About 35 years ago, lightning stuck a tree on my father-in-law's farm, much to the surprise of the five cows sheltering under it.
He did as many others have done who realize that the nearest neighbor is a mile away (then).
Nothing.
Nature took care of the problem in a startlingly short time.

It's been my experience that dead animals are easier to manage than live humans. With animals, you're allowed to bulldoze them into a hole and cover them with dirt. With people, the most you can do is transfer them to customer support.
