So, do you have to unleash the giant within from open wounds on your feet? I thought it was by growing giant teeth like Tony and opening your mouth REALLY WIDE.

ROASTED!

I'll stick to Baskin Robbins events, thank you. Worst you get is a little frostbite and a brain freeze.
Posted by: padraig | July 21, 2012 at 05:59 PM
Fire burns.
Huh.
Who woulda thunk it?
Posted by: Wolfsong | July 21, 2012 at 06:02 PM
Did they get refunds? Sorry, this guy is a new-age fake. A trick of physics (fire-walking) isn't worth listening to several days of his psycho-babble.
Brings new meaning to "Feel the burn!"

Well, the first 20 got burned, but surely I'll make it OK!
And I think I WILL invest my retirement with that nice guy who called last week.

Taking PirateBoy (and Mythbusters') word that it's a trick of physics, how'd so many people blow it and get burned? Did the motivational speech forget to include instructions on how to do it right?
Posted by: KJP | July 21, 2012 at 07:51 PM
Morons.
Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | July 21, 2012 at 08:18 PM
KJP: The ash, plus the moisture on your skin, does the trick. Perhaps the coals were not sitting long enough?
Posted by: PirateBoy | July 21, 2012 at 09:55 PM
so they were firewalking ... did they think they'd get frostbite? what a bunch of .. dumb ...
Posted by: rickh | July 21, 2012 at 10:07 PM
We continue to work with local fire and emergency personnel to ensure this event is always done in the safest way possible...which is 'not very'.

I see these things as more of an IQ test than motivational. Unless the point is to motivate you to get your head out of your ass.

It's one of the easiest physics tricks in the world to set up. How did he blow it?
Not only did he blow it, but he caused third degree burns. My guess is that either the coals were wet, or he had a heater underneath the coals.

I'm beginning to think the most under used word in the English language is "no". For example: Do you want to walk across burning hot coals? Answer: No.

From the physics professional:
Ahem...The physics term for this activity is stupid.
THANK YOU.

from the non physics professional-THANK YOU MikeyVA for confirming what i thought.

If you say the word "gullible" really slowly, it sounds like "firewalking."
Try it. It works. Trust me.

Too bad rice paper fell out of favor. According to Wikipedia: "Rice paper was a central feature in the opening scenes of the TV show Kung Fu, where the young Kwai Chang Caine rolled out a long length of rice paper and walked on it, trying to leave behind no trace of his passage. "When you can walk along its length and leave no trace, it will be time for you to leave." What a bunch of Grasshoppers.

I've trailed a small roll of toilet paper before but never this.
When one can walk along rice paper and not be hungry to do it again in an hour, one can leave.

Fire walking, because you just can't fix stupid.
Posted by: Marc | July 22, 2012 at 01:54 PM
Too bad "gullible" isn't in the dictionary.

I have to admit I did the firewalking thing once. In my defense I was trying to get to (ahem) know a person of the female persuasion better. It was done with the knowledge of the physics involved rather than for the metaphysical aspect.

Shouldn't that read "nothing you CAN'T overcome?"
