Horse Flies, Dave's science lesson of the day. All insects have an important job but are annoying sometimes

I've never thought of a horsefly as being 'glamorous'.

This is in honor of her hit song "Horsefly With No Name"

There are three horses in a pasture down the road from my wife's farm. In the summer, they always stand with the two outer ones facing the same direction and the middle facing the opposite.
It took a while for me to realize that these equine geniuses were strategically placed so that flailing tails protected all three heads from HORSE FLIES.
I can get along with almost any animal.
Mosquitoes and biting flies are the exceptions.

Had heard of them but never seen one until I visited the Midwest. Those big. green and black things don't even taxi for a landing before they take a hunk of meat out of your arm and fly off. Another horrible animal invention is the sweatbee. All of a sudden the inside of my elbow started itching and swelling. Was told not to scratch as it would get worse. Not to scratch? I was ready to tear my arm off - worse than any mosquito bite. Never saw one though.

If I were a fly
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a horse
I swear I'd bite a better horse

"...the fly's spectacular gold colour makes it the "all time diva of flies."
I'll believe it when I see the flies able to shut down entire wings of hospitals when they reproduce.
