Thank you Eleanor! I had been preparing for this moment (ie my first link) for a long time now, I hope you liked the hip-hop bunny.
Sly I really hope you'll come visit us European Moaties in December! I promise I won't do the cheek-kissing thing to you ;-)
Posted by: Marie | March 27, 2005 at 01:27 PM
Was there some discussion several Moats ago about the answer to the universe being "42."
If so, those in the discussion should enjoy this.
*crosses fingers that the registration thing was worked out.*
*leaves to go take that nap*
Posted by: slyeyes | March 27, 2005 at 01:27 PM
Marie, 2 cheeks I don't mind. It's all 4 that concern me.
*In the event there's a language bugaboo at work here, we also refer to each side of the buttock as a "cheek".*
Posted by: slyeyes | March 27, 2005 at 01:30 PM
Eleanor, you can add the following:
Inventor of the Clapper Ogasmatron® - I take special pride in that one.
See what I do for the fairer sexes?
Posted by: kibby F5™ | March 27, 2005 at 01:34 PM
Of course! I had forgotten the other meaning of cheeks... thanks for reminding me Sly. I thought you meant that kissing twice every cheek was stupid (which would be true, and it's also a bit ridiculous IMHO)
Posted by: Marie | March 27, 2005 at 01:37 PM
Sly, I didn't find anything about the answer or '42' on the NY Times site.
Posted by: Marvin | Paranoid Android | March 27, 2005 at 01:42 PM
OK, back after an afternoon with too much food and evil cousins who markered swastikas on my face when I fell asleep. Fortunately, the younger ones misread "NAZI" as "NA2T" and haven't been scarred for life.
Heh. Heh. Heh. I've been in a dorm for a year. I know the pranks. The war is on, now! :-)
I love my family.
Posted by: Alex | March 27, 2005 at 02:04 PM
Marvin, I think sly meant that the picture on the right showed the back of a basketball player whose number was 42- now if we just knew the question!

ANNOUNCEMENT!
I'm putting my house up for sale:
First there was a possum in the garage! -
then Cute Guy told me I had coyote poop on my driveway!
Now - I just saw a mouse strolling across my patio - what's up with that?!?!?

Slyeyes, your daughter made a BRILLIANT choice of husband! I wonder where she got her taste and disernment from? ;) He sounds like a wonderful young man and your daughter obviously feels just as deeply about education and advancement for less fortunate kids. You must be bursting with pride.
Posted by: Peri | March 27, 2005 at 02:39 PM
Eleanor, figured if I was going to get hammered with groping I might as well be remembered for something good too.
Off-setting karma?

*doesn't say anything*
Posted by: Marvin | Paranoid Android | March 27, 2005 at 02:50 PM
Marvin - you waited too long, were LTTG and they changed the picture - so lose the smugness!
kibby - you are the man!!! You want an offset, you have an offset! furthermore, I've never been very imppressed with modesty to begin with - if you're good at something what is there to be modest about, IMO! Example: Joe Namath!!!
pssst kibby -- (whispers) some new guy over on the MB is e-mailing me - prepare the Howitzer, just in case...,
Posted by: Eleanor | March 27, 2005 at 03:28 PM
p.s. kibby - Marie said she very much enjoyed the "pinning on the HTML badge ceremony!"
Posted by: Eleanor | March 27, 2005 at 03:30 PM
Marvin, the photo WAS of a UNC player and a Wisconsin player; each were No. 42.
Thanks, Peri and El. Yes, I very much approve of my daughter's choice of husband. Even if he did tie up my laptop most of the day. I thought he was working on his studies. Then I found out he worked on that for only an hour. The rest of the time he was building his fantasy baseball team!

I have entirely tooooooo much toooooo say and not enough time tooooooo say it.
But I will say this, cuz I have a feeling you guys might be wanting to know. The wife is not as bad as first expected, but is scheduled to go back April 5th for a final determination. So the surgery will most likely be at the end of April, first of May. Still not certain of anything.
Speaking of still not certain of anything, I am in a HUGE Fekin ISSUE now with the Floor Dicks. It is now Sunday night and they are not finished.
Oh yeah, It was quite a memorable Easter, what with me bitchin out the contractor today for not doing what he said or when he said.
Anyway. I really have to run. My kids are finally coming home and we have to kinda of put back what was home.
If none of this makes any sense, please reread in the morning.
Thank you. And if you don'r like that crappy answer, I've looked up enough tooooo know that you can Kiss my
Grits. ;)

First all of you taught me Yahoo chat - and now no one's doing that and everyones' IMing - hmmph!
No, no - don't try to teach me - I just want to pout for a while! :)
Posted by: Eleanor | March 27, 2005 at 04:44 PM
El, my team was either Illinois or Kentucky.
I was born in Kentucky, one daughter goes to school there (not at UK); but I lived in Illinois for 30 years.
Meghan called when she got back to school and said everyone is pretty down about the loss. I naively said that Louisville was still in it. She pointed out that UK fans are NOT Louisville fans. Big rift there.
Hey, Lab, you a Louisville fan?
Posted by: slyeyes | March 27, 2005 at 04:46 PM
I'll teach even during a nice pout eleanor. Do you have yahoo messenger?
Posted by: wolfie | March 27, 2005 at 04:47 PM
Mr. Fisher, I'm keeping good thoughts for you guys. I had several friends go through that the year they had babies, and all had good results.
I need to finish cleaning the kitchen; but I'm almost too tired to do it.
And I've got to get geared up to go back to work tomorrow. Vacation's almost over, but at least that means no more shopping!
Posted by: slyeyes | March 27, 2005 at 04:52 PM
Jeff, he's 6'4". That photo was initially taken for an earlier article about him. He joked that it was taken with me in mind so everyone else had the same view of him as I.
Posted by: slyeyes | March 27, 2005 at 05:03 PM
sly - I have never known anyone who has cleaned while on their vacation as much as you have! I bet you'll be glad to go back to work! I'm exhausted just reading everything you've done!
Mr. Meyerson: You can trash The Donald, but if I were you, I'd be really careful what you say about Joe Willie White Shoes - at least when I'm around!

Oh Jeff, BTW - I received an answer from Susan too - *neener*
And I thought it was on from noon to 1p.m., which would be 9 to 10a.m. out here in su.so.ca. - am I wrong?

Where is everyone??
Just got back from dinner at the EX in-laws. It was nice except for "the brother". Ugh. He apparently has boycotted shampoo....and toothpaste. And he thinks he's da MAN. And he tried (again) to pick me up. ewwwwwwwwwwwww.
Posted by: Zoodle | March 27, 2005 at 06:07 PM
sly, sounds like you've got one awesome son-in-law. It's good to know that we still have people like that out there who are willing to help. :-)
Oh, drat. I'm bored, and I don't have anything to light on fire. Now what?
*flicks lighter*
Wait a sec...I bought a book for a reason. Nevermind.

I'm in Kansas again, for less than 24 hours. Less than 12 hours actually. My flight takes off at 7 am tomorrow from KCI, which is on the Missouri side. Stopover in Charlotte, then onto Hartford, where I will be picked up and taken to Amherst. It'll be the first time I've ever been in the northeast; the closest I've come so far is Orlando or Door County, WI.
However, I have been to Europe. 5 times in fact. Each of the last 5 summers. Once with my German class, three times with choirs on tour and last summer I was in Germany the whole time doing research. That's actually where I was when I first started posting to the MOAT waaaaaaay back on the original. Jeff, your trip to Munich sounded exactly like the middle part of my German class's trip... Dachau, Hofbrauhaus, Linderhof, der Englischer Garten... we even took a one-day trip to Salzburg, complete with a tour of the salt mines! *sigh*
Of course, that was back when I didn't drink. Luckily, I have returned to Germany and Austria since then to enjoy the bier brewed under the Reinheitsgebot.

I'm back from a full-on day. It's just after 8pm Monday here and I'm tired already. I have to go to work tomorrow, but I promise to get up early and listen to Susan. This will NOT happen once you "spring forward" next week, as that would mean that I would have to get up at 4 am *theatrical shudder*. That is far too early. There shouldn't be a 4 in the AM. It should be exclusively an afternoon thing. I'm just saying.
Mr Fishair.. so glad your wife is doing well. Long may she be healthy and happy.
Bis.. Enjoy the trip!! I've been as far as Australia. Victoria, Sydney and Brisbane/Gold Coast. That's like Americans going to Canada or vice versa. I have a lot of family there though, so there's always somewhere to stay for free or the next best thing.
Sly .. your daughter and son in law sound amazing. I'd be so proud, I'd just about burst at the seams if I were you.
Marie... funny link!! And congrats on the badge!! It looks good!!
El.. I'd sell up too. Get one of those sonic pest things first so that the buyers don't know about the little roof/sub-floor residents. I live upstairs and I don't have problems like that. Mice have trouble getting up open staircases.
Sandy... I may have loved Northern Exposure, but I don't want to live in Alaska any more. I like the look of the warmer southern states. The ones without bears that visit your trailers.
kibby... I had something to say but it's gone again. That happens to me a lot. so...

you know, if you multiply 2 x 6 x 05 (Marvins post nubmer)
and subtract the day of the original post
-12 &
-29
and multiply by the year (o4)
subtract todays date, 28
and then subtract 6 (simply a random number)
you get 42.
Just sayin.

Good morning everyone from su.so.ca. - weather reporters are happy again, warm week ahead, people will stop sending them hate mail!
Very frightening: sandy's bear story -
*note to self* do not visit sandy or go to Alaska at all*
Hey Jeff, what about the Glockenspiel (sp?)- and the bakery around the corner!
On the day we went to the English Garden the concierge at the hotel told us how to get there and that the trains were free that day because it was a national holiday - what is the holiday, I asked? He replied, "Who knows, it's always something!"
Susan's radio station is on, it's 7:40 here in so.ca. and I am ready for the request hour - will she mention our names, do you think, or just play our songs? We'll have to wait and see!

There used to be a wings place in Clearwater FL called Knockers... very much like Hooters.
Glockenspiel's cool. And "which" corner? Actually, don't think I ever visited a bakery at Marienplazt. Schneider Brauhaus near Marinplatz, sure! And the outdoor food market there.
Posted by: kibby F5™ | March 28, 2005 at 07:27 AM
Less than a half hour..
No, I'm not nervous, thinking of people all over listening...
Pretty much all the requests I have so far are emails and such from ya'll...nothing really from local people, but then, they are not too likely to call.
My boss wants me to print out the emails I get with requests...if she only knew where all they were from.
Still need to get caught up here...maybe later.
Off to find music.

kibby - with the Glockenspiel on your left, walk to the first side street on your left, turn left and most wonderful bakery is a few doors down on your right if you go, let me know and I'll send you my address so you can send me stuff!
One time when my brother was in Vienna he sent me Sachertorte from the Hotel Sacher - not though "mit schlag" - I had to add that myself!
Susan - don't tell your boss that we're all from the Moat - just let him think that thanks to you, WCRE has an international following!!!

Cheraw Hunt Gun & Jewelry
Here in the Eastern (and very red-neck) part of our county - El Cajon - we have a combination Liquor Store/Gun Shop!! Now that's scary!
*doesn't want to be one-upped*
I've eaten Sachertorte at the Hotel Sacher too, and, IMO the reason you have to have it "mit schlag" is because it's very dry - good, but dry!
We also went to the Opera and saw "The Merry Widow" -
Susan's off to a good start - Changes in Latitude!

Sandy... if Hugh Hefner is still pulling women, I guess your dog can to. Instead of castration, you could always just give him a vasectomy. Then you wouldn't have to follow him around with a box of condoms. Very few 78 year olds like to take their mothers with them on dates.
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 28, 2005 at 09:17 AM
This weekend bumped me back into second place in the MOATies tournament, tied with C-bol. Yay!
Higgy is still in first place, all by himself. Go Higgy!
Lab and Bismuth are tied for fourth, while Marvin and Alex have dropped to seventh, sorry boys!
Eleanor, now that KY is out, why not switch to rooting for one of your homies? Candice Wiggins of San Diego is the 18-yr-old star for Stanford this year. She won not only the Pac 10 Freshman of the Year, she also won Player of the Year! All that and gorgeous, too.
Stanford knocked out UConn yesterday and they face Michigan State (I think) in the Elite Eight on Tues.
Usually I hate Stanford because they always beat my team (Washington) but I'm rooting for the Pac 10 in this tournament.

Jeff, you seem to be obsessing over the "sexual enhancement ad" on the radio station - Jackie will be better soon!

Hehheh! I've been obsessing over the "sexual enhancement ads" also.
I was werking and MISSED the noon hour on the station. Argh!
Did Susan play my Sarah McLachlan?

Hmmmmmmm... sacher torte mit schlag...
*brings back good memories of Vienna trips*
Today I can't manage to listen to Susan's radio and I missed "You can call me Al" I'm so disappointed
Hope you get better soon Blogchik!

Jeff... what about the lines of the song where Ronan Keating is missing his gf and laments
'cause I've been bereaving
since you've been leaving
With grammar like that, I'd be leaving too. I hate that entire song (not a huge fan of his anyway) just because of those lines. You cannot be in a process of being bereaved. You either are or you aren't. I may just find him and shoot him now.

Just received my newsletter from The Daily Show - repeats all week - bummer!
However, to help get us through, Jon's Daily quote:
Jon on King Tut:
"To solve the mystery of King Tut's death, a team transported his remains to a
hospital for a CAT scan -- remarkable for many reasons, most notably that it's
not covered by Tut's HMO. Apparently, anything that happened over 3000 years
ago? A 'pre-existing condition.'"

Jeff: I like the "Eyes" Selection; all relatives. Don't tell her you heard it from me, but Lyin' Eyes is a little b!tch.

El...*snork*
originally typed *snork* El. Then read it. Maybe not. Or maybe.

Jeff.. maybe if everyone on the Moat sends it in (giving credit to sandy of course!!). 30 or 40 dog condom emails are difficult to ignore.. even in an inbox as busy as judi's.

One of my personal favorites:
I'm Never Gonna Dance Again, Guilty Feet Have Got No Rhythm and the fact that it was by Wham only made it all the more precious!
Let's Hear it For the Boys!! too cool!
The Boys of the Moat, that is!!!!

I have to leave a little early for work, so I can't send it in right now... I will do so when I get home (if you haven't already been blogged by our efforts.)
*loves everyone a Chocolate Moatini made from left over easter eggs.*
See ya!

Nice suggestion, Kaf! I'm sure it will work, especially if everyone signs it from Claire Martin! :-)
