Teenage Australian convenience store parking lot loiterers, beware!
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | July 16, 2007 at 11:36 AM
Well now I have the original "Don't go breaking my heart" stuck in my brain -- ARGHHHHH! -- as well as all manner of unpleasant (and one or two pleasant) 70s flashbacks. Overall, this explains why I feel a bit queasy.
Sigh. I was an idealistic teenager in the 70s. And,if I do say so myself, I had a very good figure and GREAT legs! Now I have to repeat to myself that at 49 I have hardly any winkles and nice brown eyes, and I stop right about there.
PS While I like many of Sir Elton's other songs, I always LOATHED this one. That's why I say yay Rosie because she certainly can't make it any worse and may at least provide a little comic relief.
You go, Rosie!

"the project will be available as an 18-track single-disc set and as a two-disc set with a 14-song Dual Disc (CD/DVD) and a nine-song bonus audio CD."
What? No 8-track?
Posted by: wiredog | July 16, 2007 at 11:50 AM
*is pissed about the lack of 8-track version too*
Posted by: kibby F5™ | July 16, 2007 at 12:00 PM
OK, so apparently DGBMHeart was stored in my brain under "bad 70s songs", so my brain has now dished out "Afternoon Delight" and I just know that "Muskrat Love" is next in the lineup.
Followed by "Having My Baby".

Rosie & the Donald duet-
Don't go combin' my part
I couldn't if I tried
Baby if I get restless
Rosie, you're not my kind.
Don't go bein' so smart
You take the weight off, fat-ty
Donald, when you knocked on my door
I called you 'donkey.'
Nobody knows it
When I was down
You dissed my crown.
No you don't know shit
Rich from the start
Comb over your part.
Oooooh, I told you don't start.
So don't go stakin' my heart
I won't go stakin' your heart
Don't go stakin' my heart.
And nobody told us
`Cause nobody loves us
And now it's up to us babe
I think we can fake it
So don't miss any meals for me
You put the fight in my life
You put the gays to the flame
I've got your hair in my sights...

Good one, Annie! *Snork*
Posted by: Just Ducky | July 16, 2007 at 12:16 PM
Why, Jeff? You don't have any 70s songs running through your head now, do you? ;-)
Oh, if I could just access the part of my brain that's stored "MacArthur Park" (Richard Harris version). I know, I know... I'm the only one on the planet who loves that song.
Not to mention, "Feelings".
Woah, woah, Woah WOAOAOUH! Feelings! Nothing more than feelings....
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 12:16 PM
Amer, I may just have to go to Paree and *smack* you with a bagette!!

Amer - "C'est un monde tres petit, vraiment...."
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | July 16, 2007 at 12:27 PM
Not only did I send this in early last week, I also posted it in a related apocalypse thread last week too.
*pout - I wanted credit for warning of this disaster /pout*
That being said, Snorks all around, especially at Annie's ditty.

..Oh, and did y'all hear the one about the Man Eating Badgers?
Posted by: Bãrön vønKlýff | July 16, 2007 at 12:42 PM
Anni and Souixie,
How about "Billy, Don't be a Hero"?
Et maintenant? Vous les deux avez encore besoin de Javel pour le cerveau? Trés vite?
Et oui, c'est vraiment une monde trés petite, mais mon numero de téléphone et mes coordinées ne sont pas inscrire dans les Pages Jaunes.

His last two albums of 50s and 60s hits weren't that bad--perfectly suited to his demographic, I would think. A true sign of the apocalypse would be if he picked other hits of the 70s...you know, the ones that can still induce LSD flashbacks and incredible pangs of guilt mixed with longing? If he took those songs on, then the end would truly be near. *imagines Barry Manilow singing "Comfortably Numb"*
I give the guy credit for being consistent and aware of his audience.
Posted by: JayBee | July 16, 2007 at 01:00 PM
*le snorque* au Amer - c'est chouette, ca!
Baron, please quit staring at my ditty. It's snot polite.
For the Donald -
"See the hair, how big it's grown,
And friends, it hasn't been too long since,
It wasn't big."
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | July 16, 2007 at 01:03 PM
uh...oui?
Annie, even *I* got that one....eeeeek!

This is disturbing on so many different levels.. It's like the Perfect Storm fo gayness..NTTAWWT..
Posted by: Sean | July 16, 2007 at 01:16 PM
fo = of
Posted by: Sean | July 16, 2007 at 01:16 PM
OK, OK. I confess -- when I was a romantic, idealistic teen-ager of the 70s, I loved Barry Manilow's music. Not all of it, but a lot of it.
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 01:17 PM
Perfect storm of gayness? (asks the token sapphist)??
And while I'm confessing to my atrocious musical taste ... I also like Wildfire (yes, I agree, killing frost is pretty stupid).
And I love squirrels.
And, and, and... I can't stand Watching Scotty Beam Me UP -- I mean, grow.
And I listen to FRENCH music! And enjoy it!!! Bwaaaaa!!
... off to take my medication now...
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 01:24 PM
Amer, I have often admitted to liking his music when I was young and stoopid. Even to the point of going to one of his concerts. I have also admitted that drugs may or may not have been involved.
Posted by: Siouxie | July 16, 2007 at 01:25 PM
And Annie,
I'm very impressed that you know "chouette".You seem to know a lot of French.
PS I am now listening to Klaatu. Hands up anyone who remembers them.
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 01:26 PM
I went to an Osmonds concert when I was thirteen -- but then, I lived in very clean-cut, predominently Mormon, Mesa, Arizona. Needless to say, the Osmonds were HUGELY popular.
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 01:28 PM
Amer, I was a huge HUGE fan of Donny Osmond but never saw them.
Posted by: Siouxie | July 16, 2007 at 01:35 PM
I would love to kick the asses of all people responsible for that wretched piece of song called "Afternoon Delight".
Posted by: Bethie | July 16, 2007 at 01:40 PM
Siouxie,
A friend of mine was a HUGE, HUGE fan and based on her devotion and detailed knowledge, she was able to win a contest so she was one of 5 people who got to spend an hour or so backstage with the Osmonds.
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 01:46 PM
Amer - thanks, I had a wonderful French teacher in high school. Merci beaucoup, Madame Wakefield!
Et Donny Osmond est le pire!
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | July 16, 2007 at 01:58 PM
LTTG, bit imho, this song (the original, of course) ranks way up ther in the "male/female rock/pop duet" category, along with several by marvin Gaye and his various partners.
And good woek to annie.
