Defector: Castro Torches his Undies

Delfinfernandez2 After years as part of Fidel and Raul Castro’s inner circle, Delfin Fernandez defected and is now living in Miami. He dishes on everything from Fidel’s appetite for expensive Serrano hams to his incinerating his underwear to foil assassination plots. Such intimate details about the Castro brothers and his life as a Cuban security agent have landed him a spot on a new television show on Channel 41. Pick up the Miami Herald Thursday for more from Delfin.

Conference to Free Cuban Spies

A group of people sympathetic to the Cuban government and who are seeking freedom for five convicted Cuban spies are holding a “conference on the Cuban Five” Sunday at the Embassy Suites Hotel near the Miami airport. The meeting, to be held at 2:45 p.m., is titled: “update of the present appeals process; perspectives of obtaining justice.” Among the speakers: Gloria La Riva, national coordinator of the National Committee to Free the Five, Max Lesnick, Director of Radio Miami, and Andres Gomez, editor of Areito Digital Magazine.

Is Cuba Ready to Rumble?

Frometa A small group of radical Cuban exile militants are promising to help a Cuban revolt on the island, which they claim is looming. One militant leader, Comandante Rodolfo Frometa Caballero, of Commandos F-4, says he is even training commandos in a third country, and in the U.S. and is planning to infiltrate Cuba soon with his group. He wouldn’t give a specific date. I've included a picture of Frometa. A group of 8 exiles signed a document saying they will do whatever they can to help along an insurrection. This comes from some of the same people who’ve failed to topple the Cuban government with violence the last 47 years. Is this the last gasp of anti-Castro violence? Or just a bunch of aging anti-Castro operatives trying to remain relevant?

Michelangelo or Machiavelli

A group of Cuban exile who support militant Luis Posada Carriles plan to auction off several of his paintings this weekend. Posada, who has spent much of the last 6 years in prison in Panama and is now in immigration detention in the U.S. has produced dozens of canvasses, said Jose Dionisio Suarez, a long-time militant and friend of Posada. Suarez was once convicted of conspiracy in connection to the bombing death of Chilean diplomat Orlando Letelier and served time in a U.S. prison. Suarez said several painting by militant Orlando Bosch will also be auctioned to help Posada.

Suarez said several paintings will be sold Friday night and Saturday at the Casa de Presidio Politico, 1140 SW 13th Ave. in Miami. Both Posada and Bosch have been denounced by Cuba and Venezuela for participating in terrorist actions.
