I dont think I could visit that town. When people asked me where I stayed, It would be too embarrasing.

Um, isn't that particular activity illegal in many states?

Silly name aside, that looks REALLY beautiful, even though I'm terrified of helicopters and thus couldn't stay there.

Strange thing is (I was in Banff for a bit) they don't pronounce the name like you would think. The word As* isn't even said. It's like a silent As*. Those wacky Canadians.
Posted by: Baltimore Kat | July 11, 2006 at 10:06 AM
Eh? It's pronounced "Iniboine?"
Posted by: Straw | July 11, 2006 at 10:08 AM
Canadiens have a silent As*? No wonder they look so bloated.

Campground choices are "Magog" and "Og." I think they're mentioned in the Bible. Either that or the "BC" cartoons.

Anyone remember the episode of "F-Troop" with the Banff referencs?
I haven't been able to pronounce it correctly since.

Do they have a Cinnibon in Assiniboine?
Posted by: Lisa Bisa Fo Fisa | July 11, 2006 at 10:52 AM
'cos when I'm on vaca I like Cinnibons

You'll go to Tim Horton's, young lady, and like it!
Posted by: Straw | July 11, 2006 at 10:56 AM
It's actually pronounced a-SIN-i-boine....

Better there than Pahrump...

in case anyone's interested, here's the source of the word
and here in Montana, the "as*" is not silent

But do they have room service?
Cuz if not, it's no vacation - you might as well stay home. (IMO)

From Toto's very interesting link:
Cantidada meant moldy people).
Also, this is totally a male-dominated group and the women can't even eat with the men - but I bet the men let them eat - um, never mind.

"There are also options to hike or ski 17 miles (28 km) to the lodge while your gear is flown in by helicopter"
Guin...I'm your kind of flyer; but if they offered me the above alternative, I might just decide I'm not so scared of planes after all (assuming they're snake-free)

El: snakes in the bed?
Posted by: Ann | July 11, 2006 at 12:44 PM
Exactly, Ann! :)

El and Ann, shame on you both!
Now, get back in the girlie room until we call for you.
*ducks flyin' shoes from all directions*

blurker, you need to find another bed for your snake....
Just a suggestion! :)
Posted by: Eleanor | July 11, 2006 at 05:35 PM
El, I would except that Mrs. Blurk knows how to use a shotgun. Quite well. And would.

When is F Troop coming out on DVD????
Posted by: Guin | July 11, 2006 at 08:08 PM
Guin...your wait is over.

The only laugh I ever got from "F Troop" came from, believe it or not, Dennis Miller, commenting on one of the Rambo movies:
"Stallone. Now there's the quintessential thespian, huh? I haven't seen depth in a character portrayal like that since... I gotta go back to Larry Storch on 'F Troop'."
It got a helluva laugh, really. Okay, the fact that I find this hysterical results from a combination of being way too young when "F Troop" was on the air, and being way too attuned to Dennis Miller's brand of humor.
It might also explain why my radio career was about 1/10 as successful as his talk-show career. *Goes to see if Netflix has the F Troop DVDs...*

While backpacking with a Sierra Club group in Banff National Park several years ago, we hiked to this lodge & had "high tea." (Remember Canada was a British colony once.) Having fancy pastries & tea in the middle of nowhere surrounded by amazing mountains was fantastic...even if you think the name is funny. Also, Mt Assiniboine has been featured in several movies ~ one about a bear with Elle MacPherson, Anthony Hopkins & one of the Baldwins.
