I was wondering about that one too. Why no pictures? And how can an antique paperweight be new? No one wanted it back then so they're gonna sell it for a ton more now?

I agree Sarah J. You can get a tank for <$20K and you get to see the picture up front.

My blog got 200 hits in two and a half days. It had about 500 in previous three months. Guess the playdough was popular. Makes me feel like I have to live up to some sort of blog-standard, to my previous achievements. Kinda makes me nervous :)

Sarah J, I have your blog link in my favorites, but I've lost the link to your photo page; do you still have the pictures up somewhere?
And believe me, you WAY exceed this blog's standards!

I can definately see the need for a name change...
since I've always been known as Sarah I'm enjoying the opportunity to explore different identities.
Oooo I just remembered... when I was realllly little my dad had a nickname for me based on his CB handle... hahahaha! He called me "BabyBeerBelly"! No wonder I turned out the way I am.

The pictures are still there at ttp://sarahjpictures.blogspot.com/
I haven't added any for a couple of days, I've been busy with family.
I have really high standards for everything I do. I'm definately a perfectionist. Often to the point that it causes problems. When I don't do something perfectly I give up and don't even do it. Because failing to do it would be better than failing at doing it. Yeah, I really need to work on that, but what if I fail? Would it be better not to work on it?

Your primary coping mechanism for dealing with real stress in your life is to run to your computer and write about it on the MOAT!

So very very true. I've just now gotten to the computer...and I should be sleeping yes I know. And I know as soon as I lie down I'll start blubbering again...I'm ok at the moment.
It was very very sudden. He woke up around 2:20am Monday with low back pain. Went to the doctor, got a shot and pain medicine and came home. Around 8:30am, my mother heard him getting really really sick in the bathroom...he complained of pain in his lower right abdomen...got a pain pill, collapsed on the bed...just kind of moaning. My mother couldn't get him to respond...she called 911, they took him to the emergency room. She called me about 9:30, I got there, about 20 minutes later the doctor came in, starts telling us they ran tests, tried all kinds of medicine, and finally told us nothing worked. So we don't really know what it was...just that it was quick. Which I guess is best.
(I've heard this many many times today...with the accompanying gestures showing where the pain was. I have it down...there's much more detail.)
It hits me...then I'm ok for a while...then it hits again.
I guess I need to try to sleep...but again...thank you. All of you.
Oh yes...I did see...{{{{Steven}}}}

I've posted here twice tonight, but it seems to have disappeared and I'm loathe to repeat myself. I was trying to tell you all just how amazing you are. But you all know that.
once again.. {{{{Susie Q}}}} That is incredibly quick.. which yes, is better for him than suffering for a long time, but it really catches you and your family on the raw with no time to prepare. In time, you'll be grateful for the speed with which it all happened, but now isn't that time.
We're all here if you need us, anytime, anyplace.
Okay... I've got a couple of linkity links here...
I found this keyring while googling - the hand in the picture is making the ASL sign for "I love you" - that and more can be found at the deafgifts website.

And again... {{{{{Susan}}}}} I'm glad it was quick. While it's a big shock for the family, at least he didn't suffer too much. A long, drawn-out illness would have been a lot sadder and harder to bear, at least for me.

On the trip into work yesterday, I was thinking about the past weekend and the time we spent with my parents. When we'd all be walking somewhere, they usually brought up the rear, moving at a much slower pace than we. Whenever we turned around to check on their progress, they were always holding hands. Sometimes they would have stopped to admire a tree in bloom or some sight that made them curious.
While the aging process slows us down, it has a benefit of allowing people to enjoy the things the younger ones are passing by at a more rapid pace.

Booger.
I got to DB's blog after reading his take on the whale removal by dynamite. I blurked for about a month to "figure out this thing called blogs" and then decided to join. The MOAT started out as a standard thread and I hung with it as the MB posters moved on.
A review of the Original MOAT will show how few daily posts we made.

Please don't think I'm callous and insensitive, but I kind of envy Susan. Her Dad went quickly and suddenly, and while it is a terrible shock that I'd wish on no one, I wish God would take my Dad home suddenly, too. He's been in the nursing home (I hate those two words!) for just about a year and already they've moved him to the second care level of the Alzheimer's wing. Watching him die one brain cell at a time totally s^cks.

Yeah, kibby, but if you take into account that Punky, Joshkr, rita, and several others were stripped from the comments at one point or another during the Spam Wars, they do look a little anemic at first glance.
Does anyone still have the text of the original MOAT (pre Spam War)? I know Leetie said she archived it at the end...

^ That should read - "several others, including myself"
Carry on.
Posted by: djtonyb | April 04, 2006 at 10:28 AM
Yeah, Kibby, there weren't many daily posts at the beginning. That surprises me, because when I read through those original moats looking for you all, it was like reading conversation at a party. A big, wild party that never ended! :)
I found the DB blog in Sept, '04. Unfortunately it was AFTER the moat was mentioned on the main page, or my search wouldn't have been so hard.
I saw this group of funny, bright, people and I wanted to be part of it; I tried several monikers, but couldn't get anybody to talk to me much. There was a group of people who seemed to be very close friends. They obviously had a relationship outside of the pages I was reading.
Then one day, somebody said something that bordered on insulting to Bangi. Ohmigosh! The regulars rallied around Bangi, ready to protect her. It was a very cool thing to see. Right then, I knew I really really wanted to be part of this inner circle of friends, but I couldn't seem to be able to get myself included.
I deduced that it had something to do with this moat thing that the regulars sometimes vaugely talked about (moataritas, etc) So I asked Federal Duck what the moat was. He blew me off, telling me that a moat was a body of water around a fortress.
I wanted to get in to that fortress! I KNEW that was where I belonged.
So, I came searching. I wasn't working then so I had time to dedicate to my quest. I followed a lot of false leads before I found the first moat; I remember my confusion when I found The MOAT. It was HUGE. And I started to read. And skim. when I got to the end, I followed the link to the next one. It took me two weeks of almost solid reading (and snorking... and crying...) but I found them at the goat moat.
It was fairly late at night, I think, so the action had died down. I hestitated for a couple of hours. But I had just read these people's lives, and some of the stuff I had read was pretty intimate. I felt guilty for eavesdropping, for following them when I wasn't wanted. So I screwed up my courage and announced myself. I wasn't sure if they would kick me out or not, but instead I was welcomed.
I unpacked my bags and moved in. This is my home, where my adopted family is.

I don't even remember when I first visited Dave's blog. All I know is that one day I was there, and weeks (or maybe months), later I got an e-mail from a MOATie inviting me into this club.
I'm still not sure why, either. I wasn't particularly active on the MB and I sure as heck wasn't funny.
I feel ashamed for not remembering who it was who invited me, Kibby or Higgy. The first weeks were confusing for me. *scuffs shoe on floor*

I had been blurking on the MB for quite some time. Then one day I got the courage to post. It was around the same time that T RWC (or the bloglit formerly known as "my evil bedazzled twin") started posting. MiK, like you, I didn't think I was being witty, but before I knew it, I got an email from either Higgy or Kibby inviting me to the Moat. I was completely confused. Me: "Moat? Huh? Whazzat?" After about a second of hesitation, I clicked the link, and my life has not been the same since. It's been a little over a year now I think.

phneo - nope, the ones posted on the Y! have already been stripped. There is an occasional comment from me when I happened to be on my home computer, but all the posts I did from my computer at work were stripped as spam. I believe the same thing happened to all of punky's posts... if you try and read those first couple moats you get a gist of what's going on, but there are great big holes in the conversation where the exiled moaties should be.

MOAT 101
*************************************************
"In the worlds before MOAT, Primal Chaos reigned.
Heaven sought order.
But the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown.
The four worlds formed again and yet again,
As endless eons wheeled and passed.
Time and the pure essences of heaven, the moisture
of the Earth, the powers of the Dave and the Stealth Blogette
all worked upon a certain blog, old as creation.
And it became magically fertile.
That first egg was named 'Booger'.
Then The Titans showed up and said,
"Feck this! You aint' seen nothin' yet!",
and loosened the boogers of life.
Tathagata Dave, the Father Dave, said,
'With our boogers, we make the world.'
Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch.
From it came a stone MOAT.
And the Father Dave smiled upon the MOAT and said, "Ah, this is Time, Centigrade!"
And the Stealth Blogette looked upon the MOAT and said, "Whaaaaat the F !?"
And The Titans looked upon the MOAT and said, "BOOGERS!"
And Primal Chaos looked upon the MOAT and said, "THIS is weird!"
In the MOAT all things flourished and became.
ALL Matter trivial was discussed, discected and disected.
Beer was iced and the MOATaritas reigned supreme.
The pri-moral ooze begot Pliskin and Fluffy.
Kinky Scores were tallied
and html became a Merit Badge.
MOAT begot the BLOAT, beboogered to The MOAT and begot DC Blunch.
Great ReJoycing and boogering was had by all, except Joyce.
Fertile was the Vegas Invasion, because of begetting and Slip & Slide.
Then The Titans showed up and said,
"BeGoing thus forth (and 5000th post)! Time to move! And bring that Anthem with us!"
Thus became the ReMOAT.
MOATies come and MOATies go.
And the Father Dave smiled upon the ReMOAT and said, "Ah, this is Centigrade, again!"
And the Stealth Blogette looked upon the ReMOAT and said, "Why? And Why me?"
And The Titans looked upon the ReMOAT and said, "PARTY BOOGERS!"
And Primal Chaos looked upon the ReMOAT and said, "You're NUTS! WE're outta here!"
With MOAT Mass comes compressed Time. Timed to that of a Pheonix's wing beat.
ReMOAT Time measured in hours Centigrade.
Blurkers came forth and were MOATized.
Haiku's and Limric's rejoiced with the Earth.
Highlighted Pubes, Nude Twister and Jello Slip & Slide reigned
as ReMOAT entered The Puberty of Life.
More beer and MOATaritas went around, in volume.
All Life celebrated the Remote ReMOAT. ROAD TRIP!
The ReMOAT is all things Penguin Thong, Coconut Bra and Yahoo.
Then The Titans showed up and said,
"BeGone Again! Check into the MOATelle! And bring your stuff!"
MOATies come and MOATies go.
And the Father Dave glanced at the MOATelle and said, "Ah, again!"
And the Stealth Blogette looked upon the MOATelle and said, "Why not?"
And The Titans looked upon the MOATelle and said, "COOL BOOGERS! NICE DIGS!"
And Primal Chaos could not be found for ALL was reorded in the Image of MOAT.
And Kaye looked upon the ReMOAT and said, "Why me?"
So The MOATies checked into MOATelle and rejoiced
at the swim-up pool bar (we have one? don't we?).
Slip & Slide went LN2 with Mad Monkeys and mixing Britney's DNA
A guy named Snake did the MOAT'ster Mash (in a flash)
Blog butter
Sang The Anthem and prayed Hail Barry
... until we passed out.
The nature of MOAT is .... irrepressible!"

Sheesh. Sometimes life sucks but we all have each other. Most of you know that the MOAT saved my life, in a real way. I think the MOAT i came in on is still intact because a few months ago I found it, read the whole thing and came back to whatever the present MOAT was at that time and said, "I used to be funnier." I also want to thank the person who invited me to the MOAT and who swore me to secrecy about their identity and I've never told a soul, even during discussions here on the subject I've remained silent but whose initials are [Jeff Meyerson].
And I have to go to the dentist this afternoon and have 2 fillings "redone". Why, one might ask? Because the dentist needs to make a payment on his boat???

I wrote a script to scour recent DB comment counts and tell me when new comments were added so that I could read them. When I was testing it, I noticed that one of the posts that was slightly less than "recent" had quite a few comments, and was still growing. So I checked it out. It was the original MOAT. I'm not sure I even posted there. I just blurked a lot. Then someone was talking about a place for photos, so I thought I'd create a Yahoo group for people to use. I felt like I was intruding, but I jumped in anyway.

Then Kibby invited me here, but I never received that email. Did get the invite from Neo, followed the link, found that people'd been talking about me and wasn't sure if I'd like it here.

Alas, sly, Lab's just being a metrosexual, happily married to his InsolentWench. All the good ones are either married or ga..
Wait a minute, that's not quite right...

I hate to rain on this here parade, but is this page loading REAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY slow for anyone else?
Posted by: DDi | April 04, 2006 at 01:35 PM
yes, for a couple of days now
Posted by: Sarah J | April 04, 2006 at 01:37 PM
After I typed that, I was actually thinking of posting something about getting Tony's attention, but I didn't have the energy to form a complete sentence.
The Wench has a cough. A bad cough. It's lasted for ... about a week. So, neither of us have had a full night's sleep in a while. I'm getting really run down.
Which of course makes me depressed, too. Tired and depressed. And fat. Okay, I'm blaming that on the lack of sleep. What of it?
I need inspiration. I need to create a graphic banner for my new web site (to be announced later). I can't think of a thing to do, though. *sigh*

*insert witty comment about Di being slow*
Posted by: «LabSpecimen» | April 04, 2006 at 01:42 PM
make you? is that sposed to be scarey or somethin'? so should i consider that a challenge or an invitation?
Posted by: TCK | April 04, 2006 at 01:52 PM
*glares at Lab*
*chases Lab around with a torch*
Wait. What? Ooooh! You said you need inspiration, not PERSPIRATION! Sorry.
Posted by: DDi | April 04, 2006 at 01:54 PM
oh, and BTW - that whole "puffing up" thing? not scarey
pleasantly distracting, yes
but scarey? no
Posted by: TCK | April 04, 2006 at 01:55 PM
Lab - for your banner, I suggest a montage of several hundred animated gifs, followed by at least 4 banner ads that bounce, rotate, or fly around the screen. You can never be too subtle with these things.
Posted by: djtonyb | April 04, 2006 at 01:57 PM
Tipperary ~ yes. Neener.
*runs →*
Posted by: wolfie | April 04, 2006 at 01:57 PM
See, now... *that* is witty, Di.

{{{{SUSAN AND STEVEN}}}}
(since I am moving so slowly I sincerely hope that my bits didn't accidentally dangle you, or maybe not)
Posted by: Mr.Fishair | April 04, 2006 at 01:58 PM
D*mn. I gotta work on scarey.
Hmmmm
*scatters bridal catalogs around her shadows*
How's that? Scarier?
Posted by: wolfie | April 04, 2006 at 02:00 PM
I don't know - is there a lingerie section in them things?
Posted by: TCK | April 04, 2006 at 02:04 PM
Sarah L.: if that's your name, that's your name, so by all means keep it. We do have two Maries after all.
I think El (& her co-conspirator Wolfie) deserve all our thanks for the work they've put in on the Susan gift thing. And Kibby deserves credit for suggesting the call-in show tribute, which is on for tomorrow.
Take a bow, El!
I'm sure if anyone not on the list wants to contribute it would be very welcome.
Neo, I liked your MOAT memories. Nice. I was there when they started taking comments and there when the MOAT became the MOAT. A few people really got me interested in participating because they were so funny and clever. Punky was definitely one.
Later, when the whole html and linking stuff started, djtony was the guru I looked to as so many have since.
Posted by: Jeff Meyerson | April 04, 2006 at 02:05 PM
Lab - banner - may I suggest a laboratory scene?
(sorry, not too imaginative)
Re the MOAT loading slowly - I've noticed (with my two keenly observant brain cells) that the MOAT tends to get moved ~two weeks. I think with all the sharing going on, this one's gotten loaded up more quickly than usual.
Posted by: MOTW | April 04, 2006 at 02:08 PM
Actually Tipper, I have no idea. I've never touched one in my life. It was the best I could come up with that didn't involve painting myself a nice bright red, adding a scarey and oddly tall feather mask and making like a demon to try and look scarey.
*sighs*

*turns Fish's settings up from "Bay Watch" to "Real Life"*
Posted by: djtonyb | April 04, 2006 at 02:12 PM
Awww.. I was enjoying watching him run that way DJT.
bouncey bouncey bouncey..
it gave his hair such bounce.
Posted by: wolfie | April 04, 2006 at 02:15 PM
so, just of curiosity - would this be a full body paint job? and would you be wearin' anything other than the feather mask?
Posted by: TCK | April 04, 2006 at 02:16 PM
*runs through Moat, dashing past Fish so fast he spins around*
Posted by: slyeyes | April 04, 2006 at 02:22 PM
Yes
Does body hair count? They don't call me wolfie for nothin ya know.
*runs her fingers thru her full body pelt*
I can braid this stuff ya know. I can even french braid little rings around my nipp!es. For special occasions. Want to see the beads I hung from the braids?
*flashes Teddie*
Posted by: wolfie | April 04, 2006 at 02:27 PM

Posted by: DDi | April 04, 2006 at 02:32 PM
