Richard Gere is starring in "The Gerbil".
Posted by: Siouxie | July 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Behave Mel, we'll (not well) be watching.
Posted by: Cheesewiz | July 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Will there be hooning?
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | July 10, 2009 at 11:37 AM
Listen, Siouxie - do I have to say it AGAIN?! I did NOT have relations with that man!!
Posted by: The Gerbil | July 10, 2009 at 11:37 AM
He's great for material. First I was using his "Sugar T!ts" term of affection, now I'll be stating that I will be starring in the beaver.

You can almost taste the Passion for Mel on this blog.

I'm must really be out of it today. I thought this was a remake of the "Leave It To Beaver" show and he was going to play Ward. I need more caffeine.
Posted by: nursecindy | July 10, 2009 at 12:02 PM
So will the movie version have Ward leaving June after he knocks up a 20-something year old piece of...um...eye candy?
'cuz that might get a PG-13 rating.

I've heard that Richard Gere probably has never had his hands near any kind of beaver before, but as far as Mel is concerned, he's just
looney enough to pull it off and be believable too!
Posted by: Brian | July 10, 2009 at 12:21 PM
Is Michael Richards going to be in it? 'Cause that would really be a bonus.
Posted by: Horace LaBadie | July 10, 2009 at 12:29 PM
I just looked up Richard Gere's bio. His middle name is Tiffany.
Posted by: nursecindy | July 10, 2009 at 12:37 PM
cindy, that does splain a lot.
Posted by: Siouxie | July 10, 2009 at 12:47 PM
cindy, I'll bet they try to pass that off as a "family" name.

On a semi-serious note here, Anonymous Content Films did a great series a few years ago under the title of BMW Films. Eight or nine short films, 5-10 minutes each, that all promoted new BMW vehicles (I owned one then) that were all directed by big time people and starred a then somewhat obscure Clive Owen.
Here is a link to most of them I think. "The Chosen" was my favorite, but Madonna is in one of them and its pretty funny too.

"Ward, I think you were a little hard on The Beaver last night..."
Posted by: Allen at Division | July 10, 2009 at 01:21 PM
A beaver puppet movie. Surely someone is playing a really good internet joke on Mel Gibson.
Posted by: Margaritaville | July 10, 2009 at 01:38 PM
Brian, there was also one that starred Gary Oldman as the Devil. That was my favorite.
Posted by: Diva | July 10, 2009 at 01:44 PM
Diva, that one is "Beat the Devil" and you need to click the season 2 link on the left side of the screen. You're right, that one is great. They're all very good. It was really cool that the directors and stars all participated as they did. The music, acting and cinematography are all first rate.

*SMACKS* Allen because it's been awhile since he's been smacked.
Posted by: nursecindy | July 10, 2009 at 01:59 PM
Well, Gary is my favorite actor. He's a complete chameleon.
Posted by: Diva | July 10, 2009 at 02:02 PM
A beaver in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Posted by: Frederic | July 10, 2009 at 02:10 PM
The real chameleon is Johnny Depp.
Posted by: Allen at Division | July 10, 2009 at 02:15 PM
Let's hope Mel doesn't muff it.
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | July 10, 2009 at 02:22 PM
Say what you will, but if anyone in Hollywood knows anything about beaver, it's those two.
Posted by: Lairbo | July 10, 2009 at 02:57 PM
Did somebody say
beaver?
Posted by: pogo | July 10, 2009 at 03:09 PM
Jodi Foster is directing Mel Gibson to stuff his hand in a beaver?
This is definitely gonna be at least R rated.
Posted by: CJrun | July 10, 2009 at 03:13 PM
Yea Brian, BMW released those as web films - I have the DVD from the first series. Oldman was the devil in Vegas, directed by Tony Scott. Damned decent stuff.
Posted by: MartiniShark | July 10, 2009 at 03:20 PM
*snork* @ Lairbo. Tru dat!
Posted by: Siouxie | July 10, 2009 at 03:30 PM
Yeah Sharkie, I've spent the better part of the past two hours watching most of them again in between trying to get some work done. Multi-tasking, right? I also have the complete CD set at home. I got them as some free perc from BWM a few years ago. Now don't tell anyone this, but I just teared up after watching "Powder Keg" again. It's interesting that all those different stars and directors would do this kind of project.
And Diva...you're right, Gary Oldman is great, but ya gotta admit, James Brown can't be beat!
; )
Posted by: Brian | July 10, 2009 at 03:53 PM
I didn't know The Onion had hijacked Variety's website.
Posted by: Guin | July 10, 2009 at 04:25 PM
Nah, Allen - as much as I like Johnny Depp, there is still an element of himself in all his movies. Gary Oldman, on the other hand - from Zorg to the minister in "The Scarlet Letter".... Well. He's the most versatile thing out there. James Brown, Brian? Do you mean the Godfather of Soul James Brown?
Posted by: Diva | July 10, 2009 at 04:54 PM
Diva...
Slipitty-dip, ah do yah man!
Its funny how many times that story has been told of "the young musician selling his soul to the devil for the talent to be a star". Robert Johnson, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, etc. Haven't we all made that deal at some time or another??
; )
Posted by: Brian | July 10, 2009 at 05:55 PM
Someone actually pitched this idea to a producer ? Someone sober, I mean.
Posted by: Clankazoid | July 10, 2009 at 08:02 PM
Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious was always my fave.
