BARCELONA UPDATE

This is the famous (in the sense of "weird") Sagrada Familia cathedral, which has been under construction since the 18th century and is still not finished. As Mrs. Blog said, "It's like the Miami airport!"

Trippy.

Aren't there way more Spanish speaking people in the Miami airport?

Really wild how they can build them sideways.

No wonder the Miami airport is so messed up. Aircraft have to land on a vertical plane.

Reminds me of the Gulf Freeway (I-45 between Houston and Galveston), where construction started the month before I was born. I'm less than 10 years away from being eligible for Social Security.

Yeah butt...does it have a bar???? hmmmmmm??

what are you guys *talking* about? ;)

Whoa! it was sideways and now it snot!

*goes back for coffee*

um..nothing, judi. Good morning, girl!

We'll see if we can squeeze it in on Thursday. If not, then Monday the latest. Will that be OK? Otherwise, I've got a catacomb job starting up soon and my crews will be tied up. And the union is on my back ...... [continue excuses ad infinitum]

Well, what do you expect! Those workers have to be over 200 years old by now!

Isn't that the Waterson Expressway in Louisville? They were working on it when I passed through on my honeymoon in 1973. I am now retired. I don't think it is finished, yet.
p.s., I had some friends once who where "took up fer bein' drunk" in the work zone. The policeman was suspicious because they were the only car obeying the "caution-work zone" signs.

"Your tithe dollars at work."

For a minute there, it looked like the Cathedral of St. John the Inclined.

Gaudi was one of the great visionary architects. Visionary meaning "heavily into hallucinogenic drugs."

Horace, maybe that's where the word "gaudy" comes from.

Spaniards are well known for their afternoon siestas and many many many days off. Oh yeah..and lots and lots of vino.

No surprise that my Father was one. The grape apple didn't fall too far...etc.

That actually reminds me of something, Annie. Back when the Olympics were in Spain Bob Costas did a segment about Gaudin and the architecture in the area. Costas stated that "gaudy" was a derivation of his name - except the etymology of the word predates the architect; but we let Bob feel important.

Guess it was one of them "pre-derivations." Sounds like Costas & crew, though.

You guys are supposed to sit upright when looking at your computer monitor. No wonder you thought it was sideways. It's good to remind them once in a while Judi. MartiniShark always amazes me. Handsome, biker, works hard, and smart. Ladies I think we're close to finding the perfect man.

Horace, a cathedral architect on drugs? You mean he's in an altared state?

nursecindy - keep looking. A few weeks ago he made a typo.

HA! Cindy, you'll see how close to perfect I am when you locate it on a map and then plot the milage.

Warning: Completely unsolicited Barcelona advice:

Dine at "Los Caracoles." The paella is excellent.

*flings 'e' in direction of MS's 'milage.'*

... and there goes that perfection.

I see your point Annie.

*snork* @ MS & nursecindy. I'm laughing with you. Really.

We're gonna need a better GPS to find that perfect man, cindy.

*WAVES @ Annie!!!* Hola, amiga!

Looks like everyone is on a coffee break...until 2038.

I was there in 1978, and the metal contraption leaning against the pillar was on the pillar to the right, so they're moving right along.

Looks more like a tribute to Walter the Magnificent.
*begins to build handbasket....very slowly*

I am very close to perfect, as I treat women with deference and deep respect.

So shut up, Siouxie!

Hola, Siouxie! This is why my people left Iberia for Ireland and invented Guinness. You guys take too long.

Sharkie?? You know that Bud handle you're saving for me?? Do me a favor and SMACK yourself upside the head with it. Thanks ;-P

MartiniShark, the only time you're close to perfection is when you're standing next to me.

Michaelangelo XXIV is doing the ceiling, I hear.

Annie, that silence you hear is me being a gentleman.

Annie, can I come close to perfection, too?... *wink*

Of course they are taking a long time; they have at least two highways and an airport to do. Unfortunately, they only have five guys (two of them are sick) and they are still using tools from the 18th century. Also, they demand payment in ducats.

Thanks for speaking up and pointing that out, MS. ;)

Meanie, this is a family blog. Try to keep it clean, please.

Just to break up the love-fest and get back on topic, I had a friend who wrote a postcard (remember those?) from Barcelona:

"Having a good time in Barcelona.
Was tacky.
Me, not Barcelona."

It probably costs like they're being paid in Ducatis.

Those construction workers are always over estimating the bill and under estimating the costs.

Thanks, Dave. Now I'm gonna be earwigging Alan Parsons all darned day.

Didn't Ducatis run for president in 1988?
