(repeat at will, I sure am right now.)
I have been working on the billing, to do affidavits. Since we are not using the billing part of our commercial scheduling program, we don't need the printed statements, just the time sheets. I had printed them for March, a month ago, but never did the statements till today, when I was going to close March and go on to April. Well, for several months it has been weird about not closing a month, telling me I needed to be in the next month...which I am.
Well. I printed the statements from March. Told it to close out the month. "Are you done with the month's business?" "YES!!!" So what do I put for the month I'm closing? Yep, April. Cause this is May, don't ya know? Of all months to actually work and close a month. It closed April. Meaning all the time sheets and everything are gone gone gone. I will now have to go back and regenerate logs from the month, making sure everything is there, to get the time sheets.
Booger.
I now return you to your discussion of screen shots.

Blinded by the Light!
WOW!
This monitor is beyond cool - beyond way cool, it's fabulous! The print is really big, but the View setting for text is still medium, so...?
Calling Computer tech guys and gals:
When I ordered this from Dell it came with a VGA connector and a DVI one - the Dell guy (whose name was Pierre and he was from the Phillipines, but talking to me from Texas), said the DVI was to the VGA as stereo was to mono and it was included - but when CG went to hook it up, there was no place to plug in the DVI thingy on the back of the computer. So I called computer Guy who said DVI was way overhyped and I would be fine with VGA, and hook it up and see - so we did. He also said that if I wanted to use the DVI cable I would have to have a video card installed in my computer and they cost $200!
So my question is: Is that true? Is there a difference? What should I do?
It's pretty bright and sharp and I haven't played yet with any controls -
Hi Polly (if you're still here!) I don't have any new bj stories for you - hee, hee, I said bj-
Greek food was yummy!
Zips over to Y site to listen to Polly*

DVI was to the VGA as stereo was to mono
Oh, dear. Is this the day for the SAT's?
Posted by: slyeyes | May 02, 2005 at 03:04 PM
Ele, you're perfectly fine with VGA. Let's see, that's what only about 91% of the general computing public uses, including yours truly.
And just in case anyone is still wondering, I really don't think with my thing. Really. For real.
*crosses fingers that no one mentions alcohol on this fine stretched thread*
Posted by: D'Artagnan | May 02, 2005 at 03:04 PM
El- ditto what D'Artagnan said. I would say the comparison is more like DVI is to VGA what HDTV is to regular TV. In terms of everyday use, unless you're playing high-end games or watching DVDs on your computer, you won't even really see the difference.
Posted by: Wurm42 | May 02, 2005 at 03:26 PM
Thanks, Wurm and D'Art - I won't spend the $200!
So what's the deal - I'm gone for 2 hours and Mr. fishair stretches the margins!!!
The Greek food was great, BTW - gyros, Horiataki salad, hummus and pita bread - and enough left over for my dinner!
Polly was terrific - beautiful song!
Posted by: Eleanor | May 02, 2005 at 03:38 PM
Well, since Mr. Fishair didn't stretch the margins to the extent that we have to scroll to read, I think we shouldn't grill him just yet. He's had a tough time -- and then got excited over a Polly sighting. Heck, Brat got so excited his personalities started to unmeld again.
Posted by: slyeyes | May 02, 2005 at 03:43 PM
*zips back in from MB*

Yes, as long as we don't have to do the dreaded scrolling, Mr. Fishair is still A-OK with me!
*zips out to avoid being attacked*
Posted by: Eleanor | May 02, 2005 at 03:53 PM
El - you can get a DVI capable video card for less than $100.00 (I was quoted $79.99 for a card with 128Mb. RAM). Contrary to what Computer Guy and D'Art say (sorry, boys...) if you connect your flat screen monitor with a vga cable, you are losing video quality, because you are translating it from a digital signal to VGA on your video card, and then converting back from VGA to digital at your monitor. If they included a DVI cable you may want to look into getting the DVI capable video card, as the cable is usually the most expensive investment in digital video. Or you can use it the way it is, so long as you can see the durned screen, who gives a hoot about digital or analog?

Or you can use it the way it is, so long as you can see the durned screen, who gives a hoot about digital or analog?
I rest my case. Remember, this means she can spend the $200 on me instead.

DJT--I just rented Sideways last weekend. I thought it was a great movie. Have you seen it? What did you think?
Um, but pay attention in class! Yeah, definitely.
Posted by: sandy beach | May 02, 2005 at 05:30 PM
Sideways- ewwwwww. Saw it in the movie theater after hearing/reading about how great it was. Didn't agree.
Yes, there were characters who were deeper and more realistic (aka flawed) than in most U.S. movies, but I really just didn't like most of the characters.
Don't know if I should go into more detail in case others haven't seen the movie.
Posted by: Wurm42 | May 02, 2005 at 05:38 PM
Poor Val! Not looking too good here!
Posted by: Eleanor | May 02, 2005 at 06:08 PM
The wine tasting wasn't what was funny....it's the characters and their relationships to each other. Although the guy's hissy fit over Merlot was funny. DJTony would definitely be disagreeing with that part.
I enjoyed the movie.
*goes to see if she has any pinot noir*
Posted by: slyeyes | May 02, 2005 at 06:41 PM
Wurm, for me, liking the characters is not a prerequisite to liking a movie. It helps, but not a requirement. What I do require is good writing and I thought Sideways was brilliant. Really nailed some deeply flawed people, but in a loving way. And the wine stuff poked fun at the California wine obssession but also articulated why people do become obssessed with it.
It's a little, small-budget movie with great actors and totally believable plot and dialog. I loved it.
If you want to tell me more about why you hated it but not be a spoiler, send me an e-mail. I like movie arguments ... :-)
Posted by: sandy beach | May 02, 2005 at 06:45 PM
Sideways is one I have not yet seen, but kind of want to. I probably will, eventually.
Long boring school board meeting. I am getting very very tired of the power point presentations. Tonights was over half an hour long.
The whole meeting was over 2 hours. Not as long as some, much longer than others.
And I still have work to finish. Bleh. May have to go listen to Polly's song again first, though.
Posted by: Susan | May 02, 2005 at 06:56 PM
Ohhh...thanks, sly. I was wondering what the heck the big deal about that movie was. OK, I *might* watch it. I could use something more believable after some of the stuff I've seen in the movies lately.
Posted by: Alex | May 02, 2005 at 06:57 PM

Posted by: wolfie | May 02, 2005 at 07:12 PM

Alex- Wow! Have never heard of omniformat before but...oooh, oh so useful!
Posted by: Wurm42 | May 02, 2005 at 07:14 PM
WooHoo! School's out!
Re: Sideways - it's on my list of things to see, but not a high priority. Once I'm done with the school thing there'll be more time for some Blockbuster nights.
I'll have to see it to figure out what sly's referring to, but I'm not a wine snob at all - my advice is "find a wine you like, and drink it". My parents, unfortunately, like Riunite, which I will certainly drink, but would be much happier drinking an inexpensive wine that's not quite so sweet.
Posted by: djtonyb | May 02, 2005 at 07:17 PM
DJT--I thought of you when I saw this movie because you are our resident wine consultant. The movie is all about a crazy trip in the wine country--one wine connoiseuer (sp?) and his friend, who definitely has other things on his mind.
I'm glad you liked it, too, sly.
Posted by: sandy beach | May 02, 2005 at 07:23 PM
On Sideways: didn't personally like it, but I can see why some people do. Here is a review I did when I saw it, although I think I was a little harsher on it that I would be now.

That was GREAT Polly! I'm not sure if you have a folk voice or a country music sort of voice, or a mix of both, but you have a very intriguing/attractive voice whatever it is.
Unfortunately my foray in to playing guitar never got any further than:
*pause while fiddles fingers into awkward cord arrangement*
strum...strum...strum
*pauses while fiddles fingers into new awkward cord arrangement*
strum...strum...strum
*pauses while fiddles fingers into new awkward cord arrangement*
and so on, interrupted with the sort of wailing sound that my voice makes when forced to sing, and forgetting to sing half the time while I try to remember the next fiddly cord arrangement coming up.
*sigh*
A singer I'm not. But if you ever need a project manager to produce you, or ensure the coffee is kept up to you or something, I might have something to offer.
P.S. Dibs on the Oz distribution rights!

sideways - saw it on a cross country flight. Didn't really like it that much. Parts of it made me laugh, but I didn't really need to watch a movie to know that men are jerks. I would have liked it better if there was some sort of redemption.
I'm having a massive allergy attack and my eyes are swollen up like eggs. I hate this. bleh!!!

I'm cracking up here. On the radio, they are talking about the "mark of the beast" having been misinterpreted as "6-6-6". They all started guessing what it really is.
Suggestions: 999; 333; 867-5309 -- Jenny's the beast! And then they got into a whole thing of the beast answering the phone. Anyway, the thought is that it was the ancient Greeks misinterpreted it and the real "mark of the beast" is 6-1-6. (whose area code is that?)
Graffiti will be corrected accordingly.
Posted by: slyeyes | May 03, 2005 at 03:18 AM
616 is Grand Rapids, Michigan and surrounding areas.
Looks like 666 isn't used as an area code in the U.S. or Canada.
I have also read that the number of the beast might be 6 raised to the power of six, quanity raised to the power of 6. (6/\6)/\6 is the closest I can come to the real notation in keyboard text.
(which gives you some idea why medieval copyists who didn't speak math might have written it wrong)
That number works out to:
10,314,424,798,490,535,546,171,949,056
This number is so mind-boddlingly huge that it might even be the number of stops on Cher's "I'm-not-dead-yet" Comeback tour.
Posted by: Wurm42 | May 03, 2005 at 03:49 AM
616 is the area code around the Grand Rapids, MI area.
Posted by: Marvin | Paranoid Android | May 03, 2005 at 03:50 AM

Polly - regarding the comment *tries not to laugh at Polly messing up the ending to the song*
That reminded me of an Allison Krause and Union Station cut that ends with 15-20 seconds of silence, and then a lot of laughing and horsing around on guitar.
You're in good company!
BTW - try one of those glue-it-to-the-window-fiber-optic-Rainbow-Six cameras. They always seemd to work for John CLark and Ding Chavez (snork)
OBTW - I converted the song to MP3, and expected it to be smaller, but I couldn't twist the converter's arm into doing mono, so it actually ended up bigger (Waaaaaa). If Mad can work the magic with it, she gets my applause.

thank you, sly - on nat'l teacher's day
(which is why I had an 8 a.m. exam, although I didn't have a 8 a.m class...)
even more mindboggingly huge would be 6 raised to the 6^6 power or 6^(6^6) = 6^46656, that would have 36306 digits, which I won't inflict the blog with.
Robert Graves ("I, Claudius") had an interesting theory about 666, in Roman numerals it is MDCLXVI, using each letter once.
Off to another final...

Eleanor, Polly should bring her guitair too. And she can have the desk by the window with the great view of the bay. (I'll just have to move out onto the pourch.)
pinhole cam? cool! Guess I'll just have to put the teddy bear away ... or point him in the other direction.

Well, isn't this just GREAT!!! NOT!
The NY Post has just become a registration site, and is so overloaded with traffic that you can't even get in to register - hmmmph!

Never learned guitar...took banjo lessons for years. So I could, I guess, pick out a melody on guitar...wait, I did briefly play bass guitar in high school for concert band. I think I will just leave the guitar playing to Polly...she does it well. (and sings well too!)

I love this song - I've never heard the whole thing, but it's the theme song for the TV show, Las Vegas, which is a total T & A show, but does have James Caan and Josh Duhamel who is a hunk!

RE: Coke for Nausea
Nausea : ...Coke syrup, or a simple can of cola will also help; this is what they prescribe for women who are pregnant.
Odd... everyone I talked to said to stay away from Cokes during pregnancy. As far a nausea, they prescribed toast, ginger-ale or club soda, and preggy pops. This time I got those sea bands ... but drinking a coke always made things worse. *shrug*

Wolfie - umm... "feel like makin' love" ? "afternoon delight" ... I dunno... you're the one talkin about nekkid mensfolk covered in bbq sauce. ;)

Susan - A little less conversation
kibby - thanks, but it was the NY Post, not the Times *snork*
Since the Times Square area of NY City (where the Times building is) is now rubble, probably not a good idea to do it again today :)
