TRAVEL UPDATE
I'm in Wimbledon, where Mrs. Blog is covering some kind of tennis event. It's a nice little village, and it's definitely the place to go if you get a hankerin' for a heapin' helpin' of rat doots.
Sophie and I took the Tube into London, and en route we encountered an unexplained scary-looking rabbit. Usually I write this kind of thing off as jet lag, but this was a large unexplained rabbit.
The rabbit got off at the Marble Arch station, so if you're in that area, get the hell out.

Download your 'Fins iPhone application
That's a famous movie star rabbit. I hope you got his autograph.

It's the hare to the throne.

Guess you won't be seeing any celebratory fireworks there in England, huh?
Posted by: Siouxie | July 04, 2009 at 02:01 PM
Dave, while you are over there you might take a look around for what is locally known as a "pub". They sell beer.......

I thought maybe the rabbit was part of some sort of weird custom to celebrate Independence Day but I guess they don't celebrate it do they?
Posted by: nursecindy | July 04, 2009 at 02:09 PM
The rabbit was hungry. It was the Taking of Pellet 1 - 2 - 3.

Go ask Alice
I think she'll know...
Well that is just odd. Hmf. Cultural differences I guess. I would seriously be apprehensive of eating at a restaurant called the Ratdoor. Well, y'all have fun over there!

Was it a Welsh rabbit?
(wah-wah-waaaahhh....)
; )
Have a great time and watch out for the spotted dick.

Notice the guy in the foreground is checking out - what else? - the Page Three girls.
Posted by: SW | July 04, 2009 at 02:11 PM
I think it's "Rajdoot." The 3rd and 7th letters do not look the same. Plus, it sounds more Indian.

Bugs Bunny did not age well.

Speaking of British tennis, I hgghly recommend Woody Allen's "Match Point."

That's the new bobbies' uniform, Dave. Mind how you go. They're vicious when cornered. They have sticks as well as carrots.
BTW, when they say, "Gawd Save The Queen," the correct response is "She Ain't No 'uman Bein'." I picked that up from Sir Johnny of Rotten (Borough).
If they just say "The Queen!" and raise their pints, you're in a gay bar, which just means permanent "happy hour," over there. Just ask the bartender if it's a gay bar and say you'd like a short one. It's the custom.
Anyway, Happy Fourth! My consumer reports on "Public Enemies" & the new Star Trek movie, just in time for the DVDs. G'wan stimulate the economy, yawl!

Speaking of English views of the 4th and Americans, here's a typically eloquent, thoughtful, and humorous lecture on the matter by Stephen Fry.

I would be SNORKing at Annie, SW, and insom, if I weren't too busy hiding under the bed. That is one mean-looking rabbit. Related to the Monty Python killer rabbit, no doubt.

Ratdoot reminds me of a Middle Eastern restaurant I encountered in Brooklyn a few years back whose name had me chuckling throughout the meal: Fatoosh.
Yes, they were guilty of foreshadowing.

Meanie shouldn't you be signing your name as Meanie the red, white, and blue today? Just a thought.

Dave...My daughter is planning a trip to Newfoundland (pronounced 'Canada'), and just informed me that one of her stops will be in the town of Dildo.

Betsy, that should have had a "This just in" headline.
*snork*

Doot doot doot, lookin' out my Ratdoot.
Obviously CCR fans.
Posted by: SW | July 04, 2009 at 03:44 PM
The reviews of the Rajdoot are mixed, shall we say.
The Wererabbit looks a bit peckish. All the people monitoring the ubiquitous closed circuit cameras in London must have been sleeping.
Posted by: Horace LaBadie | July 04, 2009 at 03:52 PM
Meanie, that was a nice bit of foreshadowing of your own. ;)
Dave - Alice would tell you to beware of the M. Arch Hare. ;)

"The reviews of the Rajdoot are mixed, shall we say."

::Geezer Alert::
Was the rabbit named Harvey?
Posted by: Ralph | July 04, 2009 at 04:24 PM
Did no one really get who/what the "rabbit" is. Its the character(kind of) in the movie 'Donnie Darko'and you can see the man in front of him/it wearing the T-shirt saying ..Darko. They must be attending some convention (like comicon).
Posted by: djr | July 04, 2009 at 04:27 PM
I'm guessing they're both single, then.
Posted by: Siouxie | July 04, 2009 at 04:29 PM
But maybe they're from Dildo.
Posted by: SW | July 04, 2009 at 04:43 PM
so that's where harvey's got to. and i thought all the whackos were on the nyc subways.

Furries Convention
Posted by: PirateBoy | July 04, 2009 at 05:12 PM
I don't which is less appetizing, the idea of rat doots, which at least might be fresh, or raj doots, which would be left over from the era of the British raj, and be about Dave's age, and of equally dubious origin.
Posted by: Horace LaBadie | July 04, 2009 at 05:17 PM
Furries.

Meanie, I know Fatoosh. Good call.
We were in London once on July 4th. No, they don't celebrate it.
We celebrated today at the big ballyard in The Bronx. It was Mr. Steinbrenner's birthday too.
Yankees 6, Blue Jays 5 - 12 innings.
Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | July 04, 2009 at 08:25 PM
Siouxie...I deliberately omitted mention of the fact that there is also a "South Dildo"...

In case anyone is interested Mr. Manilow just sang on PBS's 'A Capitol Fourth'. He may be back on.
Posted by: nursecindy | July 04, 2009 at 09:14 PM
I don't care for the look of that rabbit either, Dave.
Posted by: Mitch | July 04, 2009 at 09:53 PM
Thanks, nursecindy, but I think I'll
pour bleach in my eyespass.Posted by: Just Ducky | July 04, 2009 at 10:04 PM
But an ensemble from Jersey Boys preceded the BM on "A Capitol Fourth." Hope you all saw that. If not, catch the replay on PBS.

I suppose using the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch on the Tube was out of the question.
Posted by: Clown Puppy | July 05, 2009 at 12:41 AM
Well, you wouldn't expect the rabbit from Donnie Darko to be on a bleedin' plane, now would you?
Posted by: CJrun | July 05, 2009 at 07:25 AM
cindy, my wife -
a lunatica certified fan - watched BM perform. She did call me in for the Muppets and Jersey Boys.Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | July 05, 2009 at 07:50 AM
I'm amazed no one mentioned Aretha's mink cuffs on her
humongousdress on that show. Can't wait to see her live at Radio City Music Hall next month.

DC got Barry Manilow, but us classy folks in Boston got...Neil Diamond. (insert barfing icon here.)

Posted by: oneblankspace | July 05, 2009 at 11:53 PM
The rabbit should have been with a guy, they were promoting "s.Darko", a new film, based on the 2001 hit "Donnie Darko"
