This sounds like a gimmick from the corndog industrial complex.

a corndog haiku:
beloved food of county fairs
aargh! my heart explodes!
character limit
so cyberspace can contain
a corndog twitter?
Posted by: insomniac | March 21, 2009 at 01:15 PM
Darn! We need advance notice of these important national holidays!
Posted by: NotSoShyJan | March 21, 2009 at 01:23 PM
Ok.. now I'm hungry.
Posted by: Siouxie | March 21, 2009 at 01:23 PM
We're gonna need more mustard.

Bumper stickers seen today:
It's twelve o'clock. Do you know where your corndog is?
Have you hugged your corndog today?
What if they gave a corndog and nobody came?
Make corndogs, not hoagies.
A woman's right to choose...CORNDOGS!!
Posted by: SW | March 21, 2009 at 01:51 PM
If corndogs are outlawed, then only outlaws will have corndogs.
Yes? No?
hungry...

Headline: MAN BITES CORNDOG
Posted by: SW | March 21, 2009 at 02:16 PM
No prob, Jan. Yesterday was apparently National Ravioli Day, so now you have 364 days advance notice of the next one.
And these fine folks maintain a list of "American Food and Drink Days". But they claim today is "California Strawberry Day", not "National Corndog Day", so what do they know?
Posted by: Richard the Weasel-Hearted | March 21, 2009 at 02:24 PM
You ain't nothin' but a corn dog
Fryin' all the time.
You ain't nothin' but a corn dog
Fryin' all the time.
Well, you make belchin' a habit
And you don't go good with wine.
When they said you've no trans fat,
Well, that was just a lie.
When they said you've no trans fat,
Well, that was just a lie.
You're cuisine not haute for Zagat
And you're just fit for a swine.
(Thank ya verra much....)
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | March 21, 2009 at 02:35 PM
Yay, Meanie! *snork* @ "You're cuisine not haute for Zagat." There's a special place for lines like that. Like Molokai.
Cali strawberries ARE in season! They are sooo good, wish I could share them with the whole dang blog.
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | March 21, 2009 at 02:52 PM
Can we combine this with Talk Like a Pirate Day?
I just want to call someone a "scurvy corrrrn dog."
Posted by: padraig the stereotypical | March 21, 2009 at 02:55 PM
If I'd known today was California Strawberry Day I would have held off eating that whole box of strawberries I ate yesterday.
Oh, who am I fooling. I'll just have another box today.
Cheers, Annie!

I have to stop reading this thread, otherwise I am going to drive 40 miles to get one of the worlds best corn dogs in Santa Cruz, Calif.
(I'm starving.)

My entry for [Nation or State] [food] Day haiku contest:
I am *so* hungry
I could eat many corndogs
and some strawberries
Posted by: ScottMGS | March 21, 2009 at 03:21 PM
By any chance do you deliver corn dogs and strawberries, Scott? I'm just in San Jose. I have beer!
Posted by: NotSoShyJan | March 21, 2009 at 03:26 PM
Unfortunately, NSSJan, the drive is long enough that by the time I got there the corndogs and strawberries would have been consumed. On the positive side, I would be ready for some beer after a drive like that.
Posted by: ScottMGS | March 21, 2009 at 03:30 PM
Scott, do you know the way to San Jose?
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | March 21, 2009 at 03:40 PM
*snorks* @ Annie & Meanie!
ok...I'm home now and I had a PB & J sammich. No corndogs.
Is it nap time?
Posted by: Siouxie | March 21, 2009 at 03:45 PM
Oooh! Yes, please, Annie. I was dragged, kicking and screaming, from the San Jose area back to the wrong coast 16+ years ago, and I still miss the food. And the weather. And San Francisco.
Posted by: Richard the Weasel-Hearted | March 21, 2009 at 03:55 PM
I had a piece of pecan pie.No dogs of any kind.
Posted by: ron | March 21, 2009 at 04:08 PM

Posted by: Clankazoid | March 21, 2009 at 04:18 PM
or Corndog Twitty?
Posted by: insomniac | March 21, 2009 at 04:20 PM
At least they could have set the date around country fair season. Nothing like a corndog at the fair, wash down with some dirty lemonade and top with a fried Twinky for dessert.
Posted by: Loudmouth | March 21, 2009 at 04:38 PM
Yes, Annie, and it passes near you.
Posted by: ScottMGS | March 21, 2009 at 05:03 PM
Yay! I love corn and I love dogs!
Posted by: Margaritaville | March 21, 2009 at 05:04 PM
Welcome home, Siouxie.

I love Fenway Franks.
*waits for snide remark from Annie*
Posted by: Punkin | March 21, 2009 at 06:00 PM
My uncle Frank used to go to Fenway.
Posted by: ron | March 21, 2009 at 06:26 PM
I try not to eat any meat that is on a stick.
At our Cleveland County Fair here in NC we have fried Snicker Bars and Fried Three Musketeers! I don't eat those either but I love strawberries dipped in chocolate.
Posted by: nursecindy | March 21, 2009 at 07:03 PM
I like Snickers dipped in Hershey's.
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | March 21, 2009 at 07:35 PM
And, no, I have not been shipping cookies to Kansas City.
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | March 21, 2009 at 07:52 PM
Yuck. Why not just have National Broccoli Lasagna Day? Couldn't be much worse.
