I'm off...for now. Some good stuff lined up for the evening.
I however, have a church service to attend in a while...Maundy Thursday.
It just doesn't seem right that Easter is right around the corner so early.

Ran across my Scuba gear, which includes some diving knives.
That reminds me, Kibby. I've been meaning to ask you. Do you use knives anymore for diving? I used to take mine, but after 9/11, I quit due to airport hassles.
I've got a "pinger" for my tank for getting attention of a diving buddy.... but I just liked having a knife with me down there. Truthfully, never needed one other than "pinging" the tank.

*looks up from washing Neo's feet*
Oh yah...it's pretty cool.
*goes back to catch up*
Posted by: Joshkr | March 24, 2005 at 01:40 PM
I guess Susan's gone, but I'm having some "noise" on the station.
What does that mean, Eleanor?
Me: It's just not very clear or sharp, either the music or the talking.
Oh.
I scrolled up to see what the problem sly was having was, but she had "cross talk", so I guess not -
Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about and, if so, are you having the same problem?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Posted by: Eleanor | March 24, 2005 at 01:49 PM
*waving at Eleanor*
I can't get the station to stream at all... is that similar to what you're getting?
No?
Oh..
*goes back to being sad*
Posted by: Di | March 24, 2005 at 01:53 PM
El, I had turned it off and was listening to Ray Charles.
But I'm listening to it now and it's distorted. Before, I was hearing background noise. I don't know if what I'm hearing is because I'm on a laptop; but it sounds as though the music is coming through water.
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 01:59 PM
I can hear it Di - it's just sort of blurry - and they're playing Jack and Diane - bummer!
What does that mean, that it won't "stream"?
*goes to sit with Di and offer comfort*
Posted by: Eleanor | March 24, 2005 at 02:00 PM
yes, sly - exactly! So I guess it's not just me!
*gives sly Articulate Award for the Day*
Guess what - it's raining! How novel! ugh!
Posted by: Eleanor | March 24, 2005 at 02:02 PM
Hey sly, yep, still carry a knife. Mine's one that straps to the ankle. Friends have ones that clip to shoulder straps of the BCD. And you can put it in the check baggage, just let them know it's there. Well, I've done that over here to Egypt anyhow. A quick call to the airport security guys should clear that up.
I've never needed it either, but wouldn't want to be in the position where I did, and didn't have it because of an airport scare.

*gets out geezer badge*
Back in the day when I was in radio, at a certain time in the evening -- can't remember when that was -- smaller radio stations went through a P&P -- Power & Pattern change. They would cut back on their signal and change the direction in which it went direction. That was so the big-ass 50,000 watters like WGN Chicago and KMOX St. Louis could send out their signals further. Truckers liked that.
ANYWAY, I don't know if P&P still exists, or if WCRE does that. That's what I first thought of causing that; but I don't see how that would affect something being sent digitally.

OK, you all who are more uptodate on geek speak, quit laughing at my post.

Don't anyone criticize my editing skills either!!
I'm multi-taking here!
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 02:09 PM
Radio, especially AM ones, could cut their power because the signal transmits better after sunset. The cut in power reduced the electrical bill without necessarily affecting the tranmission area.
One reason you could pick up the bigger stations is because of "atmospheric skip" where the signal hits a spot in the sky and bounces back down. Skips off a body of water works too.
So big 50 KWers, like Chicago, could travel hundreds of miles rather than the tens of miles they would in the daytime.
The lower the signal frequency the more effective the skip. And sometimes you could get 'double skips', but that usually is limited to Shortwave.
Susan was saying the audio feed for what we're listening to is supplied by an AM radio in the studio. (?) So, any distortion/crosstalk/whatever is probably coming from the AM radio. They have plans to pull the audio (for us) before it hits the transmitter. This requires a longer cable that they don't have yet.

Thanks, Kibby. The last couple of times I went, I almost packed it, and then didn't because I've never needed it and like I said, didn't want hassles.
But then when I was diving, I felt uneasy without it. I'm really wanting to go to the Blue Hole next spring and DO want it there.
Oddly enough, I've found that it's my gloves that have been banned by the diving locations because they don't want anyone breaking off coral; which I would not do!
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 02:19 PM
yeah, what Kibby said. That's what I meant.
*cough*
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 02:21 PM
I've never heard of gloves being banned. But at least the airline security wasn't the ones. Better to have to leave the gloves on the boat/dive shop than NOT have a knife.
I've never dived with gloves either so don't know what it's like. I usually have a 5 mm suit and sometimes combine the 'shortie' with the bib-pants. That gives me double upper protection when needed.
Posted by: kibby F5™ | March 24, 2005 at 02:28 PM
sly, sounds like a bad cough. Sure that basement's not to blame? Damp, dusty, mildew?
Posted by: kibby F5™ | March 24, 2005 at 02:33 PM
For me, diving with gloves is a chick thing. Don't want to mess up the manicure. Also, I was diving in a quarry one time, and fish were attracted to our bubbles. I pointed that out to my friend, and when I pointed, the fish struck at my fingernails. The polish at the time was hot pink.
Never had a problem since, though. But yea, I'd rather do without gloves than a knife.
From now on, I'm packin'. Mine are also on an ankle strap -- but I do like that idea of the ones that clip to the BCD.

I just opened a My Little Pony Carring case --- and found 6 naked Barbies!
Maybe I should send them to Sophie for her naked Barbie collection.
Is it written somewhere that all Barbies should be naked?
'Night, Kibby.

Oh, dear. I haven't been on the MB all day. It appears there was a lot going on.
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 03:07 PM
Sly.. I think the exact legal terminology is
Any and all Barbie's must own at least 10 different registered ipso facto trademarked outfits and two major accessories, including the Barbie DreamHouse, DreamCar, DreamOffice DreamBar and DreamRehab Center (this is per doll, not for a total collection). None of these outfits may stay on the doll for more than 30 consecutive seconds (this is good practice for the Barbie DreamProm) and one of each pair of shoes/pumps/boots must be lost on opening of clothing packages. Combs, hairties, handbags and other accessories should be placed under sofa cushions for parents to sit on at a later date. Henceforth, ipso facto and corpus delecti.

I went to Carl Hiaasen's column to see if he had anything to say yet about the Terri Schiavo case. Since Gov. Bush is wanting the Dept. of Children and Family Services to take custody of her -- and with the DCFS's track record in Florida, I figured he'd have SOMETHING to say. He tends to skewer them.
He hasn't written anything -- yet, but I have faith that he will.
However, he DID write this column recently after the birth of his grandchild.
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 04:12 PM
aaawwww sly.. that's really sweet.
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 24, 2005 at 04:25 PM
sly - good Carl Hiaasen column - thanks.
Re West Wing: I thought last night was one of their better shows - Alan Alda is such a great actor, IMO - Jimmy Smits of corse is a hottie, but I haven't been too taken with his character in this role - but if Alda becomes the Pres then what will happen to Josh (my favorite) and the others????
sandy - I guess I'd rather kvetch than be the other thing - mainly because I can spell kvetch without looking it up!
Speaking of kvetching, I made a bowl of Tomato soup because I was soooo cold, and I smashed up too many saltines in it and it's pretty unappetizing - but I'll probablly eat it anyway - yuk!
Posted by: Eleanor | March 24, 2005 at 04:31 PM
ugh El..
but I'm exactly the same. I'd rather eat something than throw it out. I can't waste food. That's why food courts and restaurants drive me BATTY!! I just want to yell at people "If you're not going to eat it, you could have made it for half the price at home!!"
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 24, 2005 at 04:59 PM

Wow -- Wisconsin is trying to make a game of it tonight...now that there's 7 minutes left.
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 05:11 PM
That's the trouble with basketball, IMO - no on really plays until the last 5 minutes or so!
The McDonald's thing was ery funny - favorite line: "this toilet could be famous" -
RE NCAA - I didn't know the Moatettes could play.
I pick Kentucky - unless they've already lost - if so, someone get back to me -

*sneaking in, while putting off doing the news*
Hi all!
Need to re-read everything from earlier, maybe tomorrow...but need to find news now.
The comments on the quality of the broadcast, yes. I apparently lowered power right about the time the fuzzy signal started...I'll go check the internet feed itself and maybe tweak it a bit...
So many things to say, and so little time.
*sneaking back out to record*

Apparently I'm the only one who picked Washington to beat Louisville. I took a precipitous drop to 7th place while the rest of you stayed put. :-(
But just you wait--there are other games being played this evening...
Posted by: sandy beach | March 24, 2005 at 06:35 PM
wolfie... what were you using? and where can I get some?
(some of what you were using on Marvin.. get your minds out of the gutters!!)
PS.. all offers for the other some can be sent to my agent.

Uummm.. A very.. vigorous game of tag I think
*adjusts halo*
Only other thing I'm using at the moment is some cheap red. But I'd be happy to share.
Posted by: wolfie | March 24, 2005 at 06:41 PM
I have some cheap white. Do we drink them separately or share and have a large glass of cheap pink?
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 24, 2005 at 06:51 PM
Yeah, I have a feeling my team is going down (in a bad way) before evenreaching the Final Four.
Posted by: underwatertag | March 24, 2005 at 06:55 PM
Cheap pink definately. Cept I might have finished off most of the red already.
*passes you the bottle*
Is cheap pink considered tacky with a meatball sub?

OOOooo.. nice simulpost Marvin. Was it good for you too?
Posted by: WorkingOnnaTagButIveBeenDrinkin | March 24, 2005 at 07:01 PM

Always, wolfie!
Posted by: Marvin | Paranoid Android | March 24, 2005 at 07:10 PM
Depends on where you got your meatball sub from wolfie. Your higher class sub prefers a Moatini or at a minimum, Killer Coffee shots. Pink is good with most meatball subs, though.
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 24, 2005 at 07:19 PM
I made it myself. With homemade meatballs and homemade sauce. I did not however, make the mozzarella nor the bread. Or even the wine.
Posted by: wolfieTageroooni | March 24, 2005 at 07:22 PM
I think the point here is that with sufficient pink... everything is good.
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 24, 2005 at 07:28 PM
Well, HRH Princess Meghan has returned to the palace.
She's over on the other couch with her laptop carrying on 5 IM conversations at once.
I asked her if she ever posted a message in the wrong conversation.
She looked up and said "why would I do that?"
I changed the conversation.
Posted by: slyeyes | March 24, 2005 at 07:39 PM
Just remember... it's not easy being perfect all the time. I've had it done to me once. Well, sorta kinda. I had 2 IMs going with friends.. one male.. one female. The female had a thing for the male but vice versa didn't apply. He liked her, but he didn't LIKE her. Anyway, he was joking with me about getting married (we're just friends with a lowercase f and no benefits)... and posted it in HER IM... He was very drunk at the time. She hasn't talked to me since, and I rarely am online at the same time as him. Damn shame really they were both very funny people.
Wolfie... the sub sounds amazing. Definitely Moatini-worthy. Pink is good too though
Posted by: Kafaleni | March 24, 2005 at 08:05 PM
When I've tried to talk to her, I get distracted "uh hum's".
So I IM'ed her. "Hello -- your mother is over on the other couch wanting to talk to you"
She laughed and went back to her IMing.

Posted by: ButtButteredTagaroni | March 24, 2005 at 08:20 PM
It's looking good; more organized.
HRH PM has pencilled me in for 9 to 9:30 tomorrow morning.
It's gonna take longer than that. I mainly want her to help me carry stuff out to the dumpsters, and she has to go through all of her stuff; books, photographs, CD's. I'm sure she no longer wants an Ace of Base CD, Eric Carmen, Michael (ewww) Jackson, etc.
In fact, I just now asked her if she would want her Eric Carmen CD and she wrinkled her nose and asked "Who's that?"
But then, maybe that was Jenni's CD.
