Can't wait for the 'Booger' plates.
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | July 16, 2007 at 11:25 AM
So something that's NOT offensive was suppressed because it's similar to something offensive? Ooookaaaay.
Posted by: DeskDiva | July 16, 2007 at 11:26 AM
If I squint a bit, it looks like snooze -- or rather "snoz".
Maybe the Scots need glasses?
And, uh, speaking of words that resemble "snot"...

Not that I'm suggesting that folks deliberately do something that is similar to being offensive or nothin'.

*Blows nose*
*Looks at the word "SNO7"*
*Looks at tissue*
I don't get it.
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | July 16, 2007 at 11:30 AM
Since when is snot offensive??
sheesh.
Posted by: Siouxie | July 16, 2007 at 11:30 AM
"In this case, the SN07 marks would have been too similar to the word 'snot' and, as that could possibly offend some buyers..."
*wonders who gets to decide what's possibly offensive and what's snot*
*wonders how HE could get that job*
Job Description: The successful applicate would need to demonstrate the abilitly to sit around all day rearranging magnetic letters and devising methods to determine if a specific combination would be considered offensive or not. Inappropriate combinations would be barred from use except on the PMs car or other official vehicles.

TWA7 is definitely out as an alternative license plate number too.
Posted by: Meditrina | July 16, 2007 at 11:33 AM
I've got a friend here in Ga who was proud as she could be of her state issued license plate. The prefix was SXY.
Posted by: fivver | July 16, 2007 at 11:34 AM
SN09 looks too much like "snog" - oops
Posted by: kibby F5™ | July 16, 2007 at 11:35 AM
I like my prefix fiv, it is wmn. Sheer happenstance, but I laughed at the guy in front of me who got the same one.... wonder if he ever noticed.

The world is once again safe for Democracy (well for a quasi-representative democracy of a semi-autonomous state in an empire with a figurehead Monarch.)

In the UK the first letters change each year and it's a bit of a status thing (so says a friend) to have the current letters. Perhaps they felt that people wouldn't feel so pleased with SNO7.
OTOH, once again I say that Scot and Snot are more similar than SNO7 and SNOT.
SNO7 can also be read as SNOW 7, which seems pretty harmless.

Note: Change every year in alphabetical order.

my favorite lisence plate which i have seen on an actual vehicle in three dimensions while sober was: MEN 469. the car was driven by a college age guy, and had a couple of other guys in it.
Posted by: mudstuffin | July 16, 2007 at 11:42 AM
I guess we can't use 7I7S, SHI7,or 7ANCREDO either?
Posted by: Hammond Rye | July 16, 2007 at 11:43 AM
"The change means that cars registered in the capital are the only ones in Scotland not to begin with an S."
So they are changing it to "T."
Wouldn't they use ENO7? You know like E for Edinburgh, the capital?
What is really going on here?

Is it me or is "DVLA" too much like a women's ... never mind!
Posted by: kibby F5™ | July 16, 2007 at 11:46 AM
I have only read about this one, but my all-time favorite license plate is:
3M TA3
It's meant to be seen in a rear view mirror.
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | July 16, 2007 at 11:47 AM
It's you, kibby. ;)
Posted by: Meditrina | July 16, 2007 at 11:48 AM
My favorite California vanity plate was on a white Volkswagen Rabbit.
It said "IML8IML8".
My hat's off to the person who thought up that.

I tried sending this item to Judi for posting once, but she had the good sense to decline.
Posted by: Meanie the Blue | July 16, 2007 at 11:51 AM
LOL Meanie & Hammie!
Amer, that's a great one too.
Posted by: Siouxie | July 16, 2007 at 11:52 AM
Yet I did not have the good sense not to peek at it, Meanie. LOL!
Posted by: DeskDiva | July 16, 2007 at 11:56 AM
Thanks Med! I was worried!
Posted by: kibby F5™ | July 16, 2007 at 11:58 AM
AP--I once had plates that said *L8AGIN* back in the day.
Posted by: Cheryl Howard | July 16, 2007 at 12:05 PM
Great one, Meanie. @SS @rgy WBAGNFARB.
I guess if my brother Ken ever moves back to NY he can use my license plate, which starts KNN.
Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | July 16, 2007 at 12:16 PM
Good one, Cheryl! And one I can personally relate to!
Posted by: AmerInParis | July 16, 2007 at 12:18 PM
Sooo, SNO7, meaningless and inoffensive, is potentially offensive and can't be glimpsed on a car, whereas snot may be pointedly printed by the BBC?
William Wallace is spinning in his grave....
Posted by: CJrun | July 16, 2007 at 01:19 PM
My mom got a completely randomly generated license plate that says THC on it. She got followed home one night by a pimp looking for some hash.
Posted by: Bethie | July 16, 2007 at 01:29 PM
Snot is not the same as booger. But as they say,
You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.
Posted by: william cormeny | July 16, 2007 at 02:28 PM
What a strange thing for people to get offended about. I can think of plenty of other more offensive things to be bothered about.
