This was the "brainchild" of the owner. More like a brainfart.

Since when are corrugated iron, plastic bottles, and manhole covers "organic?" And since when can any of these materials be described as "invisible?"
Here in my little neighboring town of Wooster, MA, they are indeed very visible - all over I-190!
Posted by: WoosterGirl | May 17, 2006 at 04:44 PM
I'm not sure about the combination septic tank / swimming pool.

Yo, Mudz in da House!
I got mystery, fantasy,
ecological, sustainable,
contextual, invisible
manhole covers, solar power
in da shower every hour
dat da sun shine
charge my batteries / close my blinds
it's true I'm a git
a decrepit english twit
and I don't wanna step in it
so now I'm selling it
take my advice
pay da price
goin back to my crib in da sky
where all da bitches fly

A million and a half dollars would buy several sustainable villages in other parts of the world!

gotta love the one comment at the bottom:

Hey guys this house is totally brilliant. Take a look at http://www.channel4.com/4homes/microsites/S/stirling_prize/gallery_12_manser_cobtun_gallery.html.
Yes, it has got bathrooms, both in the American and British senses. It is beautiful, respects the surroundings and is good for the environment. The absurd price reflects the stupid prices Brits are prepared to pay for any real estate - don't say out loud that you could buy a sub-Saharan country for that sort of money or every City smooth boy will want to buy it just because they can.
err...sorry about that...I'll pour myself another one....

Hey, Dr., I live in Southern California. My small 3BR 2BA is "valued" at almost half a million without a view of the Severn river. We know about absurd prices!
Posted by: ScottMGS | May 17, 2006 at 05:29 PM
ScottMGS - I'm with you. I didn't even blink at the price. My dump is valued at over $900k. It makes more in a year than I do. (and no, I'm not accepting marriage proposals at this time)
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | May 17, 2006 at 05:35 PM
no marriage proposals? how about this kind:
hey baby - how 'bout we shack up and you take care of me?
Posted by: TC | May 17, 2006 at 05:44 PM
Ah, yes. Annie, you forgot to exclude indecent proposals.
Hmmm... Or maybe you didn't.
Posted by: ScottMGS | May 17, 2006 at 06:08 PM
TC - if I had a nickel for every time I fell for that line...oooh, look, a nickel!
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | May 17, 2006 at 06:14 PM
Since it's made of mud, he wouldn't even have to take his emotional support dog out to tinkle- the mud would just absorb it... ya think??

Constructed of "...railway sleepers..." WTD? Please tell me they don't have anything to do with homeless people...
Posted by: nannie | May 17, 2006 at 06:49 PM
Not live homeless people, Nannie. Feel better?

Since everyone "here" knows way more about computers than me, and I have been given many meaningful and helpful tutorials (and I know I'm wayyyy off topic here), but does anyone know how to restore the color to 256 here. Everytime I try to restart it it goes back to 16. "16" do you know what 16 does to your optical senses? The crap cam looks good! PLEASE HELP

Cobtun House is truly a one-off.
Anybody got a clue what that means? Mebbe British for one of a kind?
Posted by: daisymae | May 17, 2006 at 09:23 PM
Daisy: Yep. I've heard here in the colonies, too.
Posted by: ScottMGS | May 17, 2006 at 09:44 PM
r.e. "railway sleepers" ...
Sleepers is another name for "ties" or "crossties" -- the dealies that are placed perpendicular to the rails, to support it, often made of wood, though steel or reinforced concrete ties are more common now, for their strength and longer usable effectiveness ...
It (sleepers) was used in the USA during the earlier days of railroading, but the term (with that meaning) has fallen into disuse ...
Merely providin' TMI trivia ...

daisymae, when you find out what "one-off" means, gimme a shout, OK?
Those wacky Brits.
Posted by: slyeyes | May 17, 2006 at 10:40 PM
Fellow blogger -- That most likely means a problem with your video drivers. You'll need to go to the website for the particular model of video adapter you have in your computer (the most common ones these days are ATI, nVidia and maybe Intel if it's an on-board chip), and download the appropriate driver. Install that, following the instructions that are usually included either on the website or in a readme file with the download, and see how it goes.
Posted by: Wavey | May 17, 2006 at 10:43 PM
Daisymae: no clue, but thinking you're right-o, ol' chap. Here, over the pond, we refer to them as railroad ties, or "sim-ply," "ties." We're rather quaint in that way..."

wavey, ACU.

P.S. to the O.U., "dealies?"... either sounds like a porn film, a big truck, or WBAGNFARG... I'm betting on the former. Please let me know.
Posted by: obi wan | May 17, 2006 at 11:09 PM
"he decided to sell up after the death of his wife who helped him design it....." Yes, selling UP after the wife dies is a fabulous idea; Yes, yes, of course!

obi ' -
No, thingies (aka - dangly bits) is the porn flick dealy ... dealies/dealy is merely a shortenized version of whatchacallit, thingumabob or doohickey ... altho ... that last one could also be part of a porn film, if yer inta that sorta ... crapola ...

Different than selling "out"
Posted by: jan | May 18, 2006 at 12:38 AM
My "dump" in Vancouver (BC) is now valued at approx. $1.1 million (ridiculous) but last time I looked, no "manhole covers" were part of the structure. Given that manhole covers are generally the property of the municipalty (county) that actually buys and places them, how does this guy get off marketing them as part of the "package"?
Merely asking...
Posted by: AFKAT | May 18, 2006 at 01:56 AM
AFKAT - $1.1 million Canadian, right?

Snake venom is organic too!
[An organic compound is one that contains one or more carbon atoms (not carbon monoxide or dioxide).]

Correct, so is belladona, arsenic, digitalis, strychnine.
