with the highest ratio of the word LAST or words containing the letters LAST in relation to non-LAST words - the LAST ratio. We awarded prizes, but Marvin won that one despite my repeatedly changing the rules on him so I could win. Dave Dilegge recognised what he had done, and claimed kingship of the thread and awarded "Member of the Barry Empire - LAST Poster" or "MBE-LP" to loyal subjects - a badge of honor that many carried forward right to the end. It was an amazing ride.
51 pages of posts and 9 years and two months later, and with the locking of posts on old threads, I can now claim victory with what I thought was just another LAST post:
It has been a hard fought battle and an enormous amount of fun along the way, and a classic reminder of the MOATie days back from around that time which I carry with me fondly. That last page reads a bit like a who's who of the long time MOATies, and even replays some of the history of the MOAT and the Dave Blog itself - a regular trip down memory lane with names like Deon, Leetie, southerngirl, neophyte, Marvin the Paranoid Android, insomniac, Mr Fisher, Diva, and of course myself, wysiwyg. I'll print the entire thing off at some point to enshrine the whole experience for posterity.
In the meantime, Dave and Judi, thank you for hosting the thread for so long, and creating a place where a bunch of whackos could develop long lasting friendships, and everlasting memories.
