Police said the cannabis plants, which were not potent enough to be sold as drugs, were destroyed by the farmer on his tractor while officers watched.
Well, OK, then.

True story: when I was just a lad lo these many years ago, our minister's wife found an unfamiliar plant growing in her garden. It was unusual and attractive, so she cultivated it, and it grew vigorously. It was a couple of feet tall when she showed it off to members of the congregation, one of whom had to explain to her what it was.
She insisted that she had had no idea she was growing pot, but I never believed her. Presbyterians are party animals.

Ummm, nope. This story was tried over here some years ago. Turned out the hemp seeds in bird seed are heat sterilized. But if the German cops haven't caught on to that yet, it just may work.
What the heck. If there's a country in the world whose citizenry could be improved by a cannabis infusion, it's Germany.

I have no specific recollections of some seeds that were planted in the People's Republic of China in 1987. I have memory issues, but my glaucoma is much better.
