WHAT WE HATE ABOUT BLOGGING
What we hate is when people send us impossible productivity enhancers with comments such as "My personal best is 111.197 m" when we very rapidly determine that our personal best (after a frustratingly large number of tries because he seemed so enthusiastic about it) is 6.32 m.

Am I drunk or does that seem backwards, Meanie?!
Posted by: Meditrina | October 06, 2007 at 11:23 AM
Are you feeling a bit ass about face today Meanie?
Posted by: Mot the Hoople | October 06, 2007 at 11:24 AM
I can't seem to make it all the way across that big green area.

"Am I drunk or does that seem backwards, Meanie?!"
A) Possibly, and B) Yes.
(See post above my earlier post for possible, but by no means definite, understanding).

As for feeling a bit ass about face, maybe tonight.....
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | October 06, 2007 at 11:32 AM
112.583! That's good enough for me. Maybe you just can't make it across that big green area. I was thinking maybe if I went farther, I'd end up on that jet's tarmac or something. Or even cooler, get blasted by a jet engine for a serious updraft.

Bit of an upset in the 1/4 finals of the Rugby World Cup, England has just beaten Australia by 12 points to 10. Up the poms!!

Meanie, I always figured you for a cunning linguist.

Hey, Punky Poo. Yes, great games last night. Coulda been better. Leave it to Cleveland to haul out bugs to skulk out a win. Woulda been here sooner but I took a very hard charge in the basketball game Thursday night, and my back is out. As my son said when I got home, "Ok, Mom, but did you win?" Yes, we did. But, owie. A teammate said I looked like Walter Payton popping right up after a hard hit. Must be the tanning lotion I'm using. ;)

"Up the poms"? "Up the poms"?
Crikey, Mot! Where'd you get that?
Posted by: daisymae | October 06, 2007 at 01:23 PM
daisymae - not sure how Australia is more of a 'prisoner of mother england' that s.a. is. Not sure if I wanna even bring that up.
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | October 06, 2007 at 01:26 PM
annie - s.a. = south america, san antonio, south africa???? inquiring minds are...curious
Posted by: daisymae | October 06, 2007 at 01:29 PM
Annie, hope the back gets fixed quickly. Daisymae, Poms is a semi derogatory term for the English still in common usage in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, where I live.
Posted by: Mot the Hoople | October 06, 2007 at 01:41 PM
Whereas 'pommes de terre frites' are a whole 'nuther thing.
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | October 06, 2007 at 01:46 PM
Mot, you live in South Africa? What time zone are you in?
Posted by: daisymae | October 06, 2007 at 01:46 PM
reporter: how is it different playing through a plague of insects?
coach: it looks like we'll have to wake up our bats tonight.
reporter: will that actually help?
coach: yes, the groundskeepers are going to release swarms of bats periodically, we'll be wearing batting helmets the whole game. fans should, too.
Posted by: insomniac | October 06, 2007 at 01:48 PM
Mot and Annie - thanks for the clarification. I thought "up the poms" meant wave the pom-poms. You're right, Annie, 'pommes de terre' is a whole different ballgame no matter how you fix them.
Posted by: daisymae | October 06, 2007 at 01:49 PM
I found it weird that Mot would say that, considering he lives in South Africa, also a potential 'pommie' site. With my Irish background, calling someone a 'prisoner of mother england' was considered a terrible thing.
insom - we needed some alert bats last night. Both kinds. Yeesh.

DaisyMae, I'm currently 6 hours ahead of the East coastand 8 hours ahead of my daughter in Colorado. When you guys do your daylight saving thingy soon, we'll be 7 hours ahead of the East Coast. SA is permanently 2 hours ahead of Greenwich.
We've just had a doozy of a storm which whacked out the internet connection for a few minutes so I aplogise for not replying sooner.
Posted by: Mot the Hoople | October 06, 2007 at 02:04 PM
By way of explanation, there is a friendly (sometimes not so friendly) rivalry between SA and Australia so I will cheer for whichever team happens to be playing Australia in whatever sport. Our countries are so similar in so many respects that it's almost uncanny. We're forever competing on the sports fields in cricket, rugby, track and field, lawn bowls and swimming. Poms or Pommies are terms that are in very common usage in the English speaking Southern Hemisphere countries. It's not used with any malicious intent however.

All in good fun, right Mot? Sounds like Fla State versus Univ of Fla, except on a countrywide scale.
(just a side note - I still don't know what 'up the pom' means)
Posted by: daisymae | October 06, 2007 at 02:26 PM
Thanks for the update, Mot. Are you and Mrs. Hoople planning on being stateside for the holidays still? We just rolled out the autumn menu, and it is AMAZING.
Posted by: Meditrina | October 06, 2007 at 02:33 PM
There is a problem with getting enough time off to make the trip worthwhile over Christmas. It looks as if we are reverting to our original plan to coincide our next visit with little Millie's 4th birthday in September next year. The fares are not cheap and it's not worth going all that way just for a week or two. We'll definitely plan a visit to KC when we're in the US
Posted by: Mot the Hoople | October 06, 2007 at 03:12 PM
daisymae - pom =Prisoner Of Mother england. So you're basically saying 'up yours,' but according to Mot, it's ok.
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | October 06, 2007 at 03:19 PM
thanks, annie. That's way not what I thought it meant. NTTAWRT

Annie - Sorry you have a boo boo. El told me to be nice so I will.
*pours Annie some hot cider w/ rum*
Here - this cures everything.
Posted by: Punkin Poo | October 06, 2007 at 03:23 PM
"up the poms" in that context was akin to saying "Hooray for England" in beating Australia against all expectations. All you erudite bloggers (Annie in particular) are attaching way too many sinister connotations to my innocent little exaltation to the much maligned England rugby team.
Posted by: Mot the Hoople | October 06, 2007 at 03:52 PM
Thanks, Punkin. I'm gonna assume that gnat flew in there on its own and that you didn't put it in there to remind me of last night's Yankee game.

Rick, I honestly think we have a chance at pulling off the Back to Back to Back to Back, two years running for Hoops and Pointy Ball. The football Gators are young, but it's possible and that could be a forever record. No wealth sharing now, they have to win the SEC Championship then hopefully get to the BCS Championship game. Never thought I would see such thing even possible. If they don't make it, I won't be heartbroken, because they've had a Hell of a run, but I doubt we'll ever live to see somebody have a shot at it again!
Posted by: CJrun | October 06, 2007 at 10:08 PM
You have a point (and not the ball) there CJ. It would be historic and the odds of the hoops team doing it again this year went out the window with the NBA draft. It is still theoretically possible for Florida to get to the big dance if the beat the Tigers. Just about every previously high ranked team has lost a game so far. Except for the Bulls of South Florida...
Posted by: Doc Rick | October 06, 2007 at 10:15 PM
Thanks, CJ. At least we're resilient fans. We have to be tough. So...we're already looking at who's gonna stay and who's gotta go. Need a new bullpen (in part) and a few better hitters. Theriot, Zambrano and Soriano can stay. I have no real loyalty to any of the rest of 'em.
Posted by: DeskDiva | October 06, 2007 at 10:19 PM
Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League
On the plus side, I had goat for dinner and scored 111.45.
Posted by: dieswithstevegoodman | October 06, 2007 at 10:21 PM

Posted by: Doc Rick | October 06, 2007 at 10:36 PM
Uh Oh CJ! And so you know I'm pulling for the Gators since I want every team in the hunt for the BCS with at least 1 loss. They need a playoff system yesterday.

Posted by: Doc Rick | October 07, 2007 at 12:02 AM
Great game. Down to the Hail Mary.
I wanted to beat LSU, but we don't need to beat LSU or Auburn, now. We have to get to the SEC Championship game at the end of the season. Then we meet LSU on neutral turf to advance from the SEC. It doesn't matter what LSU's record is if they don't beat the winner of the SEC East.

The LSU game sounds like it was fun, but I'm having more fun watching my Missouri Tigers stomp the crap out of Nebraska.
41-6. And there's still over five minutes left in the game.
Don't think the 'Huskers will be in the AP Top 25 come Monday morning...
Posted by: Wes S. | October 07, 2007 at 12:40 AM
Yes Wes, I would have to agree. Funny how that USC game was so ballyhooed and yet it happened exactly how most people expected it would. Apparently Missouri is the Big 12's best chance at BCS bid at the moment. Go Tigers! *hey, I almost went to school there but for the out of state enrollment costs.*
Posted by: Doc Rick | October 07, 2007 at 12:50 AM
Either Missouri or Oklahoma...and the Tigers face the Sooners next week in Norman. That ought to be a good game.
And there's the "Border War" showdown between Missouri and Kansas coming up November 24th at Arrowhead, and I think KU is also unbeaten right now. They beat K-State today, actually.
Whatever happens, it looks like the Tigers are in the driver's seat in the Big 12 North...
Meanwhile...HEY, NEBRASKA! I've got your fifth down right here...*pffffbt*
Posted by: Wes S. | October 07, 2007 at 01:03 AM
Wes, they still proclaim the "5th Down" as one of the greatest moments in Rocky Mountain history on FSN: Rocky Mountain. A rip off play...go figure. Now to be fair, they analyzed it, but it still sucks for Mizzou.
