Would a New Jersey town by any other name smell as
sweetmuch?How 'bout Guidoville?

It's just north of Great Notch. It could be Great Snatch.

Oooff! *Knocked down by Stephen Colbert rushing into town*

One hates to be nasty, but how about Sh!th0le?

How about, "At Least It's Not Trenton"?
Posted by: Snarky Comment | April 20, 2009 at 09:33 AM
At least three other times residents rejected new names, including Garret Mountain in 2001.
wasn't 'Garret Mountin' a p0rnstar?

My God! I wish that was all I had to worry about.

Buddyville, Buddington, Buddy Borough, Buddy McBuddington...
Posted by: Punkin | April 20, 2009 at 09:53 AM
What difference does it make what they call the town when they still have to put "New Jersey" after it?
Even their zip codes are ugly out there.

Isn't the New Jersey town name default position the number of the nearest Turnpike Exit?
Posted by: Lairbo | April 20, 2009 at 09:55 AM
Go-Ogle Earth does not recongize Woodland Park, N.J. However, goOgle Earth does not recognize driving without the interstates, or highways named after letters (like in Missouri and Wisconsin).
WP is not on the Turnpike but between the Totowa and Paterson exits off the Bergen Passaic Expy, known as I-80 to non-Gahden Staters.

If you are going to name a town, why not attempt to achieve rock star status:
Absorbed Buddy, NJ
Adjustable Buddy, NJ
Armed Buddy, NJ
Buddy Corruption, NJ
Critical Buddy, NJ
Blistered Buddy, NJ
Buddy Frost, NJ
Buddy Growth, NJ
Buddy Harmony, NJ
New York Buddy, NJ
Buddy Stank, NJ

Notchabuddy, NJ

Since they are going to be right next to Paterson, regardless, they might just as well call themselves Floyd. Floyd-Paterson. It has a ring to it.
Posted by: Horace LaBadie | April 20, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Tromaville?
Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | April 20, 2009 at 10:24 AM
All of this debate is moot. Once Jon Voigt releases his bio-weapon rockets on the town they will have to name a crater.

Happy April 20th, Duuuuuuudes!!

Cause people want to know the name of the town they are leaving!
Posted by: Margaritaville | April 20, 2009 at 10:32 AM
Somewhere in Fort Worth there is a street named "Damfino". It go this name when a mapping company asked a guy on the street what the name of the street was.
Seems like it would work for a town, too.

how about... fukahwee. as in where the f-cahwee, anyway? [accent on second syllable]
Posted by: queensbee | April 20, 2009 at 10:56 AM
I hope Allen is okay because if Colbert does hear about this they will all be residents of Colbertville. I've never been this far north but isn't New Jersey 'The Garden State'? It sounds like a lovely place. ( I'm hopping they'll see this and name it Cindyville)
Posted by: nursecindy | April 20, 2009 at 11:19 AM
How about "Sindyville"?...
Posted by: Allen at Division | April 20, 2009 at 11:24 AM
New Saint Helier, after the capital of the Channel Island bailiwick of Jersey?
Posted by: oneblankspace | April 20, 2009 at 12:08 PM
Allen I just got that. I'll have you know I'm a good Catholic girl and I hardly ever sin, good Lord look at the lightening! Gotta go.

Paterson is a pretty gritty town, and the people of less gritty West Paterson are really desparately aiming for a name that doesn't have Paterson in it.
West Paterson - sorry, Upper Buddybrook - is two towns away from my (and Stephen Colbert's) town.

A smart move changing the name of the town from "gritty" West Paterson to bucolic Woodlawn Park. That alone probably raised the value of real estate in the town at least 20%.
Posted by: ricpic | April 20, 2009 at 06:45 PM
That is precisely the idea, ricpic.
Woodlawn Park, though, is reminiscent of some major cemeteries. Not sure that's the effect they're after.

Bayonne has a lovely ring to it.
