THEY WILL RISE UP

This inexplicably rainbow-colored dog is now available for adoption from the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter...She was found stray and is now in need of a new home.

(Thanks to K. L. Reed, who observes "Perhaps this is why the dog ran away in the first place.")

What a munchkin. We'd have this sweetie in a heartbeat, but we're two days drive away. Each of our dogs and cats have been rescues. RESCUES ROCK!!!

All of my animals are rescues too. My lab, Daisy, was removed from a house that had 17 other dogs and numerous cats. My chihuahua, Ginger, spent the first 8 months of her life in a cardboard box and could barely walk when I got her. I found my cat, Maggie, in a parking lot when she was only 3 weeks old. She had to be fed by hand but is now a very healthy cat that likes to think she's the boss. You cannot go wrong with a rescue. I hope this baby finds a good home.

Isn't Cyndi Lauper a bit old to be put up for adoption?

I suspect some kids have discovered food colorings.
Must have been a nice dog to put up with whatever happened.

My cat had been spayed, declawed on all four paws, and subsequently left to fend for herself at the age of approximately ten or twelve.

Fortunately, she appeared on a friend's doorstep, said, "Meow!", and was invited in. Five years later, she's more than happy to keep me company while readin, vegging out, or attempting to use the computer. But WTF were they thinking to abandon an old, totally clawless cat???

Niiice fuzzy dog.

Betsy ... they were NOT "thinking" ... it wuz an inconvenience, so they abandoned it (her) ...

(I wrote that editorial LONG ago ... won't repeat it here ... irresponsible stoopidheads!)

Betsy, I wondered the same thing about Maggie. My ex-husband has a rescue cat that he picked up off the side of the road. He saw the car in front of him throw it out the car window. It was also just a baby like Maggie. When I say I found Maggie actually she found me. I was walking across the Walmart parking lot when I heard a tiny little meow. I looked down and there was this little ball of black fur looking up at me. I picked her up and took her home. It amazes me because she doesn't like other people and always hides when they come over. I often wonder what made her decide that I was okay.

NC - animals know.

Betsy, the number of cretinous dog and cat owners out there are legion; sadly they are everywhere and capable of the most callous inhumanities against helpless animals.

While still a RCMP officer in Calgary, a hiker discovered a beautiful female golden retriever, chained to a tree, accompanied by her seven 2-week old puppies. This was about a half mile off the beaten track in a forest populated by bears, coyotes, the occasional wolf and other predators such as eagles and badgers.

That discovery enraged the population of Calgary and Alberta generally to the point where I was directed to put the 4 murder investigations I was then dealing with on temporary hold and direct my attention to finding out who was responsible for this act. It took a little less than a month, the person responsible was ultimately deemed mentally incapable, and not charged, but was institutionalized for a time. The mother and four of the puppies survived and went to fantastic homes.

On another occasion I had to face trial for assault causing bodily harm as a result of coming across a suspected sexual deviant who was, when I encountered him, in the process of trying to cut a stray cat in half, alive. I truthfully acknowledged in court that I had beaten him, badly.

The judge was great...in his reasons for judgment acquitting me (a conviction would have been the end of my career), he commented that I showed admirable restraint under the circumstances, because if he had been in my position at the time the complainant would be dead.

Point of my posting is...just like the great people who rescue animals after mistreatment or abandonment, there are also tons of those within the system who do their best to make safer environments for our special friends.

*Hugs Afkat* No jury in the world would have convicted you. I hope the guy went to jail for a long time.

More *hugs* for Afkat, and the judge. And Gracie-the-cat says "Right on!"

P.S. NC...my daughter acquired a kitten while walking through her school parking lot one chilly evening. He launched himself off the top of a dumpster and came to rest clinging to her winter coat and purring. (Seven years and 14 pounds later, he's still purring.)

About 14 years ago Dad and I came home from dinner to find a little orange fluffball meowing on the porch. He's still keeping Dad company.

Extra hugs for Afkat.

Afterthought for NC. Have you ever knit with yarn spun from a dog's fur? Our border collie, Tess (yup, skin and bone bundle of love from local humane soc.) sheds +++ so collect the stuff we brush off her, have it spun, and it knits up like alpaca. Best yarn ever!!!
