Who will be the first kid to trick another to eat one and see if their poop turns blue/green afterwards?

"As the maggots channel their inner Jackson Pollock, students learn that the writhing larvae aren't just slimy nuisances – they kill bacteria, decompose waste and even help crime investigators."
That doesn't make them any less gross. At my last job (a greenhouse), I spent some time pulling them off of rotting seed potatoes. Not a recipe for a good time. Ick.

Bethie, check with your local bait store. You might not find maggots, but you can get millworms, which are pretty darned close. Then, if your nephew doesn't want to paint with them, he can always go fishing for crappie.

"Their first reaction is the 'Ooo!' factor,"
Is this how they spell 'EEEEEEWWWWWW' in Texas?

In other news, I hate the bot with the fire of a thousand suns. Carry on.

Would the school district consider this a prop?

I appreciate the info, Charlotte! Thank you!

maggots are gateway artist tools. before long, they'll be painting with rats, snakes, tree frogs.
*shudders* i'm scaring myself.

Do you believe in maggots
In a young girl's art?
How the mucousy spirits
Start crawling apart
And the maggots
When they wriggle and frolic
Are much more creative than a
Jackson Pollock
Believe in the maggots when they're dipped in paint
And you could swear you got a Rothko though you know it ain't...

Wasn't Maggot Art an album by Funkadelic?

Looks at art. Pukes. Maggots eat puke, make more art.
I want royalties.

Figures this is a Texas idea. Now if only they could figure out a use for those horse-sized cockroaches...

Nookee, I think they exported them to Miami.
Posted by: Siouxie | September 12, 2007 at 05:13 PM
Weren't the Artistic Maggots touring with the Texas Cockroaches a while back? I think they left some roadies back home, before heading to Miami.
