AND THE BEATLES ARE THOSE GUYS ON GUITAR HERO
From nursecindy:
Steven Tyler is retiring for a while. I was at the store where 2 infants, 17 years old, were discussing this. One of them told the other they had heard that Steven Tyler was retiring. The other asked who he was. The first one said, " He's Liv Tyler's dad! I think he used to have a band or something." I wanted to drag them to the car and make them listen to 'Dude Looks Like A Lady' and 'Walk This Way' until they admitted he was one of the greatest rock and roll singers of all time. I was afraid of going to jail if I did that but if the judge were our age I believe he would have understood and dropped the charges.

On the plus side, on Tuesday Steven Tyler appeared on stage to say that Aerosmith wasn't breaking up. Haven't heard anything since then though, so they might have broken up and reformed a few more times.
Posted by: Steve (The 24 Guy) | November 12, 2009 at 11:06 AM
That's nothing. Somebody was suspicious of that scruffy looking guy wandering around the neighborhood in New Joisey and called the cops. The cops came, stopped the guy and asked him what he was doing. "Just walking around." They asked him who he was. "Bob Dylan." Never heard of him.

Lots of poor parenting going on out there. If we don't introduce our kids to the great music of the 60's and 70's, who do we think will?

oh yeah. my kids like the beatles. and devo, go figure. but you guys are really late getting on the geezer bus. back in '78 or so i had a poster of jimi hendrix' face on the wall at work. one of the youger fellas that worked there, probably seventeen, asked "who is that?" i shot back, "you're kidding, you don't know?" to which he replied "i dunno... david bowie?"
Posted by: mudstuffin | November 12, 2009 at 11:13 AM
I never missed an Aerosmith concert in the 70s and being a New Englander, there were around often. My personal favorite is "Lord of the Thighs."
And let me state for the record -- Joe Perry is HOT! I'd risk breaking a hip for him.

And speaking of Beatles, this is likely why they broke up. If you can make it past 25 seconds, you'll likely go deaf.

The standing arrangement at our house for our Netflix account is that for every new release movie we watch, we get a classic from mom and dad's youth. This week it's "Up" and "The Journey of Natty Gann". It's fun to try to come up with a classic that has a similar theme to whatever is being pushed by Hollywood. Some recent pairings:
17 Again and Big
Marley and Me and Where the Red Fern Grows
Inkheart and The Princess Bride
Now, if you'll excuse me.

A friend and I saw the Stones a few years ago. I guarantee that I was the only one there outside the band who remembered listening to their first 45. But the crowd was really into it. That, and really, REALLY high. Or as one guy said to me at the gate, "Man, is it drunk out tonight!"
Good to see young folk keeping up tradition.

Old and bold and proud to have made it this long with the abuse I have put myself through. Happy to say I was around for the greatest Rock n' Roll! The Beatles were the best. Lynyrd Skynyrd ruled America in the mid 70's. The Stones will never die, they'll only get a new transfusion. Rap is crap. Now I only know how my Dad felt when he heard the Doors for the first time. Still miss Jim, Jimmy and Janis. I tell people youth is curable; you grow out of it. But not me, I'm 13 and holding and I have a lot of CD's I have to buy.

My Hubby takes care of Joe Perrys' dogs.
Aerosmith played at my HIGH SCHOOL back in the early 70's after our school won a battle of the bands competition. We were only 2 towns away from Lynn, MA where the guys started.
Of course, they were new and I was too young to appreciate the brush with greatness.

Like Meanie The Blue (no Beatles reference there, eh?), my daughter was raised correctly. She was raised on The White Album, Sergeant Pepper, Pet Sounds, The Doors, The Clash, The Ramones, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, The Who, The Rolling Stones, U2, Psycho, Cream... and I took her to the blues festive any chance I got. She'll be 22 next week.
Any seats left on the geezer bus?
In the town where i was born,
There lived a man,
Who sailed the seas,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of Submarines,
So we sailed into the sun,
Till' we found a sea of green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,
All together now!
We all live in a yellow submarine,
A yellow submarine,

We all live in a yellow submarine,
A yellow submarine,

True story: I am a Barry Manilow nut, and always throw a birthday party at work for him on his birthday (June 17th) complete with cake and ice cream. (Everyone who has worked with me for a long time knows I'm not right in the head.)
We had a really young engineer who was new, however, and he actually asked me, "who is this 'Barry Manilow'? You're awfully fond of him, did he used to work here?" Everyone (but me of course) busted out laughing! I, however, was not amused.
As for Nurse Cindy, if I was on your jury, you would have been found innocent.

Miss C, HOW have you survived on this blog at all?
How in the name of all that is Darwinian did Liv spring from the loins of Steve Tyler (Is this ALONE not proof that there is a merciful God???)
And on a closing note, though I like many of their songs, I think the Beatles' contribution to great music has to take a number of back seats to Les Paul, Elvis, Ray Charles, the Back Porch Majority, and Johnny Lee Hooker, among others...

No one's an Ultra Geezer if they HAVE heard of Jim Morrison.

No, no, no, Tash, no "best" fights here... and that was my point, the Beatles did acknowledge their influences, so for those who think "the Beatles started great music," well, they need to research more! As for Jim Morrison, I just wish I could have buddied up to him to remind him the crash was coming, and we the audience wanted him to continue. He chose, he lost, and may he rest in the peace he never found in life...
