Elmore "Dutch" Leonard, the great writer and equally great guy, died today. I was lucky enough to have gotten to know him, and even luckier to have spent a week with him in New York in 1997, when he, Carl Hiaasen and I were promoting a book called Naked Came the Manatee, which was written chain-letter style (originally for the Miami Herald's Tropic magazine) by a bunch of South Florida authors. Here's an interview Dutch, Carl and I did with Charlie Rose. And here's an essay Dutch wrote for the The New York Times. You will never read better advice about writing.
