Having seen just hundreds of bar scenes in Westerns, I'd like to point out that nobody ever gets drunk unless it advances the plot line.
And when one has RSVP'd a gunfight at dawn, one relaxes by knocking back eight or ten shots of whiskey during the night. With no adverse effects on one's aim.
