From the Herald's Michael Vasquez:
Responding to an international media blitz and outrage from some members of the Cuban-American community, Miami city leaders Tuesday vowed to tone down a proposed large-scale, city-organized public event in the Orange Bowl when Fidel Castro dies.
And despite preliminary plans that included the possibility of musical acts and themed T-shirts, the city stressed that it had never -- ever -- intended to respond to a man's death by holding a party.

thanks to sane common sense...Now I dont have to explain the stupidity and embarressment of hardline Miami Cuban idiots. Hey what are we going to do with that order of extra cuban flags?

Instead of a party, a conference on how to reconcile the two Cuban communities here and there.

Usambcuba, thats a great idea. Like i also said in another forum. I think this should be done with private money to show how independent we are. I would be the first to send a check to help organize a conference.

I hope the idea catches on and the government should stay on the sidelines on that one. Let Cubans/Cuban Americans dialogue with each other about how to peacefully resolve the myriad of issues that confront the community and both countries.
There must be a wisdom that will prevail in the community over the revenge and retribution some want. What did Mahatma Gandhi say, "an eye for eye makes the whole world blind"?
I also would like to see all the public tax money that has been effectively wasted on projects that mean well and yield nothing, ie. Radio TV Marti, all of that public money put into a kind of National Bank for Cuban and American Reconstruction and Reconciliation. The bank would be a conduit for monies and projects to finance and develop when normal relations are restored between the two countries. It could also facilitate the conferences and negotiations that will be needed to resolve the issues of compensation for expropriated properties and assets.
