IN CASE YOU'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK

Please see a counselor.

Also, you should know that this weekend is the Miami Book Fair, where the world famous Rock Bottom Remainders will be performing surgery sexually (well, we aren't sure what it is, but it certainly isn't music) publicly at 5 pm (or possibly 5:30; how would we know?) on Saturday, as well as (of course) at the Voices for Children event tonight.

OK, I read ONE SK book, long ago, with a VERY UNUSUAL dog as the main character. Can't remember the name...

Niters, Cheryl. Bali, I sent you a cheat sheet and what may be the tutorial you need. If you find it useful, forward it to the others. I still have a terrible time, efficiently posting links to images that are not on the web, but the rest is very straighforward. I forgot to mention one thing in the email; "Save As" is your other friend. If you want to save what you did, always left click File, Save As, and give it a new name. Try to keep your original clean to go back to, in case you make a typo or something.

LOL ubetcha!! and yes..the cuban genes do help a LOT. I love to dance and I usually don't embarass myself.

Ducky..that had to be Cujo!

THAT'S IT!!!!

I did go and check the library before your post and you picked 'em. Gerald's Game is a stretch -- definitely not my first pick for a virgin. I think I'd go with The Green Mile first, then Hearts in Atlantis. I love the short stories, but you never know what you might run into there. Being an AVID Red Sox fan, I loved The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and that's fairly harmless.

I'm reading the new one (Lisey's Story) but I have so little time to read I can't just throw myself down and devour it like I used to. Um - I guess I could be doing that now, couldn't I?

OK, then I've read TWO SK books--complete forgot he wrote The Green Mile, which was quite good, although sad.

Jeez Ducky! Cujo was a tough start. Might put you off dogs forever. Don't read Pet Cemetary. Try Misery. Then see the movie, becaue it was a beaut (Kathy Bates is superb) and true to the book. So was the Stand mini-series, the Langoliers - loved that one. I think The Stand is among his best works but you have to work your way up to that one.

*going to bed with Stephen King now**

becaue is a French word I think. Insert an s accordingly.

Maybe start with the Dark Tower series. Oh and he also co-wrote The Talisman with another fav author of mine...Peter Straub. That's a fantasy-type novel.

Night, ubetcha! Thanks for the suggestions!

Whoa, I'm talking about Stephen King, and suddenly I'm AN HOUR AHEAD of everyone else! Do do do do...

I agree with ubetcha...the Stand..Langoliers...and Misery are probably the best movie/tv versions...although the books are always WAY better. There is such a vast selection of work it's hard to pick just ONE!

Let's not forget IT, Salem's Lot (my first one)and Carrie.

Thanks, CJ! I'll work on it. And as for Mr. King, I LOVED "Thinner". It's my fave after "Tommyknockers".

Evanovich is great!

Great. The blog clock is just messin' with me now.

dang stoopid blog clock! who knows when this will post!

Ubetcha, BeHAVE! Besides, Detroit Soul taught everybody how to dance. Detroit, to Chicago, down Highway 66 to the Delta, American Rock, R&B. I once asked the guy at the bottom of the hill I careened down to school, a stoic guy named Peter McIntosh, where Reggae came from. He explained to me that it came from New Orleans. Even that young, that blew my mind. The way Peter Tosh explained it to me, he and his buddy Marley used to sneak away with a battery/ transistor radio and lie on their bellies in the grass, listening to blues and jazz from New Orleans. It faded in and out and they would make up their own parts. They got to like the spare sound and started putting songs together that way, so everyone could then add in when it was played. I suppose Mr. Tosh was sympathetic towards me, having seen me have to do the human steam-roller thing and all, and believe he was being honest. After we completed the volleyball court, my dad made me build a dance floor, jutting out of the hill, for my sister's 18th birthday party. I am certain my parents never had sex. I am also certain they can dance their booties off. I'm the wierdo scientist that was taught to build on hills. That's why I work on roofs. I quit my job in 1994, as I could never help build another golf course subdivision or a major powerline again. I started again, in 1999, as I could never again be a marine biologist, standing knee-deep in water full of crap. I had to go back, upstream, into commercial clean-up and demo was. That's where I can leverage my efforts and try to teach kids what and why I'm doing. Plus, I'm a better dancer, so they listen!

CJ, when my son was little, and I told him to BEHAVE, he'd reply, " I AM being have."

agrees with ubetcha on evanovich. and ranger! might not want to read them all in a row though as they get repetitive. i never really thought stephen king was scary. macabre, yes, scary, not so much, but then i was reading him back when carrie was a girl. how'd it get so late and why don't any of us have lives?

who's channeling rod serling?

You have now entered...The Twilight Zone.

My 10:33 post was supposed to be a 9:33 post. It made much more sense that way.

*snork* @ Ducky.

I love the the Stephanie Plum series. I really want to meet Ranger.
If some of this does not make sense, in my defense I had 3 pounders of beer at the pub after work and am now almost done with my first glass of wine at home.
When my daughter was young, she was telling me about some dults she had met with my mother. I asked what on earth was she talking about: Dults. She said you know, more than a dult.
Pet Semetary scared the crap out of me. I always kept a wary eye on my dogs after reading that.

OK, Siouxie, my best friend, I will give SK a try. But I'm callin' you at 2 am if I'm too scared to sleep! ;)

The first time I read a Carl Hiaasen book was on an airplane flight. Everyone kept staring at me cuz I could not help laughing out loud.

LOL Ducky....sure!

Love Straub, Koonz. Have you ever read Janet Evanovich? Totally different but you'll laugh your butt off OUT LOUD wherever you are. She has a series starting with "One for the Money" all the way up to 13 at this point and you should check out her website where you can preview a few chapters of a book. http://www.evanovich.com/

It's the Stephanie Plum series. Light reading but an absolute riot. You don't really have to start at #1, but knowing what I know, I would recommend it. And I guarantee you'll be hot for Ranger.

'nuff said

Sio, you got it! I couldn't remember the name, but it seems to me I first read Salem's Lot as a short story. My problem with the SK books is that, especially as Peter Straub came on board they got too spooky and too culty. Once you got into those, you had signed on for the ride.

For me, the best author I have read in the last ten years is James W. Hall. He should be at the bookfair, tomorrow. His best writing, to me, was when he was just struggling out of poetry and first invented his fly-tying protagonist. I discovered him in a library, back in the mid-90s when I tried my first Atlas Shrug. I have never seen copies of his earliest work on sale, but the relevantly current stories about Thorn are entertaining. If you haven't given him a look, you should.

Rollr, I had the same experience. But I laugh out loud reading this blog, so I'm used to being stared at!

*makes note to check out Carl Hiassen & James Hall*

and now ubetcha will say.... this!

did we catch up??

OK, now I'm psychic and know what ubetcha's gonna say at, oh, about 10:27.

LTTG, a bit, Sio, but yes, we've finally met ourselves coming and going. Whew!

dang I missed it LOL

Maybe the evil blogclock will have another attack adn we can try again. And again, and again...

CJ, as soon as I read Salem's Lot...I was hooked for life!

Straub got me at Ghost Story & Shadowland...then he teamed up with SK for Talisman...I loved it!

Well, all, thanks for the fun. Siouxie, CJ, and ec, I'm SO jealous. Have a bunch of fun tomorrow, and take plenty of pictures for those of us who wish to live vicariously through you.

Nighty-night!

Well my friends...I will now get some much needed sleep/rest.

CJ- I will see you tomorrow!! can't wait! I'll call you in the morning to see where we'll meet.

I'll get all your books (I hope)!!

Nite nite!

night ya'll. have fun tomorrow. sniff.

Me too. Gotta get to bed. Nobody commented on JW Hall and I hope to introduce some Blogettes to America's real Poet Laureate tomorrow. His books are amazing, small, large and he sings the bonefish flats. Fancies himself introspective, methinks....

Why would Dave be at a BOOK fair?

Siouxie - guess ya didn't catch me cuz i'm all here by myself. Geez - you geezers go to bed awful early on a Friday night. I'm just gettin' into my second wind!

We want pictures and CJ the scientist. Crap cam is still way better than Connecticut. TYVM!

Niters.

Oh, and CJ, THE Peter Tosh? Surely you jest.

And yes, I'm calling you Shirley.

Go back up there with me.

"We want pictures and CJ the scientist." Uh, I think I meant for Siouxie to take the pictures, but not of CJ. OK, that wouldn't be so bad, but I was hoping CJ the scientist might at least bring a Polaroid or toxic waste camera or somethin' to back her up. Yikes. Scratch "back her up."

OK, I'm done with the second wind. Mudslides won.

*BIG FRIKKIN POUT*

Don't move, now ....gotcha!

*BIG FRIKKIN HUG* to Punkin!!

Thanks, Siouxie...........quit teasin' me, Meanie....*snif*

awwwwww don't feel bad, Punkin...you look sooooooooo cute when you pout ;)

Punkin, I have some book orders this time around but I also plan on going to the Books & Books signing on the 28th. IF you want, email me and I'll grab a copy of the new book for ya....course have Mr. Blog sign it for you. I'll snail mail it after.

*thinks this could be a lucrative business venture*

If a rent a truck and buy the whole inventory I could re-sell to suckers unfortunate bloglits that can't make the signing.

hmmmmm

uh...was I thinking out loud???

make that if *I*...not if *a*

Well ...I'm off to get ready...promise photos for all!

*really wishes all her bloglit friends were here*

smoooochiessssssssssss

Siouxie, would you be willing to grab a couple of books for the blog master to sign for me?

I would be happy to paypal you some $$$.

Would be great for the kids and the nephews for Christmas.

BTW - Good morning. Coffee anyone?

I am pouting with Punkin'. But Im pouting that my new job keeps me away from the blog during the week, and I miss my LOLs and snorks. It just isn't the same on Sat am when everyone else is gone.

*checks to see if the blog is broken*

Nope, everybody just went out and got lives. :)

I wish, KDF! Laundry and housecleaning do not constitute getting a life.

*sigh*

*trudges back to the salt mines*

Yeah, me too JD. Same salt mine.

*wonders if they serve margaritas in the salt mines*

*thinks they should, since salting the rims wouldn't even be necessary*

KDF, that's an inspired thought!

So I came home for lunch and found that everything was Just Ducky.

*makes note to investigate possible new business venture*

Oh, goody! Thanks, Wyo! (And thanks for the simul, too!)

Neener neener!guess who WE just saw???

btw..I'm in a strange man's hotel room!!

help me!! (this is Siouxie)

Ducky, Cheryl & ubetcha - got your books signed by Mr. Blog himself!!!

Med - sorry...didn't see that till now...maybe next book signing on the 28th -e-mail me.

YAY! Thanks, Siouxie! (Why are you calling CJ a strange man???)

My hotel room overlooks the Miami River. I can watch the bodies float by from the 15th floor. Plus, there is a low flow toilet in the bathroom.

Time to go get cold beers!

*sigh*

It's 5:20 pm, and Siouxie is probably about to throw her undies to the band.......

Wish MY undies were there....

someone say beer? *sigh* have one for me.

psssst, siouxie, just how strange is cj?

Okay, bloggers! All of us who have to live vicariously through Siouxie and CJ.....

The bar is open. I have Stevie Ray playing. Anyone need a cocktail? I am pouring.

i'll have a mojito pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze but no shoes.

Whew. After wading through the previous unbelievable post, Med, I DEFINITELY need a cocktail! And Stevie Ray...too good! Did you know we have a large statue of him here in Austin?

The shoe post, cg, not yours!

cheers to mr. vaughn.

Where's that blasted robot when you need him?

Tryin' on shoes.

I had to ask, didn't I.

this post brings up yet another shortfall in English punctuation. We have been using $ to indicate sarcasm, but there is no rhetorical ?

Hmmmmmmm

CG - One mojito, with a swizzle stick from Miami.

Wyo - A cold beer for you? Or would you prefer a single malt? Neat, of course.

JD - Didn't know that about Austin. In spite of the fact that I grew up in the MW, I have not had the pleasure of exploring Austin or San Antonio. I will check that out.

And Wyo - Did you leave the barn door open for the shi! spammers?

Stevie Ray was an Austin native, Med. I'll take a mojito, too.

Wyo--how 'bout R? for rhetorical questions?

i didn't know we had a secret code for sarcasm....

Is the sarcasm on this blog a secret? I thought it was out of the closet.

Ducky - would you like the Miami swizzle or would you prefer a little umbrella (recycled from Punkin's Cruise)?

while other bloggers are out having fun, i've acquired some "pet" crickets. anyone know how to take care of them?

sorry for the disconnect, just got to talk to my daughter who flipped her car end for end at 75mph today. She walked away unmarked.

Dodge Intrepid, btw, one h3ll of a good car, I'd say.

at any rate the accident was not her fault, she's pretty shaken up, and d@mn lucky to be alive.

I'd like the Miami swizzle, please, Med. Thanks.

Goodness, Wyo! You definitely need a drink! I'm so glad the daughter is ok. You should call Dodge and offer to do a commercial for them.

Indeed, she said the roof is mashed even with the trunk, all the glass is gone, as well as the front and rear bumpers.

amazing. God is good.

cg, I have a cat that takes care of any crickets that venture in my house. I recommend one highly. (Cat, that is.)

Wyo.....glad to hear the Wyoette is ok. A car can always be replaced. By the way, anybody know where I can get some shoes?

Wyo, I ask God every day to watch over my son as he drives off to school. Do we ever stop being parents?

wyo, that's amazing! so glad she's okay. a toast to dodge!!

ducky, i was actually serious about the pet and caring part but fortunatly have found websites devoted to just such useless information. did you know they like to eat catfood and you have to put cotton balls in their water so they won't drown?

cg, I had no clue. They say you learn something new every day, and this is it for me.

Wyo - Glad your girl is okay.

---- slides a 40 Yr. Double Macallan across the bar, and hands Ducky the Mojito w/ swizzle. (Makin' Siouxie proud in her absence)---

*throws up a prayer of thanks for Wyo*

Thanks, Med!

glad to be a source of useless info for you, ducky. great pic by the way.

Thanks to all for your concern and prayers, gotta go give a report to Mrs. Cowperson, as we'd not heard from Wyoette (Sarah) since she finished gettin' checked out at the hosp. I'll check back in later.

Aw, shucks. Thanks, cg.

*blushes*
