Perhaps the guy needed shootin'. There are lot in need of that...especially ones who lie about their dog shooting them. The truth is probably that the hunting buddy of the guy in Utah shot him (the dog's owner, not the dog) and they fabricated the story. This is what matters: It wasn't an accident, it was negligence. A firearm should always be in the minimum state of readiness. So the gun should have been unloaded (or action open or, at the very least, safety on). There is NO WAY a dog could disable the safety AND pull the trigger.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the French hunter was shot by a German shepherd; high alert to be declared.

Another vote for "not accident." Surprised Cheney didn't think of something like this to explain his hunting gone wrong.
