There's a lot of video out there documenting this sort of incident. The common thread appears to be: huge cars involved. I don't know if that means big old American cars do this more often, if their drivers are more negligent, or if someone just sticks a foot out and trips the runaway Fiats and Smarts.
At any rate, it's a good argument for equipping our police officers and/or tow truck drivers with RPGs.
