MAKES SENSE TO US
According to this press release, a PETA activist is going to dress in a fur coat and drink from a toilet. This will prove.... something.

Hey - maybe this can be Britney's next gig... or how about Cher?
First, BTW?

Nice. That's hot! Its a metaphore for something only different.
Posted by: Lush Bimbo | October 11, 2005 at 03:32 PM
I always thought PETA people were full of crap. Now I know for sure.
Posted by: John | October 11, 2005 at 03:49 PM
I hope she flushes at least twice before getting a drink.

As a native Iowan, I have to ask: Why do this stunt in Iowa? Why not do it in China, since its a Chinese company that they're protesting against?
Oh, wait. Its because the Chinese govenrment will arrest their moronic a$$es and throw them into a work camp!
Posted by: Aunt Nancy | October 11, 2005 at 03:57 PM
It's in Des Moines! I am SO there.
Posted by: Jillywilly | October 11, 2005 at 03:57 PM
...The woman will then proceed to hump the leg of a nearby bystander and pee on the floor....
Posted by: elle | October 11, 2005 at 04:00 PM
This is starting to sound like an over 18 show... is there a cover charge?
Posted by: RR | October 11, 2005 at 04:03 PM
After drinking from the toilet, our dog always licked its (not it's) private parts for a while and then smelled other dogs' rears. I don't know how that relates to this story, other than they better be looking for a fairly limber activist.
Posted by: spinner8 | October 11, 2005 at 04:06 PM
Hopefully the toilet won't have one of those Clorox cleaning tablets in the tank. That would end up making more of a statement than the activist intended, I think.
Posted by: Jillywilly | October 11, 2005 at 04:06 PM
"the grand finale will be when a dozen fur-clad PETA activists will scoot butt-first across the square to escape arrest."
Posted by: insomniac | October 11, 2005 at 04:10 PM
Meanwhile, in a related story, this guy is an early leader in the 2008 Iowa caucuses with this guy as a running mate.
Posted by: spinner8 | October 11, 2005 at 04:11 PM
Why not dress up like lemmings and run off a cliff? That would be more useful. And, make a much more definative statement.
Posted by: SlickRick | October 11, 2005 at 04:18 PM
What she's saying is that people are dogs.
And dogs drink from toilets.
But even dogs would never ever ever eat meat. And, given a chance, dogs prefer peace with squirrels and cats.
See?
Oh, she might also be saying "Check out how effective my workout is!"

If they all start doing this, then there will be a new group formed. It will be called PETOPPTBA (People for the Ethical Treatment of People Pretending To Be Animals).
Sorry, but I just CANNOT get behind PETOPPBA's cause.

"...a PETA activist will don a full-length fur coat and engage in behavior normally associated with those who naturally wear fur—animals."
Drinking from a toilet? What a disappointment. We were expecting, er, mating activity.

I find Peta rather irritating, but I really hate needless suffering, even in animals. If you're gonna raise animals for fur, at least have the compassion to prevent their suffering.
*kick soapbox aside*
*stands up and reminds self to step off soapbox before kicking it over next time*

from the department of statistics I just made up... 18% of your DNA is the same as a banana's, so even vegetables are your kin! Do you discriminate against plants by eating them just because they have no nervous systems and are unable to make noise, and console yourself with saying, "It'll grow back." ?
Posted by: insomniac | October 11, 2005 at 04:35 PM
Insom - yes. Is that wrong?

Those silly tree huggers can just kiss my fatty liver
Posted by: ahhm Clem | October 11, 2005 at 04:45 PM
Liver kissing might require invasive surgery, dear friend.
Posted by: RR | October 11, 2005 at 04:49 PM
Ahh those wacky Peta people. I should go to KFC to pick up a bucket of chicken on my way to the protest.

I think this ad campaign will work better than peta's. I mean who wouldn't shun fur in order to see pamela anderson naked?
Posted by: Mad "engaged to weasel" Scientist | October 11, 2005 at 05:06 PM
ooops I see the naked pamela phone card campaign also belongs to PETA. Well it still makes more sense than drinking out of a toilet, but only just a smidgeon more.

Another headline on the People Eating Tasty Animals site:
.
" Havana Nights Star Promotes Safe Sex for Dogs and Cats "
.
Wait - why would he? - oh, FOR.
Posted by: sct72 | October 11, 2005 at 05:20 PM
I wonder if PETA is behind this
Posted by: Mad "engaged to weasel" Scientist | October 11, 2005 at 05:31 PM
Congratulations M"ETW"S - that is probably the most disgusting story I've ever read. Man-unit and crapping-in-police-car stories included.
Posted by: sct72 | October 11, 2005 at 05:37 PM
...a fur-clad woman on all fours will mimic what some family dogs have been doing for years...
Am I the only one that's turned on by that?
Posted by: TCK | October 11, 2005 at 05:41 PM
Sounds like poetic justice to me...
I mean... bear bile? *shudder*
Posted by: Mike "Mad's Dork" Weasel | October 11, 2005 at 06:04 PM
The thing is, they're making it sound like dogs don't want to drink out of the toilet. Which, as any dog owner who has carefully set out a bowl of fresh water only to come back to find it ignored, and tiolet water dribbled all over the floor knows, is not exactly accurate.

I hate to be a drag but I really didn't find this funny...In spite of the many inventions it has contributed to the world, China is stuck in the Dark Ages. Bears and tigers are just two of the animals killed for the black market -- because their paws are reputed to be effective in healing some malady or other. This makes me sick.
Hebrew law, which has been around much longer than PETA, requires that a creature killed for food be dispatched with a minimum of pain, to be certified kosher. Buddhism urges respect for all sentient beings.
Hey, I eat meat and I probably own some leather shoes, too. I just don't think it's asking too much to make sure an animal's death be painless.
Posted by: Candy Tutt | October 11, 2005 at 06:51 PM
Mad, I sent that in to Dave this morning too. Pretty gross, if perhaps poetic justice.
How come no one mentioned that Chinese Fur Farm WBAGNFARB?
spinner8: I thought he was the front runner for the Iowa vote.
Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | October 11, 2005 at 07:19 PM
Wait, so to prove how horrible it is to buy fur, PETA is going to buy fur?
And I'm against cruelty to animals, and used to support PETA until their campaigns turned into cruelty towards humans.
Posted by: Lizzy | October 11, 2005 at 07:27 PM
Jeff, somehow I just knew who would appear when I clicked on your link, but I did it anyway ... and got a big laugh when I was right ... tnx4 that ...
In other areas of this thread, PETA says (in the original item, if I read it correctly) that in China, " ...WHERE ANIMALS ARE NOT PROTECTED BY A SINGLE LAW ..." and then later on, in the "Bears devour keeper" story, it says that China has had regulations for the animal keeping industry since 1993 ...
Just another example of the carelessness and lies promoted by PETA and their ilk to further their own agenda ...
Now, if they were careful enough to be accurate, and truthful ... then I'd even consider listening to some of their preaching ... since they seem to think, however, that I'm as stupid as they are, my attention span for their party line is amazingly short ...
If/when I happen to take the skin off an animal, I make sure it's dead before I do ... I respect animals ... I do not respect PETA, partly because their "sentience" is subject to question, as it hovers around the level of gravel ...
Posted by: U.O | October 11, 2005 at 07:45 PM
... sorry about the soap box, gang ... back to our regularly scheduled insanity ...
Posted by: U.O | October 11, 2005 at 07:46 PM
The problem I have with PETA is that of perspective. To them, skinnng a live animal is on the same level of cruelty as eating a hamburger.
On a lighter note, I'm looking forward to the part when someone scratches the PETA person's back and her leg starts thumping...

PS "skinnng" wba bad nfarb, but a good one for a slinky...
Posted by: kj | October 11, 2005 at 09:27 PM
Cool :)
Posted by: dave | October 11, 2005 at 09:56 PM
Ah, yes, Jeff, your guy is the statistical front runner, but do you have a picture of him drinking out of a toilet like my candidate?
Posted by: spinner8 | October 11, 2005 at 10:33 PM
And if it gives you any indication of anything, when I did a google search for barry manilow and toilet, the first ten links were almost all pages of this blog.
Good work, everybody.

OMG! The influence that this gathering of minds has upon the world!
The mind simply reels at the implications ...
Posted by: U.O | October 11, 2005 at 10:49 PM
A human dressed as a dog drinking from a toilet is a disgrace to the canine race (breed, species or whatever). Having owned numerous dogs over the past 20+ years, I have never once seen one drink from the toilet. I think this is an urban myth.
Posted by: annie-git-yur-fun | October 11, 2005 at 11:58 PM
If the PETAn was attacked by, lets say, a rabid wolverine whilst drinking from the toilet, wouldn't the other PETAns in attendance have to wait until the wolverine had finished eating to intervene? In fact, they would probably have to physically restrain anyone trying to interrupt the animal's meal, right? Is there anything we can do to test this theory?
Posted by: bbescuela | October 12, 2005 at 12:22 AM
Two flushes before the demonstration would be a good idea, but would it be bad form to flush while the activist is drinking?
Dropping the lid probably isn't polite either, right?

Lizzy - Good point, wearing fur to protest fur? Are they going to wear leather shoes & eat steak at the same time too?
