CHRISTMAS IS COMING

And no gift says "Peace On Earth" like this gift.

(Thanks to Claire Martin)

*GROSSOUT WARNING*
If you were offered this opportunity, would you have taken it?
Me neither.
*/WARNING*

Um, I don't think so, Kaf.

I watched one of Nigella's shows on food network and have decided that she got a show simply because of her accent. The food she made was dull.

Ina garten da vida!

Oh, and my new fresh peanut butter tastes heavenly with my seedless black raspberry preserves. Just thought you'd all like to know that.

*gets the lead out*

*uses it to scribble on the Moat bathroom stall*

LeetWood Snack tune -

Leetie - you
is much more clever than a stray shoe
Cows and I ….. always say things
like
Hey, you’re my next meal

(groove to bass line here)

Vote to grow your own hay
Grow your own hay
You can call it Oregano, whatcha say?
Vote to grow your own hay
I said
Grow your own hay

and did you slip in a "Vag" when I wasn't looking ??

(Rita, found it and replied; thanks!)

oh my.

*throws another dart*

yeah i know, you'd think i drank my breakfast and lunch.

OUCH!

I just got all flustered at your last question. ;)

oops. Sorry, Fish; seems I just voted for you.

*pulls Fish's dart* Better stick a bandaid over that or your lunch will leak out.

DDi- Pumpkin vines actually have beautiul blooms before the pumpkins start to grow. I think if you pinched the flowers off when they started to die the vines would look very nice in the garden. But if you let them grow unchecked they will take over the whole garden!

Jeter won because of his muppet head

Alton Brown- He usually films shopping in one of the Kroger's in Atlanta. Kroger's are everywhere in Atlanta. We had nicknames for them all.
Crime kroger, yuppie kroger, rainbow kroger, and Brown kroger for Alton.

Neo--cye again! Thanks!

We had a pumpkin vine once that climbed a not-so-very-nearby evergreen tree. A few little tiny pumpkins hung from the tree like Christmas ornaments.

Leetie.. Nigella does do some very "English" food, but I have seen her make some quite amazing stuff, too.. although personal taste makes a huge difference - her recipes don't appeal to everyone.. also, her father was a well-known British politician, so she may have had a bit of a headstart, socially speaking.

hey:)

Hi, Bangi! [[[hug]]]

{{{Bangi!!}}}

Hi sweetie! Have a Coke!

Bangi! *smooch*

Bangi!!! **hugs**

Leetie- I have issues with the "Don't Vote" quiz scoring system. In the quiz, saying "I don't know" is 0 points, as is a wrong answer. Admitting that I don't recognize Rush Limbaugh's face (you know, Rush the RADIO talk show host) should be a lesser evil than thinking Martin Sheen is the real president.

And anyone who thinks Madonna is a senator should just be given their emigration papers.

I totally agree.
And I scored a "C." :)

Wurm: please cye

Hi Bangi!

I only missed two; the guy who is to be the next Secretary of the UN or whatever. said he was Ahito (sp?) and is the emporer of Japan.

But I did get the rest of them right. I got a 96%, and was told to go vote.

Twice.

hey, i got 96% and i live in west virginia!

I agree with their principle. But I am about as un-politically aware as is possible. And I got a B just because I get lucky on tests.

*wishes she could get lucky other places*

*throws another dart*

You mean that W-by-God-V has elections???

owww
who threw that at me?

Blogchik, my friend Steve loves RR the EVOO Queen and it's not for her cooking prowess, so draw your own conclusions.

Wurm, that would do it (the Antarctica thing). It was 36 here this morning and was cool but invigorating when we were out. It's sunny and a little brisk, a perfect autumn day.

Jackie can't believe you're all still talking about TFN for a second day (and Lab isn't even here!). Tyler Florence did some recipes for Applebee's (supposedly) and certainly does TV and radio ads for them.

I'm with Kaf on one thing, however: LOVE The Iron Chef, though I have to watch it when Jackie isn't around.

I laughed at the political ad. I'm a good guy. I believe.. (insert platitudes here). My opponent wants to slaughter all firstborn sons and kick puppies for practice. He will be bringing his cauldron and ouija board to the office.

Some of them are either laugh or kick in the screen, Kaf. "Bob Menendez cavorts naked with organized crime bosses, sold his firstborn for crack money and plans to give your social security money to illegal aliens, who he is helping dig a tunnel under the border."

The social security thing is actually in the ad.

"I'm Tom Kean, Junior, as in Tom Kean, highly respected former Governor, get it? I've never done anything in my life but life off daddy's money and reputation - did I mention daddy is Tom Kean? - so you should vote for me, the son and heir or Tom Kean, or Bob Menendez will suck your blood and sell your wife's @ss on eBay. I - Tom Kean, Jr. - approve this message."

Jeff??? huh??
(i didnt understand the post)

They say I should vote. I got the Japanese guy wrong.

But the problem is, if a person votes without even knowing what the issues are or anything about the candidates, he or she is just blindly throwing darts at the problems.

Neo, when in doubt I suggest you follow my father's suggestion: anyone who is IN now, vote OUT.

Period.

Jeter won because of his muppet head.

How did I know Mad would say that?

Kaf, IMHO anyone named Nigel who would name his daughter Nigella deserves horsewhipping.

Whoops, I guess I should have read sly's answer first, then I would have gotten 100!

{{{Bangi!!!}}}

Ok, here's a better voting quiz.

Bangi, that was my parody version of the very sleazy political ads being run here. New York has no competitive races but unfortunately we get the New Jersey political ads. Menendez is the Senator (appointed last year) and Kean is running against him and running terribly slimy ads.

On Leetie's second quiz I got:

You scored the following on the PoliticsMatch questions:

Personal Score 85%
Economic Score 21%

Where You Fit In

Where your Personal score meets your Economic score on the grid below is your political philosophy. Based on the above score, you are a Hard-Core Liberal

I wouldn't say that.

Ok everybody. Stop talking about Food Network. Instead, go over to Overheard in NY and copy and paste a post here. That *always* starts a lively conversation.

and the rockets' red glare...

*pouts*

But we were just getting warmed up Eleanor! Can we just talk about FN for another day or two? PLEASE? And by the way, are we there yet? I have to go potty! Leetie told me to pull her finger!

I took your 2nd quiz, Leetie.

Came out just as I suspected it would. :)

Leetie- got it, thanks. CYE.

My score on the 2nd quiz (political philosophy)

Personal Score 90%
Economic Score 27%

Where You Fit In
Where your Personal score meets your Economic score on the grid below is your political philosophy. Based on the above score, you are a Hard-Core Liberal.

Hmmm...I would consider myself more of a liberally-minded independent, but yeah, I'm out there on the left.

we get the ohio and kentucky ads ,as well...
You mean that W-by-God-V has elections???

Posted by: rita | 03:09 PM on November 3, 2006

sure we do! and iffen there's two folks in a race, sometimes we'll count the votes! a 'coal baron' has bought up a bunch of ads, urging people to vote republican 'for the sake of the children' (i guess when your job involves leveling mountains, subtlety is not your strong point), two local republicans wrote an editorial in the paper saying 'we didn't ask for this guy's help'...

eeek - we@ther.c0m said it is going to be 25 tonight - brrr.

I Я outta here - see you later this weekend.

Based on the above score, you are a Hard-Core Liberal

I wouldn't say that.

??

Seriously?

I have never seen Lawson on TV, but I've read about her show. Is Nigella supposed to be pronounced NYgella or NihGELla?

I voted the four times I could in Argieland. The place is insane about politics. I think a five-year-old there could identify at least a couple of politicians. I voted to keep the bad guys away. Hopefully forever. Family members had to go into exile in the 70s, and I really don't want anything like the war to happen again. (For this reason, it's difficult for me to understand the logic behind not voting, even in stable democracies.)

Voting is obligatory in Argie, by the way, but I'd have voted anyway even if it weren't.

I would LOVE to share the heat of French Guiana with you all. Sadly, it's not possible. :( Wish you guys could send me snow in return.

What was today's playlist? It sounds like there were a lot of old favorites.

From overheard in NY:

Guy #1: What's up with all these storms and tornadoes?
Guy #2: God is coming soon.
Guy #1: I know, but ....

--Campus Rd, Brooklyn College

Things are going to be very interested if the Rapture starts in Brooklyn.

Er, interestING.

I gots lots of grammar! Lots and lotter.

I sent the quiz to my sister in San Jose and she said that she should NOT be voting either.

Sly, I guess I'm liberal in some things but I guess I don't think of myself that way in everything. Lately I find myself moving more towards the libertarian point of view. Or what Wurm said, though I am definitely a Democrat, for my sins.

Friday!!!

Down to 28 is expected tonight. Brrrrrrrr.

The playlist...since I forgot earlier...

Friday 11-3-06 All Request Lunch Hour
News
“Oh Pretty Woman” Roy Orbison
------
“Don’t You Want Me” Human League
“Go All The Way” Raspberries
------
“You Sexy Thing” Hot Chocolate

“Feelin’ Alright” Joe Cocker
“Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” Air Supply

From Overheard in the Office, more people who *definitely* should not be voting:

Guy: Are you a Republican?
Girl: No, I am a Demonican.
Guy: You mean Democrat?
Girl: Let's change the subject.
Guy: Ok, well who did you vote for in the 2004 election?
Girl: Clinton.
Guy: Yeah, let's change the subject

The Coffee Tree, 223 Watson Boulevard
Warner Robins, Georgia

The 2nd quiz told me that I'm aligned with Mark Warner as a 2008 presidential candidate. I hope he runs. He would be a much better choice than Lieberman, who gives me the creeps, or Hillary, who everyone just hates.

I don't hate Hillary.
/end political statement

I don't hate her either, El. But it would probably be a nasty campaign if she ran.

I don't trust Hillary. I don't hate her just don't trust her to run the country. I would vote for Warner, but I am sure the Dems will find someone useless to run.

Since my meant-to-be-an-innocent comment was obviously taken by some as the insult it wasn't, TFN comment was NOT meant to be criticism, just a matter of surprise. But Jackie says someone who doesn't cook (ha, I cook as often as she does!) shouldn't be commenting anyway.

But since when did that stop anyone from commenting?

Hillary has done a generally good job as a Senator but I don't think she'd be wise to run, given the general political climate of the country as welll as the very negative way many, many people feel about her.

Since Bill can't run again and Dave won't be a serious candidate, but support is going (at this point) to David Palmer, aka formerly dead ex-President Allstate.

Hil is too polarizing.

It's moot anyway, discussing what Senator or Representative is going to run. The next president's name probably isn't a household name right now. The last time we had a legislator ELECTED as a President was JFK (Gerald Ford doesn't count because he wasn't elected).

In this day of TV ads, etc., their voting records work against them. Due to the process on the Hill, bills change and get riders stuck on them all the time. Legislators may vote in favoar of something, then find out a rider was stuck on it in the next draft and it's about something they aren't in favor of and changes the complextion of the bill, and vote against it.

When he/she is running for office, the opponent shows him flip-flopping on the issues. Yeah, there was flip/flopping, because the bill flip/flopped.

But we don't hear WHY, just that it happened.

Since JFK, we've had governors, ambassadors and an actor as President; and sometimes someone who came out of the back of the pack. (Carter, Clinton)

That's why voters need to look beyond the ads; but that's the image that sticks.

/civics lesson.

my support

sheesh

A joke from a friend of Jackie's:

IRISH GAS STATION

Taking a wee break from the golf course, Tiger Woods drives his new
Mercedes into an Irish gas station.

An attendant greets him in typical Irish manner, unaware who the golf pro is... "Top o' the mornin to ya".

As Tiger gets out of the car, two tees fall out of his pocket.

"So what are those things, laddie?" asks the attendant.

"They're called tees," replies Tiger.

"And what would ya be usin 'em for, now?" inquires the Irishman.

"Well, they're for resting my balls on when I drive," replies Tiger.

"Aw, Jaysus, Mary an' Joseph!" exclaims the Irish attendant.

"Those fellas at Mercedes think of everything."

But Jackie says someone who doesn't cook (ha, I cook as often as she does!) shouldn't be commenting anyway.

I hope that's not referring to people who regularly post here.

Overheard at the office:

Come to Think of it, it Does Smell Incredibly Fuzzy and Cute in Here
Student: It kinda smells like bunnies.
Supervisor: What?
Student: Yeah, bunnies. Haven't you ever smelled bunnies?
Supervisor: Uh, no, I don't go around sniffing rodents usually. And besides, I'm congested, so all I'm smelling today is boogers.

1145 E. South Campus Drive
Tucson, Arizona

Well CRAP! I'm guilty of at least 3 of the symptoms, sly.

*tries to tear self away to cook dinner*

...from a FOOD NETWORK recipe. ;)

Leetie, I wasn't implying that you did - re Hillary. At all.
And I agree that if she ran it would be nasty and that she's a polarizing figure.

Also, re *cough*: so if you deny there's a problem, that means there IS a problem??? PFFTHFFT!

Yeah, you gotta problem widdat?

I got your problem right here! And so does this lunkhead

*grunts* and throws her pants on Lab's lawn.

I hope Lab hurries back. I haven't seen him all week and I miss him. Oh I meant to say hi and hugs to MOTW when she popped in the other day and to Bangi too.

*smooches everyone*

*grunt*

*grunt*

Mad, that reminds me of the Tom Cruise "silent birth" thing. Silent exercising!

whoa.

I am sooooo not reading overheard at the office.

Hey, did you know you can die from death?

Speaking of RR, Cat Fight!

And who would they be fighting over? Someone really important!

4 out of 5 dentists agree that death can be fatal.

And the same 4 agree that death is caused by chewing gum that is not sugar free.

Give me liberteeth or give me death. Or something like that.

I just noticed the header on the MB is nearly the same as this one. Deja christmas all over again.

Annie Isn't that the new series starting on fox or is it the new movie with Tim Allen.

Tim Allen so could not work out at that gym

Hmph....Mad, I'm still stewing about your 'muppet head' comment earlier. Grrrrr.

But Jackie says someone who doesn't cook (ha, I cook as often as she does!) shouldn't be commenting anyway.
I hope that's not referring to people who regularly post here.

or those of us who only do things semi-regularly. i tried to do something regularly and the stress was too much for me. i had to go kick some puppies or i would have exploded.

*reblurks*

((wolfie & the rest of the irregulars))

It is Friday night. I have heinzed to the maz, but overloaded and am unable to remember most of it.

I was powerless (literally) last weekend, and unable to moat, blog, boat, or mlog. For some reason others kept insisting that the generator be used for stupid reasons such as heat. I ask you...what is more important, heat or internet?

My few heinzing comments: Jeff, I heard that she is doing ok and they are testing for rabies. They don't believe their is a great concern. She is a minor celebrity in our town now and from all reports enjoying her 15 minutes of fame.

I may have an internet addiction....but since admitting it is the first step to recovery, I feel much better and almost totally recovered.

I am an Alton fan, something about his geeky insistance to explain every food reaction gets to me. My turn on's include: science, food, the internet, and booger jokes. (I know, I'm deep)

It's the weekend, and tonight I get to drink: Spiced Apple Wine, warmed gently, and then stirred and served with a cinnamon stick. Nothing like it on a cold winter night. I built a fire and have the wine warming by it, it smell heavenly.

Annie- Don't be mad. I have always called Jeter a muppet head and always will. It has nothing to do with the yankees it has to do with an SNL sketch. And my intense hatred for Peyton Manning far outweighs any dislike I have for Jeter and the Yankees. I hope Tom Brady kicks Manning butt on Sunday and not just because I have Brady in FF.

El - What time will the trades be official?

Annie here is the link to the SNL sketch. And it is Jeter making fun of himself in the sketch.

I think Lucy's would be more fun to be at then here at work.

At least I'm inside for the game.

Mad - omg! I never saw that! Hilarious. All is forgiven...if not forgotten. Also, I'm with you re: Peyton. Although Brady's a bit too arrogant for my taste. Sigh...I guess bloggers can't be choosers.

Mad, our FIRST one is already official, the Vick one, and the other one should be tomorrow morning.
If you go to your FF site tonight, you'll see the first one. :)

*channeling Jeff*

(carefully, since my internet is very very very slow tonight...)

This damn Typepad is driving me insane. I've been trying to post for half an hour and it won't post, period. All I get is nothing, followed...eventually, by "569 NO DATA This web page could not be opened with the specified browser request. Please try again later."

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME?

Crap.

Anyway, I was trying to answer Leetie and can't get through, so could you please post this when you get a chance because I've just about had it.? Thanks.

Jeff

But Jackie says someone who doesn't cook (ha, I cook as often as she does!) shouldn't be commenting anyway.

I hope that's not referring to people who regularly post here.

I thought I made that clear, Leetie, but apparently not. It refers to ME. But then, I regularly post here so maybe that was referring to me too?

*ends channeling*

Blerg. Why did I eat all those sour gummi worms?

Oh yeah...they tasted good.

But my headache has not gone away...I did take aspirin earlier...and I finally got some caffeine earlier...but my head hurts. Sleep will be sooooo nice tonight. And a shower first to wash off the itty bitty bits of hair all over me from my haircut earlier. I told her to wet my hair, rather than wash it...but it was mostly dry when she cut it.

End of halftime...first round of the playoffs...Cheraw is up 21-0.

Retired numbers at halftime. Dale Hatcher, Harry Newsome, Ty Gainey, Tom Brewer, and Fisher DeBerry.

Looooonnnnggggg halftime. Seniors were also recognized.

*Not flinging pants now...it's too cold*

Fisher coaches Air Force...at the half, Air Force up over Army....43-0.

Start of the 4th...Cheraw up 42-0.

Frost forming on the cars outside.

Brrrrrrr.

Susan, thanks.

It is just so frustrating. Two days of this PypeTad cr@p and you never know what will happen next.

We watched tapes from last night - Ugly Betty & Grey's Anatomy (one of their better episodes) tonight and now I want to finish my book.

Dang. I forgot to tape Gray's last night or tonight.

Booger.

Final score...Cheraw won 49-6. Looks like we have another week.

No more than 4 more...actually, 3 more Fridays at most, then a Saturday.

Whew.. anyone want some of our degrees? It's about 80.. I'm about to go across the road and buy some water before I collapse. Not that there's not water in the taps, but I want the pretty sparkly stuff.

I've been "open-homing" since about lunchtime.. 7 houses in 3 hours. *collapse*
PS The one Mum really thinks is worth another look needs A LOT of work. It needs glass replaced, some of the interior doors need to be replaced or taken out (doors between living rooms, not doors into main rooms) and there's some exterior work to do as well. Mum likes the idea of it because it's in a great area and the resale potential is fantastic, but for me, if you have to do that much to make it acceptable, you should quit while you haven't bought it.

Nothing else to report.. so I'm going to go and have vapo(u)rs somewhere.

Susan - homecoming here tonight - I'm about 2 blocks from the high school. If I open a window, I can hear the play by play clearly.

Somebody make a note - never walk your dogs during fireworks. Apparently they have them during the homecoming football game here. We were about a block from the house when they started booming overhead. Suddenly it was the SoCal Iditarod. Only warmer (sorry, Susan!).

Homecoming? Wooo! We're already out of our regular season and have begun playoffs. Well, AAAA starts playoffs next week. But the rest of us have begun.

And it is cold out there already. I ran home for a bit...brrrrr. Back at work...broadcast of a tape delay game (digital delay?). Over an hour to go on that one.

It is, however, peaceful and quiet here.

There are pluses to being here...this late at night...alone...the relative quiet.

But not as quiet as a station off the air. That is just tooo quiet.

Hiya kids. You talking cold? It is 35 here this a.m. but out at Westhampton Beach it is 20!!!

WTFBBQ?

Now that's cold. The high was 47 in the city yesterday (coldest since April 8) and today will be only slightly warmer, but they are predicting a warmup to the low 60s by midweek.

/end weather

Quiet Friday night on the MOAT.

Judging from the reviews (offensive by hilarious) and the lines they showed this morning, looks like Borat could be on the way to a big weekend at the box office. To me, it looks like the kind of thing that might be funny for a while but not a full-length movie, and I know Jackie would never watch it. But longtime NY movie critic Joel Siegel said it was one of the funniest movies he's ever seen and compared in the The Marx Brothers, so go figure.

offensive but hilarious
compared it to the Marx Brothers

Latina: Like white people. You know, like you.
Jewish guy: I'm not white, I'm Jewish.
Latina: Didn't you heard, Jew is the new white.
Jewish guy: Oh.

MiK: just curious if you've heard of the books of Rebecca Pawel.

I'm reading the first now and it's very interesting, set in 1939 Madrid just after the Spanish Civil War ended, and with a Guardia Civil as the anti-hero.

The author was a 25 year old NYC high school teacher when the first book was published, and she reminds me of you in her interest in languages.

By the way, the site says she isn't Spanish at all but from a European Jewish family.

I'm divided on the Borat film, mostly because a while ago a read a review of it (in the Guardian, I think), where the critic liked it. She said that it is the US who should feel insulted, not Kazakhstan, because what Borat was doing was tricking the Americans he met into saying what they really mean (case in point: the rodeo guy who went into a racist tirade when Borat visited). But I'd have to see it to make up my mind about it.

By the way, Sacha Baron Cohen, in character as Borat, was on the Grand Journal a couple of weeks ago. He hit on Ariane Massenet and was REALLY happy when the weatherwoman appeared to, well, forecast the weather. (Personally, I don't see what's so great about her, but a lot of men think she's hot.)

Thanks for the link, Jeff. That reminds me - I'd like to read about the Spanish Civil War as well (though not historical fiction), because it's only in the past few years that the Spaniards have really started to talk publicly about it, being a very difficult period for the country.

Most of what I've read about the period is Hemingway-related: For Whom the Bell Tolls, his non fiction stuff about the period (with him you always have to take everything with a major grain of salt) and especially the biographies I've read about him and his exploits. John Dos Passos broke with Hemingway over the war.

There were a lot of American Communists and anti-fascists who joined the Abraham Lincoln Brigade (and other groups) to fight on the Republican side.

*peeks in*

Is the Food Network talk over? It is? Good. It was making me hungry.

Last night was "Friday Night At the Ritz Night." I wish I had a video camera with me. The theme of the evening seemed to be "When Conservatives Get Down and Get Funky." There was one couple, both nicely dressed in business suits, who really thought they could dance. Um, no. Imagine, if you will, both of them doing The Elaine. All night long.

THe band did a good cover of the Beatles "I Saw Her Standing There. About one-fourth of the room was dancing, the rest at small tables throughout the lounge drinking and talking. BUT, at the line So how could I dance with another, woo, when I saw her standing there, nearly everyone in the room raised their arms and shook their hands at the "woo". Even the sushi cook.

Funny

Oh, and this just in. The Cardinals Apologize For Winning The Series

*zips in*

I love your "Fridays at the Ritz-Carlton" posts sly.
Always entertaining. :)

sly - very good descriptions - I'm torn between wanting to get out like you do, and really not missing the local 'swingers.' They make Borat look like a good catch.

This past week they filmed an episode of "Earl" in our town. Not sure how I'm supposed to feel about that. Yay, filmmaking, but does our town really look like Earl's? Ouch.
