IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME

Armstrong Country cracks down on Amish-transporting.

Pennsylvania's Dutch treat.

Must be a real crime wave in Armstrong County to justify a 40 person task force.

“We can't all be that naïve to think that somebody's doing this for a pie,” Kirkwood said. “You better have cash if you call me.”
The milk of human kindness seems to be a bit sour in Mr. Kirkwood, poor man.

Why don't those lazy Amish just take a taxi? Just pick up the phone and... oh yeah, never mind.

Don't ask an Amish person if he can be the designated driver.

Off with her head!

OK, I get the point, but if you're only being compensated monetarily for the gas, how is that a for-profit anything?

Often, they respond to complaints from certified drivers who witness other drivers illegally transporting others.

And the "other drivers" know it's illegal how?

Because, as the story put it, "because of the traditional Amish dress, Amish passengers are easier to spot."
Seems to me, that if they put a t-shirt on and looked like, say, a Baptist, they could get a ride without putting the driver in trouble.

Wait. Their personal convictions prevent them from owning or operating a vehicle, but it's okay for them to ask someone else to do it for them? Am I the only one that thinks this is a little hypocritical?
