Parfait

Read the link, and then the comments; and then you will know.

Sadly, on that link to the DB Post that was the genisis of the "parfait" (as we know it) the trackback section got hit by spam. So, the first thing you see is something naughty.

*wisely leaves the parfai-explaining to the more experienced MOATies*

Valentine's Day update update: Not good. More later.

Addendum to the update update: Although, to be fair, we're eating lasagna tonight, so it's not a total loss.

I predict lasagna and "ER" for us tonight. We're up to the second episode of our DVD of the fourth season.

*takes a break to droooooooooool at Noah Wyle*

parfait: par-fey noun

1. layered dessert thingy what a delicious parfait!
2. colloq (upper greater MOAT) dried leaves of certain members of the cannabis family, rolled into thin tubes of paper and ignited, producing a pronounced sensation of well-being and hunger; duuuuuuuuuuuuuude, lemme take another hit off that parfait (see also doobie, joint)

I sent this to Judi and Dave: Star Wars Potatoheads.
Sadly, no Princess Leia... though the danish-potato combination doesn't sound appetizing.

A colleague was talking about some great ice cream he had had in Cincinnati, I think it was blueberry. He said he spilled some and that if it had been socially acceptable , he would have licked it up off the ground. Now I have to ask him if it was Graeter's!

*zips in*

In the past hour I have gone from doing the I Got Out Of My Dentist Appointment Happy Dance to Cox Cable is threatening me in bold black print to add $600 to my bill if I don't return the extra HD box they sent me by mistake! and please call our Credit Department IMMEDIATELY to having a fight on the phone with CG about this (too boring to talk about) to talking to the lovely Roxanna in the Cox Credit Dept, who apologized profusely and is sending someone to pick up the box tomorrow and don't you even worry about taping it back up!!!!

*collapses in hammock*

*exhales*

More after I take a xanax.

Sly and Bis - thank you for the explanations. Most helpful! Except, now I'm hungry...

They've cut off internet access at work, due to going over their monthly allotted hours (which weren't very many to start with!)

I'll try and catch up on Saturday (Friday EST) - Love you guys!! See you soon!

Happy V-Day!

did somebody say parfait?

Hey El - are we freinds right now or are we fightin'? I've lost track...

Continuing

I did however, in the midst of this self-imposed turmoil manage to stop at a 7-11 and buy a can of Spaghetti-O's, which I will be eating out of the can while having a mind meld with wolfie. I'll be wearing my floor length green plaid cotton flannel nightgown with white eyelet around the neck. My slippers are the ugliest black corduroy things that no one will ever see but they only cost $6.00 at Rite-Aid.

Crap on a stick! While checking out Wurm's Star Wars valentines ("Yoda One for Me" was worthy of a stick in the eye) I somehow erased my whole post.

And it was all about ice cream to that point. Oh well.

First, $70 for 6 pints is a LITTLE pricy for me, though maybe El can treat the MOAT if she doesn't buy that second HDTV. But it looks very good Brian. Jackie definitely votes for the mint chip and coconut chip.

Bis, I can't believe we missed that ice cream place in Cambridge. I used to love Steve's. Next visit.

But overall we're with wolfie at ColdStone. Especially this one, with double coconut instead of the caramel. Yum.

And then discussion of parfaits too. I love this MOAT!

Dave's not here, man.

When we were kids we used to eat Chef Boyardee beef ravioli right out of the can.

(Goes well with parfaits too. Just sayin'.)

*sigh*

guess we're fightin'

would it help if I said you look really hot in floor length green plaid cotton flannel?

(but the slippers? seriously darlin' - them things gotta go)

Jeff - some of us still eat beef raviolis right outa the can -I won't let my kids do it tho - they're not allowed to touch my fruit loops either

Spagettios. Yum. Although I do tend to warm them, but only cause I like them...with a slice of american cheese melted in.

I never said I ate healthy all the time.

Dinner...the big combo, for which I had a coupon...flounder, popcorn shrimp, oysters, crab patty, and scallops. Plus fries and four huge hush puppies. And slaw. I will not be eating it all tonight. It will make several meals, although the oysters and scallops will be finished tonight.

Have to save room for the ice cream that I just had to get. (Hagan Daas...mint chip. Almost got the caramel.)

Off to record the news...getting things done early tonight.

*sigh*

*wanders off, feeling alone and unloved*

*maybe right off the edge of a rooftop, which would then be on El's conscience for the rest of her natural life*

*well, if lawyers HAD a conscience, anyway*

Memo to TCK:

Darlin' (*snork*), your 7:32 post was NOT there when I posted at 7:34. It really wasn't. And actually I was wondering earlier today why you hadn't been around and if you'd just gone off in a snit somewhere! So we're OK, except for the snarky slipper remark, but since I think they're pretty ugly too, I'm letting it go. :)

Susan, that dinner sounds pretty delicious. I love it when I get something that can last for 2 dinners.

hmmm, heating the spaghetti-os to melt cheese on them....something to think about.

Announcement
I am NOT getting a second HDTV. I think it would be pretentious. I'm just getting an ordinary 32". At half the price.

OK, so I wasn't REALLY gonna wander off a rooftop

(and I take back the lawyer/no conscience remark)

Hey El - you know what they call a lawyer with an IQ of 50?

your honor

Back from two episodes of "ER"!

Do any of the other MOAT women think George Clooney is annoying? Of course, he's hot, but he's still annoying. No amount of hotness can cancel that out for me. I hate the shoulder thingy he does on "ER"... cocking his head onto his shoulder when talking to someone.

On the bright side, Noah Wyle just gets yummier and yummier with every passing minute. I get major drooling problems when both he and Goran Visnjic are on screen at the same time. It's such a shame that Luka isn't in the 4th season. I'd be doing a whole lotta pausing the DVD if he were. *drool*

((((jealousy vibes in Alex Kingston's direction for her perfect hair))))

*pervs some more at Noah* Dammit Carter, why did you go to Africa? Why why WHYYYYYYY? You should have married Abby and made gorgeous babies with her!
/end "ER as a Soap Opera" rant

TCK - you just can't help yourself, can you? It's a disease, isn't it?

yes El - I think it is - your love and support are the only reasons I can even go on

MIK- I hope this isn't a spoiler, but Abby is having a beautiful baby with the other hunk you drool over. And I have always found clooney annoying and not so cute. I don't think he is a very good actor either. Oh brother where art thou is the only thing I have liked that he has been in. And he was definitely the WORST batman EVER!!!

*sniffs* I don't get to see Weasel till very late tonight because he has class. What kind of cruel teacher holds Art History on Valentine's day!!! Hmmmmpppfffff!!!

*considers stopping to get spaghetti Os at the store on the way home*

Can I get the dinosaur shaped ones?

You can get the dinosaurs if you want to Mad, but I just opened the can of the regular ones and had 2 spoonfuls and they taste exactly as I remembered - wonderful.

It's good that some things never change.

private message to TCK: pssst, when you get out of the tree with Annie, we can talk about my love and support.

your love and support are the only reasons I can even go on
*snork*
TCK, will you marry me?

Mad ~ yes!
*is oddly proud she started a sgettio party across the country*
And STBMW has seen my slippers. *sighs* He showed up anyway even tho I told him not to. But I got a foot massage so I guess I really shouldn't complain right?

*jaw drops open, hits floor*
LUKA and ABBY are together? For real? Really? You mean Luka has dropped the tortured-refugee thing and finally opened up to some good lovin'?
Has Abby had the baby yet? Is it a boy or a girl? What's its name?
Yes, this is technically a spoiler, but a welcome one because there is no way I'll be able to watch "ER" again on the television. At least, not for years and years because in France it's only dubbed. I'm going to buy every single season on DVD, even the one where Carter goes out of his mind and decides that hooking up with that chick in Africa is a great idea.
Personally, I think he's gotta be on something. Abby has two men she can go with, Luka or Carter, but the guys only have her. I guess Luka won by default because Carter lost his mind somewhere on the road to wherever the heck he is now.

Clooney is the cute kind of hot. He doesn't make me drool, but sometimes I think he looks good, especially in a suit. And yes, he's not a good actor. He's hired because a lot of women seem to like ogling him. Same thing goes for Brad Pitt. He can't act his way out of a paper bag.

/end "ER" fan's rant

Abby and Luka are having BABIES! *gets the warm fuzzies*

Startling Announcement of the Day So Far:

Remember when I said I was anti-love? I lied. Yes, I am madly in love. It was one of those love-at-first-sight things. I had been considering the next move for a while now, and we talked about it tonight... and we are going to move in together! We are being responsible and doing blood tests first. And there is some kind of legal paperwork that has to be resolved.

*sigh* I am VERY happy. I hope you will all be happy with me.

What a perfect Valentine's Day.

Jeff - I haven't been to the Herrell's in Cambridge, but the one in Northampton is not to be missed.

But if we really want to be comparing all frozen confections, then I'm going to have to throw my vote in for gelato from anywhere in Italy. 'specially on a hot summer day.

*thinks of summer*

Sly, I love that/how you stood your ground setting limits with that jerk.

I think Chef Boyardee is better than Spaghetti-O's. More varieties, for starters. And they have the tab-tops that do not require use of a can opener! Excellent! [*air guitar*]

I have a four-year-old. We are Chef Boyardee connoisseurs and should own stock in the company.

Neo, if you're not talking about a puppy, I might have to clobber you or give you a noogie or something.

Ok, did I mention that I had a drink tonight? Yes ladies and germs, one measly drink and it's enough to knock me for a loop.

{{{TCK}}}

I had to go record...and I see I was surrounded by your posts...awwww...warm fuzzies.

Or I'm feeling warm and snuggly after my shower...in my comfie robe...

One or the other.

It is NOT a puppy!!

It's a cat. And she's BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait to get to bring her home.

El - no worries there - its only a matter of time before Annie throws my ass outa the tree headfirst - then she'll probably spit on my broken body and laugh

it's just the kinda girl she is

and wolfie - is it OK to marry just for lust?

A cat?! Why you little...!! You are making the biggest mistake of your life! Think of the children! How can you just go off and--A cat? OH! A CAT!

Congratulations, Neo! ENJOY!! And be sure to post photos! :)

Nite, y'all.

and Susan - warm fuzzies are what I do best (that, and antagonizing El)

neo! A snuggly kitty. YaY!

TCK ~ it's the only way to consider it.

Tamara ~ I grew up in a very deprived household. We didn't get chef o'bardie (that's how my lil cousin pronounced it) until I was a teenager.

Yes, MiK, now that the cat has been let out of the bag, Abby is pregnant and Luka planted the seed.

If that's not too crude. She even told her mother last week. No, she hasn't had it yet, she's only a couple of months along and not really showing much if at all.

Carter goes off to Africa to be with the other woman.

After the refugee thing Luka has another relationship that is way more annoying but that ended and he and Abby...

Buy the DVDs.

The only canned pasta my kids will eat is sgettios. And only the daughter will eat them. Ok, mostly she just plays with them. (How many Os can you stack on the prongs of your fork?)

(I taught her that. I'm a good mom.)

I've done that too...*makes a note to pick up sgettios for lunch tomorrow*

*mmmm warm fuzzies*

Now I'm all sleepy...and Hey! I'm home! I can go to bed! Yay!

Night all!

Neo - congrats on the cat! We're considering getting at least one female kitten this spring. Boo's been begging for one for months, and I think she's ready. I'm hoping to con Hubby into two kittens so they have each other to play with.

NEO!!!! You are soooooo in trouble for scaring me like that!

But congrats on the cat.

TCK, *sigh* I keep looking at your name to see if an "I" is in it for "incorrigible".

And that's why we love you.

Sly - if there was an "I", then I would be the TICK

but if "incorrigible" means the same as "irresistable",then I love you too

(OK, I know it doesn't mean the same thing, and I still love ya anyways)

Sly - if there was an "I", then I would be the TICK

but if "incorrigible" means the same as "irresistable",then I love you too

(OK, I know it doesn't mean the same thing, and I still love ya anyways)

damn double-postin' robot

and I'm gettin' all mushy too - time ta send Willie out fer a walk or somethin'

*sneaks up behind T(I)CK*

*BIG KISS ON LIPS! MWAAAAAH!*

*runs off to bed giggling*

*bobsleds naked through the MOAT*

Hey, it's warmer than the skates...

Well, I'm pretty well caught up, but I've been busy ripping cd's to put onto my phone/camera (RWT)/PDA/MP3 player/Swiss Army Knife/salad shooter.

Congrats on the HDTV, El. You certainly don't let your fear of technology sway you from having the very best ;)

MIK, I thought all Frenchmen were instinctively romantic, a la Pepé LePew. Doesn't he know what's expected of him to bring a little romance to the table?

(((blogchik))) I've just had a yukky cough and blocked ears for over a week and a half now... not bad enough to stay home from work, but bad enough to make the day miserable.

Hope everyone had a great day, with or without a Valentine celebration!

*luges out, realizing a little too late that a support garment would be appropriate for traveling at these speeds*

The most romantic line ever spoken by a Frenchman:

"I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

sometimes, Anderson McAnderson McVanderbilt McWorcestershire Cooper should just leave a topic unblogged

I woke up this morning 45 minutes late with one thing in mind: "F*ck wank bugger shitting arsehead and hole." Bill Nighy's immortal first line in "Love Actually", which as of this morning is now my mantra.

You may notice I am not in a good post-Valentine's mood. This is because I was not in a good Valentine's mood to start with, the news of Luka and Abby's baby notwithstanding.

At about 10:30 PM last night, after the fourth episode of "ER", I said something I am not proud of to Giant Frog. It was mean. Trust me on this.
So he leaves the room to read in the bedroom, and then he turns off the lights and goes to sleep while I listen to some more music with headphones on.
Later, I lift my pillow to get my pajamas as usual. Over them is a white plastic bag with two books in it. Big ones. Expensive ones bought at the bookstore.

F*ck wank bugger shitting arsehead and hole.

From Bis' above link about women having surgery to become "born again" virgins:

That's right, rejuvenated and reconstructed and revirginized even. I thought they were kidding. But my producer and I looked into it...."

That's just wrong.

Good Wednesday Morning!!! HAPPY HUMP DAY!!

and

Goody goody Gum Drop;

it's

HAPPY BURGER DAY!

{{{MiK}}}: your link wasn't there when last I looked.

Valentine's Day can be tricky for relationships.

A friend of mine broke up with her boyfriend last year on V-Day because of unmet expectations. They got back together 3 months later; but they didn't have plans last night. He had a computer class; and she and I had dinner together.

MiK, sounds like MAJOR suckup is required.

Sly, I liked that quote too! Brought ALL sorts of imagies to one's mind's eye!

I've heard there's more breakups before/during Valentine's Day than any other time of the year.

kibby found out last night he should have sent out TWO Valentine's requests. One to F2 (which was done!) and One to F2's Mum ... who knew.... along with Roses. (now we're pushing it)

I saw a news report on that "revirgination surgery". It's expensive; about $6,000. So, after spending that amount of money, "pop goes the weasel" and they are back to where they were before the surgery. But they and their partners had the "first time experience."

$6,000.

Sheesh.

who knew????

$6000 worth of pain?

Na, not for me.

Now that you mention it, Kibby, where are MY roses?

And did you send any to your KibEl partner?

;)

Kibby, some miscommunications going on over there? Good luck with that!

So I need suckup instructions. What should I do? Any suggestions? I'll explain some more so I can get appropriate suckup ideas:

Giant Frog didn't get me anything for my birthday last year. It was pretty much like any other day. I believe in making a big deal out of birthdays, so needless to say, I was disappointed. I shut up about it, but I was a bit angry for a while. In my family birthdays are great - you get to do pretty much anything you want (though I still had to go to school, blechh).
So yesterday night what I had said was "After the birthday debacle, I knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up for today."
*cringe* I know. Shoot me now.

Bugger. I'm in deep shite now.

So 6000 bucks just "revirginizes" you? There's no "rejuvenation" (as I believe it is called) as well?

Never mind. I just read Bis's link. So I guess it's the whole kit and caboodle for $6000.

MiK: Maybe a special dinner tonight and simple apology.

And then "dessert".

Dinner? *has visions of burned chicken and late-night takeout*

No "dessert".

I can do the apology, though.

*sigh*

*kibby crawls under the nearest rock AFTER looking for online florists for AFTER Valentine's Day sales*

... they have those, don't they?

MiK, "dessert" has many forms. Just say'n.

*drags her rock next to Kibby's, crawls under it*

Any and all other MOATies with post-Valentinitis: it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Boulder).

I gotta say that it doesn't sound so bad to me, MiK. How dare he ignore your birthday! And then waiting til the very end of the day to give you a gift, making sure you get it in a way that makes you feel doesn't sound like something that needs an apology to me.

Keeping in mind that I've never been able to keep a relationship going, of course. My take on this probably bites the big one.

And why should kibby be sending roses to an ex? Why did she expect them?

That makes you feel BAD, is what I meant. Obviously.

I wondered that, too - why would Kibby have to send roses to her?

Yesterday evening, before my little outburst, HGF had said that I had been in a sour mood all day. If I was like that in the morning, it is normal because for the past few years I have not been a morning person (I used to before, though). And lunchtime was tense as well because he arrived like any other day - nothing special.
*starts to feel angry, then remembers outburst*
No matter how much he played down yesterday and my birthday... I shouldn't have said that. I think I'll just apologize and leave it at that.

But ((((Peri)))), thanks for reminding me that he was a total boogerhead yesterday, too. I'm not going overboard with the apology because frankly, he needs to work on his holiday strategy.
Maybe I should give him a hint to help him along? "Step 1: Kiss Marie in the morning."

*hands note out from under his rock*

"Peri, we've never been married."

*lifts rock*

pppssst!

After I asked if I should be sending out two Valentine requests the reply was "And some roses, which would only be fair for our beautiful Rose."

BTW, the rock's because of sly ...

She must be and ex SOMETHING, kibby! Or did you find f2.3 under a cabbage leaf?

V-Day comment: Give the gift in the morning, do not wait 'till later in the day/evening/night, unless the gift is "dessert". But then again if you are giving "dessert", in the morning makes for a better day all in all.

Mik ~ frankly, he needs to work on his holiday strategy. No kidding. He was a boogerhead. I am with Peri on this one totally. He does NOT deserve an apology..he knew he was making you feel bad and he did it anyway. A simple "Thanks for the books" would be what I'd do.

Kibby ~ I don't get it. Your ex expected flowers?

I do NOT want to go to work today. After months of unseasonably warm weather the temperature has suddenly plummeted. I want to stay home in my jammies with a blanket and read a book.

Valentines day is a sucky holiday. Seriously. I would much rather have STBMW surprise me 3 or 4 times (for the same price) with flowers and dinners and cards during the rest of the year for no reason. No holiday should cause this much pressure and stress on people. Holidays are supposed to be a celebration, not a trial.

Did I mention the whole sgettios thing last night gave me the warm fuzzies? I felt like I had dinner with half the Moat. *grins happily*

Kibby ~ I'm with them. Why does your ex expect flowers?
Z ~ If I hadda haul my furry behind out of my warm bed and into my freezing office you have to do the same :-P

Oh fine then. Humffff.

*stomps off to get dressed*

*whispers* Z was bloggin nekkid. Pass it on...

Marie - I can understand HGF's wanting to have you "discover" your gift, but at the point where you started getting bitter and angry is when he should have ended the charade and just presented them to you, not go to sleep and make you feel incredibly guilty when you find them later on.

So yes, apologize, but keep in mind that all of your actions were justified based on what you knew at the time. If the situation allows, find a nice way to tell him that a gift doesn't do any good until it's given.

*is rewatching "Four Weddings and a Funeral"*

Later today Giant Frog and I are going to have a little chat about appropriate birthday and holiday behavior.

((((hugs all the MOATies))))

Valentine's Day should be outlawed. *sigh*

*snif* You people are lovely, you know that?
I am now debating whether to apologize a little or not at all. I will watch the rest of the film and ruminate.

Marie, sometimes an apology can go a LONG way. Even if you didn't do anything wrong! The point here isn't who was wrong or right, but that you love him and he loves you. Don't lose sight of that in the disappointment of him not showing his love to you in the way you need.

(teaching from my failures - is that allowed?)

just my 2 urinal pennies:

Erin and I keep V-day simple. For one thing, we celebrate it early - the 13th is much better for getting a table at a restaurant and just so happens to be our 1/2 year anniversary.

She knows better than to expect flowers (like I'm going to let the flower shop charge me 5X the normal price*), but I do always include chocolates. This year they were truffles from a local candy-maker.

After we both got home and exchanged (small but wonderful) gifts, we went out to eat at a place that was slightly less romantic than we'd hoped. But the food was decent and we picked up a bottle of wine on the way home and spent the rest of the evening enjoying each other's company**.

I don't think either of us could handle much more than that. So the moral of the story is V-day is a time for couples to be happy, not to go through all sorts or stress or to have high expectations for you SO.

*Don't worry, she gets them at other times during the year.
**Interpretation of this phrase is left to the reader.

{{MiK}}

I went home last night and was surprised by beloved! I was surprised with no surprises! :'( This was our first Valentines Day, and I got zip. Because we're pinching pennies I figured he wouldnt order flowers, but I hoped at the very least he might have dropped a card onto my car window or left one at my house or something for me to find after work. But nope. I gotta nuttin.

*sigh*

Instead I had dinner at work with the accountants and auditors (a lovely Italian meal) and then worked until almost 8pm. Whoopppppppeeeeeeee!

Today is a new day! A better day in my opinion... It's HUMP DAY! Personally, I think Hump Day should be celebrated instead of V-day. It would be more fun, don't ya think?

*limps in using a sponge mop as a cane*

Haven't I done this before? Yes. But this time I did it while I was half asleep in the middle of the night and woke all the way up screaming!!!

Aside: I just opened my blinds and saw a woman walking down the middle of the street Naxi style. I hope she runs into the fox - or vice versa.

Bis - thanks - I didn't know that A.V.CooperXXIV had a blog - very cool. However, I agree with sly that "looking into it" was a very poor choice of words, especially for him - NTTAWWT.

wolfie - I had a terrific time with you, my green plaid flannel nightgown and sgettios. Let's do it again soon, OK? :) OH - I looked at my ugly slippers and they are NOT cordoroy, they seem to be some very cheap type of - ugh - velour! All they need is a picture of Elvis painted on the top. *snork*

Computer question: Can someone please tell me where to go to find out the "registration" info re Windows? Thank you.

*limps out to get more coffee*

The point here isn't who was wrong or right, but that you love him and he loves you.

neo, you said what I was trying to say in my first post this morning, except in much fewer words and perfectly phrased.

Marie - listen to Neo. She's a smart cookie.

oh and last night...

we did laundry

*lifts up rock and let's Kibby out* You're liable to get a headache like that.

we did laundry Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

*withholds comment about the spin cycle*

{{EL!!}} Again?!? (how does one walk Naxi (Nazi?) style? Was she goose-stepping? That would be ..um.. odd.

heh heh heh, I had heard of "doing the laundry" as a euphamism for solo activity, Bis. Nice that you did the laundry together!

And thanks for the cookie, Bis. *nibbles around the corners* What do you think? Should I read the fortune inside?

This makes everything clear.

Di, same thing here. His excuse for not doing anything for my birthday was our budget.

Now here's a paradox: he says we're pinching pennies, but at the same time, about every month he buys DVDs online. WTF?

*sigh* All right, I'll apologize. But not entirely willingly. It will be in the spirit of avoiding another confrontation.

I'd just like to interject here that after a 3-day sugar binge, I still lost a little more weight.

BWA-HAHAHAHAHA!

Ouch.

*goes to take more ty1enol*

Why don't they understand that a homemade Valentine can be even more romantic? Spend some effort instead of some money and it means SO much more. At least to me. {{MiK}} Relationships are hard. That's why I'm getting a cat instead of a man.
