Aw, thanks for posting this again, judi. Years ago my cousin and I took our own spring break trip from Boonies, NY to St. Augustine. I have a photo of the two of us, bikini-clad, posing next to a sign that said "No Animals on the Beach." Good times.

Wait, what? Dave bought a PB at 15? Tsk, tsk. I bought my first at 17.5, also at the start of a Greyhound bus ride. I'd spent the summer traveling with my parents; they went back to Japan, and I began my independence with the ride from the West Coast to Wisconsin to start college.

Thanks for the memories.

This is one of my FAVORITES. My son just took a four-hour bus ride and a half-hour cab ride from college to Pittsburgh to see Lynyrd Skynyrd. He then took a cab back to the bus station, slept there, and took another bus back to school in time for class. I am so glad I didn't know about this before he did it.

In 1977, when I was 17 I went to school in Philly, about 120 miles from home (Scranton). I'd come home every weekend on the Greyhound. My uncle was a driver so he knew all the other drivers who let me sneak on for free. Sweet.

My first trip down, I walked out of the Greyhound station on Market Street, guitar in one hand, suitcase in the other, and five bucks in my pocket. As I walked out onto the street a very friendly African-American girl who was leaning on a parking meter asked me, "Hey, Sweetie. Wanna have some fun?"

"My," I thought, "these people in Philly sure are friendlier than those back home."

Everytime I read this article it brings back those fond memories of naivete. Thanks, judi.

Layzeeboy, that was you?

Siouxie tells me that story all the time. She says you were a bad tipper. Not sure how she means that.

Annie, I could only afford the tip. She charged by the inch.

Would love to see those slides of Dave...

Old slide of Dave ?

Summer of '67. I worked about 100 hours per week for $11 per week (you do the math) at a State Park theater, putting on plays. I was an actor (not good), a lighting technician (fair), and a janitor (probably my life's work but I hid it well).
I had my first serious girlfriend. I got so drunk that I spent 15 minutes trying to pull out of a parking space before I realized I had to turn the wheel. (DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. OR ANYWHERE).
I had a collision in a VW that left me with knee problems to this day. I was totally sober for that. Go figure.
It was magic.

Dave found a new slide in Africa.

*drums fingers waiting for a new post while listening to crickets . . .*

*taps pen in time with drumming from the Southwestern area of the blog.*

*whistles music from Bridge Over the River Kwai while hitting Refresh*

Layzeebaby, @ $10/inch, I hardly think $40 is TOO much to ask for.

*ducks*

My mom was crazy enough to let me and 4 girlfriends fly to Acapulco for our spring break when I was around 17. LOTS of fun.

*puts feet up and relaxes to sound of drumming, tapping and whistling (in harmony no less)*

*hums a few bars*

*walks into a few bars*
Ow! Ow! Ow!

*walks into a few bars...*

*walks out & falls flat onto sidewalk*

*walks into trustf8*

*stumbles over Annie*

owwwww
