24 ADVISORY
As some of you may recall, last year, when the 24 season ended on TV, it continued on this blog, thanks to the clinically insane awe-inspiring efforts of The Amazing Steve, who each Monday night continued to present a detailed summary of the ongoing plot of the show, which was going on only in his mind. Steve has advised this blog that he plans to continue that tradition this year, so tonight at 9 Eastern Central Mountain Pacific Daylight Perimeter Time we will present a brief summary of the situation, followed, in the comments, by The Amazing Steve. Feel free to join us.

And as always this proves that for every bleeding moronic a'hole on this poor planet, there are plenty of others out there who go the opposite direction and come up with good ideas. Also proves this blog has some of the smartest people on said planet hanging out in it. That being said, I'm ready for some thigh shootin'! Bartender, give me one of everything and drinks for everyone are on me.

That reminds me, Dr. Rick - have you seen the Banker? I was gonna bbq today. ;)

Bingo, DocRick. Now, if only everyone would elect Dave Barry president (yes, of the United States) we could be his hidden cabinet - sorta like the one you store your best liquor in - and feed him all our good ideas.

casey - good point - I have a pile of clothes, toys and kid's books for Battered Women all ready to go. I never thought of adult books. I mean adult-rated books...er, books that adults read. You know what I mean!

Jeez...I just caught that story about the bookseller burning his stock, and WTF kind of bookseller burns books?!
About a month ago, during a spring cleaning binge, I packed up five boxes' worth of books - half of them hardcover fiction, all of them in good shape - and drove them down to the nearest branch of my local library. The library staff was delighted to get them...although the nice lady at the help desk was taken aback when she fetched a cart out to my car and I popped the trunk.
Oh well...I'm sure several years' worth of library patrons will enjoy them.

I'm so sorry.

oh Annie, I think the Banker may have learned a lesson the other day on a very special "Don't F#@k With The Blog!" Last seen heading for a commune up in Canada (or at the very least Vermont). Scott, couldn't agree more with Dave for Prez, although based on recent history he may be overqualified for the job.

Woof!! A WYO simul up there of all things!! AND on a topic that's near an' dear to both our hearts....
Is it warm in here?!?

Uh, Doc. It's me bartending. And I seem to recall
that you're a tightwadsticker shock at my selections previously. So, a virtual PBR for everyone, compliments of the Doc. ;)Posted by: Meditrina | May 28, 2007 at 09:01 PM
Doc, all the more reason to get him in there. It'd be great to have an over-qualified president for once since Thomas Jefferson. The problem, of course, is that, generally, the people who are qualified - and better - are also qualified to do other things well, too. E.g., writing humor books.
Oh, and quit bein' so stingy at the blogbar! Tonight, three rules:
1. No beer that's made in vats larger than 1000 gallons.
2. No wine that is made by any company that also puts wine in boxes.
C. No spirits that aren't hand-crafted.

Or, closer to home:
"Rebuild New Orleans Public Library"(RNOPL) is asking that due to storage and staffing shortages, direct donations of actual books for New Orleans be made to Better World Books , which acts as a clearing house for these types of charities. BWB will sell the books and, if earmarked for RNOPL, send the proceeds to New Orleans.
Diva, the $$ that the bookseller made at the book burning could pay for a shipment of books to one of these charities. A phoenix from the ashes, so to speak.

Annie and Diva, not to be a downer or anything, but the best thing to give to a battered women's shelter is time. Most of the time, the women there have other issues, and have to go to support meetings and stuff. I only had to stay a short time, about a week, but then I was sorta homeless for about 6 months. Years later, when I had time, I volunteered at a nearby shelter and babysat and cleaned and played with the kiddies while the ladies tried to find jobs, attended job training, went to various support groups, etc. Since I spent so little time in one myself, I can't really speak for other people, but from my volunteer experience, I know that time, books, children's toys and all kinds of clothes are always truly, truly appreciated.
Dont feel bad for me. I made it thru and I'm a better and stronger person and it was a long time ago.

Thanks for the perspective, casey. My best friend lost her home (three-flat she shared with her mom and sisters) in a house fire a year and a half ago. She, her son, her mom and sisters were given emergency shelter apartment housing temporarily while they searched for a new place to live. It gave them an inside look at the safety net that is there, thank God, although most of us never see it. Watching them go through that changed me, and I'm truly glad the system works, at least sometimes.

not implyin' we're NEbuddy special or nuthin' but we've passed lotsa stuff on to others who'll use it ... whut doesn't go to the Sr. Citizens' Perpetual Rummage Sale goes to the WARC outfit ... clothes, furniture, old cell phones (for those in crisis, especially), kids games & toys ... dang few books tho ... I'm still readin' 'em ...
There's a couple of young women in my life who've been battered/abused, and so I'm very conscious of the safety net that's out there, and when we can help a bit, we do ...
OTOH, if this bookseller could take the time to put up a list online, and ship the books fer the postage & handling costs plus a moderate fee, I'm sure I'd be in the market for several packages of books ... to further fill my garage(s) ... merely, overstocked ... but not burnin' 'em ...

casey - no matter how long ago it was, what I'm sorry about is that you had to go through it in the first place. I'm SO glad to see how you've come through it, and I admire you for going back to "repay" what you received. You have my respect, Ma'am.

I haven't read one post here, but I have one question...

I *LOVE* Steve's whatchmacallits. Hey, can we make Audrey like the "24" Kenny and kill her every week? (Sorry, I'm out for blood... I blame the writers, the producers, the network and the twit that replaced the real coffee on set for non-meth crystals)
